New leaked images of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Is the back panel removable?

The two most important questions to most Samsung Galaxy Note fans who are awaiting the next iteration are:

1. Is there a removable battery?

2. Is there a MicroSD card slot?

The Samsung Galaxy Note line is easily the most functional Android device. Not only was it the phone that pioneered larger screens, it also is the only phone to implement a stylus that actually works well. I’m a huge proponent of the Galaxy Note line as it always sets the stage for phones the following year. The Note typically comes with the fastest processor of the year, as next generation processors are typically announced and released in the 1st half of the calendar year, giving the Note ample time to integrate the new processors, since the Note is released in the second half of the year. Not only does it come with the latest processor, but it usually is the phone that ups RAM standards as well as display standards.

So it is safe to say, many people look forward to the Samsung Galaxy Note release every year and we have some images of what might be the next Samsung Galaxy Note 5. And people who love their Notes are very loyal to the function over design factor, so if I were a praying man, I would ask that Samsung please keep the removable battery and MicroSD card slot. We did see Samsung move away from both of those features in the Galaxy S6 line which angered many Samsung loyalists. Also keep in mind, the Note is one of the most expensive phones on the market, which means customers are looking for the best when they spend nearly a thousand dollars on one device.

Note-5-Main-Screen

From this blurry image, this phone looks very similar to the Note 4, and most might think you may not be able to gather much information from this picture. But if you look closely, it does look like the headphone jack has possibly been moved to the bottom of the device. As a Samsung Galaxy Note fanboy, this is a first if this is true and is truly a concern for me. Why? Because this gives more credibility to the rumors that the Note may have been redesigned to match the look and feel of the Samsung Galaxy S6. In order to keep the design and thickness to a minimum with the S6, Samsung moved the headphone jack to the bottom. In the picture, you can also see the stylus at the bottom right of the phone which gives this image credibility that it is actually a Note and not some other Samsung phone.Galaxy-S6-2-980x653

It also appears the speaker is squeezed in between the charging port and the stylus. The speaker port on the Note 4 was on the back. The Note 3 had the speaker on the bottom, so this might be an incorrect evaluation of the leaked picture, but I think by moving the speaker to the bottom of the Note 5 confirms the back will be made of glass and will be non-removable.

Note-5-Welcome

Analyzing this picture, my first question was why is there a screen protector on this device? I don’t know and don’t really think it takes away from or adds to the leak. But if you look at the left hand side, you see the volume buttons. On the Note 4, there was a volume rocker versus two separate buttons. If you look at the first leak in combination with the one right above, it looks like the volume control is now two distinct buttons like on the Galaxy S6. Having two volume buttons versus a volume rocker doesn’t really mean much, except it confirms the new Note design language is very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S6. Also take a look at the polished metal band that frames the phone. One thing you will notice is the phone fits very well within the metal frame. You can’t squeeze a business card in this new design! But it also looks like the metal frame around the Samsung Galaxy S6 in the image below which adds more fuel to the fire that this phone may not have a removeable back. As for the sensors, they are now moved to the left of the speaker which also matches the design of the S6. The sensors on the Note 4 were just to the right of the speaker.

So do we have answers to the two most popular questions about the Samsung Galaxy Note 5? Sadly, I think we do if these leaks are real. I don’t know the real reason why Samsung removed the MicroSD slot in the S6, some people say it is because no one really uses it and others speculate that Samsung listens to its customers and they claimed they wanted a better design and that better design eliminated the port for that slot. If Samsung really does listen to its customers, then why are they listening to most Samsung fans and removing the bloat from the software? My guess for Samsung removing the MicroSD slot is that they can charge more for memory upgrades. The 64GB S6 costs 100 dollars more than the 32Gb option. That’s a lot of money they were missing out on on.

As for the removal of the swappable battery, maybe Samsung thought customers didn’t need it since it would be replaced with wireless charging or the new fast chargers were sufficient to charge those large batteries. For those of us Note fans, we love having the ability to pick up a couple batteries from Amazon or Best Buy, and going from 0% power back up to 100% in less than a minute. That certainly beats fast charging and wireless charging. Note users are power users and need extra batteries without having to strap on a large battery pack. The phone is already big as it is, so assuming we would be okay with a battery pack is simply wrong. Also, most people know batteries have a limited number of charges so not being able to swap the battery gives this phone a lifespan of that battery. Note users charge their phones often because we use them a ton, which means we will reach our battery cycle limit faster than most.

