Razer reintroduces their wearable, the Nabu smartband

Razer, one of the biggest names in computer peripherals is reintroducing their Nabu smartband. Now, you may remember that the original Nabu was announced last year but due to some delays we haven’t seen much of it. Razer is reintroducing it today and allowing pre-orders starting September 15th.

Razer promises updates and a “more intuitive user experience” using the smartband. The band is kind of a cross between a smartwatch and a fitbit. You’ll get relevant information shown to you about calendar alerts, calls and more and the tracking and size of a fitbit. The Nabu has a single color (green) OLED screen and a battery that can last you up to 6 days on a charge. That battery life definitely puts it more in the fitness band territory (with the exception of the Pebble).

“When we originally announced the Razer Nabu at CES 2014, we received a ton of feedback on features that users enjoyed and aspects that needed improvement,” says Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO. “We re-designed the Razer Nabu with that feedback, including a change in the placement of the button for a more intuitive user experience. The zombie video we’ve made is a fun way for us to commemorate the re-launch of one of our most anticipated products with the fans who helped make it a reality.”

If you’re interested, you can sign up for information now on Razer’s site and the smartband will work for both iOS and Android. You’ll be able to pre-order the smartband for $99 in September with a ship date in October.

What do you think? Does the Razer Nabu smartband stick out in a very crowded category? Would you consider buying one? Let us know in the comments.

LG announced truly absurd $1,200 Urbane Luxe smartwatch

Are you sitting at home figuring out the most ridiculous way to spend all of your money? LG is here to help you out.

The South Korean giant has announced an ultra premium version of their beautiful LG Urbane smartwatch. The new version, dubbed the Urbane Luxe is $1,200 and has a 23k gold plated body and a nicer alligator band. And while it may look beautiful, it’s crazy to think that any Android Wear smartwatch could be worth so much, regardless of what it’s made of. But these items are supposed to be high end luxury items and will be sold as such. Pre-orders will start later in September at jeweler Reeds if you feel so inclined to pony up the dough.

lg urbane luxe

LG has obviously seen where Apple is trying to with their ridiculously priced smartwatches and wants to get in on the action for the crazy Android user out there. And hey, since some Android Wear watches are now able to work on select iPhones, you can even use this with your favorite fruity phone. But hurry! There will only be 500 made and just so you know yours is special, each one will be engraved with its serial number so you know it’s legit.

Or you could keep your money. Or spend it on a nicer non-smartwatch. But hey. If you have more money than sense, this watch may be smarter than you.

Smaller Motorola smartwatch is outed as the Moto 360 Sport, will arrive in November according to leak

Moto_360 2nd_Gen_LEak (1)

The leaks have arrived with increasing frequency, even Motorola tweeted (temporarily) about the 2015 version of the Moto 360, but now it seems like we finding out the details we really want to know. The seemingly back-in-the-game, Evan Blass (@evleaks), leaked an image of the Moto 360 (2015) a little while ago, and not to be outdone, @upleaks has leaked pictures and news about its smaller version. This smaller version is apparently called the Moto 360 Sport and is said to arrive in November.

Moto_360_Sport_Leak

The deviceseen in the image above is apparently the Moto 360 Sport, showing off information such as heart rate, timer, and distance achieved. Along with the rubber/plastic strap, it isn’t difficult to imagine that the Moto 360 Sport, as the name suggests, will target consumers with an active lifestyle.

If one looks at the bottom of the dial carefully, it would appear that both the Moto 360 (2015) and the Sport model carry on with the flat-tire design first seen on the original Moto 360. It’s a feature that you either don’t mind or hate with extreme prejudice.

One detail to ponder about is how to change the strap on the Moto 360 Sport, because the device in the image doesn’t have the usual 22mm pin as can be seen on the standard Moto 360 (2015). Could the Moto 360 Sport employ a similar solution to Sony’s SmartWatch 3 where the entire housing has to be changed when swapping straps because it’s a one-piece item?

The Moto 360 (2015) is said to be ‘coming in September’ while the Sport model could arrive in November. I’m sure we will see more leaks and details about the Moto 360 (2015) and Sport smartwatches in the coming days as we get closer to when IFA 2015 opens its doors in Berlin later this week.

Samsung Gear S2 might include nano SIM card slot

samsung_unpacked_2015_gear_s2_teaser_3At Samsung’s famous Unpacked event in NYC, the company teased an upcoming smartwatch called the Gear S2. The smartwatch will likely replace the original Gear S, but will include a round face and a rumored circular bezel for easy navigating. A new report states the smartwatch will likely include a nano SIM card slot for connection to cellular networks.

