Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5 will be ‘Terminal Samsung Galaxy S5′ for two weeks as part of marketing Campaign
Samsung is well known for its over-the-top and arguably excessive marketing campaigns, however, this one definitely takes the cake. Starting on May 19th for two weeks, Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 is going to be temporarily rebranded as ‘Terminal Samsung Galaxy S5′, a rebranding which will include all the signs in the terminal, as well as all 172 digital panels around the terminal, and will feature the terminal’s new name and images of the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone.
To be completed in collaboration with JCDecaux Airport, the campaign will be witnessed by the thousands of air travellers that pass through part of the ‘busiest airport in the world’ every day, and is the first initiative of its kind. Naturally, Samsung is hoping that the campaign will further boost the impressive performance of the Samsung Galaxy S5 in the U.K. and Europe, though it’s not like that much help in selling truckloads of the devices, but why quit when you’re ahead right?
It’s definitely an interesting move by Samsung to try something on this scale, but we wonder that since Samsung has now set the precedent, will we be seeing more campaigns like this in the future? Let us know what you think of the campaign in the comments.

Why we love (and hate) our smartphones [EDITORIAL]

In the world of mobile devices, specifically mobile phones, we all have our favorite device as well as our favorite manufacturer that we constantly rely on and steadily buy from. At the same time we also have things that we don’t like about certain manufacturers, such as the way they make devices, their UI/UX, the lack of battery life, too many “features” gimmicks as they tend to call them and many other things.
Today, I’m going to give you my own personal opinions about the devices that I have used over the past 3 years, which ones I liked, why I liked them, as well as the manufacturers that I prefer to use the devices from, and those that just turn my head away completely.

Devices I’ve Owned
I started in the world of Android back in late June of 2011 and my first device was the HTC MyTouch 4G through T-Mobile. I kept the device stock from the day I got until the day I got rid of it about 8 months later when I made the switch to Verizon to get the ever impressive and loved Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I ended up rooting the Nexus after about a month, because I wanted something different.
After keeping the Galaxy Nexus for a bit of time, I moved up the the Samsung Galaxy S4. Again, I rooted this device after a short period of time and I’ll explain why a bit later. After the S4 came the LG G2 which I managed to keep for a whopping 6 months via AT&T and then as usual, it was time to change devices again.
Now enter the time that I started up AndroidDissected which is now TechDissected and always having access to the latest and greatest devices for review purposes. Since these sites came into existence, I’ve owned devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Note 3, Galaxy Mega, Galaxy S4 Activ. Then there’s devices such as the aforementioned LG G2, the LG G Flex, LG Nexus 4, and a couple of others. HTC had a couple of devices in there, such as the HTC One(M7) and HTC One(M8), the HTC Amaze and the HTC Sensation.
Also in that list is now my daily driver, the Motorola Moto X, and previously before that was my Motorola Moto G which I still own. There are of course other devices that I’m sure I’m forgetting to mention, but the point is, I’ve owned devices from all of the major manufacturers that most everyone reading this will have used at least one device from. This gives me solid ground to tell what I like about certain devices or manufacturers as well as the things I don’t particularly care for.
One thing to note is that no where in this article am I comparing battery life of years ago to the battery life we have today in some devices. I’m also not comparing Froyo or Ice Cream Sandwich to today’s Jelly Bean. I’m simply comparing devices to devices and things that I either liked or disliked about each device and/or manufacturer that produced them.

Copper Gold and Electric Blue Galaxy S5s Headed to Canada Soon
Color variations of the hot flagship devices is nothing new. Various OEMs have been doing for decades. While many like to stick with the more traditional black, white or silver options, there are plenty out there that like to have a little more color in their life without the need for a case to achieve it. A little birdy, Samsung Canada Twitter account, let loose an image simply stating that two new color options of the Samsung galaxy S5 are headed to our northern friends in Canada soon.
They keep the tweet short and sweet by offering up the rear images of both color options, as seen above, with a ‘coming soon’ bit of text. The two new color offerings will certainly add a little spice to the current Charcoal Black and Shimmery White options. As it sits right now, Rogers is the only confirmed Canadian carrier to be bringing the new color options ‘soon’. However, we expect others to offer them as well.

First being a much quicker launch time when bring bring up the camera app along with a quicker launch time for the gallery app. The second important aspect of the update is related to the finger print scanner being more accurate.
The update will trickle around the globe slowly with it starting in the UK. Samsung has the update available for manual installation vie Samsung Kies, but a traditional OTA is also being rolled out. Of course updating through Kies will prevent you from having to wait very long for the update.

Samsung Galaxy S5 sells 10 million units in 25 days, beats Galaxy S4 by 2 Days
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has a lot of expectation to live up to; it’s predecessors have been the best selling smartphones of all time and for it not to join that list would make it one colossal failure for Samsung. To put it in perspective, the Galaxy S4 sold 10 million units in its first 27 days, easily eclipsing the Galaxy S3 for the fastest mark. Well, the Galaxy S5 has now been out for a month now, so how fast exactly did it reach the mark? Korean news website Hankyung is reporting that the Galaxy S5 actually reached 10 million sales after just 25 days, narrowly (but still impressively) beating out its predecessor.
If true, this figure is an incredibly impressive figure considering the already existing saturation of the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3. What’s unusual is that Samsung itself isn’t reporting this news as the Korean tech giant is often first to boast about its sales figures, though that might just be because they are preparing a formal statement about it. Regardless, it looks like the general public aren’t as critical of the device as the critics have been and it looks like the Galaxy S5 still has a very bright future ahead of it yet.
What do you think about this news? Let us know your opinion in the comments below.

Samsung Galaxy S5 finally making its way to Virgin Mobile USA May 19th
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Samsung has a pretty good strong hold on device sales for a single model. The Samsung galaxy S5 is no different. The key to the dominance is pretty simple, put the device on as many carriers as possible. The big 4 in the states might be the biggest, but the other guys out there have a fair number of customers wanting the latest device too. We always knew Virgin Mobile USA was going to be getting the Galaxy S5, we just never knew when it would be available beyond Q2. That has changed as the new landing page at Virgin Mobile points us to May 19th as the official launch date for the device.
Virgin doesn’t offer up any pre-ordering options nor are they tossing out a price tag. They do offer no payments or interest on purchases of $99 if you qualify when you pay with Bill Me Later. The Galaxy S5 retails at $650 with Sprint and with Virgin being a Sprint company, we expect it to be about the same.
Any Virgin Mobile USA customers, or potential customers, looking to pick this up on the 19th?

Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime could be offered in limited quanities

According to Korean sources, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime could be offered in a limited supply given the high cost manufacturing the product.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime could be launched with a QHD display which would warrant the ‘Prime’ tagline for the updated device, and also stand as a significant differentiator from the recently launched Galaxy S5.
By limiting production costs by restricting supplies could mean Samsung could market the GS5 Prime as a premium limited supply device, thus increasing the desirability of it.
Could this spin save all the Galaxy S5 customers from feeling hard done by for Samsung releasing an update to the device so shortly after release?
