Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime with Quad HD display rumoured to arrive in June to counter LG G3 Release

Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime with Quad HD displayWe’ve suspected for some time now that Samsung will be bringing out a slightly updated version of its Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone with a higher resolution screen and slightly updated hardware specs. This so-called Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime with Quad HD display is rumoured to be Samsung’s answer to the LG G3 which is expected to be announced as soon as LG’s event on May 27th, and will include the elusive 2K resolution display that was absent from the Galaxy S5 that launched in early April.

While we had almost believed that Samsung had perhaps sensibly decided that 1080p displays are as detailed as smartphone screens need to be, the reason, according to the Korea Herald, is actually that Samsung found that producing AMOLED displays with 2560×1440 pixels in large enough quantities to meet the demand for the global launch for the Galaxy S5 was just too expensive. To counter this supply issue, Samsung resolved to release a second device, this Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime, at higher cost and with the 2K resolution display which would undoubtably sell fewer devices than the flagship Galaxy S5. Whether the rest of the hardware in this Galxy S5 Prime would be different from the original remains to be seen, but we may find out sooner than later with June just around the corner.

What do you think about a 2K device like the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime? Would you get this over the original Galaxy S5? Let us know your opinion in the comments.

c_spire_logo

C Spire Wireless on Monday announced new shared plans that offer competitive pricing as compared to its larger competitors. Available immediately, customers who bring four lines of service can take advantage of the new, $160 plan which breaks down to $40 per line. What do you get for the money? Each line of service receives unlimited voice, text, and access to a pool of 10GB shared data.

For those who don’t have need for four lines of service or want that much data, there are 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB plans as well. Should customers find themselves going over the allotted data pools speeds will be throttled.

In addition to the multi-line shared plans, the company also introduced new pricing for smaller allocations of data, which are now just $25 for 1 GB or $40 for 2 GBs of data, a savings of $20 a month for each option. In addition, the company added a new 3 GB option for $60 a month.

Today also sees C Spire Wireless begin offering pre-orders for the  Samsung Galaxy S5. Pricing for the handset is listed at $199.99 with a two-year service agreement. Availability is expected “later this month.”

The Samsung Galaxy K Zoom is official, perfect for the obsessive mobile Photographer

Samsung Galaxy K ZoomThe Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom was one of the more interesting devices to come from Samsung last year. Combining the general shape of the Galaxy S4 with more of a photography focus was an intriguing combination, and at the very least, an impressive niche product. Whatever you thought of it, Samsung is obviously confident enough to follow that device up with this year’s offering, the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom.

The Galaxy K Zoom combines the design and look of a fully functional Galaxy S5 smartphone with a 20.7MP camera lens with 10x optical zoom. In addition to the beefy camera specs, the Galaxy K Zoom also benefits from OIS which should help immensely with stabilizing images and videos. The 4.8-inch device is more than just a pretty face, however, as it possesses a hexacore Exynos 5 Hexa processor, 2GM RAM, Android 4.4 and a 2,430mAh battery. What’s probably most interesting is that Samsung didn’t name the devices the Galaxy S5 Zoom, possibly implying that they don’t necessarily want the Zoom line to be inherently tied to their flagship releases. Whatever the truth, it looks like Galaxy Zoom devices are here to stay, for now.

What do you think about the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom? Are you considering getting one over, say, the Sony Xperia Z2? Let us know your opinion in the comments below.

Verizon and Samsung acknowledge Galaxy S5 camera bug, offers device Exchange

Both Samsung and Verizon are acknowledging that there is a camera bug that is floating around the Galaxy S5 that causes a “Warning: Camera Failed” message to appear. Samsung let The Verge know in an official statement that they are aware that a “limited number” of devices are experiencing the issue.

“Warning: Camera Failed” Galaxy S5Samsung says that anyone that is having this problematic situation can contact them at 1-888-987-4357 or visit a carrier store for an exchange. Verizon took to Twitter to saying people can contact them at @VZWsupport to resole the issue and that they will replace the device if needed.

We assume that other carriers are following suit since it seems to be a Galaxy S5 issue, not just a Verizon branded issue.

