‘Kerbal Space Program’ is coming to PS4
Imaginative rocket designers have good news out of E3 tonight, as the Kerbal Space Program team revealed that its quirky construction and space flight simulation is coming to the PlayStation 4. There’s no release date yet, just the announcement, but it’s yet another notable score on Sony’s list of indie developer wins. Considering it took a couple of years for the original to go from Steam Early Access star to official release we wouldn’t hold our breath, but hopefully the team has enough resources to make a quick transition to the console.

Platinum Games is working on a new ‘NieR’ game for PS4
It’s been five years since NieR last arrived on consoles, but at today’s Square Enix E3 press conference, the publisher announced that a new title is in-development for the PlayStation 4. Fans of the franchise will be pleased to know that Platinum Games is handling the development of this new title and, as producer Atsushi Inaba mentioned on stage, there’ll be a heavy focus on action. Though we were treated to a short “sneak peek,” the company stressed that this footage was merely a proof of concept, and that we could expect to hear more this Fall.‘Shenmue 3’ smashes $2 million Kickstarter goal in 9 hours

The long-awaited sequel to the iconic Dreamcast franchise Shenmue is really happening. Shenmue 3, unveiled by series visionary Yu Suzuki at Sony’s E3 press conference, has already hit $2 million on Kickstarter. It’s almost certainly a crowdfunding record, and means fans will get to play as Ryo once more on their PS4 and PC. Given that Sega doesn’t have an E3 booth this year, the game’s revival has certainly come as a shock to fans. The original games were cult classics on Sega’s last console, but many assumed the publisher had given up on a third entry. The company is a little busy developing Sonic and Angry Birds crossover games for mobile, after all. So it wasn’t surprising to hear that in order to fund a third instalment, the Shenmue team needed Kickstarter. The campaign was essentially an open challenge to fans: You say you’ve always wanted this game, now prove it.
With $2 million in the bank, Shenmue 3 is now slated for a December 2017 release. Of course, the game still has until July 18th to gather support, and the team has a raft of stretch goals including rapport and skill tree systems, extra mini games and an expanded Baisha Village. In addition to new gameplay from The Last Guardian and a confirmed Final Fantasy VII remake, this E3 has proven to be pretty special for Sony and PS4 owners.

20th Anniversary PS4 controller and headset bring back PSX colors
PlayStation fans who have been with Sony’s system since the beginning can pledge their allegiance with a pair of new PS4 accessories. Designed to commemorate the original PlayStation’s 20th anniversary, this DualShock 4 and Gold Wireless rock the familiar two-tone gray color scheme with its distinctive PlayStation logo. They’ll arrive in the US for $65 and $99 (respectively) this September. The controller is coming to Europe and Asia too, but there’s no word on the headphones.

Sony invites PS4 gamers to invade each other’s ‘Dreams’
Leave it to Media Molecule, the Sony first-party studio responsible for the crafty Tearaway and level-creation bonanza that is LittleBigPlanet, to introduce something a little different at E3. Dreams, as the new title is called, takes a unique approach to gameplay, letting PlayStation 4 users create, explore and “remix” each other’s dreams. Alex Evans, studio co-founder, explained that by using the DualShock 4’s motion controls, players can easily “piece together a whole environment in moments.” There’s also the ability to animate characters of your own creation using performance capture.

But dream creation isn’t the only intriguing aspect of the game — there also seems to be a slew of gameplay modes, as the demo showed off a cutesy bear attacking zombies; a sci-fi jetski-like aerial fight and two adorable polar bears sliding down snowy slopes and snuggling. There’s no word on a release date yet, so you’ll have to sit tight.
‘Final Fantasy VII’ is getting a genuine remake on PS4
Final Fantasy VII is being remade. It’s coming to PS4 (at least first) and it’s all beautiful and goosebumpy. That all-too PC version? Well, that’s probably coming too. But this is what I, er, you wanted. The trailer is suitably obtuse, but there are glimpses of a guy with a gun for an arm and some blonde guy toting an oversized “buster” sword. Whoever that is. Get ready to squeal — well, a little — after the break.
Sony adds a la carte channel subscription to PlayStation Vue
If you’ve been longing to ditch your cable provider for PS Vue, PlayStation’s streaming take on “television,” then you’ll like what Sony Computer Entertainment head Andrew House announced at E3 today. This July, PlayStation users will have the option to sign-up for à la carte programming. That’s right, individual channels will be made available for subscription, allowing users to opt-out of pricey programming tiers. The new subscription feature will launch with Showtime, Machinima and Fox Soccer Channel. What’s more, House confirmed that PS Plus subscribers will be privy to unspecified discounts for programming packages. And if that wasn’t enough good news, House also added that, starting tonight, PS Vue will be made available to PS4 users in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

‘Shenmue III’ will come to PC and PS4 with your help
Apparently, the running theme of Sony’s E3 event is “long-sought follow-ups to classic games.” Famed developer Yu Suzuki has revealed that he’s crowdfunding Shenmue III, the sequel to a much-admired action role-playing series that many thought had ended back in 2001 — or 2002, if you got the Xbox version of Shenmue II. The open-world title will pick up Ryo’s adventure where it left off, with a visit to China to hunt down his father’s murderer. It’ll be available on both the PC and PlayStation 4 if all goes well, and there are promises of new fighting mechanics in addition to familiar elements.
Shenmue III isn’t expected to ship until December 2017 if it makes its funding target, but the good news is that it won’t take much to get a copy of your own. A $29 pledge is enough to land a digital edition for your platform of choice, while $60 will net you a physical version. From there, it’s all about the perks: Higher pledges include signed art, the original Ryo press event jacket and even dinner with Suzuki himself. If you were a fan of the franchise’s groundbreaking gameplay, there’s a good chance that you’ll want to pitch in.

‘Uncharted 4’ looks like a ghost from E3’s past
We knew Uncharted 4 was coming, but tonight we got to see something much better looking than our tease from last E3 and the PlayStation Experience event from late last year. The game looks great with lots of destruction (tiles falling off walls during a firefight, for example), but also packs in familiarity for better or for worse: Armored patrol carriers careen through walls in dogged pursuit of protagonist Nathan Drake, and the market fight sequence felt awfully reminiscent of the Uncharted 2 reveal from many E3s prior. “>
Drake gets into some vehicular mayhem of his own, knocking out wooden supports from terraces that overlook alleys. The scale feels much bigger, however, based on the onstage demo tonight from Sony’s media briefing. The whole time, Drake’s accompanied by Sully, offering comic relief, moral support and hopefully a neckbrace to help prevent whiplash. And sadly, we still don’t have a release date — just that “2016” window from this past March.

Check out Sony’s 2015 E3 conference live
Sony’s setting itself up for a pretty big 2016 — with the release of the Project Morpheus virtual reality headset, a remastered Ratchet & Clank title and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End all expected next year. But does that mean there’s nothing to look forward to in the second half of 2015? Watch as Sony outlines its plan for this year and beyond at 6PM PT (9PM ET) on June 15th. You can expect the company to discuss first-party franchises (possibly including some that have yet to make their PS4 debut) as well as the upcoming roster of third-party and indie titles. Heck, there might even be a few last-gen titles that have earned the right to a “remastered” makeover. Check out the livestream below and rest assured we’ll have all the news from the event in our liveblog right here.
