New images show Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, and a glimpse of a familiar TouchWiz
Samsung did a slightly better job keeping the Galaxy S6 under wraps, but just like HTC, the Korean giant is now seeing its surprise ruined by revealing last-minute leaks.
Yesterday, an XDA user began posting images of what seems to be the Galaxy S6 – the device in the images features a metallic frame, a glass back, and the same camera and flash modules we’ve seen in numerous leaks so far.
Now the same source provided two images that show the Galaxy S6 and its curved screen variant, the Galaxy S6 Edge, side by side.

From these shots alone, it seems that the two edges of the Galaxy S6 won’t be as pronounced as that on the Note Edge. The primary role of the curved sides seems to be to offer a unique design twist, rather than to add functionality like on the Note Edge. Notice how there is no side panel like on the Note Edge, though Samsung may take advantage of the sides in other ways.

The images also give us a brief glimpse at the user interface of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. It looks like Samsung opted to keep the familiar aesthetic of TouchWiz, at least when it comes to the home screen. It remains to be seen if there are more significant changes in other areas of the UI. Samsung reportedly drastically cut down the number of pre-loaded apps on the new Galaxy S6, and worked to speed up and optimize TouchWiz.
Unless the XDA leaker puts out a more detailed look at the new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, we may have to wait until Sunday for more details. We’ll keep an eye on the thread, but meanwhile, tell us what you think of these shots.
New leaked images show off the Samsung Galaxy S6 in full (Update: more images!)

Update 1: The XDA user has posted one more photo of the handset on the thread which looks to be a clearer shot of the center image (shown above). The new image is attached below the original post.
Update 2: The user has posted more pictures, this time of the full device outside of the bubble wrap. They’re much more clear than the original photos posted, and the user also mentions that the battery cannot be removed (which lines up with previous rumors). The five new images can be found at the bottom of this post.
Original post: As the launch date for the Galaxy S6 is getting closer, we’re hearing more and more rumors about Samsung’s next big handset. We’ve heard a ton of rumors regarding the Galaxy S6’s build quality, and that it will likely feature much more premium materials than we’ve seen from Samsung devices in the past. Today we get another leak of the handset, and it’s quite a detailed one. A user posted pictures on XDA of what’s purported to be the Galaxy S6. While the majority of the phone is wrapped in bubble wrap, we can still see that these are the clearest photos of the handset so far.
The back of the device doesn’t show anything out of the ordinary. We’re seeing a camera module with a flash towards the top of the device, and that’s about all we can make out for that image. The side of the device is also shown off, revealing the metallic edging that wraps around the device. The last image, also covered by bubble wrap, shows off the front of the handset. Again, there’s not too much out of the ordinary with this one either – a home button, a front-facing camera and a big screen – all placed in their normal spots. The home button does appear to be a tad bigger than previous versions, but that’s about the only notable change we can see from the leak so far. Now, we can’t say for sure that these are images of the S6. There’s a good chance that the photos could be of another Samsung handset or a knockoff of some kind. But given the rumors we’ve heard in the past, most of the details seem to match up.
Judging from the leaked images and all of the other leaks we’ve heard up to this point, this is turning out to be one attractive device. What are your thoughts on the new leaked images?

Samsung pokes some fun at Galaxy S6 rumors

We are fast approaching launch day for the Galaxy S6, which is an especially important event this year, as the company intends to turn last year’s misfortune around. But the pressure hasn’t stopped Samsung’s marketing team from having a little fun with some of the rumors and hype built up over the past few months, which have produced some rather odd looking results.
As with all major product launches, there have been plenty of rumors circulating about what Samsung may or may not have planned for its next smartphone. Some have been reasonable and others a little more bizarre, but both can have pretty humorous results if taken a little too literally.