As of right now there isn’t a specif reason for the failure, but once the warning hits your device you are SOL for any photos as it renders the camera useless. If it is a hardware issue that will put Samsung on a pretty slippery slope with no other choice but to keep exchanging devices for ones that you hope will work. If it is a software glitch, then they have a chance to prevent it from costing them and the carriers a lot of money. Since Samsung is one of the remaining OEMs to not release their camera app to the Play Store, a full fledged OTA would be the only solution.

Anyone out there have the “Warning: Camera Failed” message bug ruin their memories?

[VIDEO] UI Performance test between the HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S5 is the test that we all want to See

UI Performance test between the HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S5The battle between Samsung and HTC flagship smartphones was first ignited between the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the original HTC One. Now, the battle has moved onto the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8, and the competition between the two is no less fierce. While the Galaxy S5 is predictably selling like hotcakes, the real question that Android buffs everywhere want answered is which device is definitively the best? Well, if we’re talking about performance and multitasking, Chris Nacca has put together yet another video as a UI performance test between the HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S5; check out the video below:

As with Chris’ previous video comparing the Nexus 5 and Galaxy S5, the One M8 and the Galaxy S5 are very evenly matched when opening apps for the first time, however, the real difference becomes very obvious when trying to multitask. The One M8 is far quicker than the Galaxy S5 with the Samsung device even looking laggy when trying to multitask quickly. Probably even more notable for those choosing between the One M8 and Nexus 5 is that the One M8′s multitasking menu looks far more useful based on the demo in this video. The real moral of the story, however, is that while the Samsung Galaxy S5 is on paper a faster device, its UI performance is still inferior to that of the HTC One M8.

Sense 6.0: 1, TouchWiz: 0

What do you think about the UI performance of both these devices? Are you surprised by the findings, or is this pretty much what you expected? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

The Crystal Collection for Samsung Galaxy S5 is for the smartphone user who needs a bit more Sparkle

crystal collection for samsung galaxy s5Have you ever thought that the Samsung Galaxy S5 needed more crystals? No? Well, neither did we, but Samsung has nonetheless announced that it is going to be bringing out crystal encrusted devices to be called the “Crystal Collection for Samsung Galaxy S5“. If that’s not already too melodramatic for you, check out the 12 second trailer that Samsung has outed for the announcement:

Yes, those are Swarovski crystals embedded in the back of the Galaxy S5, which are sure to sparkle to your heart’s content (but not your wallet’s). While no pricing details have been formally specified, the Crystal Collection for Samsung Galaxy S5 is certain to cost a very pretty penny. This isn’t the first time that Samsung has produced a Swarovski collaboration device; the sparkly Galaxy S5 is preceded by a similar version of the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy S4. The Crystal Collection is going to be available in Korea (no mention of other countries yet) come May, so make sure to save your pennies.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 makes up 0.7 percent of all Android devices in just one Week

Samsung Galaxy S5 makes up 0.7 percentWe always knew that sales for the Samsung Galaxy S5 were going to be astronomically high. If there was any doubt of that, reports that the Galaxy S5 is outdoing even its predecessor, the Galaxy S4 (at least in Europe), and being traded-in for iPhones are probably an indication that all is more than just good for Samsung‘s latest smartphone. If you needed even more evidence of exactly how good the Galaxy S5 is doing, Localytics is today reporting that, according to their data, the Samsung Galaxy S5 makes up 0.7 percent of all currently active Android devices after only one week.

That’s a pretty impressive feat considering the iPhone 5S only managed to achieve 1.1 percent penetration of all iOS devices. And why are we saying “only”? To put that in perspective, current estimations put Android at having 80% of the entire smartphone market. Even if we assume that iOS makes up the other 20% of the market, 0.7 percent of 80 is an absolutely massive chunk of that pie and an incredible number of devices to have sold in a week. Despite what you may think of the Korean smartphone giant, you have to give credit where credit is due. And again, that’s just after a week.

Samsung Galaxy S5 makes up 0.7 percentLocalytics goes on to report that of the Galaxy S5′s that have been sold, 64% of them have been sold in America, distantly followed by another 23% sold in all of Europe. No doubt the Galaxy S5 is going to continue its barnstorming to the top of the Android sales leaderboard.

What do you think about these sales figures? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
