The OnePlus One is discounted to $249 in flash sales this week
Today is June 1st, but so far OnePlus hasn’t announced the new product that it teased a few days ago. But if you are still interested in buying the OnePlus One handset, the news that OnePlus have cut the price of the 16GB and 64GB versions should stir more legitimate excitement than its campaign to take back the #NeverSettle hashtag.
OnePlus has announced that it will be holding a number of flash sales, with the 16GB Silk White version reduced to $249 (£179) and the 64GB Sandstone Black version down to $249 (£219). Because this is OnePlus, you should already know that taking advantage of this price cut will involve luck, perseverance and good timing. The flash sales will be held on the following days:
Daily Sale Schedule:
June 1 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)
June 2 – 2:00 GMT (10 pm EST -1 day)
June 3 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)
June 4 – 2:00 GMT (10 pm EST -1 day)
June 5 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)
June 6 – 2:00 GMT (10 pm EST -1 day)
June 7 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)
It should be noted that the sales are on a first come, first served basis with limited stock available. At the time of writing the 16GB version was sold out, with the promise of more stock arriving soon while the 64GB version was still available to order. Does the price cut raise your interest in the OnePlus One handset? Let us know in the comments.

OnePlus One to go on flash sales throughout the week, starting from $249

OnePlus’s big announcement for today is not the OnePlus 2 some of you may have wanted, but a $50 off promo on the OnePlus One.
After dropping the invite system for good (though invites will still be required for the OnePlus 2), the Chinese company is now putting the OnePlus One on sale. But, this being OnePlus, it’s not a regular promo: instead of a one limited time deal, the OnePlus One will be made available with a $50 discount in a series of daily flash sales. The first round is already underway (and stock is likely exhausted), and here’s the schedule for the entire week:
- June 1 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)
- June 2 – 2:00 GMT (10 pm EST -1 day)
- June 3 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)
- June 4 – 2:00 GMT (10 pm EST -1 day)
- June 5 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)
- June 6 – 2:00 GMT (10 pm EST -1 day)
- June 7 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)
During the flash sales, the 16GB Silk White model will cost $249, while the 64GB Sandstone Black model will be $299.
OnePlus will announce the sales on its social channels, but you can simply go to OnePlus.net at the announced times and hope for the best.
One more thing, this promo is only open for the global version of the device, so OnePlus fans in India and Southeast Asia will have to sit this one out.
As for the second generation of the OnePlus, the official timeline is still Q3 2015, or from July to September. OnePlus fans may have a long wait ahead, but the thought of a second, fashion-focused OnePlus phone should bring them some solace.

Enigmatic smartphone manufacturer, OnePlus, started teasing some interesting material last week with the tagline “Time to change”, prompting some to eagerly suspect that OnePlus was about to announce its new smartphone. Luckily, we have the truth, straight from the horse’s mouth – the horse being Carl Pei, OnePlus’ co-founder. In an interview with AusDroid, Pei confirms that the OnePlus 2 – which is to be written specifically with a numeric “2” – is still on track for a Q3 2015 release, and that the June 1st announcement is nothing to do with that device.
What we know now is that the announcement is for a number of discounts coming to OnePlus’ existing device, the OnePlus One. The announcement is still to be made, but it’s expected that the price of the 64GB Sandstone Black variant will be brought down to $298 USD and the 16GB Silk White version will come down to $248. That should help clear out the OnePlus warehouse, which OnePlus has been very careful to keep only lightly stocked due to their low margin strategy.

OnePlus schedules announcement for June 1st, plans to ‘shake up the tech industry’

OnePlus has just released a teaser on Google+, stating that it has an announcement for us on Monday, June 1st. The company says that it’s “always looking for ways to shake up the tech industry”, and that it thinks “it’s time for a change.” No more details were given about the announcement, aside from the image that you can see above. Could this be alluding to the launch of the OnePlus Two? What about the possibility of new software features? A price cut for the OnePlus One?
We’ve already gotten some hints that the OnePlus Two will make its way to consumers via an invite system sometime in Q3 (July-September) of this year, but June unfortunately doesn’t fall into that category. Of course, things may have changed since we first heard the tentative release date news, but as of right now, we can only speculate.

Additional OnePlus Two reports hint at a possible price tag of around $400, that it will be powered by a Snapdragon 810, it will run OnePlus’ own OxygenOS, and that it won’t be the only OnePlus phone to launch this year.

OnePlus teases the release of a new product on June 1
OnePlus took to its Twitter account earlier today to tease the release of an upcoming smartphone, which we believe is the much-anticipated OnePlus 2.
Unfortunately, the company doesn’t give much away in the tweet. It merely claims that it’s “always looking for ways to shake up the tech industry” and that it “thinks it’s time for a change.”
With regards to specifications, the OnePlus 2 is expected to pack a 5.5-inch Full HD display, a 2GHz quad-core Cortex-A57 processor, 2GB of RAM, an Adreno 430 GPU and a 16MP shooter.
Thankfully, we don’t have to wait too much longer to find out what the company has planned as it has scheduled an event for June 1.

