Samsung CEOs see salaries dropping due to struggling sales

Samsung’s poor sales have been affecting more than just the company’s reputation. The Korean giant has had to close down main stores and now we are finding out even the CEOs are suffering… if you can really call earning millions suffering. The latest report from the Korea Herald states all three co-CEOs have seen a drop in their annual income. They still earn a fortune (by our definition), but it’s significantly less compared to the previous year.
Sammy’s regulatory filing showcases the following information:
- CEO Kwon Oh-hyun received 3.82 billion won (about $3.25 million USD), compared to 6.25 billion won in 2014.
- CEO Yoo Boo-keun received 2.34 billion won, compared to 3.61 won in 2014.
- CEO Shin Jong-kyun received 2.28 billion won, compared to 12.03 billion won in 2014.
It’s safe to say these guys are not exactly hurting either. Maybe instead of a Ferrari they will get a Corvette or something. Regardless, those are some significant drops… especially the last one. But the main thing to keep in mind here is that their actual salaries stayed nearly the same. It was the diminishing bonuses that affected their income so much, and those are definitely based on the company’s performance.

Samsung’s efforts have definitely been noticed this year. The company finally gave in and released a smartphone that didn’t feel like a toy (Samsung Galaxy S6), which is important in a market where all manufacturers are focusing on build quality. This was likely one of the main reasons we saw their sales went up (even if that didn’t help much).
I say they have a good chance at coming out of this hole. The company is, after all, one of the top dogs in the market. They seem to be working on a winning equation with their new devices. Not only are phones better built, but they are more interestingly made, with some having those edged displays some of you fell in love with.
Let’s just wait and see how things work out in the near future. Our main concern isn’t tracking how much richer CEOs are, but those numbers are a direct representation of how a company is doing. What do you think? Is it time for Samsung to leave the throne? Do you want Samsung to stay on top? Hit the comments to share your thoughts!
Samsung exec subtly exposes the processor for the Galaxy S7
A Samsung executive seems to have revealed which processor will be featured inside next year’s Galaxy S7.
Hong Kyushik, VP of Marketing for Samsung System LSI, said that the new Exynos 8 Octa is being made for high-end devices. Bloomberg collected his comments from Monday’s investor briefing:
“As a component provider you have to find the biggest customer in the world, and for us it happened to be Samsung. Exynos 8 is targeted for the premium segment.”
Earlier, it was reported that the international and North American variants of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will have two different processors. While the international variant will allegedly keep the company’s own processor, Samsung is said to be using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 in select markets. Samsung used a self-made Exynos processor last year for its 2015 lineup when rumors swirled that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 was overproducing heat and having a hard time managing its temperature.
Piecing together today’s report with Kyushik’s comments easily gives away that Samsung’s Galaxy S7 will be put to work with the Exynos 8 Octa. The only question remaining is which markets will get an Exynos or Snapdragon processor.
The wait won’t be long, though, as Samsung’s 2016 flagship is expected to launch as early as February.

Samsung will be using the Snapdragon 820 and Exynos 8890 processor to power the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge
When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge it was slightly shocking to learn that the phones would use Samsung’s own Exynos 7420 processor instead of the Snapdragon 810. Now, everyone is wondering what processor will be powering the new Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge?
We have some new rumours that are saying Samsung will be using both the Snapdragon and Exynos processor depending on the region or wireless carrier. The Snapdragon 820 powered models are listed for China (SM-G9300, SM-G9350), Verizon (SM-G930V, SM-G935V), Sprint (SM-G930P, SM-G935P) and US Cellular (SM-G930R4, SM-G935R4). Basically, all CDMA carriers.
However, the Exynos 8 Octa 8890 will be powering the international unlocked models (SM-G930F, SM-G935F), T-Mobile (SM-G930T, SM-G935T), AT&T (SM-G930A, SM-G935A), Canada (SM-G930W8, SM-G935W8) and Korean variants (SM-G930 S/K/L, SM-G935 S/K/L).
We can’t confirm just how accurate this rumour is, but we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out.

AT&T will carry Samsung’s ludicrously large Galaxy View on Friday
AT&T announced on Monday that it will offer service for the gigantor 18.4-inch Galaxy View beginning Friday, November 20th. The tablet supports DirectTV and, as such, AT&T customers that sign up for a new satellite package as well as the two-year wireless service will get their View for $100. Existing customers will have to buy a new line on a smartphone plan as well as the two-year service agreement to get their View discounted. The tablet will be available in both retail outlets and online at ATT.com.

AT&T will offer the Samsung Galaxy View with a cheap DirecTV offer
If you’ve been itching to grab a Samsung Galaxy View since it was announced a few weeks ago but didn’t want to shell out the full price that everyone has been asking for it, AT&T and DirecTV may have an offer you’d be interested in.
If you want to spend full price and walk out with the Galaxy View with no obligations, AT&T will sell it to you in store or online. However, if you’re a new DirecTV customer you can score a Galaxy View for just $99 if you sign a two-year agreement with the company, which will also give you a new enormous screen to watch DirecTV on. If you’re already a DirecTV customer, you can start up a new AT&T Next plan for a smartphone to also get the Galaxy View for $99.
If DirecTV isn’t your thing, AT&T will still sell the tablet to you, just without any special promotions. The View runs $499 on a two-year contract, and it’s also eligible for AT&T Next, which should cost around $30 a month for 20 months.
AT&T will begin carrying the Galaxy View on November 20th, just a few days away from today.

