OnePlus teaser states that something luxurious is on the way
A new OnePlus teaser was recently posted on Google+ indicting something new and luxurious is on the way. Could this be a new premium OnePlus 2 handset?
Whatever OnePlus is planning has remained a good secret thus far and the company is clearly excited for it. The teaser states “A bit of welcome luxury.” Now this could mean anything from new back covers for the OnePlus 2 all the way to a totally new device. But don’t get over excited.
The image shows a blurred picture of what appears to be some kind of leather surface. One could infer that we’re likely looking at the company’s new SwapStyle covers for the OnePlus 2 handset. Hopefully we’ll find out more shortly.

Hardware Showdown: iPhone 6s vs OnePlus 2
Perhaps you’re wondering just how good these new iPhones (iPhone 6S and iPhone 6s Plus) are that were announced earlier this week. Maybe you’re wondering how they stack up against the competition.
We all know about the age-old argument about how the iPhone has “inferior” specs to the Android flagships. We also know about how Apple is behind the times, and needs to catch up to the rest of the world. So what exactly is it about the iPhone that makes it such a heart throb for the Apple-lites around the world? Check out this graphic to see what’s under the hood between these two devices.
In this edition of the AndroidGuys Hardware Showdown, we are pitting the iPhone 6s against the HTC One M9.

OnePlus apologizes for delays in the OnePlus 2 launch
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Co-founder of OnePlus, Carl Pei, has taken to the OnePlus forum to post a heartfelt apology to OnePlus fans, partners, and really everybody, for the delays in the OnePlus 2 launch. Despite promises of an improved system and more invites, the OnePlus 2 has proven to be just as, if not more, elusive than its predecessor, the OnePlus One. OnePlus has only just started shipping out invites for the device “in meaningful quantities” this past week, which in case you’re wondering, is about a month after the device was due to start becoming available. Pei’s post starts with a simple truth: “We messed up the launch of the OnePlus 2”.
“With the OnePlus 2, we made rosy plans. We were more confident, and prepared a lot more inventory. We told our users it would be 30-50x easier to get invites, and they needn’t worry. Yet, we only began shipping in meaningful quantities this week, nearly a month after our initial targeted shipping date. You can talk all you want, but in the end, flawless execution speaks much louder than unfulfilled promises.”
“Truth is, hardware is extremely hard. There are so many things to consider, like cash flow, inventory, supply chain and production. Every step of the way, there are landmines for the uninitiated and uncareful. This is a reflection and not an excuse.”
“In fact, there are very few excuses in this world that are valid. We simply messed up again and apologize for that. We don’t plan on making further promises for future launches, and will instead focus on showing the world how we’ve improved through our actions.”
While we’re not doubting that Pei and OnePlus are truly sorry for once again stuffing up the release of their product, you can’t really say they didn’t bring it upon themselves with all their teasing and hyping of the OnePlus 2. While being honest is always a good thing, we just wonder how many more chances OnePlus’ fans are going to give them before all the goodwill is gone – there’s only so far that cheap prices will go if your brand is unable to deliver year after year. What’s the saying? Fool me once, shame on me; fool me twice…
What do you think about the delays in the OnePlus 2 launch?

OnePlus delays invites for the OnePlus 2 worldwide
Just like with the OnePlus 1, OnePlus is still using an invite system in order to buy one of their OnePlus 2’s. They originally promised that an invite would be much easier to get than before, but of course, in typical OnePlus fashion, that isn’t the case.
There was originally a delay just in North America of 2-3 weeks, but OnePlus says that delay will now be for other regions too.
The reasons for the delay are slightly odd. OnePlus list that due to the word of mouth marketing, they have more money to spend on the product. Also, because of this, it makes it easier to ship phones directly to customers. To me, that sounds more like reasons to ship them out sooner and not delay invites, but whatever.
“At OnePlus, we focus on creating the best product, and then letting it spread on its own through word of mouth. Word of mouth is extremely important for OnePlus. This allows us to have a very low marketing overhead, and distribute products direct to consumer in a more efficient manner.”
The second reason why makes much more sense. Their operating system, OxygenOS, is not fully complete and their USB Type-C cables currently suck. They don’t want to start shipping out phones and have everyone complain about them. Basically, the OnePlus 2 is clearly not ready to ship yet, and anyone who may have one is a tester, reporting back their findings.
“While early reviews have been favorable, we still think we can do much better. There is continuous work being done on OxygenOS to improve the overall product experience.” And “In addition, we’ve seen a few cases where the material of the new USB Type-C cable is not holding up to our standards. This is being resolved upstream.”
At the end of the day, if you really want a OnePlus 2, you are going to have to wait a while.

You’ll be able to get the OnePlus 2 without an invite, for an hour
After the debacle that surrounded the OnePlus One, wait, OnePlus Two, Carl Pei, the co-founder, has decided to “apologize” for it. OnePlus under-estimated the demand for the second year in a row, and took far too long to get their first production devices out to those with invites in-tow.
In a move to try and appease everyone, Carl Pei announced in a statement posted to the OnePlus forums, the co-founder stated the following:
Over the past few days, we’ve been discussing how we can make it up to our fans for the delay. One of the best ideas we have is to open sales up for an hour sometime later this month or early next, to make the entire process a bit more painless for would-be OnePlus 2 users. We will need to look into production and operations to determine when this is most feasible. We’ll keep you posted.
So if you want a OnePlus 2, but haven’t gotten an invite yet, you’ll be able to hopefully purchase one later this month. However, you’ll only have a one-hour window to do so. Remember, the servers will probably be slammed the second that the floodgates are opened, so we can only wish everyone the best of luck with this adventure.
After messing up the release of the OnePlus One, you would think that OnePlus would get it right the second time around. At this rate, maybe it’s third times the charm for the folks over at OnePlus. But maybe next time, they shouldn’t promise that invites will be “30-50x easier to get”, or maybe they should just plan accordingly and get rid of the invites altogether.
Have you been one of the lucky few to get your hands on the OnePlus 2, or are you amongst the army of frustrated users who want it but can’t have it? Drop us a line in the comments below and let us know what you think about this planned one-hour charade. In the mean time, we’ll be sure to keep everyone updated as to when this one-hour free-for-all will be, so keep your eyes peeled.

