Could this be the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini?

samsung-SM-G9198-gfxbench

Today mystery Samsung device SM-G9198 passed through GFXBench, touting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset, a less beefier chipset than the Snapdragon 810, but certainly more efficient.

It’s also featuring a 4.6-inch 1280 x 768 display, the hexa-core processor at 1.8GHz, an Adreno 418 GPU, and 2GB of RAM. It has 16GB of internal storage, though only 11GB for the user, as the OS takes a little over five of it. Finally, it has a 16-megapixel shooter on the rear, a 5-megapixel solution on the front, and the latest version of Android, 5.1.1.

While there’s no official confirmation, to me it looks like we’re going to be seeing a Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini down the line soon. Of course, it could be another mid-range Samsung device, but the timing is certainly something to question. Not to mention that all of Samsung’s past Mini’s show a pretty hefty spec drop like GFXBench is showing us.

What do you think this mystery device could be?

Galaxy S6 to gain better manual exposure control in Android 5.1 update

samsung galaxy s6 vs iphone 6 6

Whether you’re an Apple fan or a Samsung fan, one thing is certain – the iPhone has offered one of the best camera experiences on a smartphone for quite some time now. Though, just recently, that may have changed for some users after the launch of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Samsung’s two newest flagships not only brought a much-improved camera experience over their predecessor, but they were arguably the first Android phones to give the current iPhone offering a run for its money. To make the experience even better, Samsung is supposedly bringing a handy feature to the Galaxy S6’s camera that has only been implemented on iPhone cameras so far.

Read more: Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge camera shootout

Just about every smartphone camera out there has an option to adjust exposure, but on Apple devices, users have the ability to manually adjust the exposure at the point of focus in the viewfinder. For instance, when there is an abundance of light behind the subject of the photo, using the stock camera on the iPhone will let you increase or decrease the exposure amount by simply dragging your finger up or down on the subject. According to SamMobile, this easier method of adjusting exposure is making its way to the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in the update to Android 5.1 Lollipop. The publication has been testing out an early build of the software for a little while now, and they have confirmed that the feature is in fact present in the 5.1 update.

Along with an easier way to control exposure, both Samsung devices should also receive support for RAW image capture and shutter speed control in the update to Android 5.1. The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are expected to receive the update sometime in June, so users don’t have much longer to wait.

Iron Man Galaxy S6 Edge to launch next week

Samsung is doing their part to keep the Iron Man edition of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge in front of people. The Marvel themed red and gold variant of the device made another appearance on Samsung Mobile Korea’s Facebook page with a simple “coming next week” attached to it. It appears that there is an Iron Man helmet logo on the back of the device too. Something I didn’t know they would be incorporating as it wasn’t present on the first round of images that placed a Marvel logo on the back.

Iron Man Galaxy S6

This does still leave a lot of questions though, like where will it be available. We can assume Korea wills see the device, but will the U.S.? If we do see it over here will it be a carrier exclusive, like Verizon, or will it only be available directly from Samsung? I guess we will have to wait another week and see what they smartphone giant has to say when they officially release the Avengers partnered device.

AA asks: What’s the best flagship of 2015 so far? Best smartphone for the money?

lg g4 vs samsung galaxy s6 edge quick look aa (5 of 14)

2015 isn’t even half way through yet and already we’ve had one hell of a year. For flagship buyers, this year has seen Samsung up its game in a big way with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, with the LG G4 giving power users a great option that (almost) has it all with few compromises other than not necessarily having the latest and greatest CPU. We’ve also seen flagship devices from HTC, Huawei, and a (so far) Japanese only launch of Sony’s Xperia Z4 flagship.

Some of the recurring themes for 2015’s flagships seems to be premium design, optimized software, and less gimmicky extras. It’s a path we are happy to see, as manufacturers are starting to realize that the overall user experience and the looks of the phone matter more to most consumers than just the spec sheet or feature list.

ASUS Zenfone 2-13

Of course, flagship is only one side of the coin. The budget world has also seen some pretty big changes in 2015. While last year saw Motorola and OnePlus lead the pack when it comes to “specs and performance for the money”, this year there are more OEMs pushing into this space with hopes of turning the entry and mid-level markets on their heads. Although Huawei’s attempt at a budget friendly yet powerful device appears to have been less successful, at least judging by our full review, Alcatel OneTouch and Asus have really raised the bar in 2015.

Read also: Best budget phones of 2015

Both the Asus ZenFone 2 and the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 give us near flagship level performance and aesthetics while keeping the price tag under $300, both also have even lower-cost variants for those who are really tight on money (or simply don’t want to spend it on a phone) that bring pricing to the sub-$200 range. It’s also worth mentioning that this year’s Moto E (2015) is also an impressive device for the money, though at sub-$150 pricing, it obviously doesn’t compare to the former two devices when it comes to specs.

Limited-edition Skrillex Live Case series launched by Google, brings more than protection and art to your device

Google is always doing something crazy. Often times the things they are working on are hidden in the depth of the Googleplex only to be unveiled when they are good and ready to show it off. A recent collaboration that Google has been involved in has just been announced and boy is it an interesting one. The search giant has partnered up with electronic music sensation Skrillex to bring a series of limited edition cases for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Skrillex Live Case from Google

The Skrillex Live Case is much more than an artistic shell that depicts the Grammy-winning producers life long fascination with space though. With Google’s help, the Skrillex Live Case brings something pretty outstanding to your device, a button that gives you VIP access to Skrillex content and an a companion live wallpaper. Again, not just your average live wallpaper that shows some crazy colors or light flows. No, the live wallpaper will update over the course of your day depicting stunning images of Earth from the stratosphere. Where it gets a little bit cooler is that the images are being shot with a special designed satellite balloon that Google and Skrillex designed, names after his dog Nanou, and sent up not to long ago.

