Who was the real winner at the Academy Awards? Samsung won at the Oscars
You probably watched the 86th Academy Awards today. You probably also saw the above photo, but from the phone’s perspective, which by the way is the most retweeted tweet of all time. And that phone that they took it with? A Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which host Ellen DeGeneres used throughout the night; talk about product placement. While Ellen proudly paraded the phone about, usually quite non-discreetly, using it whenever prudent (or not), it did prove without a doubt that Samsung won at the Oscars, from an advertising perspective at the very least. You might have thought Samsung would be happy with having their device on stage all night, but that’s not all; Samsung also aired its very first advertisement for the Samsung Galaxy S5 at the Oscars, which you can check out below:
A simple ad, but it gets the point across, and on a night when millions tuned in to see “the biggest and the brightest”, that’s some killer advertising for their newest flagship smartphone, capping off a very Samsung night. In fact, Samsung didn’t just win at the Oscars; Samsung’s had their fingers in all kinds of globally televised events recently, for instance, like being the major sponsor for the Sochi Olympics, or featuring heavily at the NBA All-Star Weekend, and the list goes on.
While some people might hope that the Samsung Galaxy S5 doesn’t do as well as it traditionally does for whatever reason, Samsung has taken the steps it needs to dominate yet another year of sales by putting their name out again and again on the global stage, and you have to give credit where credit is due. Did you tune into the Oscars, and what did you think of Samsung’s presence there? Can you see Samsung repeating what they did with the Galaxy S4 with the Galaxy S5? Let us know your opinion in the comments.

For the record: the Samsung Galaxy S5 actually has 10.7GB free on the 16GB Version
Despite not even being official for a week, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has already had its fair share of criticisms, ranging from its appearance to the fact that people think it hasn’t innovated enough from its last iteration. One particular sticking point that has caught everyone’s attention is the fact, as discovered by Android Central, that the devices seen at MWC 2014 only had 7.86GB of its total 16GB available for use. Understandable, the community was slightly outraged: having less than half the available space available for use is slightly ridiculous, even by Samsung‘s standards, and for most people was just another nail in the coffin for the Galaxy S5. Well, you can put your hammers away, for not anyway, as the record is about to be set straight.
While the devices at MWC 2014 did indeed only have 7.86GB free, quite a lot of the space being taken up was content that was only there for MWC and the Unpacked event. What this means is that the device will actually have quite a lot more free space on the 16GB model, 10.7GB in fact, and while this still pales in comparison to the amount of free space available to other device, least of all Nexus devices, this amount is still much better than the 9GB left by the Galaxy S4.
So there you have it: the Galaxy S5 isn’t as much of a storage hog as we previously though, so there shouldn’t be any more reservations with getting the 16GB version. Are you more convinced to get the Samsung Galaxy S5 now that you know you actually have internal storage space to play with? Let us know what you think in the comments.

A slightly more accurate version of the blue Samsung Galaxy S5 wallpaper, courtesy of Shimmi
The highly anticipated launch of the Samsung Galaxy S5 turned out to be a bust for many people who expected a slightly more inspired design and innovations from the Korean manufacturer, though many of us were absolutely enamoured with the wallpapers that we saw on their screens during the announcement. While the device has yet to be released so we can’t get at the official versions of the wallpapers, some talented designers out there have painstakingly recreated the Samsung Galaxy S5 wallpaper.
While we did feature a blue version of the wallpaper last week (see here), that was quite a bit lighter than the version we saw at MWC and wasn’t quite right. Thanks to Shimmi though, who also created the mixed colour version of the wallpaper we featured (see here), the blue wallpaper has also been recreated and looks a lot closer to the real thing. As an added bonus, Shimmi has upscaled both the blue and coloured wallpapers up to 1080p for those of you who want the Full HD versions of the; click down below to get the full-sized wallpapers:

Virgin and Boost Mobile to Stock the Samsung Galaxy S5 in Quarter 2
Big name devices just aren’t for the the big name carriers anymore. Sprint’s pre-paid brands, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile USA, will both offer the Samsung Galaxy S5 to potential consumers some time in Q2. That puts it between April and June. Accroding to the press release, both pre-paid version will also have access to the Sprint Spark high-speed data connections, where available of course.
Pricing details haven’t been announced just yet though. All they have to offer are two Facebook postings saying it is coming. We fully expect them to cost an arm and half a leg. Taking into consideration that it is a pre-paid network and the Galaxy S III is still listed at $349.99 with Boost.
We will be sure to let you all know more details as we get them.

