Samsung has started pushing notification ads like HTC has
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Seeing ads in free apps is usually a minor inconvenience, something which can be resolved usually by buying the premium version. But what happens when you start getting ads on your smartphone which you’ve paid for? That’s the behaviour that was observed a few weeks ago on some HTC devices who started receiving push notification ads, and it appears that Samsung has joined this club as Samsung has started pushing notification ads to its latest flagship devices. As the images below show, there are an assortment of ads being pushed by Samsung’s packaged apps like the Peel Smart Remote and Samsung Push Service:
At worst, these push notification ads are annoying, but the fact that Samsung is doing this can’t be pleasing to many of its loyal consumers. Of course, Samsung is likely just supplying the tools for advertisers to make use of their apps, like the Land Rover sponsored ad, but advertising their new devices on an older device just seems a little desperate.
What do you think about Samsung making use of push notification ads? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Samsung’s flagship test drive has gone way better than expected
Yesterday Samsung began a new service to test drive one of its newest flagships for only $1 so long as you live in the U.S. and have an iPhone under contract. Today we are getting a report from Samsung that apparently the test drive went so well, the company is already out of test units.
I’m sure this is just what the company wanted to see. Samsung says the service was more popular than it examined and has promised to add more units to the service shortly. In case you have forgotten here is how the service works:
iPhone users living in the United States can get a brand new Samsung flagship smartphone of their choice for only $1 for 30 days. The smartphone will include a pre-installed sim card for testing purposes. After the 30 day trial ends, users will be given 5 days to return the handset if they don’t like it. If they decide to keep the smartphone, Samsung will send owners a manual containing information on how to easily transfer files from your iPhone to your new Samsung smartphone for easier convenience. As long as the condition of the smartphone is kept to a minimum, users won’t be charged anything additional when handing it back.
Apple seemed to have gained a lot of Android users when switching over to the larger screened iPhones this year and Samsung believes it can win Apple users back over with their new service. If you’re looking to get a test drive, Samsung says the best thing you can do right now is keep checking the page, which can be seen at the source link. From what we have heard so far, the service almost seems to good to be true.

Best Galaxy S6 Edge+ cases

With all of the hype surrounding Samsung’s brand new Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+, the day has finally come. T-Mobile and Verizon both began sales a tad early, but everyone else, both of the new handset are now available for purchase from all four major U.S. carriers!
Both the Note 5 and S6 Edge+ come with beautiful displays covered in Gorilla Glass 4, an all-glass back plate as well as an aluminum edge that surrounds each device. But Samsung’s decision to forgo a plastic build in favor of a glass and metal chassis unfortunately doesn’t come without its caveats. These phones are fragile, fingerprint magnets and can get scratched very easily. Thankfully, quite a few popular accessory makers have already launched some pretty nice cases, so today we’re rounding up some of the best you can buy.
We’ve already rounded up the best Galaxy Note 5 cases you can buy, and now it’s time for the S6 Edge+ to get the same treatment.

Spigen Slim Armor Case for Galaxy S6 Edge+

Spigen’s Slim Armor case has a dual-layered design made of hard polycarbonate and flexible TPU. Not only will this design protect your phone from drops and scuffs, it also has an integrated kickstand which will make consuming media even more enjoyable. In many ways this case will perform similarly to the Neo (listed below) but bears a different overall look and feel that is further complemented by the built-in kickstand.
The Slim Armor starts at just $13.99 for the gunmetal option and sells for $18.99 for any of the other color options.
Spigen Resilient Case for Galaxy S6 Edge+

One of the least expensive cases on our list, the Spigen Resilient case is designed with both protection and usability in mind. It’s made of a single layer of TPU to ensure an exact fit, and also features glossy accents and carbon fiber textures to help it stand out from the crowd. Overall, it’s a simple, inexpensive case that might just be worth your hard earned cash.

Ringke Fusion Case for Galaxy S6 Edge+

If you want your smartphone’s aesthetic to shine through, Ringke’s Fusion case might be the case for you. This case is being offered in a Crystal (clear) color option for $11.99 and Smoke Black for $12.99.
Ringke Slim Case for Galaxy S6 Edge+

Who says a good case has to set you back a lot of money? The Ringke Slim case offers 4-side corner-to-corner protection, has a tapered lip and lifted camera area to protect the sensor and screen, and is designed to fit snuggly without adding a bunch of weight. While not nearly as attractive as the bare naked look of the Galaxy S6 Edge+, it isn’t a bad looking case and does come in a variety of different colors including Crystal, Black and Royal Gold.
The best part about the Ringke Slim case is it is extremely affordable. Depending on the color, you’ll pay anywhere from $9.99 to $10.99. To make a good deal even better, Ringke includes a complimentary screen protector as well. Not a bad investment, we’d say.
OtterBox Symmetry Case Series

