Rumour says Samsung might skip on releasing an Edge version of the Note 5
If you’re a fan of the Galaxy Note Edge and were hoping to pick up this year’s version you may be disappointed according to today’s rumour. While some of us have been looking forward to seeing Samsung launch a dual-edged version of the upcoming Note 5, it seems that the Korean tech giant might not be on the same page.
The rumour says that Samsung doesn’t have any plans to release a Note 5 Edge and that only the standard version of the Note 5 will be announced in September at the IFA in Berlin. It’s widely believed that the Note 5 will carry the following specifications:
- 5.89-Inch display with 2560 x 1440 (2K) resolution
- Exynos 7422 processor
- 4GB of RAM
- UFS 2.0 Flash memory
- 4,100mAh battery
- 7.9mm thin
- Android 5.1.1
- Auto-ejecting S Pen (rumoured)
- USB Type-C (rumoured)
All that is nice and good, really, but what about us folk that held off from buying the Note Edge last year in the hopes that the 2015 version would be better implemented?
It should be said that this is just yet another rumour. It may or may not be correct, and the proverbial pinch of salt should be taken when reading rumours from unnamed sources. There’s still a couple of months to go until the big unveiling. Until then, you can guarantee that this will not be the last rumour we hear about the Note 5. I wouldn’t even bet against it being the only rumour today.
There is another way to look at this: Could Samsung have decided to only release a dual-edged Note 5 and forego the standard version? How’s that for an example of looking for a silver lining.
Finally, a couple of my own worries about the Note 5. With the praise that the Galaxy S6 design received, I wonder if the Note 5 will incorporate design cues from Samsung’s latest Galaxy S flagship. If so, will it also break with tradition by not supporting MicroSD cards and moving to a non-removable battery? Only time will tell. It’s going to be quite a ride until IFA in September, that’s for sure.

No Samsung Galaxy Note Edge will be announced this year, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus to blame?

Due to the success of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and its dual-curved cousin, the Galaxy S6 Edge, we had assumed that Samsung would be releasing a similarly dual-curved display device at IFA 2015 alongside the inevitable release of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. However, a rumour has come out today to say that no Samsung Galaxy Note Edge will be announced this year, which is surprising indeed if true.
That said, the absence of a Note Edge variant in September could very well have to do with the release of the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, which has yet to be officially announced by Samsung, but with its rumoured release coming in a matter of weeks, its presence would be a logical reason why a Note Edge variant doesn’t make much sense. For those wondering, the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is rumoured to be a 5.7-inch version of the Galaxy S6 Edge. Of course, we have to take this news with the ever-present grain of rice, but really we won’t know what is actually up until September.
What do you think about no Samsung Galaxy Note Edge being announced this year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Samsung Safety Truck brings new look to road safety
Tapping into their expertise in large format displays, in Argentina Samsung has been testing a prototype system for trucks in hopes of improving safety. The Samsung Safety Truck takes a forward-facing digital camera and wirelessly connects it to four large video panels affixed to the back of a truck so following drivers can see the upcoming road and any hazards.
Samsung apparently chose Argentina for testing due to all the two-lane roads in the country and unfortunately, the challenges of passing big rigs which is causing a high number of deaths.
Along with helping overtaking drivers figure out whether such a maneuver is safe, the video panels can also help following drivers better anticipate decelerations due to hazards like animals crossing the road.
Samsung made sure to include night vision capabilities in the camera so the system is effective at night as well as during the day.
Samsung has taken the prototype vehicle out of operation and moved to the next stage of development, which is obtaining approval from various national regulatory agencies around the world. Although Samsung continues to work on the system, it does seem like it may be cost-prohibitive for deployment.

[Deal] T-Mobile supplying a free storage upgrade with the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge offer one of the best Android experiences ever. One huge reason to buy this phone is for the superior camera. It takes very large 16MP photos and can record all the way up to 4K video. It is also rumoured to be getting RAW image support in the future. These features are great, but one huge problem with all this is that they take tons of memory and unfortunately Samsung got rid of the micro SD card slot.
Storage space is a big problem if you plan on using this phone to the fullest. A five-minute full 4K video for example will take roughly 2GB of space. Samsung realized this and offer the phone in 32, 64, and 128GB, each one however with a substantial price increase.
Luckily for you, wanting additional storage space option without paying a ton is possible with T-Mobile’s latest deal. The carrier is having a sale from Wednesday to Saturday (June 24-27) for a free storage space increase. This means you can buy the Galaxy S6 with for the price of the 64GB model and receive the 128GB model free of charge. A great deal if you are in the market for a new phone.

Deal: T-Mobile offering a free storage upgrade with the purchase of a Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge

We just recently named the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge two of the best Android smartphones currently available on the market, and for good reason. These devices both feature incredible internal specifications, premium build quality and an overall great user experience. One of the biggest downfalls for these devices, though, is the steep price point. With that said, if you’ve been holding off buying one of these devices until they see a price drop, now may be your big chance.
T-Mobile is throwing in a free storage upgrade with the purchase of a Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge for no extra cost. That means that for the price of the 32GB model, you can get a 64GB, or you can grab a 128GB model for the price of the 64GB option. This promotion begins Wednesday, June 24th and ends Saturday, June 27th. When you consider the fact that the Galaxy S6 doesn’t have expandable storage, this becomes an even better deal.
Which one is right for you? Check out: Samsung Galaxy S6 vs Galaxy S6 Edge
But that’s not all! If you’re interested in purchasing either these devices from another carrier or retailer, Samsung has a great deal some of you may be able to get behind. From now until Sunday, July 5th, Samsung will throw in a $100 mail-in rebate with the purchase of a 64GB Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge at full retail price from the carrier or national retailer of your choice. The $100 rebate is to make up for the difference between the two storage options. For instance, if you purchase a 64GB Galaxy S6 from Verizon at full retail price then head to samsungpromotions.com to redeem the offer, Samsung will send you a $100 rebate. Awesome, right? Well if you’re a T-Mobile customer, the deal (might) get even better.

If you purchase a 64GB Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge from T-Mobile’s site, not only will the carrier charge you for the 32GB option, but you’ll probably be able to redeem Samsung’s offer as well. I’ve checked through Samsung’s Terms & Conditions page and I can’t seem to find anything that would stop you from using both discounts. Since both promotions are coming from two different sources, I’m pretty sure it will work.
If you’re interested, head to the T-Mobile links below, or follow this link to get more information about the promotion from Samsung.
International Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge variants begin receiving Android 5.1.1
It looks like Android 5.1.1 is going to be hitting various international Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, variants, according to a report from French publication Planete Galaxy and SamMobile.
According to Planete Galaxy, Android 5.1.1 is actually already rolling out to the Galaxy S6 (SM-G920F) in the French market. The online publication shows that the update is only 623MB in size, which is expected since 5.1.1 isn’t much of a major release, but more for bug fixes and performance improvements. The update fixes a lot of minor nuisances, such as being able to alphabetically organize apps in the app drawer. Planete Galaxy noted there were some other changes, such as being able to remove a few S features from the notification shade, too.
Better news comes way of SamMobile, who mentions that the update is available through Samsung Kies for the Galaxy S6 Edge (SM-G925F). The Samsung publication earlier reported that T-Mobile could be bringing Android 5.1.1 to the Samsung Galaxy S5, and is already available by way of Samsung Kies.
In other words, Android 5.1.1 should be available for most international variants of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge soon. It wouldn’t be surprising if we began hearing something more official directly from Samsung soon, followed by an OTA update.
As per the norm, you can check for the update manually in Settings > About Phone. If you have the update or have installed it ready, be sure to sound off in the comments!
