Vine puts looping videos on your Apple Watch

Vine on the Apple Watch

Vine teased months ago that it was working on support for the Apple Watch, and it’s finally delivering on that promise. Grab the updated Vine app for iOS and you can watch those 6-second looping videos on your wrist (either featured ones or those from favorites) whenever you need a quick pick-me-up. You can set your total loop count as a complication, too, in case you’re just that close to hitting an important milestone. The wrist-based app doesn’t work quite the way it does on your iPhone, as you might suspect. Videos won’t automatically play, and the audio goes through the watch’s built-in speaker — keep that in mind if you decide to watch cat videos while you’re waiting for the bus.

LG Urbane 2nd Edition smartwatch pulled off shelves due to screen issues

The LG Urbane 2nd Edition smartwatch gained fame because it was the first Android Wear device to arrive with LTE connectivity. Prior to the second generation Urbane, all Android Wear devices required a Bluetooth connection to a smartphone or WiFi to fully utilize the features. It was the first Android Wear device that could make calls and send texts directly from the watch independant of a smartphone.

IMG_20151114_125918

And then LG gained notoriety for that same LTE watch just a week later. The LG Urbane 2nd Edition smartwatch was available in AT&T stores, online to both AT&T and Verizon customers, and then LG abruptly pulled the watch off the shelves and quietly cancelled any new sales. Customers who purchased the available watches were left dumbfounded as to what the reason could be. Most of those customers only had good things to say about the LG Urbane 2nd Edition, including me. I thought it was the best Android Wear watch of 2015 and boy was I WRONG.

LG finally notified The Telegraph of the reason:

“For competitive and supplier relations reasons we are not in a position to communicate the specifics of the issue that led to this decision. However, what we can share is that the hardware issue was related to a new advanced component that we had incorporated in the device that had never been used in an LG wearable device before,” the company said. “During aggressive testing over thousands of hours under severe conditions, it was revealed that this component failed to meet LG’s quality standards and could potentially impact our image quality over the life of the device.”

Apparently the cancellation was due to the faulty nature of new components in the display. Hopefully that means if the device isn’t used under “severe conditions” that the display should hold up over time with normal usage.

Due to the abrupt nature of the cancellation, I am sure LG is still figuring out what to do for those devices that have already been sold. Some owners of the Urbane 2nd Edition have taken to ebay where the device is selling for two to three times the original price of $299. As of right now, LG has yet to recall or offer a clear path on what to do with the watch, so keep your eyes peeled if you own one. I seriously hope LG fixes the issue and releases this watch again – it really is one of the best Android Wear devices to be released in 2015, outside of the hardware issue.

HP teams up with another giant watchmaker on smart wristwear

Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal pos

HP isn’t done reviving its smartwatch partnerships just because it’s helping Movado — far from it. The tech pioneer has unveiled a smartwatch deal with Titan, the fifth-largest watchmaker in the world and a powerhouse in its native India. The two aren’t saying much about what their new wearable entails beyond a design that’s “responsive, but not intrusive” (what does that even mean?) and its support for both Android and iOS. However, it’s safe to say that HP is doing most of the heavy lifting. Like with other Engineered by HP smartwatches, it’s supplying the underlying hardware and software while the watch brand focuses mostly on design and manufacturing.

LG Watch Urbane LTE gets pulled globally, refunds underway

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

The LG Watch Urbane 2nd edition was a huge roll-out device for LG. I believe it was bundled in with a price cut for AT&T customers who purchased the LG V10, but I might be wrong. The latest watch from LG was to bring in LTE support with a separate SIM card that gives you connection for notifications, directions, calls and more without needing your phone with you too. Now customers are being notified that a ‘quality issue’ has put a stop to the devices roll-out and refunds for those that already purchased one are starting to be issued.

LG has acknowledged the issue, but aren’t stepping up to say what it is exactly. According to sources though, the quality issue directly relates to the watches day-to-day use of the watch. LG is now cancelling the rolling out of the 2nd gen watch on a global scale. From the sounds of it, they aren’t sure if they will even resume roll-outs or shipments of the watch at all in the future. Read a blurb from LG that was sent over to AndroidPolice yesterday.