You’ll soon be able to buy the OnePlus 2 without an invite, but only for one hour

If you’ve reserved your spot to get a hold of a new OnePlus 2, odds are you haven’t gotten an invite yet. Despite announcing that it would soon start ramping up invite rollouts to patient customers a few weeks ago, OnePlus has still managed to rack up over five million reservations for the OnePlus 2, leaving many folks wondering when they’d get to purchase the new device.
In an apology recently posted on the OnePlus forums, company co-founder Carl Pei talks about how OnePlus not only messed up the One’s launch, but also the release for the 2. Pei says:
We know how it feels waiting and waiting for something you really want, while being given ETAs that go unfulfilled. We appreciate the trust and support that you have given to a relatively small and unknown company like OnePlus. We know that you are rooting for us, and want nothing more than to see us succeed. Therefore, it feels extra terrible to let you down this time around, again.

Even though the phone is finally shipping out to users, the company is still extremely behind schedule. To make up for it, OnePlus has announced that it will open up sales for the OnePlus 2 sometime later this month or early next month, for one hour only. This means that during this hour, you can purchase your very own “2016 flagship killer”, no invite required. Details are still pretty scarce, but the company says an exact date and time will be given to us sometime soon. We’ll let you know when we hear more information.

Oxygen OS 2.0.2 OTA update rolling out for the OnePlus 2

Although some may still be waiting to get their hands on the OnePlus 2, the company is wasting no time in pushing out its second minor update for the handset. A new Oxygen OS 2.0.2 OTA update is now rolling out for the phone, so keep your eye out of that notification.
The 2.0.2 update aims to fix a number of issues brought up by community feedback. There are tweaks made to the phone’s fingerprint recognition accuracy, camera preview UX improvements and stability improvements to the front facing camera. The update also fixes a bug that caused the phone’s volume to be muted at seemingly random intervals.
OnePlus states that this is an incremental rollout, so customers in different regions might not see the update notification right away. A larger, more substantial version 2.1 update is scheduled for mid-September too.

If you are still waiting to get your hands on a OnePlus 2 invite after all of the delays, don’t forget that a more “aggressive” invite rollout is planned for this coming weekend.
OxygenOS 2.0.2 rolling out today via OTA
OnePlus is rolling out update after update to make sure your OnePlus 2 handset stays stable and free of bugs. Just over a week ago the company rolled out its 2.0.1 update for OnePlus handsets. Now it’s rolling out version 2.0.2 via OTA.
Starting today OnePlus 2 owners can get their hands on a new update of OxygenOS, version 2.0.2. It will bring many stability improvements, bug fixes, an improved camera UX and better accuracy for fingerprint recognition.
OnePlus plans to release an even bigger update slated version 2.1 to OnePlus 2 owners later this month. OnePlus says this update will bring new features and useful tools.
According to OnePlus, you should be connected to Wi-Fi before installing the update. In addition, users should have at least 50% battery life prior to downloading the update. It’s rolling out in waves now, so if you haven’t receive it yet, be patient and keep a close eye on your notification tray.

OnePlus begins updating Oxygen OS to 2.0.2
OnePlus 2 owners will see the beginning of phased rollout for the newest update to Oxygen OS 2. Owners of the “2015 flagship killer” have seen several updates to their phones recently and this update will bring updates to fingerprint recognition accuracy, a fix for a bug that would unexpectedly mute the phone, stability improvements for the front facing camera and UI improvements in the camera software.
In their forum post, OnePlus is sure to point out that they’re listening to their customers complaints on forums and on social media. Oxygen OS, the rather spartan OS has been criticized for its lack of customization, options and features in comparison to the more robust CyanogenMod 12.1 that can’t yet be flashed on to the phone.
The OnePlus One originally launched with CyanogenMod 11S on board but after a rocky relationship, OnePlus began to develop their own AOSP based ROM and dumped Cyanogen for Oxygen OS. Oxygen OS is available to flash on the original flagship killer but comes standard on the OnePlus 2.
OnePlus has promised a more significant update to Oxygen OS in mid-September which will bump the OS up to 2.1. Due to OnePlus’ history with software updates we’re going to put this one in the we’ll believe it when we see it category.

Waiting for a OnePlus 2 invite? OnePlus says “aggressive invite rollout” is coming
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Have you been waiting for a OnePlus 2 invite? Well, hopefully you’ll be seeing one soon as co-founder Carl Pei today tweeted that they are getting ready to start an “aggressive invite rollout” next weekend – just to clarify, that’s not the weekend starting on the 29th; it will be the first weekend of September.
Apologies for the wait. We were set back by almost a month, but finally our aggressive invite rollout starts next weekend. Pretty stoked.
— Carl Pei (@getpeid) August 27, 2015
http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
It’s not clear whether the delay has been caused by the device itself or some website-based issues, but the main point is that the invites are coming. And it better be aggressive as there were 2 million invites registered for in the first week and who knows how many million more have been registered since then. No surprise for a device that is the self proclaimed “2016 Flagship Killer” – although the OnePlus 2 has future proofed itself with features like a USB Type-C port, we’ll have to see if that name holds up at the end of 2015 with the imminent release of two Nexus smartphones.
