Looks like Sony Xperia Z3 owners on T-Mobile’s network are in for a treat late this evening. A tweet from Des Smith, T-Mobile‘s product man and social media maniac, made the announcement late this afternoon. Being a twitter share his word choice and his details were a bit limited, but he does state that the update is supposed to start rolling out after midnight pacific standard time, so 3 a.m. for those on the east coast. He also mentions that the update will bring Band 12 support.

Android 5.0 Lollipop is news enough, but that Band 12 support is even better news. Band 12 enables T-Mobiles 700 MHz A block spectrum which will do wonderful things for coverage for many people. It is also one of the few devices that T-Mobile offers that supports that band too.
Be on the look out later tonight, or first thing in the morning, for the update to grace your device. You will want to make sure your device is charged up well over 50% battery, have a stable Wi-Fi connection and some time to kill for it download and install. I would imagine it will sit in the 1GB+ size range. Be sure to follow Des through @askdes on twitter to keep up with the happenings of T-Mobile products.

Sony announced a kind of new device recently in the Sony Xperia Z3+. I say “kind of” because for all intents and purposes, this smartphone is exactly the same as the Sony Xperia Z4 that Sony announced for Japan-only a few weeks back – ironically, Xperia Z3+ is a much more pertinent name once you take a look at the specifications and the exterior of the device compared to its predecessor. Despite this, we’re always interested in checking out the wallpapers of new devices, so we’ve got all the Sony Xperia Z3+ wallpapers available below for you to look at and download – check them out:
Showing the “flow” theme that Sony has made their own over the last few device generations, these wallpapers are on the minimal, simplistic side, which is perfect if you’re looking for something along those lines while still using vibrant colours. All the images have a resolution of 2160×1920 which makes them perfect for anyone using a 1080p device – Sony appears to be pretty adamant about not moving to Quad HD resolution. Yet.

Sony launches Xperia Z3+ with 1080p display, Snapdragon 810 SoC & 5MP front camera
Do you remember the Xperia Z4, the flagship device that Sony announced in Japan last month? Well, it turns out that Sony has decided to call its global version – the Xperia Z3+, and quite aptly so as the handset looks like a carbon copy of its predecessor.
While it may have the same Omni-Balance design as the Xperia Z3, the specifications of the Xperia Z3+ definitely make it capable enough to take on top-notch flagship devices launched this year. Talking of which, the Xperia Z3+ features a 1080p display, a 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB expandable storage. In the imaging department, it sports a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, which is an upgrade from the 2.1-megapixel of the Xperia Z3. The primary snapper is still a 20.7-megapixel one. It comes preloaded with Android 5.0 Lollipop and runs on a 2,930 mAh battery. Connectivity options include 4G/LTE Cat 6 (<300Mbps), Wi-Fi (<862Mbps) and what’s more – the device even has a dual SIM variant.
Available in Copper, Black, White and Aqua Green colors, the Xperia Z3+ is quite slim at 6.7mm. Although its USB port has lost its awkward cap, Sony has maintained that it will still be a water and dust proof device.
There is no word on the pricing of the device as yet, but it is expected to be up for grabs sometime later this summer. Its launch timing has placed it directly in competition against the Samsung Galaxy S6, the LG G4 and HTC’s One M9.

Sony launches Xperia Z3+: same as Japan’s Xperia Z4, almost the same as Xperia Z3
Sony’s Xperia Z4 may make a lot of sense for Japan, but the company received a ton of flak over the questionable decision to release a new generation of the Xperia series with just token upgrades compared to the Z3. Some suggested Sony should have pulled an Apple and kept the Z3 name a bit longer, and that’s exactly what the Japanese company is doing with the new Xperia Z3+.
Launched today without fanfare, and set for a June release, the Xperia Z3+ is, put simply, the Xperia Z4 by another name. A more modest name, in line with the minimal changes that the device brings compared to the Xperia Z3.

The Xperia Z3+ is smaller than the previous gen, with a 6.9 millimeter profile, though the slimdown comes at the cost of reduced battery capacity, from 3,100 to 2,900 mAh. The hit in battery life may be offset by the Snapdragon 810 processor, which is, in theory, less thirsty than the Snapdragon 801 powering the Z3.
The screen remains the same great 5.2-inch Full HD LCD, while Sony relocated the USB port down to the bottom of the device and did away with the magnetic charging pins. That should make for a cleaner design, thanks to the absence of the plastic flap, though the Z3+ preserves the IP65/68-rated water and dust resistance.

The camera remains the same great 20.7MP we loved on the Xperia Z3, but the front shooter was upgraded to 5MP, in line with what the selfie-loving crowd demands from current smartphones.
The Xperia Z3+ runs Android 5.0 Lollipop, a version that should be familiar to Xperia Z series device owners who have been receiving the same update over the last couple of months.
The Xperia Z3+ is coming this summer, but we don’t have an official price tag yet. We’d be very surprised if there was any difference compared to the Z3.
There you have it: with the Xperia Z3+, Sony appears to be trying to placate critics and fans upset disappointed by the Xperia Z4. It’s not clear if Sony chose the Z3+ moniker after the Z4’s chilly reception, though we wouldn’t be surprised.
There’s nothing new or exciting about the new Xperia Z3+, and that amps up the expectation for the next generation of the series. Hopefully, the Xperia Z3+ is just a stopgap meant to keep the Xperia line in the spotlight while Sony works on the real upgrade coming – we hope – this autumn. Thoughts?
Android 5.1.1 spotted running on the Sony Xperia Z3
Sony has been working hard to get Android 5.0 Lollipop on the majority of their devices, and has been quite successful thus far. Now, according to a video from Wayerless, it seems the company is quickly working towards another update, Android 5.1.1, on what seems to be the Sony Xperia Z3.
The video shows a handful of new changes that are happening in the update, such as the Walkman app renamed as Music, new buttery smooth animations, and more. You can check out the video below for a lot of the changes.
Click here to view the embedded video.
Starting out with its Xperia Z3 devices, Sony has been rolling out Lollipop since March, and should finish with the majority of them by July. With how on the ball Sony has been with rolling out the latest Android version to its devices, it shouldn’t be too long before we start seeing Android 5.1.1 updates rolling out soon.
It’s excellent when you have a smartphone that a company is going to actively support. After all, everyone wants the latest and greatest as soon as it comes out. Sony realizes that, too.

