Deal: Get a free Galaxy S6 with any other Galaxy flagship purchase at AT&T

Dayum, this is a pretty sweet deal. AT&T is offering a free 32 GB Galaxy S6 to anyone that purchases a Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, S6 Active or Note 5 on an AT&T Next instalment plan. Both devices will need to be on a Next plan, but considering one of them is for free, it’s a pretty awesome offer.
If you’re not particularly keen on the Galaxy S6, AT&T is also offering the S6 Active as the free device, or up to $595 in monthly bill credits so you can choose any other eligible Galaxy device you like. The free S6 will need to be a new activation and you’ll have to pay the taxes on both devices upfront.
The offer isn’t available in Connecticut, Rhode Island or Miami-Dade and you need to keep both devices “in good standing” (that means pay your bill) for the first month before the monthly bill credits kick in after three bill cycles. The offer is available until March 31 (at least in Puerto Rico) and both handsets must be on Next plans of at least $70 per month. With the Galaxy S7 being unveiled in less than two weeks at MWC 2016, you know more deals like this are coming soon.
Samsung to launch Public Safety LTE in Korea
Samsung’s plans of using its strong LTE technology for emergency services are taking shape. The Korean company has revealed that it’s providing the infrastructure and devices for the country’s Public Safety LTE network. People will be able to use the connection during emergency situations, and first responders can connect to it to download videos and high-resolution images of the location they’re going to. They could, for instance, tap into the network to check if flooded areas can still be reached by land. Samsung claims that when it launches, it’ll be the “first live PS-LTE network in the world using the 3GPP telecommunications standard.”
As we mentioned in the past, 3GPP is an international group of telecommunications bodies that hash out network standards (GPRS, 3G and LTE). Samsung’s PS-LTE will initially be accessible in Seoul, since that’s where the main control center is. It will then expand in stages, starting with the Gangwon province after its initial rollout this year, until it becomes a nationwide presence in 2017.

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge press render leaks out thanks to @evleaks
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
At some point, you get the sense that Android smartphone manufacturers just accept that leaks are just a fact of life. That must be the case at Samsung right now as details of its flagship smartphones are being leaked out left, right and centre. A few days ago we got a look at the wallpapers that are going to come with the Samsung Galaxy S7 devices, and today (thanks to leaker @evleaks) we’re getting a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge press render that again confirms the design that Samsung is going with this year.
In case you haven’t seen anything about the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge yet, just imagine the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge, and round off the edges just a bit – and you’re pretty much all the way there. There are very little differences in the overall design for this year’s iteration, but you can bet that all the major changes are in the software – and it’s rumoured that Samsung has had some help making its software more efficient. Whatever these changes are, we’ll have to wait till Feb 21st when Samsung will be making their announcement at MWC 2016 – or you know, if we wait another day, we’ll probably get a few more details.

New render shows off the curves of the Galaxy S7 Edge
Another day, another leak for the Samsung Galaxy S7. This time around it is a new picture of the upcoming Galaxy S7 Edge.
Just earlier today we showed you what looks to be leaked images of a real S7, and now a press image leaks of the S7 Edge. There have been so many leaked images of the S7 I am starting to think they might not all be “accidentally” leaked.
Nothing really different in terms of design from what we have seen from the other S7 Edge leaks. Overall, the phone is actually quite similar to the current S6 Edge as well. However, last years S6 Edge looked gorgeous and it looks like the S7 Edge won’t change that.

Marshmallow update arrives for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in Europe
![]()
The European Marshmallow update has finally begun for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. T-Mobile Poland tweeted to say the update was coming a couple of days ago and the first OTA updates are arriving as we speak. South Korean Galaxy owners only got the update two weeks ago, so things are moving quickly.

As always in Europe, new Samsung firmware is typically soak-tested in either Poland or the Baltic states before rolling out to the larger Western European countries. Fortunately if you’re in Europe, you can simply grab the relevant unlocked firmware and flash it on your international S6 or S6 Edge rather than wait for the update to arrive in your country.

Here’s the Galaxy S6 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update changelog which also holds for the S6 Edge:
- Exercise greater control over app permissions
- Purchase easily and securely with Fingerprint support
- Experience enhanced battery-life through Doze
- Redesigned App Drawer
To check for the update, go to Settings > About phone > System updates > Check for updates. If you think it might be a little while before you see Marshmallow touch down on your Galaxy device, take a look at Nirave’s video above of the update to see what’s coming.
When do you think you’ll see Marshmallow? What do you think of the changes?
Leaked images shows the front and rear of the Galaxy S7
As we edge closer to the official unveiling of Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge handsets, it’s getting to the point that we know almost everything about them. Today’s leak brings us images of the Galaxy S7’s front and rear, with an interesting factoid thrown in to spice things up a little. Join us after the break for more details.
The leaked images come courtesy of pisapapeles.net, who managed to get their hands on a display model. As you can see from the image above, the Galaxy S7 follows on with the same design language as the S6, but with more refinement. The bezels appear slightly thinner and the camera bump on the rear of the handset is less pronounced.
According to the site, the Galaxy S7 does not feature USB Type-C, instead, it carries on with the normal MicroUSB port. That’s a little disappointing if correct. When you are paying over the odds for the latest and greatest smartphone, you do expect it to feature the latest, most up-to-date hardware.
Still, according to previous leaks, it would seem the Samsung has at least listened to its fans by putting a larger battery in both S7 models, with the S7 thought to carry a 3,000mAh battery, and the S7 Edge a 3,600mAh.
If you can’t wait for the announcement, you can always download the leaked stock wallpapers from the Galaxy S7 Edge to give your current device a makeover. Has Samsung got anything left up its sleeve to surprise us at the launch on February 21st?