OtterBox cases consistently provide top of the line protection for smartphones, and the Symmetry Series case is no different. Even though it may not be as protective as the company’s Defender series, this case will provide protection against drops and falls, while also staying slim and easy to handle.
It’s being offered in five different color options and will run you $49.95. That may seem like a lot, but trust us – OtterBox cases are some of the best quality accessories you can purchase for your new device.
Spigen Neo Hybrid Case for Galaxy S6 Edge+

A best case list wouldn’t be complete without at least a few entries dealing with Spigen. There is a good reason why Spigen is a popular choice, not only are its cases quite durable, they are also not too pricey. The Neo Hybrid series is a two-piece case that is comprised of a shock-absorbing TPU case and a polycarbonate bumper. The case also has metalized buttons that give the volume and rockers a great click to them.
You can grab this case from Amazon starting at just $16.99 for the gold or gunmetal choices. You’ll need to pony up $20.99 for the dante red, metal slate, blue topaz, or satin silver options.
Note: These cases will be in stock on August 25th.
Verus High Pro Shield Case for Galaxy S6 Edge+

Verus is a brand that might not be the most well known in the case industry, but the company is no stranger to producing low cost, high quality accessories for your smartphone. The High Pro Shield case is no exception, as it aims to combine form and functionality to keep your device protected. The case covers all four corners and includes raised edges and a TPU lip to keep the screen from scratching or touching the ground, and also features precise cutouts to give you full access to ports. What’s more, it’s built from high-grade TPU and polycarbonate and features a soft, rubbery inside layer for the best protection available.
This case is being offered in Crimson Red, Electric Blue, Satin Silver, Shine Gold and Steel Silver color options for just $16.99.
Verus Wallet Case for Galaxy S6 Edge+

The Verus Wallet case is an attractive folio wallet case made of synthetic leather that covers all four corners and includes raised edges to keep the screen from scratching or touching the ground. You also, obviously, have storage for cards and cash with this particular choice.
The Verus Wallet case is available in Black, Coffee Brown and Wine Red color options for just $19.99.
TUDIA Ultra Slim Bumper Case for Galaxy S6 Edge+

Looking for an inexpensive, simple case to protect your new smartphone from scuffs and short drops? You might want to try out TUDIA’s Ultra Slim Bumper case for the S6 Edge+. It’s made of a high quality thermoplastic polyurethane TPU material and features a soft touch feel for some added grip. It’s extremely durable, and provides a unique design with easy access to all buttons, controls and ports without having to remove the case. The front of this case is also raised slightly, which allows you to set the phone down on its screen without worrying that it will get scratched.
This case is available in Blue, Black, Gray and Purple color options for only $7.99.
Verus Crystal Bumper Case for Galaxy S6 Edge+

If you’re not a fan of Verus’ High Pro Shield case (listed above), you might want to try the company’s Crystal Bumper case for your new S6 Edge+. Just like the listing above, this case provides protection for all four corners and includes raised edges and a TPU lip to keep the screen from scratching or touching the ground. This case, on the other hand, lets your phone’s design shine through, which is definitely a nice touch.
The Verus Crystal Bumper case is available in Hot Pink, Mint, Satin Silver, Shine Gold and Steel Silver color options for just $16.99.
Samsung also offers a handful of official accessories for the S6 Edge+ that can be found on the company’s official website. You’ll find some cases of the leather and plastic variety, and even that weird keyboard case Samsung announced alongside both of the new devices.

Verizon is still ‘evaluating’ support for Samsung Pay
We hope you weren’t planning to use your Verizon-badged Galaxy S6 or Note 5 with Samsung Pay on September 28th… you might be disappointed. Big Red notes that it’s still in the “process of evaluating” Samsung Pay while AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular have already pledged support. This doesn’t rule out Verizon offering Samsung Pay on launch, but we wouldn’t count on it given how carrier approval processes are seldom swift — just ask anyone who waited months for a Verizon-ready Nexus 6.
It’s worth noting that Verizon is unusually non-committal given its recent history with mobile payments. Remember, the network was quick to promise Android Pay support despite distant availability (around when Android Marshmallow is ready) and uncertain phone compatibility. This doesn’t mean that Verizon is throwing all its weight behind one provider, but that reluctance is hard to ignore. It won’t be surprising if the company eventually says no, for that matter. Verizon has rarely been a fan of Android payment systems that are dependent on proprietary hardware, as Google Wallet fans can attest. Samsung may have to bend over backwards to convince Verizon that its device-specific tech merits an exception to this rule.