Video: here’s Android 5.1.1 running on the Sony Xperia Z3
Sony has already updated many of its smartphones to Android 5.0 Lollipop, but now we’re looking forward to the jump to 5.1 and a new video shows us what to expect.
The video from Chilean website Wayerless (via Xperia Blog) is a brief walk through the updated interface of what appears to be the Sony Xperia Z3 (D6603). Among the changes that we can spot are some new animations, flatter icons in the settings menu, the name change of the Walkman app to simply Music, and of course, the improved quick settings tiles that let you connect through WiFi or Bluetooth without going through the settings.
Sony began rolling out Lollipop to its devices in March, starting with the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. Like with Samsung and HTC devices, the Android 5.1 update (released by Google on March 9) is expected to hit Sony devices this summer – in August, according to some reports.
Will the Xperia Z4 be rebranded as the Z3+ for international markets?
Could this device be released as the Xperia Z3+ when and if it sees international release?
When Sony announced the Xperia Z4 last week, it was met with disdain from almost everyone, some of our staff included. While the device arguably makes perfect sense for the Japanese market it’s intended for, the international community has been in a heightened state of agitation. The Z4, as it stands now, has some minor internal updates over its predecessor (namely the Snapdragon 810) but uses the exact same camera sensor as the Z3 along with a design that many feel is rehashed despite (admittedly subtle) changes.
Sony has yet to announce the Z4 for an international release yet, and if a new leak proves to be accurate, it seemingly won’t be for some time yet. Take a look:
The above picture allegedly comes from one of the packaging inserts contained with an official accessory for the Z4, the SCR30 Style Cover Window. As can be seen at the top, an “Xperia Z3+” is listed. Provided this leak is accurate, it would suggest that Sony is planning to rebrand the Z4 when it hits international markets.
The name change actually makes perfect sense, as fans have been hearing that the company is planning to make a major move with its next mainstay flagship, as well as reduce the release cycle to an annual basis. Just last week, we took a look at what such a “premium” flagship might look like when we asked readers to design it themselves.

Still, many will be quick to argue that this new naming nomenclature will create confusion within the company and its home country: what happens if the “real” Z4 releases in a few weeks or months? The solution is quite simple, really: All Sony has to do is rebrand the product in Japan. It could be called the “Xperia Z Neo” or “Xperia Z DX” and, assuming it’s the radically redesigned product so many are hoping for, the new name might be the perfect way to distance itself from the “Z” of old. The reverse might also be true: perhaps there will be no Z4 at all overseas and the new product will have a totally new name.
While many Sony fans are no doubt still a bit sour with the latest and greatest, assuming the name change is the real deal, would it reduce some of the resentment?
Sony Xperia Z3 re-added to T-Mobile’s lineup with a price reduction

It wasn’t too long ago that we saw T-Mobile remove Sony’s Xperia Z3 from its lineup, no longer offering the device through its online store. Even a T-Mobile representative confirmed the removal through Twitter, stating that the Z3 will no longer be offered by the carrier. It looks like the representative gave us some false information, because in a recent development, T-Mobile has, for some reason, re-added the Z3 to its online store with a pretty nice discount.

When the phone was available through T-Mo previously, it would run you a hefty $630 without a contract. Now if you’d like to get your hands on the device, it will only run you $499.92 off-contract, or $20.83 per month over a 24-month span. This price drop likely has a lot to do with Sony’s recent announcement of the Xperia Z4 – an iterative take on last year’s flagship.

Sony announces the Xperia Z4 with metal body, 5.2″ 1080p display & Snapdragon 810 CPU
Putting an end to the whole leaking business that had spiralled around the upcoming Xperia Z4, Sony Mobiles has finally announced its latest flagship device in a press release. Featuring a 5.2-inch display with 1080p resolution, a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor and 3GB of RAM, the Sony Xperia Z4 will be launched in Japan within a couple of months.
The new Z series model is packed with impressive specifications including 32GB native storage expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card, Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box, a duo of a 20.7-megapixel rear camera and a 5.1-megapixel wide angle selfie snapper and 2,930 mAh battery back-up.
One of the biggest USP of the device is its metal body that doesn’t add to the bulk as the Xperia Z4 is only 6.9mm thin and weighs around 144 grams, which is 8 grams less than its predecessor. According to the press release, the metal frame has been treated to look more glossy.
Available in White, Black, Aqua Green and Copper, the the smartphone will come with IP5, IP6, and IP8 certification that means it will be more dust and water-proof than previous Z series handsets. According to Sony, the Xperia Z4 can be submerged in to water up to 4.92 feet depth without being harmed.
Some dedicated accessories that will come with the phone include a waterproof Cover Window that will show important information on the screen while still protecting the handset and a desktop holder that will dock the phone and recharge it.
