Windows 10’s latest preview sends web videos to your TV

If you’ve wanted nothing more than to sling web videos from your Windows 10 PC to your TV, today’s a very big day. Microsoft has released a Windows 10 Insider Preview build that gives early adopters (specifically, those on the Fast ring) the ability to cast media in Edge. The web browser now sends audio, photos and videos to any DLNA- or Miracast-capable device (an Xbox One should do it) on your network, whether it’s a YouTube clip or a Pandora radio stream. There is a big gotcha, unfortunately: copy-protected content won’t work, so don’t expect to put Netflix on the big screen. Even so, it’s good to have an alternative to Google’s Chrome browser, Cast API and Chromecast hardware for easily sharing web content with the rest of your home.

Google Keep welcomes your pretty drawings on Android

Google’s Keep note-taking app has improved drastically since its release in 2013, thanks to features like labeled to-do lists being added over time. It’s also now available for iOS, which opened the gates to the large audience of people who own Apple devices and use Google cloud services. Now, the search company is adding support for drawings to the Android version of Keep, letting you start dropping in doodles to any of your notes. It’s a nice addition to an application that’s useful as it stands; when you consider that it supports audio, photo and text notes, as well as lists, drawings was arguably the only feature missing. The update via Google Play is said to be rolling out already, but you can grab the APK here (courtesy of Android Police) if you don’t feel like waiting.

While a lot of 4 letter words are deemed as swear words, there is one 4 letter word that makes everyone jump with joy, FREE. Amazon has had a fairly decent track record over the years of offering free apps to users fairly regularly. Prior to the current Amazon Underground program that routinely offers up a slew of ‘actually free’ games and apps, the company used to have a free app of the day. Mixed in periodically was a crazy sales day where a huge number of apps were all free for a limited time. While the collection found in the Amazon Underground usually produces a number of great titles, a fairly good sale starting today is locking you into $70 worth of games and apps for free.

The list brings in titles like Lego Star Wars Microfighters, Splash Top Remote, Doodle Devil, Doodle God and others. The sale is for a limited time, which Amazon lists as October 31st. So, if you are needed of a few more games, a remote desktop service or photo editor, bounce on over to the Amazon App Store and start snagging the free titles you desire before they are gone. Direct yourself over to the Amazon App Store to start snagging these deals.

The makers of VSCO Cam unveil an Instagram-like app for GIF making

Let’s face it: GIFs continue to be a popular way of expressing yourself, no matter how you’d argue the word is pronounced. There are a number of apps that’ll help you make your own animations, and now the folks behind VSCO Cam are joining the fray, too. The company built DSCO: an iOS app that lets you easily capture a few seconds worth of footage to create the moving image. If you’re familiar with VSCO, you know that its mobile photography app allows you to apply a number of presets to achieve the look you’re after before beaming them to a social network, posting them to the company’s own portal or just saving them to view later. The same is true with DSCO. Once you have the video, you can employ a number of filters, including a collection of presets developed alongside MTV and others, to put the finishing touches on that all-important GIF. You can then send it to the aforementioned spots for sharing or safe keeping. The app is a free download, but like we’ve already mentioned, it’s only available on iOS. Deezer expands podcasts and talk radio to bolster its streaming library

Deezer App On Digital Devices As Company Seek Funds At $1 Billion Valuation

After nabbing podcast company Stitcher in late 2014, Deezer added the listening material to its own service earlier this year. Now, the streaming option is filling out its library and adding some to features to make the experience a bit more enjoyable. First, Deezer’s lineup of podcasts and talk radio now totals 40,000, doubling the previous tally. The library of shows includes programming from the likes of NPR and CBS News with sports coverage from TalkSport (in the UK and Germany) and more. Next, the company’s apps have some new tools for podcast listening. There are playlist and sharing options now, as well as offline listening for Premium Plus subscribers that’ll allow access during a flight or other times a connection isn’t available.

Google Photos will hide pics of your ex on Android

An unfortunate part of the future we live in is photos surfacing in our digital history of people we’d rather not see again. Google has a way around that with the latest update to its Photos app on Android. Now you can hide a specific person under the People tab. As the Google+ post tells it, that’ll keep the new grouped photos tool from resurfacing in those people under the “rediscover this day” tab as well. It isn’t quite the level that Lacuna, Inc. works at but, combined with Facebook’s similar tools, it could help save some heartache. It’s rolling out to folks running Mountain View’s mobile OS right now, with iOS and web updates coming “very soon.”

Snapchat videos get slow-motion, fast-forward and rewind filters

Yahoo Set To Invest $20 Million In Snapchat

Snapchat’s focus of late has been on showcasing mainstream content, while simultaneously continuing to enhance its core business: quick-and-dirty pictures and videos. To make those even more entertaining, the Snapchat apps for iOS and Android are now getting slow-motion, fast-forward and rewind filters, which the startup is calling Speed Modifiers. Once you record a clip, all you have to do is swipe to try each one of them out. In addition to that, iPhone 6s and 6s Plus users are getting something a little extra, with the application now supporting Apple’s 3D Touch feature. Force pressing your home screen’s Snapchat icon will give you easy access to two options: Chat With and Add Friends, both self-explanatory. It’ll be interesting to see how creative people’s snaps get with the new filters.

Outlook on iOS and Android gets a facelift from the Sunrise team

Microsoft’s Outlook mobile apps got a solid revamp last year, thanks to its acquisition of the email app Acompli. Now, it’s ready to integrate the spoils of another mobile acquisition: the calendar app Sunrise. The latest versions of the Outlook apps, launching on iOS today and Android in November, feature several design updates that would be familiar to Sunrise users. The calendar portion of the app now has a daily view that puts all of your activities in an easily scrollable list, and event entries now display their relevant information more clearly. On the email side of things, event invites are highlighted in your inbox, and you can even RSVP to them without opening up the message. For most users, these sorts of changes will be subtle experience upgrades, but it’s nice to see Microsoft integrate some of the design elements that made people fans of Sunrise. The new app also makes it clear what Microsoft is trying to do with Outlook on mobile: Bring all of the best design decisions from disparate apps into a single location. (One email app to rule them all, yadda yadda…)

Volkswagen chokes on its first loss in 15 years

Roma 22/09/2015, marchio volkswagen. Nella foto alcune bandiere

After inventing a diesel engine that doesn’t emit any harmful gases into the atmosphere, you’d think that VW would never run out of money ever again. Despite this, the German auto maker has just posted a quarterly loss of €3.48 billion ($3.84 billion) which, if we’re honest, makes very little sense. After all, the financial documents reveal that the firm was making a pile of money up until September, and then everything drops off a cliff. The only thing that makes sense is if something totally implausible took place, like discovering that the firm was engaged in a global system of emissions fraud. But, if we’re honest, nobody in their right mind would attempt something so irresponsible as that, would they.