OnePlus Two allegedly leaks on GeekBench, features Snapdragon 810 and 3GB of RAM
The much awaited OnePlus Two has allegedly surfaced on GeekBench benchmark results. If the device listed on GeekBench is actually the successor of the OnePlus One, then its major specifications have been leaked much before its expected launch in the third quarter of 2015.
If the GeekBench results are anything to go by, the “OnePlus ONE A2001″ will be powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor (MSM8994) clocked at 1.5 GHz, 3 GB of RAM and Android 5.1 Lollipop. The fact that even the new OnePlus device will have same RAM as its predecessor may come as a disappointment to many.
The benchmark test didn’t reveal its display or camera specifications, but it received respectable scores of 4093 for multi-core and 1256 for single-core processor.
Many readers will notice that the device in question is being called OnePlus ONE A2001 in GeekBench tests. Since the model number of the OnePlus One is A0001, it is highly likely that this handset is the OnePlus Two indeed.
As for the pricing of the OnePlus Two, OnePlue CEO Peter Lau had earlier hinted that the new flagship device may cost CNY 2,499 (roughly $400). In a separate leak, it emerged that the handset would feature a 5.5-inch QHD display, but nothing could be confirmed.

TWRP adds support for Qualcomm encryption on the OnePlus One

Owners of the OnePlus One will be happy to know that the latest build of TWRP now supports native Qualcomm encryption for the handset. In an announcement on Google+ earlier today, developer Ethan Yonker (Dees Troy) explained that Qualcomm encryption generally offers better performance than ‘stock’ Android encryption, making this a welcome addition to the custom recovery platform.
AOSP is apparently making the move towards supporting native Qualcomm encryption, likely because it supplies a significant increase in read-write speeds over AOSP’s software method. This means we’ll probably begin to see Google and other OEMs start using this type of encryption on future devices, since Qualcomm already supplies hardware to a huge amount of mobile device manufacturers.

The latest build of TWRP for the One supports the decrypting of CM11, CM12, CM12.1, as well as Oxygen OS. However, there are a few things you need to know before you can get your hands on all of the benefits. The developer explains:
If you didn’t encrypt using CM 12.0 nightly on or after 16th of January 2015, you probably aren’t getting the performance benefits of Qualcomm’s encryption. It also appears that the Oxygen OS team did not add support for Qualcomm encryption. If performance matters to you but you need to be encrypted, then I’d suggest sticking with CM.

New CyanogenMod 12.1 nightly seems to fix touchscreen issues on the OnePlus One

Reports going back as far as last year have documented a multitude of OnePlus One users having severe touchscreen issues on their mobile devices. While the company tried sending out a number of software fixes over the past few months, many users are still complaining (and for good reason) that the touchscreen issues are still present. OnePlus announced that they were working on a permanent fix for the problem over a month ago, and it looks like we’re finally getting some results.

The latest CyanogenMod 12.1 nightly that was published on May 15th seems to fix the problem, according to users commenting on various Reddit threads throughout the internet. Here’s just one example from Reddit user liberta0407:
Holy s***. I didn’t realise how bad my screen was until I installed this kernel. I could never type fast as the keyboard would press the wrong letters, wasn’t too noticeable but things just didn’t feel right..
Amazing now though! Let’s see if higher temperatures change anything…
While the problem seems to be gone completely, many users are still slightly skeptical that this nightly contains a fix for everything. The touchscreen issues supposedly intensified when the device’s temperature rose, so it looks like we’ll need to wait and see for further confirmation.
If you’re okay with flashing ROMs on your OnePlus One (which you probably are if you own the device), then head to the link below to grab the latest nightly!

Talk about a tease. OnePlus has openly communicated that it is working on a successor to the brilliant OnePlus One smartphone, the OnePlus Two, and they have previously gone on the record to say that it is going to be released in Q3 2015. Even so, that still hasn’t stopped some leaked images of what appear to be OnePlus packaging. Presumably the fear of reprimand is so great that the leaker has taken pictures only of the box’s corners with the OnePlus logo adorning them, but unfortunately it’s impossible to tell what the box is for from what we have here – it might not even be a smartphone.
Even so, presumably OnePlus is working on quite a lot behind the scenes after a strong showing last year with its maiden smartphone. There is plenty of expectation on this next device and if it’s anything shy of great value for powerful hardware, we’re likely to see some kind of outcry. In the meantime, all we can do is stare at these pictures and wonder if we’re actually looking at the OnePlus Two until the device is actually announced.
What do you think about this OnePlus packaging – is it the real deal? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