I truly hope my analysis of these leaks is wrong, but I fear that I am right and Samsung has decided to go away from function to please those who care about design. If that is the case, this will be my last Samsung device and that makes me a sad customer.

I think it is funny the person who took the picture of the Note 5 is using an iPhone.

Samsung stepping up mobile security on the Galaxy Note 5

Samsung_Galaxy_Note_Edge_Front_Home_Button_TAWe’ve got another rumor to throw on top of the Galaxy Note 5 pile. Samsung is reportedly working on increasing mobile security in a handful of ways on the Note 5, including an improved security suite, a better fingerprint scanner, and a new trick that will link security elements to the phone’s processor.

Samsung has always taken security pretty seriously, which is evident by how many high-end phones they ship with KNOX on board, so these rumors seem pretty likely at this point.

The biggest thing they’re going for with the Note 5 will be speed. By linking security elements to the processor, communication between the two should theoretically be faster. KNOX should also be getting some speed improvements, and the fingerprint scanner will supposedly be getting a slight revision to make it more secure, too.

These features are mostly aimed at business and enterprise users looking for tight security on their phones, but even average consumers should be happy knowing Samsung is on top of things in this department.

It seems like almost every possible facet of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus has already been leaked out – and we’ve still got 3 weeks till the alleged announcement date. In the latest leak of Samsung‘s newest flagship devices, photos of what are allegedly the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus have surfaced showing a few more front on photos, some showing what the boot screen on each of the devices are going to look like. Check out the photos of the Galaxy Note 5:

And here are the photos of the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus:

There’s actually not much new to see in these photos besides the boot screens, and we’re quietly suspicious just in case the boot screens are fake, though they do look pretty legitimate. August 12th or 13th appears to be the rumoured date that these two devices are going to be announced so we’ll have to wait and see what Samsung has in store for us – or just wait another day when inevitably more information is leaked.

What do you think about the boot screens of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Leaked images show the boot screens of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge plus

Note-5-Welcome

If you’ve been sat there wondering why there hasn’t been a new leak about Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus handsets today, wonder no further. Here we have some leaked images that are allegedly of the two smartphones. Join us after the break for more details.

Let’s deal with the images of the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus first, and here we get to see that it is indeed just a bigger version of the Galaxy S6 Edge. The first two images show the dual edged display while the third image shows the About Device section in Settings. The device has model number SM-G928A and is running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with build number G928AUCU1A0GB.

On to the alleged Galaxy Note 5, and there’s just a shot of its boot screen, along with another with the display turned off. If you look closely, it seems that the device has had a screen protector installed, which is particularly visible on the main image above. The third picture shows the initial set-up screen, along with the Power Off and Restart options because the Power button has been held in.

It’s always possible that the images have been doctored, but there isn’t anything shown that we wouldn’t expect to see. It would have been nice if we could have seen the sides of the Galaxy Note 5, if only to settle the issue of whether it does or doesn’t have a MicroSD card slot once and for all. According to the rumours, we have around 3 weeks to go until both the Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus are announced. Who knows what else will leak in the meantime.

Finally, here’s a question for you. Are you interested in the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus at all? Or do you just read about it because it’s usually included in the Galaxy Note 5 leaks? Let us know in the comments if you will.

T-Mobile launches the Galaxy Grand Prime in the US

samsung_galaxy_grand_prime_ve_black

T-Mobile, fashionably late as usual, has finally launched Samsung’s latest budget-friendly smartphone, the Galaxy Grand Prime, in the United States. This release comes three months after the handset made its debut in the region through Cricket Wireless.

Sure, the Galaxy Grand Prime is no powerhouse, but it does pack some pretty solid specifications, including a 5-inch display with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, 1.5GB of RAM and a 2,6000 mAh battery.

It also ships running the latest build of Android 5.1 Lollipop straight out of the box, skinned with Samsung’s TouchWiz custom user interface.

