More Leaked Photos Of The Nokia Normandy Surface, Shows Off Its Colourful Wardrobe
Rumours of an Android-powered Nokia phone have been simmering in the background for some time now, the most recent of which established that the so-called Nokia Normandy, a phone that was leaked by evleaks in November, was not a Windows-powered phone but instead would be running a Kindle-like proprietary Android OS. This was music to many people’s ears as there has been widespread displays of longing for the mobile king of old to use Android instead of Windows which has culminated in the company’s sale to Microsoft.
Today, evleaks has put up yet more leaked photos of the Nokia Normandy, this time with a greater colour palette, in true Nokia fashion. A few things I neglected to notice in the first Normandy leaked photo include the fact that the “home” button is ambiguous; by that I mean that Windows-powered Nokia phones always have the Windows symbol adorning the home button and this has a home key that can be more similarly compared to the HTC home key with capacitive soft keys on either side. The other thing I noticed, which is more mundane, is the fact that the phone does not appear to have a flash, though that might be because this is only a concept render (or not real).
We still don’t know if this phone will ever hit the shelves outside of Nokia’s walls as its acquisition by Microsoft is still wrapping up. But with a rumoured release in 2014, we can still hope that the stars and planets align so that some of us can finally live the fantasy of having a Nokia smartphone running Android.
Are you excited by the prospect of the Nokia Normandy being Android-powered? Let us know what you think.

Leak hints at Nokia-made Windows Phone with dual SIMs
Rumors surfaced just days ago of Nokia-built Windows Phone 8.1 devices for the developing world, and you may already be looking at one of them today… or rather, its home screen. Frequent tipster @evleaks has posted what’s reportedly a screenshot from the Moneypenny, the all-touch device from those earlier rumors. In addition to showing on-screen navigation keys, the image supports claims that the Moneypenny is the first dual-SIM Windows Phone — an important gesture toward markets like China and India, where multi-line support is a big selling point. There aren’t many other clues in picture, although the “6:30″ in the corner may allude to a Lumia 630 name. Whatever Nokia might call the handset, we wouldn’t expect it anytime soon; assuming the Moneypenny exists in the first place, we likely won’t hear anything official about it until Microsoft reveals Windows Phone 8.1.

Nokia Black update brings imaging enhancements to Lumia 1020

Nokia likes to bundle Microsoft’s Windows Phone updates with a set of its own improvements specific to the Lumia line, and the latest such version — known as the Black update — is finally making its way to the Lumia 1020 on AT&T. In addition to the standard firmware enhancements that comes as part of the “GDR3″ update to Windows Phone 8 (such as screen rotation lock, custom ringtones for specific types of notifications and the ability to close running apps in the app switcher more easily), you can also enjoy some of the same imaging features that were integrated into the Lumia 1520: the Nokia Camera, which combines the Pro Cam and Smart Cam into one fantastic app, and other unspecified performance enhancements. You’ll also get the new and improved Glance Screen also seen on the 1520, Bluetooth 4.0 LE support, better battery monitoring and other miscellaneous stability fixes. The download is hitting our devices right now, but as usual, it may take a while to roll out to everyone.

Nokia’s all-in-one Camera app expands to entire Lumia range with new beta
Devices with the PureView tag attached have not only the best shooters in Nokia’s Lumia range, but also exclusive access to the relatively new Nokia Camera app. Today, though, that latter privilege is being extended to all Lumias with the launch of the Nokia Camera beta program. Any Windows Phone 8 handset that’s been updated to Amber or above can now use the software — an amalgam of, and successor to Nokia’s Pro and Smart camera apps. As it’s not quite ready for a full store debut, you’ll need to sign up with Nokia Beta Labs at the source if you want early, and perhaps buggy access.

Nokia releases Motion Tracker beta for Lumia 1520 owners looking to get up and go
With the number of gadgets that have contributed to our sedentary lifestyles, it’s always nice to see a piece of technology bent on getting people up and moving. After teasing the app a few months back, Nokia’s finally debuting Motion Monitor — well, the beta version, at least. The app’s currently only available to Lumia 1520 owners, as the handset maker notes that its feature set needs that specific hardware to function as intended. Once installed, the app is always on in the background, tracking your movement, an act the company says will have little impact on power consumption. You’ll be able to view your activity on a timeline, by day month or year. You can also check out activity as a live tile on the lock screen.
Looking to ramp up your movement ahead of the holiday? You can try out the beta now in the source link below.

UK court relaxes ban on HTC One Mini despite Nokia patent win
Nokia’s recent legal victory over HTC, which imposed a sales ban on the latter’s One Mini in the UK, has ended up being quite short-lived. We’ve just learned from HTC that the Court of Appeals has suspended the injunction against the stunted smartphone, which also allows the firm to resume imports of the rest of the One family. The case is far from being closed, however, as HTC intends to “aggressively appeal the [patent] validity decision” that led to the One Mini ban, and could yet impact its bigger brethren. Furthermore, to avoid future courtroom dates, HTC says it’ll be engaging with its “chip suppliers on alternative solutions.” It’s almost certainly not the last we’ll hear from this ongoing skirmish, but however many haymakers Nokia throws, HTC just keeps bouncing back. Full statement from HTC after the break.
HTC is delighted that the Court of Appeals has granted a stay on the injunction against our products. We will immediately resume shipment of all of our devices into the UK, including the entire HTC One family. Similarly, our customers should feel confident in their ability to promote and sell all HTC devices. Even though we plan to aggressively appeal the validity decision of Nokia’s EP 0 998 024 patent, we will continue to work with our chip suppliers on alternative solutions to ensure minimal disruption to our business in the future.

The Nokia Normandy is rumored to be an Android device
According to a recent report by The Verge, Nokia has an Android device nearly ready for consumer release.
What’s interesting is that Nokia has forked Android, similar to how Amazon uses it, to create a customized operating system. The move gives more control over the experience, differentiating it from other Android devices, while still allowing most Android apps to work on the device.
The photo above was originally leaked back in November by @evleaks. The Normandy name is only a codename for this low-end Android device.
All of the time and effort into creating an Android variant may be for nothing, as Microsoft is likely to axe the project once its purchase of Nokia’s handset division is complete.
What do you think, would you want to use a forked version of Android on some Nokia hardware?