LucidLogix technologies will give the Samsung Galaxy S5 up to 25% better battery Life
Many of you who saw the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S5 would have seen a battery-saving technology demoed that allows the screen of the device to turn black and white and results in a large increase in battery life. Along with this technology, however, Samsung has said that the Galaxy S5 also has 3 more battery saving measures built into it, all courtesy of LucidLogix.
These measures include Lucid’s Xtend features: NavExtend, WebExtend, and GamExtend, all of which affect a different part of the Galaxy S5′s functionality giving an overall better battery life. As the names may suggest, NavExtend works on extending battery life during use with navigation features like GPS, WebExtend extends battery life during web surfing by up to 25%, and GamExtend cuts down battery consumption during processor intensive activities like gaming. As you can see, all these little things will add up to huge gains in battery life for the Galaxy S5; who said the Galaxy S5 wasn’t innovative?
I guess we won’t know exactly how good these battery saving features are until the device gets formally reviewed, but it’s definitely going to be an interesting test of its abilities. Who’s more intrigued by the Galaxy S5 after hearing the news about its battery saving features? Let us know what you think in the comments.
Get the Samsung Galaxy S5 wallpaper here, now in Blue!
Yesterday we posted up one of the wallpapers featured on the Samsung Galaxy S5 when it was announced at MWC 2014 yesterday; despite being the most anticipated device at MWC, the Galaxy S5 failed to illicit the kind of impression that its predecessors have, however, it appears that the most lasting image that people are left with of the device is its wallpaper. That wallpaper has been a hit on the internet, though some might say it’s a bit too colourful (check out that wallpaper here). For those that think that, there was also an alternate blue wallpaper featured on the new Samsung device, though it has been difficult to track down, until now. It’s been heavily requested, but I’m glad to say that we’ve found it: the Samsung Galaxy S5 wallpaper in blue.
Thanks to Jahir Hussein, the blue wallpaper can now be downloaded in all its glory down below:
It might actually be a bit lighter than the version seen on the Galaxy S5, but try it out and let us know how you find it. If you’re going to rock this wallpaper on your device, let us know what your device is, or even better, share your homescreen with us in the comments below.

Belkin Announces New Samsung Galaxy S5 Accessories
The Samsung Galaxy S5 was announced yesterday and despite what comments you’ve read on the internet it is a new flagship phone and with that title comes accessories. Bring in Belkin. The company announced their new line of accessories made specifically for the Samsung Galaxy S5 and boy are there plenty to choose from. As always cases play a major role as the first accessories made for any flagship so Belkin came out with two different types. We have the Wallet Folio Case and the Air Protect Grip Extreme Case.
The wallet folio case is the general flip cover case that doubles as a credit/debit card holder on the inside and comes in a variety of colors for only $39.99. As an added bonus you can also use this case a stand for movie watching.
The second case (Air Protect Grip Extreme) is made more for complete protection. Using their patented Shocwave technology in the corners of the Air Protect case allows you to more easily deal with the bumps and bruises of day to day life for a modest price ($34.99).
Then finally there are the chargers, you know those things that keep your phone alive when your battery is running low ;). Hopefully it doesn’t come down to this but let’s say you lose the charger for that new S5 of yours, or if you’re like me, your puppy chews through it on day one, Belkin has you covered. They have launched some great wall chargers that will put out the 2.1 Amps that you need to charge your devices should that fate befall you, if not well they still come in handy for your other mobile devices.
So if you’re planning to get your hands on the Samsung Galaxy S5 Belkin would be a great place to look for some accessories.