Unofficial Google Street View for Gear VR looks pretty sweet

So StreetView VR has just arrived for Samsung’s Gear VR headset, and it’s kind of really cool. Even though it wasn’t developed by Google, StreetView VR uses data from Google Street View to create the Gear’s first world-sized free-roaming VR/AR experience.
That VR/AR description is earned from the app’s fluid Wikipedia integration. Wherever you are, you can activate an in-app Wikipedia browser that gives you more information about things that are nearby, all without popping you out of the virtual reality experience. Roam as far as you want, from Iceland to Taipei, and you’ll always find new immersive content to explore.

There are some downsides. Since this pulls from Street View, you’re not getting true depth in these VR images. It’s really more like a massive collection of immersive 360-degree images than true stereoscopic virtual reality. Nevertheless, this lack of depth is more than made up for with the slew of other features. Search for locations using voice controls or a standard virtual keyboard, share a tour with some friends with the built-in voice chat, and toggle directional arrows for navigation in the settings menu.

All in all, the app is a pretty cool service, and it’s definitely worth checking out if you’ve got a Samsung Gear VR lying around. Give it a spin, then let us know what you think in the comments below!
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge 3600 mAh battery confirmed, thanks to FCC

While the Galaxy S6 family got a lot of things right for Samsung, there were at least a few small missteps too. First, there was the lack of microSD, and the lack of a removable battery. The GS6 family also removed waterproofing from the mix, and had relatively unimpressive battery life compared to many other phones of the time. With the Galaxy S7, Samsung is set to follow the same design philosophy as it did last year while also addressing some of these shortcomings.
The rumor mill already has suggested that microSD, waterproofing, and bigger batteries are all par for the course with the new Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Now thanks to a FCC filing for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, we can confirm that small battery size is one issue that the GS7 family won’t have to contend with.

The rumors already pointed to a 3000 mAh and a 5.1-inch display for the Galaxy S7, with a 3600 mAh battery and 5.5-inch display for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Now an FCC label document confirms the 3600 mAh size, though no similar documentation exists for the Galaxy S7 as far as we can tell. That said, it’s probably a safe bet that if the 3600 mAh rumor was right, so is the 3000 mAh claim for the standard Galaxy S7.

The big question now is if a 3600 mAh battery means that the Galaxy S7 Edge will have monster battery life, or if the power demands from its hardware are so great that this is merely a means of keeping up. For what it’s worth, the Nexus 6P has one of the best battery lives out there (the Mate 8 beats it easily, though) in the Android world and manages to get about a day and half battery life for the typical user. Considering the Snapdragon 820 and Exynos 8890 are supposedly optimized to further improve battery life, we’d expect similar, if not better, battery performance here. Of course, it’s really too early to say for sure.
What do you think, excited by the Galaxy S7 Edge? Disappointed by the jump in screen size, or do you think it will prove to be a wise move?
Waterproof Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge parts spotted on import site
“Waterproof” components for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have appeared online, strongly suggesting that the upcoming smartphones will at least be water resistant.
The parts, seen on import-export tracking website Zauba, show a series of pieces originating from South Korea for mobile phones ‘for captive consumption’. Model numbers SM-G930 and SM-G935 have been associated with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in the past, and they’re both listed in the document.
Rumors of a waterproof or water resistant Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have been doing the rounds online for months and this latest finding has added fuel to the flames. It seems that a clearer picture of the design and specs of the two devices is slowly coming together as their unveiling draws closer.
Among the waterproof parts on Zauba are a SIM tray, microphone and gasket tape. A source claiming to be a Samsung employee last month shared some information with Phone Arena and VentureBeat also suggesting that the Galaxy S7 will be dust and waterproof.
Just recently, an image arriving courtesy of Vietnamese website Review Dao was said to show the Samsung Galaxy S7 in the flesh. The smartphone looks fairly familiar when compared to other leaks spotted in the past and also features the recognizable camera setup.
Meanwhile, a leaked picture from the FCC suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge will arrive with a mighty 3,600 mAh battery. Multiple sources suggest that the Galaxy S7 will carry a 3,000 mAh battery.
MWC 2016 is fast approaching and we’re expecting Samsung to finally lift the lid on its highly anticipated devices once and for all. There’s no official word on waterproofing for the S7 and S7 Edge at the time of writing, but if Samsung were to include the feature it’d undoubtedly put smiles on plenty of faces.
