Samsung to launch a 13-inch tablet by year’s end

Samsung_Galaxy_Tab-s-10.5According to rumors straight out of South Korea, Samsung is toying with the idea of making a 13-inch tablet and that said tablet will be here by the end of 2014. However unlike Samsung’s current line up, these devices won’t sport a SAMOLED display.

The new 13-inch tablet will sport an LCD display versus Samsung’s stable SAMOLED like that of the latest Galaxy Tab S series.

The idea for a bigger tablet has come off of some of the success that larger tablets are having. That being said, there are no other aspects to discuss. We have no idea whether or not the new tablet will follow the same design changes that the A series or the Note 4 introduced. We don’t know whether Lollipop will be on-board or not. We also don’t know whether or not the device will pack one of Samsung’s new 64-bit processors.

As per the usual, only time will tell.

First specs for Samsung Galaxy S6 surface online

samsung_logo

Last week we reported that Samsung is planning on totally changing its smartphone strategy, and this starts with them code-naming the Galaxy S6 “Project Zero“, allegedly because they’re starting from scratch. Well, SamMobile has some details from their “insiders” detailing some specs from the Galaxy S6.

The display on the Galaxy S6 will have a QHD (2560×1440) resolution, with an undetermined screen size. The camera sensor will be the same found in the Galaxy Note 4, though they’re still deciding between 16 MP and 20 MP, with the front camera 5 MP. It will come with 32, 64, and 128 GB variations.

The Galaxy S6 will be powered by the new Exynos 7420, which is a 64-bit chip with four Cortex-A53 and four Cortex-A57 cores. Evidently this chip will also have an in-house LTE modem as opposed to the modem from Intel currently powering a majority of Samsung’s devices. It will also have a Qualcomm variant, utilizing the Snapdragon 810. SamMobile guesses the Galaxy S6 will have 3 GB of RAM.

Take all of this information with a grain of salt, as any and all of this could change at any moment considering they’re starting over and are still in development.

Personally, while all of these specs sound good, I’ll be looking more towards the design and software that come on the device to see what changes Samsung has brought to its flagship to separate it from the rest of its line-up. It’d also be really nice if they were more communicative of their upgrade schedule, and took an effort to provide a timeline as HTC has with its HTC Advantage promise.

What do you think, do these specs sound good to you? What would you like to see from the supposedly new direction Samsung is taking?

Samsung’s curved Gear S smartwatch hits the UK on November 7th for £329

With Android Wear still struggling to get out of the starting blocks, Samsung is hoping its latest Tizen-powered smartwatch can make some headway in the UK. The sleek Gear S, which comes with a curved 2-inch Super AMOLED display, will be available from November 7 for an eye-watering £329. The mammoth price-tag will almost certainly make it a niche product, although the device has a few tricks up its sleeve to tempt early smartwatch adopters. Unlike most wrist-worn wearables, it doesn’t need to be paired with a smartphone, and boasts 3G and built-in GPS. You can even take calls Dick Tracy-style when you’re too lazy to pull out your phone — just don’t blame us if you get funny looks when you do.

Samsung brings Korea’s elderly a new flip-phone with dual screens

Samsung’s Master range of flip-phones for the elderly only launched in May, and already the company is ready with a follow-up. The new Master Dual’s biggest new feature is, unsurprisingly, the addition of a 2.2-inch display above the clamshell that complements the 3-incher that’s tucked inside. In every other respect, we’re looking at a pretty basic device, with a 3-megapixel primary camera, GPS and 2G radios. On the upside, it does have a peace-of-mind feature if you’re concerned about your folks, since the phone will alert relatives if it hasn’t been used in a set period of time. If you’re in Korea and have 300,300 won in your back pocket (around $280) then you can grab one of these from your local branch of SK Telecom.

How and where to buy: Note 4 and Note Edge

Galaxy-Note_4

The Galaxy Note 4 is the newest Note to be offered by Samsung. The Note series has been one of the most successful series of Android phones to be offered. This year Samsung outdid themselves in the form of offering a spec monster. With a Quad HD screen, a top in processor, 3GB of ram, and metal frame Note fans agree this is a worthy successor for a phone know to have all the latest and greatest tech. Here at AndroidGuys we want to let you the user know when and where you can get the hottest products Android has to offer.

This year Samsung offers two distinct versions of the Note 4. The first is the same Note people recognize and the second and odd brother the Note edge. Both devices offer the same specifications with the only difference being the Note edge offers and odd curved screen on the side and a more familiar polymer frame. While the Note 4 has been readily announced and rumored to have been pushed up this year the Note edge seems to be a rare oddity with availability and release dates here and there.

First up the Note 4

  • Availability: The Note is available on all the major carriers in the U.S. and is available worldwide. The key for people outside the U.S. is to purchase the correct note for your carrier. Just like years before Samsung offers multiple variants for different markets with the last release tomorrow Nov. 5th.
  • Cost: $720.00 to 849.99 off contract depending on carrier. $299.99 for a two year agreement. There are also payment plans for $0 plus tax starting at $31.29 per month for 24 months and going up from there depending on carrier and finance terms.