The Gear S2 is set to be announced at IFA 2015 this September. A report out of Italy states the smartwatch will include Wi-Fi capabilities and connection to cellular networks via a built in nano SIM slot. This means you can pop in your activated SIM card from your smartphone, leave the phone at home and receive messages, phone calls and notifications on your watch. The smartwatch will include Samsung’s Tizen software not the previously rumored Android Wear interface. Meaning it can only be activated with select Samsung smartphones. One could expect the price of the smartwatch to be just north of $400 USD since it will be including all these sensors. This is similar to the original price tag of the former Gear S.

We should find out all the details at IFA 2015 next week.

New Moto 360 wanders the streets of Chicago

With the expected launch of the next-generation Moto 360 rapidly approaching, we may have just gotten an early glimpse of the smartwatch in the wild.

Spotted by an eager eyed Reddit user, the second generation Moto 360 was seen around Motorola’s hometown of Chicago.

2015_moto360_chicago1-810x403

It’s incredibly early days as of yet so no word on specs, availability, or anything of the good stuff – only a glimpse of what could be the follow-up to the current Moto 360. It has been seen in two different colours: an all-black, as well as a cognac band and rose gold body.

The power button has been moved to the 2 o’clock position and will unfortunately, as confirmed by this sighting, retain the spare tyre, despite being noticeably smaller than the previous model.

Samsung teaser video for Gear 2 may hint at rotating bezel

Samsung has released a teaser video for its upcoming Gear 2 smartwatch ahead of its September launch. Indeed, it’s the same video that was shown briefly at the end of last week’s Galaxy Note 5/Galaxy S6 Edge+ announcement.

For those who haven’t seen it, the 30-second clip shows a variety of watch faces and hints at some of the functionality. While it doesn’t specifically name partners or apps, it does reveal a built-in heart sensor and possible Nike+ integration.

One interesting notion being tossed about today is that the video may be teasing a rotating bezel. Watch it closely and you’ll see instances where the grey trim appears to be rotating. Of course, this isn’t something Samsung has confirmed, but it’s an interesting concept nonetheless.

We might assume that a rotating bezel might be used for navigational purposes, sliding from app to app or function to function. Then again, the display is likely touch, too, and may negate the need for such hardware. Also possible… the bezel is not so much rotating as being hit with moving light, instead.

The Samsung Gear 2 is expected to debut at IFA in Berlin on September 3. Check back for more coverage as we get closer to the launch.

Fossil shows off Android Wear smartwatch powered by Intel

With the possibility of an impending update to the Moto 360, consumers are getting excited for a new Android Wear device. Well, Fossil took to the stage today at Intel’s Developer Conference to show off three new smartwatches coming this holiday season.

The first is a fitness band type device, and the other two are regular smartwatches. What makes today’s announcement so exciting is that the top-of-the-line smartwatch that we will see from Fossil this Holiday season, will have some Intel internals under the hood.

The specs obviously aren’t known yet, but we do know that the high-dollar item is running Android Wear and is powered by Intel. Battery life, screen density, charging capabilities, and all that jazz were intentionally left out of the presentation today. What wasn’t was that when Fossil showed these off, there was a familiar foe.

That oh-so-controversial flat tire at the bottom of the watch face. After the world saw the Moto 360, we all were wondering why in the world would you make a round faced watch with a flat tire, only to learn that was where some of the sensors were housed. So we can only expect that this is the same reason why Fossil has one on their smartwatch.

Fossil and Intel announced that these devices would be officially revealed and announced in time for the holiday season, so we have a few more months to go before we get to dive into these. But from the looks, Fossil may have found a place in the Android Wear world with these one.

Let us know what you think about Fossil’s upcoming lineup of smartwatches that will be running on Intel processors. Also, let us know what smartwatch you are looking forward to the most for the last portion of 2015.

Fossil releases Android Wear smartwatch with flat-tire along with other wearables

Android Wear_smartwatch_Fossil_081815At IDF today, Fossil unveiled an Android Wear smartwatch alongside other Intel powered wearables.

Fossil has been around the industry for a while but this is the first time the company announced hardware. The company discussed its plans to release a connected bracelet, a connected watch and perhaps the most exciting of the three a Android Wear smartwatch. The company thought it was cool not to give out any details regarding specifications for the upcoming wearables. Instead, it showed off the wearables themselves rather than going on about the internals. So far all we know is that all three wearables will be powered by Intel.

Fossil’s Android Wear powered smartwatch will feature a round display including a multitude of materials and different band options. One could expect to see Silver and Gold color options as well as leather and metal band choices. The face of the watch can very much be related to that of the Moto 360 smartwatch. It’s round in shape and appears to have the same black bottom or flat tire it’s often called.

Fossil says we can expect to see the wearables hit the shelves just in time for the holiday season.