The Samsung Ultimate Test Drive has already run out of qualifying devices
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Yesterday, we covered the story of the Samsung Ultimate Test Drive program which Samsung has started to try and get iPhone users to use Android devices instead. In essence, the program allowed iPhone users the opportunity to try one of Samsung’s latest flagship devices for 30 days with no strings attached and offered to give users who converted some bonuses. Well, it sounded like a pretty good deal, a deal good enough for Samsung to run out of qualifying devices for the program. Now when you visit the splash page for the Samsung Ultimate Test Drive, you’ll be greeted with the following message:
“Thank you for your interest. Due to the overwhelming demand, we are temporarily out of test drive phones. Please keep checking back for available phones.”
It’s impossible to tell exactly how many devices Samsung had set aside for the program, but it’s obvious that there are more iPhone users on the fence than Samsung may have originally expected. That’s definitely a good thing given the point of the whole exercise, but we’ll have to see if the Test Drive actually pulls in any new users once the 30 days are up.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Active with 4,100mAh battery could be on the cards
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
It’s not an unfamiliar sight to see a Samsung Galaxy S device ruggedized into an Active device, however the treatment has been absent from the Galaxy Note family of devices over the years. That might be able to change, however, as rumours of an Active version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 have started to circulate. A device that would presumably be called the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Active would also feature a 4,100mAh battery, a huge boost over the middling 3,000mAh battery that comes in the Note 5 vanilla.
The report continues, saying that the Note 5 Active would have IP68 certification and will be released on November 8th, though no information about pricing or availability has been suggested. If we had to guess what hardware the Note 5 Active would have, we’d assume it would be the same hardware as the Note 5 – the Galaxy S6 Active was a big surprise as it was literally a beefier version of the standard Galaxy S6, something of a change from previous years, and we’d assume a Note 5 Active would get the same treatment.

Samsung’s newest devices to get Android Marshmallow in early 2016
Samsung releases more devices than any other Android Manufacturer we know. With that said, the company has an extremely hard time keeping up with system updates. A new report states that Samsung’s recent flagships will get Android Marshmallow beginning early 2016.
Android Marshmallow will bring many needed improvements to Android devices. Some of the major ones include improvements in battery consumption, memory usage tracking, power saving, auto backup and app permissions. If you recently bought a Samsung smartphone or tablet, you might be wondering when you’ll be getting Google’s new Android 6.0 update. Samsung says it will be updating its higher end smartphones and tablets first and focus on its mid-range devices a little bit later. Remember that when Samsung pushes out the update, it still must pass through the carriers which can take some additional time pending your carrier. YouMobile states these will be the company’s first devices to receive the Android 6.0 update:
- Samsung Galaxy Note 5
- Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+
- Samsung Galaxy S6
- Samsung Galaxy S6 Duos
- Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge
- Samsung Galaxy Note 4
- Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Duos
- Samsung Galaxy Note Edge
- Samsung Galaxy ALPHA
- Samsung Galaxy Tab A
If you’re not on the list, that doesn’t mean you won’t be getting Android 6.0. You’ll just have to wait a little bit longer.

Best Galaxy Note 5 cases

Today is the big day. While T-Mobile and Verizon began sales a bit early, for the rest of the carriers, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ have officially arrived! We’re sure you have heard a lot about Samsung’s latest big-screen flagship duo, which take on the same premium aesthetics found on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The design may be gorgeous, but, unfortunately, that doesn’t mean it is impervious to wear, tear, drops, and bruises. Thankfully, that’s where a good case can come into play.

For those looking for a little extra protection for their brand new Galaxy Note 5, we’ve gathered up some of the best cases you can buy and put them all in one post.
Note 5 clear view case

For those that prefer official accessories, you might want to turn your attention to the Note 5 Clear S-View case. This case is designed to protect your device while also providing a beautiful look to the rear in your choice of silver, gold, or black. Not only will you get protection on the rear, but the front will also be covered. At the same time, the clear design up front means you’ll be able to see and interact with upcoming notifications and calls, all without ever needing to take off the front cover.
As you’d expect, being an official accessory does mean that the cover does come at a bit of a premium. The clear S-View cover will set you back $59.99, and while you can pre-order it now, it won’t actually ship until August 31st.
Note 5 Mophie battery case
One of the downsides to the new Note 5 design is that you can no longer remove a dead battery, swap in a replacement, and keep on chugging along. That’s where a case like this could really come in handy. The Mophie case not only protects your device from bruises and bumps, it also includes an integrated battery! While the Mophie case hasn’t officially arrived, it is expected to debut on its store in the near future.
Exact battery size is unknown, though the Galaxy S6 version of the case packs a 3000 mAh added battery, so we’d expect at least that big. As for pricing? We’d expect it to set you back around $99.
Kate Spade Note 5 case