The note 4 is also available through Amazon, Best Buy, and Ebay.

 Note Edge

The Note Edge is an oddity with its curved screen on one side. Early rumors suggested Samsung used it to show off a bit with its technology in screens and never intended for its release. However the Note edge is a production phone and will be available after the Note 4.

  • Availability: The Note Edge release date was for a time as mysterious as the phone itself. The official releases date is November 14th. AT&T will have pre-orders starting November 7th. T-Mobile also announced availability starting Nov. 14th. Sprint and Verizon expected to offer the edge soon.
  • Cost: $860.00 on T-mobile and $945.99 on AT&T. $399.00 for a 2 year contract agreement with AT&T. AT&T will offer a $0 down and $39.42 a month as will T-mobile for $0 down and $36.25 a month for 24 months. Sprint and Verizon no word on price or plans.

The Note Edge will be available in more markets such as Europe later this year and possibly into 2015. Pricing for models outside the U.S. peg it a just under $1000.00.

The Note 4 appears to be readily available and no stock issues are apparent. AndroidGuys will update as soon as any new news is available for the Note 4 and Note Edge. We will also alert to any price change or sales for each model as soon as its available.

Amazon Note 4, AT&T Note 4, Sprint Note 4, Verizon Note 4, T-Mobile Note 4, Best Buy Note 4

Galaxy Grand 3 specs leaked in benchmarks

samsung galaxy grand primeSamsung’s latest in the Galaxy Grand line may have leaked in benchmarks, confirming some specs for the device. If the benchmarks are accurate, the Galaxy Grand 3 will be the SM-G7200 and will feature some decent midrange hardware.

The benchmarks say the phone will sport a large 5.5-inch 720p screen powered by a Snapdragon 410 CPU. There’s 1.5 GB of RAM on board, and it looks like an Adreno 306 will be the GPU of choice. The cameras are decent, with a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front facing shooter. Expect to hear about selfies whenever Samsung announces this one. On the software side of things, it looks like it’ll ship with Android 4.4.

No word on release date, but it’s been awhile since the Grand 2, so I wouldn’t expect Samsung to wait much longer before making this one official.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S now packs speedy LTE-Advanced data

Samsung Galaxy Tab S LTE-A

Samsung isn’t saving extra-quick mobile data for its smartphones. The company has unveiled a version of the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 with 225Mbps LTE-Advanced inside, giving the tablet a very fast connection while away from WiFi. It’s enough to grab 421 songs in a single minute, if you believe the official estimates. It’s otherwise the same Android slate you’ve seen before, although that’s not a bad thing given the slim profile and super-vivid display. The catch? You’ll likely have to move to get one. Samsung has only announced the upgraded Tab S for South Korea, where it will cost 799,700 won ($743). Given that other countries haven’t hopped on the LTE-A bandwagon yet, you could be waiting a while before this device (or more likely, one of its sequels) comes your way.

‘Project Zero’ is allegedly the codename for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S6

Samsung_Logo_01_TA_CES_2014

Now that Samsung has unveiled and released all its flagship smartphones for 2014, reports are starting to emerge claiming that the Galaxy S6 is now in the early stages of development.

Although exact specifications are currently unclear, the handset has officially been dubbed ‘Project Zero’, which is a strong indication that Samsung is trying to achieve something unique and different with the Galaxy S6.

This is the first time that the South Korean manufacturer has decided to go with such a bold tag. In the past, it has always used alphabet letters as internal branding for its flagship devices, for example: Project J (Galaxy S4), Project H (Galaxy Note 3), Project K (Galaxy S5) and Project T (Galaxy Note 4).

So what’s the reasoning behind the Project Zero codename? Well, sources operating from within Samsung have reported that the company is developing its “next-generation flagship device from scratch, with an entirely new vision.”

The Galaxy S6 probably won’t be announced until February 2015, which means we have quite a while to wait until we find out more about the device from Samsung. No doubt, we’ll be seeing plenty of leaks, rumors and speculation over the coming weeks, though.

Samsung’s curvy Galaxy Note Edge reaches the US November 14th

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge

If you’ve been jonesing to get Samsung’s one-of-a-kind Galaxy Note Edge in the US, you now have a date to mark on your calendar. The bent-screen Android smartphone will be available in the US starting November 14th, with the five biggest carriers (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and US Cellular) all on tap either on the 14th or in the weeks afterward. You’ll be paying an extravagant sum for that eye-catching display, however. Sprint is offering the Edge on a $35 per month payment plan ($840 total), while AT&T will sell it for $400 on contract, or an eye-watering $950 up front — you’d better really, really like curved screens. Other carriers haven’t divulged pricing just yet, but it’s safe to say that they’ll charge similar amounts. Who knew that the Galaxy Note 4 would seem like a bargain?
