Report: Samsung to begin Lollipop rollout in US in January
With OEM skins, Android updates are something of a mixed bag, especially among top-tier products: the question isn’t really one of if, but instead when. Motorola, for example, has shuttered its Motoblur skin entirely, and gets updates out the door quickly. Samsung on the other hand, still requires some down-time before it can begin the roll-out. This year has seen the Korean giant speed things up considerably, with a [limited] Lollipop roll-out in select parts of Europe for the Galaxy S5 flagship some weeks ago. However, American customers are still left standing. But, not for long?
Thanks to Reddit user SamsungRep2015, we now know that the USA distribution for Android 5.0 Lollipop will begin in January. As nothing has been officially verified by Samsung USA, this information is still “unofficial”, however Reddit mods have apparently verified the authenticity of said user’s employment at Samsung. S/he reports that the Galaxy S5 will be the first to receive the update, followed by the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge, and then the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3, with tablets (such as the pair of Galaxy Tab S flagships) apparently coming in the fourth wave. The following screen capture reported to be from Samsung internal e-mails was also posted:
Despite the above image, there is no information provided as to which carriers this update will be coming to and when, nor is there any indication as to what version of Android Lollipop will be pushed: since its release, there have been three builds (5.0, 5.0.1, and 5.0.2) although the most recent seems to be currently relegated to the 2013 Nexus 7. Also missing are any details of the purported Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop update that may be reaching Europe eventually.
Still, as they say, “you can’t look a gift horse in the mouth”, and thus the effort Samsung is making to update its devices in a generally timely fashion is still something worth considering.

When LifeCHARGE offered me to review this battery case my first thoughts were of my stepfather’s constant complaining about the poor battery life of his newly acquired GS5. Although he’d just moved up from the GS3 and said the battery life was much better, he still wasn’t satisfied. So I had LifeCHARGE send one out to me for review. This is the second time they send my a battery case for review. (The first one was for the iPhone 5/5s which you can find my review on my Profile Page.) And I have to give them major props on both the quality of there products & their service.
I usually understand how to use a product at first glance. Give me 5 minutes and I’ll be using it as if I personally invented it. Assembling this is as easy as it gets. You seriously won’t need instructions. As to how it works, now that’s a little more complicated. To put it simply: just assemble, charge, and forget. The reason I say that is because once you plug in your original battery to this battery pack the phone treats both batteries as one single battery. There are no on/off buttons or battery indicator on the case. Everything is treated as a single battery. So instead of having a single 2600mAh battery, it’s more like having a 5000mAh battery powering your phone.
I have to admit that it did catch my off guard at first. When I didn’t see a power button, I was a bit confused. I had to contact customer service to find out how it worked. Once I assembled it I assumed that it would just start working right away, but you have to charge it once connected so that the 2 batteries can sync up. Once that’s done, just forget about it and keep it moving as if nothing had changed. Now let’s wrap it up with The Good, The Bad, & The Bottom Line.
The Good:
+ Easy Assembly. It couldn’t be much easier.
+ It’s very easy to use.
+ Once you connect it, you can forget about it.
+ Protects your phones from falls. It isn’t going to survive some crazy 2 story drop, but a drop om chest level should be fine.
+ Doesn’t add to much bulk. Surprisingly enough I actually like the added bulk although it isn’t much. This is coming from a guy who hates cases all together.
+ Soft touch finish is an added bonus that makes it feel better then the actual GS5 back.
The Bad:
– The phone is no longer waterproof with this case on. Which isn’t such a big deal anyways considering the average consumer forgets the phone is waterproof anyways.
– The screen itself isn’t so well protected. If it drops directly on the screen it will still shatter like any other. My solution to that is to buy yourself a tempered glass screen protector.
The Bottom Line:
The bottom line is that this case’s positives far outweigh it’s negatives. It’s definitely a good buy for anyone who wants to get the most out of their GS5. Battery life went from about 17hrs with 3.5hrs Screen on time to 2 days with 6.5hrs of screen on time. I’d recommend it, and it also makes a great gift. I hope you guys enjoy more CHARGE in your Life.