We understand that you are currently reviewing our latest smartwatch; however, late in the quality assurance process for the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE, our engineers were made aware of a hardware issue which affects the day-to-day functionality of the device. After further investigation, the decision was made to cancel the rollout of the Urbane 2nd Edition LTE due to the complicated nature of the issue.

Whether the device will be available in the future will be decided at a later time. For now, our top priority is to ensure that only products that meet our very specific quality standards are available for purchase.

Those of you that got the watch are now in an interesting elitist group of users. Any of you guys out there experiencing any major issues that might be of concern?

LG yanks its Watch Urbane 2nd Edition from stores

LG Electronics Inc. Chief Executive Officer For Mobile Communications Cho Jun Ho Presents New Smartphone

Did you have your eye on one of those new LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition from AT&T? Well tough. LG just yanked the smartwatch from store shelves citing “a hardware issue which affects the day-to-day functionality of the device.” The device was the first Android-based smartwatch to include a cellular connection. It had debuted on AT&T only a week ago and was supposed to come to Verizon tomorrow, November 20th. Nope, not any more.

Google Fit updated to recognize all of your activies

Tired of your pedometer simply counting your steps? With Google’s latest update to Google Fit, it will now recognize all of your activities: from cardio to strength training, what you eat plus how you rest, and coaches you every step of the way. I can actually confirm this, as my own Google Fit app knew I had been more active recently and asked me to increase my daily goal, which I begrudgingly did. But after one day with the new goal, I already achieved an additional 25 minutes of activity which will make me healthier.

google fit 2

Strength-Training-for-Women

Google Fit will now pull information from your favorite nutrition and sleep apps giving you the whole picture of your health. Diet apps such as  MyFitnessPal, Fatsecret, Lifesum, or LoseIt are all compatible with Google Fit. And the compatible sleep apps:  Sleep as Android, Xiaomi Mi Band and Mi Band 1S, Sony Smartband 2, or the Basis Peak.

Google Fit is bringing a whole new level of health monitoring just in time for those New Year’s Resolutions.

Here are the new features(Google):

Instant insights. See real-time stats for your runs, walks and rides on your phone. Google Fit will record your speed, pace, route, elevation, and more so you can stay motivated and on track.

Strength training. Want to add push-ups to your routine? If you have an Android Wear watch, you can start a daily challenge and your watch will automatically detect and count each sit-up, push-up, and squat. They’ll be added to your daily activity, so you get credit for each one.

Just five push-ups?

Apple Watch gets an official charging dock for $79

Apple Watch official dock

That didn’t take long. Hot on the heels of a couple of leaks, Apple has released its very own Watch perch: meet the Magnetic Charging Dock. Fork over $79 and you’ll get a plastic, Lightning-powered saucer that can power the Apple Watch either flat (when you just need a resting place) or upright (if you’re using WatchOS 2’s nightstand mode). It looks nice and should work particularly well if your watch doubles as a clock, although we’d note that there are cheaper options available if you’re willing to reuse the standard charger. Elevation Lab has a $30 nightstand, for instance, while Twelve South will sell you a $60 stand. And did we mention there’s no included USB power adapter? It still makes sense if you want to free up your existing puck, or dig the cushion-like appearance — just know that you have other options.

HP and Movado bring simplicity to smartwatches

Smartwatches are starting to look like regular watches. Movado, a Swiss watchmaker known for its crisp designs, has partnered with HP Inc. for its Bold Motion smartwatch. It will do all the smartwatch things — alert you to emails, texts, phone calls, meetings and even track your steps — but it won’t look like a shrunken phone screen that’s strapped on your wrist. The smart timepiece retains Movado’s simplicity and tradition with a circular disc that marks 12 on the dial but it comes to life with subtle vibrations and aqua-hued LED clues in sync with notifications on your phone.

Android Wear can do a whole lot more using your wrist

LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition

That big Android Wear update isn’t just about allowing cellular data on smartwatches — it’s also really helpful if you don’t have a hand free. Google has quietly revealed that Android Wear 1.4 has a ton of new wrist gestures beyond the usual flicks to navigate cards. You can take action on a card by pushing your arm down, for instance, or go back to your watch face by wriggling your wrist. You’re probably going to look silly if you use nothing but wrist gestures, but this beats dropping a bag (or freezing your hands) just to touch your watch for a brief moment.