Another killer bonus to the project is that once the satellite balloon has completed its mission, a lucky fan will be able to actually win the darn thing and it is signed by Skrillex. As for the VIP access to Skrillex content, the buyers of the Skrillex Live Case will be given access to a free OWSLA album from the Play Store. You will also get updates about Skrillex sent directly to your phone. The button that is built into the case launches Skrillex’s music feed on YouTube. The button is customizable too. Meaning you can set it to open your camera, other apps or web links.

The Skrillex Live Case limited edition cases are all individually numbered and are available on the Google Play Store starting today through the end of June for $40. If Skrillex isn’t your style, don’t get all down in the dumps as Google states there are other collaborations already in the works that they can’t wait to tell us about.

Hit the Google Store to check out the cases and an order placed. I am thinking the Lil Planet one would look killer on my Note 4.

Memorial Weekend deal: T-Mobile 64GB Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge for price of 32GB version

samsung galaxy s6 vs s6 edge aa (11 of 39)

Samsung fans that have been considering picking up the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge might want to consider doing so through T-Mobile this weekend, as the Uncarrier is kicking off a Memorial Day weekend promotion that will let folks pick up the 64GB variant of either the GS6 or Edge for the same price as you’d normally pay for the 32GB version.

For those wanting more specific details on pricing, you’ll be able to get the Galaxy S6 64GB for $679.92, or $28.33 a month for 24 months. The Galaxy S6 Edge 64GB will set you back $779.96, or $32.49 for 24 months. Doing the math, that’s $80 off what you’d normally pay for this storage configuration.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge continue to be very well received both by tech publications like Android Authority and the general consumer, though one point of contention is the lack of microSD expansion. While the 128GB model is the best choice for those that want tons of storage, the 64GB model is still a great choice and makes it much easier to live without expandable memory.

Before deciding which model is right for you, be sure to check out our full review of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Galaxy Note 5 July release rumor dismissed by Samsung

Galaxy Note 4 Verizon-21

In the past couple of days, a rumor has been circulating that Samsung was moving the release schedule of its much anticipate Galaxy Note 5 up to June. However, Samsung President Shin Jong-kyun, speaking with reporters earlier today, has flatly denied the rumor.

Typically, Samsung launches its latest Galaxy Note smartphone a day before the opening of IFA in Berlin, which takes place in September. Samsung was reported to have moved the date up, as early prototypes for the handset were finished much earlier than expected.

According to the source, Samsung had already showcased the latest prototype to clients to begin taking pre-orders for a July release. The theory was that Samsung was looking to release early to get a head start on Apple this year, but we’re not sure that makes much sense. Regardless of the speculation, Shin Jong-kyun has now quashed the rumor.

The issue of lower than expected sales for the Galaxy S6 was also brought up at the press conference. A report from Korea in late April suggested that out of the 300,000 Galaxy S6 pre-orders, only 200,000 units have been sold, but we’re still waiting on accurate figures for early sales. Shin also dismissed the reports as false, as he expects the Galaxy S6 to be a strong seller for the company this year.

Sadly, it looks like we’ll have to wait until September to see what Samsung has in store with the Galaxy Note 5. In the meantime, feel free to join us in some juicy speculating.

Samsung ships 10 million Galaxy S6 units within a month of launch

Samsung’s latest flagship models, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, are selling like hotcakes as the Korean conglomerate confirmed having shipped more than 10 million units worldwide within a month of its release.

“The sales of the Galaxy S6 series have already surpassed 10 million,” a top-notch Samsung official was quoted by the Korean Herald as saying.

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have been receiving rave reviews for their top-notch hardware specifications and greatly improved Touchwiz UI. Both models share 5.1-inch Quad HD display, Exynos 7420/ Snapdragon 810 CPU, 16-megapixel rear snapper and 5-megapixel selfie camera and 3GB RAM.

These devices are available in 32/64/128 GB storage variants. While the S6 series only packs a 2,600 mAh battery, it comes with built-in wireless-charging option – making it quite a lucrative deal. Another USP of the Galaxy S6 Edge is its unique curved screen design that is attracting a lot of attention.

Considering the current sales trend, many industry watchers have forecasted that Samsung will easily be able to ship of 50 to 70 million units.

Best Buy selling Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in Blue Topaz and Green Emerald

samsung_galaxy_s6_blue_green

Samsung launched two new colors for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge the other day–Blue Topaz and Green Emerald. The colors certainly aren’t available in a lot of places, however, Best Buy is preparing to sell these after-launch colors.

Listings for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in 32GB and 64GB models have appeared on Best Buy’s website. But, only the unlocked versions are available, so customers are going to have to dish out quite a bit of money. The Galaxy S6 is priced at $899.99, and the S6 Edge is priced at a little over $1000. On the bright side, both come with free shipping!

The price obviously alienates a lot of customers, especially after having sold the devices for roughly a month now. What’s more disappointing is that you can’t mix the two colors up–Blue Topaz is exclusive to the Galaxy S6 and Green Emerald is exclusive to the Galaxy S6 Edge.

There’s currently no date on when Best Buy will ship out these smartphones. Not only that, but they seem to be sold out online, which indicates that either there’s a high demand for these gorgeous colors or Best Buy just isn’t ready to sell them yet.

While the listings are on Best Buy’s website, there’s no clear indication if they’ll be selling these colors in-store just yet. There’s also been no clear word on selling these devices exclusively outright or if they’ll offer a contract options down the road.

Would you purchase the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in Blue Topaz or Green Emerald? They certainly are gorgeous colors on the device. Let us know in the comments!
