Sprint’s Samsung Galaxy S4 gets Android 5.0 Lollipop

Samsung Galaxy S4 Lollipop Update

It’s a known fact that old technology–even if its only three years–often doesn’t get updated to the latest and greatest, such as Android 5.0 Lollipop. We’ve seen this time and time again with Samsung and LG devices. Thankfully, Galaxy S4 owners aren’t apart of that crowd, and users touting the device on Sprint should be getting the update sometime today.

If you haven’t been prompted to download the new firmware version, select the check for updates option in your smartphone. However, keep in mind that you may not receive it today, as these updates are often rolled out in stages, as is the case with many carriers.

Have you received Android 5.0 Lollipop on your Galaxy S4 yet? Be sure to let us know in the comments.

Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 updated to Android Lollipop

galaxy s4 vs iphone 5 s4 back aa

It has been known for a while now that the Samsung Galaxy S4 would eventually be updated to Lollipop. Since the announcement, the Galaxy S4 has seen slow progress with the update first landing in Russia and India, then seeing a few European countries, and now the US is finally starting to receive Lollipop as well. AT&T and T-Mobile’s variants have already received the update and this week customers who own the Galaxy S4 on Verizon will also see the latest sweet treat.

The update pushes the Galaxy S4 to Android 5.0.1, and like most of Samsung’s other devices to receive Lollipop, the update includes a slightly tweaked Touchwiz UI that better matches Google’s Material Design, though the aesthetic changes aren’t nearly as noticeable as what you’d find in a stock Android device. The Samsung apps have gotten lighter with a white background and colours to match those seen in the latest Galaxy handsets. This update is also supposed to bring performance enhancements and possibly longer battery life.

If you have received this update, feel free to leave your impressions down in the comments.

Yet another report of Samsung being surprised at Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge popularity

By now, you will have heard that Samsung‘s flagship devices, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, are quite amazing devices. Accordingly, they are extremely popular pretty much everywhere that they have gone on sale, so it should come as no surprise that both devices are killing it in Samsung’s native South Korea. Yonhap News is reporting that sales for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have been “much higher than expected” and that sales have reached an “all-time high” compared to previous Galaxy S devices, and that’s high praise indeed seeing as the Galaxy S4 sold like hotcakes too.

What’s most interesting is that up to 50% of the sales in Korea have been for the S6 Edge, the more expensive of the two flagship. Even an anonymous Samsung official has admitted that their company had “failed to make a precise prediction of demand”, which isn’t exactly a bad problem to have, but customers wanting the S6 Edge might have to wait a little longer for theirs as Samsung catches up on supply. You can bet that Samsung will come out with some pretty impressive statistics in the next few days to highlight exactly how good sales have been.

What do you think about the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge’s popularity? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Android 5.0.1 Lollipop now rolling out to the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4

moto x vs galaxy s4 aa design s4 back in hand

Although there have been two new iterations in the Galaxy S lineup since its launch, the Galaxy S4 is still a great device. For those who are on AT&T’s network and still own this device, you should be getting a nice update sometime in the near future. AT&T has just begun pushing out Android 5.0.1 Lollipop to the Samsung Galaxy S4. The update, which is 947MB in size, carries build number LRX22C.1337UCUGOC3.

Multiple other Samsung devices have already gotten the Lollipop update including the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3 and 4, and some variants of the Galaxy Note Edge. The most notable changes you’ll see with Lollipop are some improvements in the UI with Google’s new Material Design guidelines, Priority Mode notifications, Smart Lock security features and much more.

According to the AT&T update page, this is what you’ll get with the new update:

  • Songs, photos, apps, and even recent searches from one Android device can be immediately enjoyed across all of your Android devices.
  • New User Interface look and feel, more fluid motions
  • Priority mode to only allow certain notifications to get through
  • Battery saving features and remaining time left to charge or deplete indicators
  • Smart Lock to secure phone or tablet by pairing it with a trusted device like a wearable or car
  • Most frequently used settings available with just two swipes down from the top screen
  • Removal of Code Scanner, Browser Bar and Softcard apps

Since the update is so large in size, AT&T requires that you download it over Wi-Fi. If you have yet to receive the OTA, you may have to wait a day or two before it comes to your device.

S4 owners, how are you liking the new update?

AT&T is pushing out Android 5.0 to their Samsung Galaxy S4

Patience is a virtue they say. While I can agree with that to some degree, technology and the “instant” gratification it can bring certainly makes our patience run thin when it comes to updates. Those of you that are still holding on to dear life with your Samsung Galaxy S4 with AT&T are in for […]

Rejoice, Galaxy S4 owners! AT&T is giving your device it’s first Lollipop update today. Going directly to version 5.0.1, this update should bring new life to your S4. This update is a huge 947MB, and comes with plenty of new features that have been touted in Android’s latest iteration. Surprisingly, you will see this update get rid of some bloatware apps that were previously stuck on your device.

The removal of some of this bloatware plus a faster Android version should result in you seeing a quicker experience on your Galaxy S4. A list of the features included in this update along with a step-by-step walk-through on downloading the update is available at AT&T’s software updates page.