Android Lollipop for the Samsung Galaxy S4 confirmed, coming in early 2015
Now there’s a face we haven’t seen in awhile. The Samsung Galaxy S4 has fallen somewhat out of the limelight some 19 months after its release, but that doesn’t mean Samsung has forgotten about its highest selling device to date (if the Galaxy S5 has broken any records, Samsung is keeping awfully quiet about it). SamMobile has acquired information that confirms that Android Lollipop for the Samsung Galaxy S4 is definitely coming and will be out sometime early next year, we’d expect around the same time Lollipop drops for the Galaxy S5, once all the carrier bloating has already occured.
The TouchWiz experience on the Galaxy S4 should be quite similar to that which you’ll find on the Galaxy S5, of which we’ve already had multiple sneak peeks at. We’re actually pretty impressed that Samsung is going to update the Galaxy S4, mainly because it’s a bit of a stretch of its 18 month update guarantee and given Samsung’s sometimes spotty reputation with device updates. That said, the Galaxy S4 still ranks pretty high on Samsung’s hierachy of devices despite its age, but Galaxy S4 owners should be expecting Android Lollipop to be their last update unless the smartphone giant changes its policies.

Sprint now leasing Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy S5 Sport
Sprint is one of the leading carriers in the United States, and today they have announced a new deal which might attract a lot of new customers. If you are a huge Samsung fan, and would love to get your hands on either the Samsung Galaxy S5, or Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport from Sprint, then you can get either of them on lease for just $20 a month for 24 months.
After 2 years have passed, you will have four different choices.
- You can give back your smartphone and lease another handset.
- You can purchase it if you really like it.
- You can continue leasing it on a month-by-month basis.
- You can return the device and terminate your Sprint service.

Sprint expands its super-fast network to 17 new locations
Sprint has today expanded its Spark LTE service to include 17 new locations, which now makes a total of 46 markets across the US where the enhanced coverage is currently available. Spark is an optimized version of the operator’s LTE network, which is designed to deliver peak wireless speeds of between 50-60 Mbps on a number of capable device, including the HTC One (M8), Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z3, and many more.
“With its unique combination of network technologies, spectrum capacity and tri-band devices, Sprint Spark is designed to greatly improve the performance of video and other bandwidth-intensive applications,’ says Sprint.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Android Lollipop update should hit sometime in December
Android Lollipop is now officially released for all and for all of us who don’t own Nexus devices, now begins the excruciating wait for software updates to the latest version of Android. With various manufacturers making their promises for when their devices are going to be updated, many people have turned their attention to Samsung to see if the Android giant is going to do anything differently than it has in the past. As it turns out, it might, as the Samsung Galaxy S5 Android Lollipop update is allegedly going to be available sometime in December.
This information comes to us via SamMobile, who’s sources have narrowed their previous claim down from “November or December”. SamMobile has also already given us a sneak peek of Android Lollipop on the Galaxy S5 so when the update does finally roll out, it’s unlikely that we’ll see anything that’s too foreign to us. It’s worth noting that while December is the quoted window for this update, depending on your region, the update may not end up reaching you for a few more weeks after it is officially released. At least we know it’s coming though.

Samsung Galaxy S5 to get Android 5.0 Lollipop in December, report says
Samsung’s 2014 flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, could be among the first handsets to see an Android 5.0 Lollipop update. At least that’s what a new SamMobile report tells us. According to a source close to the blog, the Galaxy S5 will get its update in December. The level of certainty is pretty high here as the website already has a video of the smartphone running a version of the build.
If the timeline is accurate the Galaxy S5 will be one of the quickest turnarounds in Samsung’s history. Then again, we’re looking at the unlocked international version. We’ll have to worry about various wireless carriers standing in the way. Still, whatever it is, it’s considerably better than in days past. Remember when it would take 6-10 months to get a software update?

SamMobile gets a 8 minute sneak peak of Android L on the Samsung Galaxy S5
We’re now less than one month away from the alleged official launch of Android L which means that software update season is going to begin. Samsung isn’t usually the first name to come up when talking about quick updates, but from an eight minute exclusive video of Android L on the Samsung Galaxy S5, it looks like Samsung has already been busy behind the scenes. The video walks through a few of the new improvements and menus which is featured in the Samsung Android L test build LRW58J. Check it out:
As you can see, Android L on the Galaxy S5 has all the hallmarks of Material Design, with the slick transitions and a brighter colour palette. Perhaps unfortunately, Samsung’s interpretation is still very skinned and very much TouchWiz influenced – Samsung has apparently even neglected the notification icon changes that we have spotted in previous leaked screenshots. Whether you support this or not is entirely your preference, but we would have though more OEMs would have opted for a more “stock” approach given that Google has worked so hard on the UI for Android L.