I actually think that the speakers look pretty awesome, what do you think?
Report: New Galaxy S6 handsets to see price hike, S6 Edge will suffer from supply constraints

With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge right around the corner, the rumor mill is really beginning to pick up speed. We’ve heard everything from the S6 sporting Sony’s IMX240 camera sensor, multiple forms of wireless charging compatibility, and we even have a purported released date for the handset. Adding two more to the list, a few new rumors are surfacing from Ars Technica about the cost of the devices, along with possible supply constraints.
According to one of Ars’ sources from a European mobile carrier, the Galaxy S6 Edge will be constrained by supply due to manufacturing problems with the curved display. Now, this doesn’t seem like a big surprise since this is the company’s first mass market foray into the curved screen world. The Galaxy Note Edge was the company’s first device with a curved screen, but Samsung told us at launch that it was almost a “proof of concept” and that they weren’t planning on making as many units as the Note 4. With that said, the majority of the leaks and teasers we’ve seen so far are centered around the S6 Edge, so it seems as though Samsung is pushing the new Edge device just as much as the S6. In fact, the source also claims that around one third of S6 devices shipped by the company have a curved screen, so this may be a big problem for Sammy if they plan on selling a ton of these handsets.
If this next rumor is true, though, it will be hard for many people to afford the new S6 handsets. For the non-curved Galaxy S6, the source claims that the handset will be sold for €749 ($849), €849 ($963), and €949 ($1,076) for the 32GB, 64GB and 128GB versions. The curved version will run at a $100 premium for each price point, adding up to €849 ($963), €949 ($1,076), and €1,049 ($1,189) for the 32GB, 64GB and 128GB variants respectively. These are the prices that the carriers will have to pay for the devices before subsidies come into play, but the report claims that the unlocked devices will be priced similarly. For comparison, the unlocked Galaxy S5 launched for €650 ($650) last year.
It has been long-rumored that Samsung will utilize premium materials in the construction of the Galaxy S6, so we really can’t say we are too surprised if a price increase does occur. Of course, we really can’t say how much of a premium the GS6 will command over past-gen Galaxy S devices until word officially arrives from Samsung.
What are your thoughts on the rumored price increase? If the S6/S6 Edge is everything it’s cracked up to be, would you pay over $1,000 for a handset?
AT&T jumps in line with Galaxy S6 image, same as before just with a blue glow
March 1st is 6 days away. One could technically argue 5 days with the time difference over there compared to the states. Regardless of how you choose to do the math, the fact is that on March 1st Samsung will be making the Galaxy S6 known. Late last night we saw a promo image from […]

Carriers reportedly love the Galaxy S6, but that doesn’t mean much

Samsung is teasing the Galaxy S6 furiously, with the latest glimpse of the device’s Edge variant finding its way to T-Mobile’s website just a few hours ago. But a good pre-release campaign can also include controlled leaks, bits of info that manufacturers “anonymously” slip to the media to build up hype. We’re not saying that this latest report from Korea Herald is the result of a controlled leak, but its timing is awfully convenient.
“Better than Apple’s iPhone 6 in terms of design”
According to the report, carriers’ officials were smitten by the new Galaxy S6, and especially the Galaxy S6 Edge, which they said was “better than Apple’s iPhone 6 in terms of design.” The info reportedly comes from a source close to the matter, who said Samsung showed its new flagships to representatives of carriers including T-Mobile, Sprint, Vodafone, and Korea’s SK Telecom.
“Some executives said the new phones were the best of the best among Samsung-made phones,” continued the source.
But, as an analyst cited by Korea Herald notes, praise from carriers doesn’t guarantee that users will feel the same. To reverse its slide, Samsung needs to nail the design, but also the functionality, software, and optimization of the Galaxy S6.
Furthermore, Samsung should probably not put that much weight into its partners’ words. After all, the carriers’ inaccurate demand predictions caused Samsung to manufacture 20 percent more units than for the Galaxy S4. Samsung ended up selling 40 percent fewer Galaxy S5 units than it anticipated.
To be clear, all signs suggest the Galaxy S6 will be a major upgrade over its predecessor. A new design, premium materials, innovative functions, and optimized software should turn the Galaxy S6 into the powerhouse that Samsung needs to fight Apple at the top end. It’s just that we all need to practice a little caution when dealing with some of the info floating around.
Do you think Samsung has nailed the design of the Galaxy S6 from what we’ve seen so far?
John Legere announces the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 and gives us a good look at a curved edge
In a tweet earlier today, T-Mobile CEO, John Legere, announced that they would definitely be carrying a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 following Samsung‘s press conference on March 1st. Furthermore, linking to a T-Mobile sign up page, we get a good look at what can only be the curved edge of the Galaxy Edge (or Galaxy S6 […]