This sleek looking case is from Kate Spade New York and features an attractive design crafted for saffiano leather that not only protects your phone, it actually adds to the aesthetics and helps your phone stand out from a crowd. For those looking for a designer quality case, this could certainly be worthy of your consideration.
On the other hand, it is also one of the more expensive cases out there at $55.99, putting it in similar pricing territory to Samsung’s own official case.
Ringke SLIM case for Galaxy Note 5

Who says a good case has to set you back a lot of money? The Ringke Slim case offers 4-side corner-to-corner protection, has a tapered lip and lifted camera area to protect the sensor and screen, and is designed to fit snuggly without adding a bunch of weight. While not nearly as attractive as the bare naked look of the Galaxy Note 5, it isn’t a bad looking case and does come in a variety of different colors including crystal, mint, white, gold, and black.
The best part about the Ringke Slim case is it is extremely affordable. Depending on the color, you’ll pay anywhere from $8.99 to $13.99. To make a good deal even better, Ringke includes a complimentary screen protector as well. Not a bad investment, we’d say.
Verus Verge Case for Samsung Galaxy Note 5

The Verus Verge Case for the Galaxy Note 5 is almost identical to the version previously seen for the Edge+. It is a tough, slim fitting case that consists of a hard shell frame with a soft rugged inner shell to provide extra durability from drops and scratches. The two-piece design is very durable, all without adding too much extra bulk.
The Verus Verge Case in five different colors: titanium silver, gold, red, blue, and satin silver. Pricing is $16.99, regardless of your choice of color.
Spigen Neo Hybrid for Note 5

OtterBox Defender series

One of the biggest and best brands in the case industry is OtterBox. At the top of this line, you’ll find the Defender series, which provides three layers of protection that protects your device from drops and scrapes in a way few other cases can compete with. With the Defender you get a polycarbonate inner shell with an internal foam padding, a synthetic rubber outer slipcover, and even a built-in screen protector up front. Port plugs also help protect your device from dust and debris, making it a job option for construction and other heavy duty scenarios.
The Defender also lets you customize the shell color, as well as the slipcover, creating a combo that will further help your phone stand out. Ond the downside, OtterBox cases tend to be on the pricey side, with this case setting you back $69.90.
Spigen Slim Armor for Note 5

A bit higher up the price ladder from the Neo Hybrid, the Slim Armor also has a dual-layered design made of hard polycarbonate and flexible TPU. Not only will this design protect your phone from drops and scuffs, it also has an integrated kickstand which will make consuming media even more enjoyable. In many ways this case will perform similarly to the Neo but bears a different overall look and feel that is further complemented by the built-in kickstand.
The Slim Armor starts at just $13.99 for the gunmetal option, which is actually a bit cheaper than the Neo Hybrid. For the rest, however, you’ll pay either $18.99 or $24.99, depending on your color choice.
i-Blason Prime Series for Galaxy Note 5

The i-Blason Prime is a tough case with an attractive design that is designed with shock absorption and abrasion resistance in mind. There are two parts here, the silicone case and a hard shell layer that clips onto it to offer added protection and durability while not adding too much in the way of bulk.
For those that enjoy ‘extras’, outside of simply having a solid case, the Prime also includes an integrated kickstand. Not bad considering the price tag is only $9.99 for red and blue, or $11.95 for black.
Spigen Wallet case

Last but not least, the Spigen Wallet case is an attractive folio wallet case made of synthetic leather and a hard polycarbonate inner-housing. For those that want something elegant without the hard plastic feel, this is certainly an option worthy of your consideration. You also, obviously, have storage for cards and cash with this particular choice. Even better, the case can be converted into kickstand mode for better media consumption, and the leather wallet design provides front and back protection.
The Spigen Wallet case is available only in black at a price of $18.99.
from their website. That’s just ten of the better cases out there for the Note 5, and in no way represents them all. In fact, Samsung has a number of additional 1st party cases which can be reviewed directly from their website. How did you like our list? Did we miss anything?
