[VIDEO] Temple Run 2 on Android Wear is remarkably appropriate as a wearable game
Corbin Davenport, who has been known to put things onto Android Wear like Game Boy Color emulators and Windows 95, is at it again with something a little more current. Davenport has most recently put Temple Run 2 on Android Wear and shows it off running on both the Samsung Gear Live and his new Moto 360. Check out the video below:
As you can see, Temple Run 2 actually works quite well as a wearable game, and the only real downfall is perhaps a little delay in swipe recognition and the fact that the Moto 360’s screen cuts off a little bit too much of the screen. Still, besides the fact that its cool to see Android games running on Android Wear (for which Davenport has tutorials for doing), it’s a nice proof of concept for games to be developed for Android Wear assuming that they have a way to cater for the square and circle form factor screens.

AT&T will carry LG’s G Watch R in stores
LG may still be coy about when you can strap a US version of the G Watch R on your wrist, but you’ll at least know where you can get it. AT&T has confirmed that will be “among the first” carriers to sell LG’s nicer Android Wear timepiece in stores. It’s not discussing the details, although it’s safe to presume that you’ll be paying more than the $229 you’d shell out for a regular G Watch. You probably won’t have to wait long, either — LG already said the G Watch R would ship in the fourth quarter of the year, so don’t be surprised if you’re picking up this smartwatch in a matter of weeks.

Motorola UK begins selling the Moto 360, discounts the Moto X for one day only
Nigh on a month later than originally planned, Motorola’s Moto 360 smartwatch has officially arrived in the UK today (although O2 apparently let a few units slip out at the beginning of the month). The limited stock that’s available is up for grabs through Motorola directly, with online sales live right now. The £200 Android Wear watch is particularly notable for its sexy circular design, and to mark its arrival in the UK, Motorola’s also knocking £60 off the starting price of its Moto X flagship smartphone for the next 24 hours. Usually £420, the base model is being discounted to £360 for one day only, with the price increasing from there if you add extra storage or one of the more ornate finishes, like leather or wood, using the online Moto Maker customisation tool.

Next Pebble smartwatch aims to be “more everything,” might feature modular components
We don’t know what Pebble has up their sleeve for their next smartwatch, but the company says the new watch (which should be out early next year) is going to be “more everything.” While that’s an incredibly vague PR statement that tells us absolutely nothing about the watch, they did clarify a little later.
The new Pebble smartwatch is aiming to be much more customizable than what you see today. Customers should expect more control over their watch over just metal or plastic, and the options should vary beyond just swappable wristbands. The big new development in tech is modular components, so there’s a possibility that we may some Project Ara-esque elements to the new Pebble smartwatch.
Whatever the company is planning, they’re not telling us anything else until early next year when the watch itself is released. Fortunately, that’s only a few months away.

Sony SmartWatch 3 pre-orders begin on Verizon
Yes, another Sony announcement tied in with Verizon. Today the carrier has officially launched the Sony Xperia Z3v. Along with that release Verizon has also begun taking pre-orders for the Sony SmartWatch 3. The device is priced at $250 and is expected to ship October 30th.
The Sony SmartWatch 3 is a bit different from the other current Android Wear offerings. Sony took more of a fitness / sporty approach to their offering. The display is removable and you can purchase various colored bands. It is water resistant to a degree, so are some of the others. The battery is the largest at 420 mAh and is rated for 2 days of continuous usage. It charges via a Micro USB port that is found on the backside. There are two aspects to the device that I personally find useful. It offers its own GPS chip allowing you to take a run and have it track your activity without needing a phone with you. Others have pedometers, 9 Axis and heart rate monitors.
In addition to the GPS chip, the recent release of an Android Wear update that can take advantage of it, you will also find offline music support too. This will allow you to not only leave your phone at home, but also your music player too.
Head over to VerizonWireless.com to pre-order this new Android Wear device today. The Sony SmartWatch 3 will also be available on the Play Store. However, it is still listed as “coming soon”. I would image it will become available soon.