This is the best Samsung Galaxy S6 photo leak yet, thanks T-Mobile

What do we have here? Yes, that is what appears to be the best teaser photo of the Samsung Galaxy S6 we’ve seen yet, as found on the T-Mobile website.
The page itself on the T-Mobile site offers little more than the image, embellished by the cheeky words “Six Appeal,” and a note to check back on March 1st. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Samsung will be officially announcing their latest flagship device next week, and that U.S. consumers will be able to at least pre-register, if not pre-order, from T-Mobile without delay after the announcement.

I don’t suppose I need to cover our expectations of Samsung’s expected new flagship device – you’ve probably already read our full Samsung Galaxy S6 rumor roundup, which was most recently updated just this past week.
I will say, the device we are seeing in the T-Mobile image, appears to be the Edge variant of the device. With the curved sides of the display that wrap around just a little way. There is a touch of class borrowed from the Galaxy Note 4 here as well. Just look at that backing, that appears to be metal, and the shiny chromed metal looking ring garnishing the glass of the display, looks like metal to me.
Head on over to the T-Mobile page to see the image in it’s full glory.
What do you say, does this one new image change any of your opinions or expectations for the Samsung Galaxy S6?
Here are the first brief glimpses of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge
Samsung is kicking the hype machine into overdrive for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Following the video teaser from yesterday, a longer clip that Samsung just published today shows us the first brief glimpses at the long anticipated devices.
Like the teaser from yesterday, this new video is all about curves, metal, and glass. The metal frame of S6 is briefly shown, and there’s a lot of imagery of glass and other silky smooth materials. The curved metal frame of the Galaxy S6 Edge can also be spotted, and the entire device can be seen, vaguely, around the 0:23 mark.
The silhouette of the Galaxy S6 seen at 0:37 seems to match the many renders, product schematics, and case leaks from the past couple of weeks.

Samsung Galaxy S6 will reportedly feature Sony’s IMX240 camera sensor

Just like every year, we hear a ton of different rumors regarding Samsung’s next big flagship phone leading up to its announcement. According to a new rumor that’s not so surprising, Samsung will reportedly use Sony’s IMX240 camera sensor in the upcoming Galaxy S6. As reported by SamMobile, the Galaxy S6 will also tote a 16MP rear-facing camera, not the 20MP camera that was previously rumored.
So, why is Samsung’s decision to use a Sony sensor not surprising? First of all, if you can recall back to last October, an iFixit teardown of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 handset revealed that the company used the same Sony IMX240 camera sensor in the phablet. So, this isn’t the first time the company moved away from their in-house built camera tech.
Samsung hasn’t exactly been quiet about their journey into ISOCELL camera technology, which they used in the Galaxy S5. A big drawback to using ISOCELL tech in the camera is the omission of optical image stabilization (OIS). Instead, ISOCELL uses a software-based alternative called Picture Stabilization. Even though we praised the S5’s camera in our full review, the lack of OIS support may be the reason why they’re going with Sony this time around.
Perhaps the company is working to better their own camera tech before they put it in another flagship device. And for now, that may not be a bad thing. The Note 4’s camera, which used the IMX240 sensor, was one of our favorite cameras on a smartphone that released last year.
What do you think of the rumor? Are you glad to see a return to Sony’s cams or would you prefer Samsung to have stuck with ISOCELL?