As for its availability? Well, the Grand Prime is up for grabs today on T-Mobile’s online portal or from any of its bricks-and-mortar stores nationwide for $190 on a prepaid tariff.

LG Display will invest KRW1.05 trillion in a new factory to mass produce flexible OLED’s

LG_G_Flex_2_Official_34

Earlier today, LG Display announced that it intends to invest KRW1.05 trillion ($905 million) over a two-year period to establish a factory in South Korea that will be used to develop and produce the sixth generation of flexible plastic OLED’s.

As it stands, LG and Samsung are currently the only two companies able to manufacture flexible displays, but it appears that the former would like to overtake its competition by using the new facility to develop both foldable and large-size auto displays for smartphones, automobiles and wearables.

The new manufacturing complex is expected to commence mass production from the second quarter of 2017.

Samsung may have pulled 128GB Galaxy S6 / Edge in India

Samsung-128-Galaxy-S6-S6-Edge-pulled-India

Samsung has reportedly pulled the 128GB Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge models from sale in India, leaving customers with 32GB or 64GB as the available storage options. This is similar to the storage options available in Japan – where the 128GB model was not offered – and at launch in Korea, where Samsung didn’t offer the larger options.

According to the company’s Indian website, both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are no longer being offered with the biggest storage option but at present, the company’s other online stores – in the UK, Canada and Singapore – all still list the larger storage option. It’s unknown whether these markets will also see the 128GB models pulled from sale but with the 32GB options less widely available in the UK at least, it seems unlikely that the UK will follow suit (although others may yet do so).

The decision to pull the larger storage options from India is certainly interesting as the key feature that neither handset offers is expandable storage, meaning users are limited to the internal storage. One possible reason that Samsung pulled the storage options from sale may be poor sales as the handsets were higher priced than all the competition: the 128GB Galaxy S6 cost Rs. 61,900 (approx $970) while the curved variant was even higher priced at Rs. 70,900 ($1110).

Another possible reason for pulling the handsets could be that Samsung needs the larger storage for its upcoming Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus handsets that are expected to launch on August 13 next month. Samsung uses the much-faster UFS internal storage standard in its handsets and if the Korean manufacturer does pull the storage option from sale in more markets, it may be because the company wants the components for the upcoming handsets.

All of this is a bit of speculation as to why Samsung decided to pull the storage options from sale but at present, it looks like it may be limited to just India (although the handsets are highly priced in other countries also). Apple already took 75 percent of the smartwatch market

The official numbers for Apple Watch sales are still a mystery. But, according to a report by research firm Strategy Analytics, the Cupertino company shipped an estimated 4 million units during the second quarter of 2015. As a result, Apple’s already captured 75 percent of the smartwatch marketshare across the world, despite only being available since late April. Strategy Analytics also points out that, thanks mostly to the Watch, global smartwatch shipments saw a remarkable 457 percent growth year-over-year. Meanwhile, Samsung was the big loser in Q2 2015, as it fell to second place and is said to have shipped a mere 0.4 million devices during that timeframe.

While Apple hasn’t been clear-cut about how its Watch business is doing, Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri did reveal yesterday that the product was responsible for around a billion dollars in quarterly sales. A billion dollars doesn’t sound half-bad, sure, but wouldn’t it be much better if Apple just told us how many wrist wearables it has sold so far?

Senator Lindsey Graham takes a meat cleaver to his flip-phone

lindsey_graham

Billionaire and presidential candidate Donald Trump has begun to heat things up for his opponent Senator Lindsey Graham. At a campaign stop in South Carolina, Trump gave out Graham’s private cell phone number to the public, rendering it useless.

What is one to do with a cell phone that continues to get called by numbers across the country, haunted with strange voicemails and text messages? Well, with the help of the IJReview, Graham has a few ideas, which involve golf clubs, blenders, fire, and more.

Click here to view the embedded video.

And that’s how you put your trusty flip-phone to rest. Surprisingly, Graham has acted calm about this ordeal, and now he is trying to decide which smartphone to get next.

One thing’s for sure: he won’t be giving his private cell number to too many people, and especially the Donald.