LG G Watch R gets global roll out announcement from LG
The LG G Watch R, the other round watch, is finally coming to the world. Well, at least its roll out globally is starting. The first set of locales to have access to LG’s second Android Wear device will be France, Italy, Spain and the UK. You guys in those countries should start to see the device popping up at retailers in the first part of November. Shortly after the release LG has plans to push it to Asia North America. They say “soon after”, so that could mean later in November or December. Hopefully they push it out in time for Christmas in the states. It is also set for release on the Play Store in the weeks ahead.
The LG G Watch R brings in many of the same hardware specs we have all heard of before. Th carries a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 512MBs of RAM, 4GB internal storage, 410 mAh battery, and a round 1.3-inch P-OLED display at 320 x 320. It also carries a heart rate monitor, barometer and 9-Axis sensor.
“While the original G Watch was designed to be a no-nonsense, pure Android Wear device, the G Watch R was developed with a more aesthetic eye,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The G Watch R represents LG’s commitment to meld form and functionality together in perfect harmony and to create a device that not only looks great but more importantly, offers technology that makes life more convenient.”
A nice benefit to the LG G Watch R compared to a few of the other guys on the market today is the watch band. It is compatible with any 22mm watch strap. Which leaves your strap options nearly limitless. LG cleverly left any price tags off the press release, but we have heard talk that it should be around $300. That would put it on par with the Moto 360, and be slightly higher than their current G Watch.
Have you been holding off on splurging for the Moto 360 to get your hands on the LG G Watch R? The wait is almost over.

Update brings mood lighting, better battery life to your Moto 360
When the Moto 360 last got an update, the painfully handsome smartwatch seemed to get a noticeable boost in battery life. Now, with a new bit of software, Motorola’s itching to improve its battery life just a little more… as well as stamp out a few bugs for good measure. Perhaps the most notable addition is the 360’s newfound ability to shut off Ambient Mode (which leaves the screen on, albeit at a lower brightness) automatically once its battery level hits 15 percent. Also on deck this time are some minor UI changes (you can temporarily dismiss a notification without leaving the watch face), the addition of mood lighting when you plop the thing in its dock, and some behind-the-scenes Bluetooth improvements. All of the above will be hitting your wrist sooner or later — Motorola says the update is rolling out in waves, so be patient if your smartwatch doesn’t get a little smarter as quickly as you’d like.

A Microsoft smartwatch could appear in weeks
Do you remember Spot? Well, that was Microsoft’s very early smartwatch effort, lost in the mists of bygone technology. Finally, a long time coming, a more modern effort from the company is apparently on its way– and coming soon. According to Forbes’ anonymous sources, Microsoft’s next smartwatch will be able to passively track your heart-rate (meaning less stress on the battery) and work across several mobile platforms. Both points make a lot of sense, but the latter could be especially important if Microsoft wants a hit: Windows Phone is still a very distant third to both Android devices and the iPhone. The rumored product could also explain why the heck Microsoft developed a smartwatch keyboard in the first place. We’ll let you know more when we hear it.

Blocks modular smartwatch will use Samsung’s Tizen OS
Blocks, a company based in the UK that’s investing into modular tech design, has announced some new details regarding their upcoming modular smartwatch. The watch works pretty similarly to what we’ve seen from Project Ara where you’ll be able to swap out different pieces of the hardware to keep your device up to date and customize it exactly how you want it. We’ve yet to see a modular device become extremely mainstream, so the idea may not be a commercial success, but there are plenty companies willing to tackle it, anyway.
Blocks claims that the hardware side of things is moving along nicely, so they’re investing into the software side of things. In an interesting twist, Blocks smartwatches will use Tizen, the collaborative OS from Samsung and Intel. Yep, the same operating system that Samsung uses for their own Gear smartwatches. It shouldn’t affect compatibility with your devices, though; the company said they’re targeting support for Android, iOS, and Windows, which should cover a majority of consumer devices.
I think it’s surprising to see a company opt for Tizen over anything Android based, especially when they’re striving to make things extremely customizable, but the gamble might pay off. We’ll have to wait until 2015 to find out, however you slice it.
