Deal: grab an unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note 5 for only $549.99

samsung galaxy note 5 review second batch aa (2 of 15)

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is definitely among the best smartphones you can currently buy. The only issue is that it’s also one of the most expensive handsets out there, which means most of us have to break the piggy bank if we want the privilege of owning one of these super-sized smartphones.

There’s plenty of Black Friday and Cyber Week deals out there, but those who like an unlocked handset will probably prefer the new discount eBay seller 232tech is currently holding on the Galaxy Note 5. Samsung’s popular phablet can now be yours for only $549.99!

We understand that’s still a good chunk of cash, but it’s also significantly cheaper than getting it from other retailers. Carriers will still sell it to you for about $700, and it’s still $640 from Amazon. With that in mind, we say $550 is definitely a good deal!

For those who may be out of the loop, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 comes with a large 5.7-inch QHD screen, an Exynos 7420 CPU, 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, a 16 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front shooter and a 3000 mAh battery. Not a bad phone at all, if you ask me.

Just make sure you act fast if you want to get your hands on this over-sized smartphone. Remember these eBay deals don’t last forever. Plus, the seller has sold over 829 units and more than 61% of his stock.

The Exynos 8890 destroys record, scores over 100,000 in AnTuTu benchmark

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

The release of the Exynos 7420 by Samsung this year showed that the chipset part of the Korean manufacturer’s business is deadly serious when it comes to processor performance – and it looks like the upcoming Exynos 8890 is no different. The previous high score on any AnTuTu benchmark was 94,000, achieved by the recently announced Huawei Mate 8, powered by the brand-spanking new Kirin 950 processor. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Exynos 8890 has blown that record out of the water, scoring 103,692 in a leaked benchmark found on the AnTuTu database.

Now we know that benchmarks aren’t necessarily a good indication of day-to-day usage and we know that Samsung isn’t always 100% honest when it comes to benchmarking performance on their devices, but at the very least, it looks like the Exynos 8890 is going to have what it takes to hang it with the best of the best in the coming new year – again, to nobody’s real surprise. The Exynos 8890 is expected to feature in Samsung’s flagships in 2016 so we can’t wait to see if this lab-specific performance can be replicated in daily usage.

What do you think about the Exynos 8890’s AnTuTu benchmark performance? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Samsung’s new Exynos 8890 SoC tops all benchmark results on AnTuTu

samsung_exynos_mongoose_logo_hack

There’s a chance that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S7 flagship will be powered by the company’s in-house Exynos 8890 SoC. Just recently, the chipset posted a benchmark score on AnTuTu that topped the results sheet.

Samsung’s Exynos 8890 chipset will replace the older Exynos 7 octa 7740 processor found in Samsung’s latest flagship models. A leak from China shows off an incredible benchmark score of 103,692 on AnTuTu. That tops each and every score ever posted on AnTuTu. The processor was tested on an unknown device coded SM-G9300, which is likely some form of the Galaxy S7. If this stands true, the Galaxy S7 will leave competitors in disbelief time come launch.

The Galaxy S7 is expected to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2016 and we can’t wait to see what Samsung has in tow for the year ahead. We’ll have you covered on all the leaks, rumors and reports from now till then so stay tuned!

Samsung speculation: what’s the point of the Galaxy View?

The Samsung Galaxy View is a very odd tablet. It has a giant 18.4-inch display with only a 1080p resolution, and overall, the specs just aren’t very good for a tablet this size. Why does it exist? Samsung tries to explain.

Samsung wants you to gift Samsung products this Christmas

Samsung-Gear-VR

Samsung has released a new ad for the holidays called “Give the Gift of Galaxy”. The ad basically shows people unwrapping presents with, you guessed it, Samsung products inside.

The ad is only 30 seconds long, but they managed to cram in a ton of products. Products like the Galaxy View, Gear S2 smartwatch, Gear VR, all of their flagship Galaxy phones, and more.

I like the end where it says “It’s not a phone, it’s a Galaxy”. While I hate the fact that they name many of their products with Galaxy first, since I always have to write it a million times, it works well for this. Implying that they have a large amount of “star” products. However, will you be giving, or wanting the gift of Galaxy this Christmas?

[Deal] Woot is selling unlocked Samsung handsets for under $300

samsung-phones-woot

Woot, as part of Black Friday, has started selling Unlocked variants of Samsung’s Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy Note 4. While they might not be Samsung’s newest offerings, the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 are still great performers today.