The massive 18.4″ Samsung Galaxy View tablet arrives Nov. 20 at AT&T
AT&T is first again in getting a new device. Most recently they got the LG Urbane Watch 2nd Edition in before all other carriers, and now they will be offering the massive 18.4″ Samsung Galaxy View. The Samsung Galaxy View is one of the largest tablets you can get your hands on with an 18.4″ 1080p display, LTE connectivity, a built-in kickstand since you’ll be watching a lot of video on it, and large speakers to make your movie watching a complete experience.
The Galaxy View comes with 64GB of built-in memory, and with a battery that offers eight full hours of continuous play. With 64GB(expandable to 128GB) of on-board storage, there is plenty of space to download hours of entertainment as that is exactly what the Galaxy View is designed to be.
In just four days on November 20th, the Samsung Galaxy View will be available to purchase at AT&T.com and in AT&T stores nationwide. Customers have three options when making a purchase:
- Two-year agreement for $499.99 with a $10 access charge to a Mobile Share Value plan
- $30 per month for 20 months on the AT&T Tablet Installment plan
- New or existing customers of DIRECTV can pay $99.99 for the tablet with a two-year agreement
“The Samsung Galaxy View is the best parts of a TV and tablet, designed with entertainment as its primary focus,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Device Marketing and Developer Services, AT&T Mobility. “We know our customers are watching video in ways they never used to, and with this tablet you can shift where and when content is consumed. No other Samsung device provides this combination of integrated entertainment experience and value.”
As a fan of Samsung I might have to check this tablet out. Although I don’t think I would be travelling much with it, because it is so massive.

If they mated: Samsung has a Galaxy S6-esque Android flip phone with some surprising specs
Samsung has released some very interesting devices over the years, including a 7-inch phone and a series of dual-screen flip phones known as the Galaxy Golden. This year, the Korean conglomerate let loose a redesigned Galaxy S6 proving that even its most stable staples are subject to scrutiny and substitution. Few might have considered what a mash-up of the latter two objects of obsession may have managed if they mated. Thankfully Samsung has gone and created it anyway:

Behold the SM-W2016. While a name has yet to be attached to the product number, one might surmise that the “W” has to do with the double screen, and 2016 could be the year it will release. Indeed the device itself could end up being called the Galaxy W (2016), especially since SamMobile has stated it will not be called the Galaxy Golden 3.
Thanks to its time at the TENAA, specs have already been provided. The device, which has glass and metal, will include two 3.9-inch SAMOLED displays (1280X768), a 64-Bit Octa Core Exynos 7420 SoC, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of on-board storage, a 16-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel rear camera. The device has Android 5.1.1, features an obligatory T9 numeric keypad, weighs 204 grams and is 120.4 x 61 x 15.1 mm.
Those whose mouth are still agape in awe at this product should consider that (1) it will probably not release outside Asia, and (2) Samsung itself has yet to make any official announcement so at this stage it’s too early to say anything super specific.
The Galaxy Golden (Korean variant pictured) was also released in China and several other Asian markets.
With that said however, there is something definitely defiant about a flip phone adorned in metal and glass. Perhaps even more so given the presence of the bio-metric sensor along the back side. Whereas the Galaxy Golden line was targeting consumers in their “golden years”, this device almost seems to destined for the younger market, especially considering the specs inside.
As for the issue of if a flip phone form factor works with Android, several companies in Asia currently manufacturer such products, including Samsung, Sharp, and LG. Would you be interested in this one? Please leave your comments below and be sure to let us know!
An early build of Marshmallow found on a T-Mobile branded Galaxy Note 5
Right off the heels of a leaked Samsung roadmap for Android 6.0, an XDA user with a Galaxy Note 5 on T-Mobile was found running an early build of Marshmallow for the device. Considering that the Galaxy Note 5 is rumored to get Android 6.0 this December, this early build could have some credibility to it.
The XDA user isn’t exactly sure how he received Marshmallow on his device, noting that it could’ve happened during the time that his IMEI number was lost, thus confusing the OTA system. The build number for the firmware is MRA58K.N920TUVU2DOK, and it seems to have many of the features found in Marshmallow (e.g. the new permissions features), implying this isn’t a hoax.
Being an early build, the phone’s cellular radio doesn’t work, but this does indicate that Marshmallow could be available before the end of this year, as was gathered with the aforementioned leaked software rollout document for many of Samsung’s Galaxy devices.
Keep in mind that nothing’s official until we hear something from Samsung or a carrier, but it’s certainly hard to not get excited of how close this could be to hitting many of Samsung’s latest devices. Anyone excited for Marshmallow?