Woot is also selling some other smartphones, but they’re definitely much less impressive than the Samsung offerings.

Here’s what Woot is selling:

Keep in mind that these are refurbished models, though that might not necessarily be a downside, as they’ve been inspected in greater detail than when coming right off the presses. The big benefit of this deal is that you’ll be able to get a relatively good high-end smartphone for cheap. Not only that, but you’ll also be able to save a lot of money by going prepaid with one of these unlocked handsets.

Any takers?

Heed these warnings if you get a VR headset this holiday season

Samsung-Gear-VR

The Samsung Gear VR, along with units from other manufacturers, is hitting the market this holiday season, meaning there will be plenty of people in possession of the devices. If you happen to be one of those people or have a friend who gets a set, you may want to make sure they are aware of these safety warnings.

Two of the issues that can arise with Gear VR have to do with the fact that the devices have fairly powerful lens in them that are capable of focusing light over a short distance. Those old enough to remember may recall what happens with a magnifying glass, ants and sunlight – the same thing can happen with Gear VR. If the headset is left with the lenses up, sunlight can be focused onto whatever is below it, including your smartphone or possible flammable materials, igniting or melting them. So avoid leaving them laying around in this manner outside or anywhere inside where the path of sunlight may cross them.

Because those lenses normally focus light on your eyes, usually from your smartphone, it is important the units only be used with the smartphone installed in them. Using them “naked” means outside light will pass through the lenses and get focused on your eyes. This is especially important to avoid when dealing with sunlight, but any bright light can result in damage to your eyes from the magnification of light passing through.

Finally, Samsung and other manufacturers are recommending that VR devices not be used by children under the age of 13. The concern is that extensive use of the devices could affect visual development in children. Even older children are cautioned not to use the devices for extended periods of time to prevent problems from developing with or related to their eyesight.

If you get Gear VR or some other headset this season, be sure to be careful and mindful of these issues and have fun with this new technology.

ZeroLemon launches 3,500mAh battery case for Galaxy S6 Edge+ & Note 5

edge+ case zerolemon

ZeroLemon, the accessory maker that specializes in battery cases for smartphones, has launched new 3,500 mAh units for the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5.

At present, the most common solution to juicing up a smartphone is to carry a portable power bank. Carrying a power bank is pretty common these days. However, it’s a cumbersome task at times, adding one extra item to your carry bag. ZeroLemon’s solution are battery cases, and they’ve just released new ones for the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5.

verus-note-5-caseSee also: Best Galaxy Note 5 cases & accessories20

The new battery cases have a built-in 3,500 mAh battery, which are capable of fully charging the internal battery of either device. Basically, slapping the ZeroLemon battery case to your Galaxy phablet will probably double your battery life. But the extra battery life comes at a cost – your phone will be heavier, thicker, and a lot less sexy.

Both models come with a black TPU case, which houses the 3,500mAh batteries, where you can slide your phone in with ease without having to worry about any wire connections. The TPU case does add some level of protection to your phone from accidents such as hard drops, but as mentioned previously, it makes your device quite bulky.

ZeroLemon’s new battery cases are now available on Amazon. While the suggested retail price is $69.99, you can find listings as low as $39.99 for these newly launched products. Granted, one can simply buy a power bank for cheaper and carry it around, however, the benefit of having a product such as a battery case is certainly worth considering.

Samsung Galaxy View ad suggests the titanic device is “Entertainment Reimagined”

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

There are many words to describe the Samsung Galaxy View – huge, very large, gargantuan and monstrous all seem like appropriate words. “Entertainment Reimagined” doesn’t exactly make the list, but that’s what Samsung is trying to push in its latest Samsung Galaxy View ad which portrays the device as the perfect device for the home. Boasting the tagline “it’s not a TV; it’s not a tablet,” Samsung is presumably channelling its inner Superman, but we’re still wondering whether if that’s the right way to go about it – regardless, here’s the ad if you want to have a gander:

We can’t deny that having a 18.4-inch display around the home is a pretty convenient thing, in specific scenarios, but with smart TVs (and assorted mini PCs) becoming more and more prevalent, the benefit of the Galaxy View over a smart TV seems minimal at best. Still, starting at $499 USD, it’s not a hugely expensive device given its huge footprint, and there are definitely environments where the Galaxy View is going to excel.
