Google tweets a picture of a new unknown phone

unknown google phone_____

Google is promoting Google Now and its features via Twitter, but they’re doing it on an unknown device. This of course couldn’t be an accident, so… let the speculation begin.

The phone looks kind of similar to the Nexus 5, but not quite. It’s quite beautiful if you ask us, simple and yet compact, considering it has those gorgeous thin bezels on the sides similar to LG G3. There are 3 options in our opinion. It is a new Nexus 6, Motorola Moto X+1 or an Android Silver phone. We can’t be sure at this point, but our guess is that it’s not the Moto X+1 considering that Google sold Motorola to Lenovo, so it’s unlikely they would promote a Motorola device. Which leaves us with Nexus 6 or an Android Silver phone. We can’t be sure which one considering that there’s been reports that the Nexus program will be replaced by Android Silver. We’ll also go out on a limb here and guess it’s an LG phone, it looks like something between the Nexus 5 and LG G3.

What is your guess? Do you like the phone’s look?

Purported Nexus 8 images and specs leaked

Nexus8leak

Leaked images claimed to be Google’s new Nexus 8 are making their way around the Internet. Besides showing a 7 to 8-inch device, not much else can be seen from the photos.

The Nexus 8, the follow up to last year’s Nexus 7 and possibly replacing the Nexus 10, is rumored to be unveiled at Google I/O in just a few weeks. Rumors have also suggested it will feature a 64-bit processor and be manufactured by HTC.

The purported images of the Nexus 8 come from MyDrivers.com, who claim that the device is wrapped in a protective shell to hide it from prying eyes. If it doesn’t have a case on it, that’s a pretty large bezel around the display, something that Google and nearly all manufacturers have been moving away from in recent years.

Also according to leaks along with these photos, it will come with a Qualcomm 64-bit processor, 3 GB RAM, and will run Android 4.5.

Nothing is confirmed until it’s official and hopefully we’ll see a new Nexus tablet sometime June 25 or 26.

Android 4.4.3 OTA rollout started for Nexus devices, factory images also available

Nexus 7 KitKat____

Long awaited, or better said rumored, Android 4.4.3 has started rolling out on LG Nexus devices after reaching Sprint’s Nexus 5 in April.

First in line is Asus Nexus 7 (2013) which is now receiving Andoid 4.4.3 build KTU84L. This update is just a bit shy of 74MB, so have that in mind. Other Nexus devices should follow in the coming days. Have in mind though that not everyone will get the update in the coming days, this rollout (like usual) will come in waves to owner of certain Nexus devices and it might take a while ’till it reaches your device. The update itself brings a lot of bug fixes and a refreshed Phone app.

Android 4.4.3 factory images are also available for certain Nexus devices, you can get them here.

[Download] Android 4.4.3 for the 2013 Nexus 7 captured in OTA Form

Android 4.4.3 for the 2013 Nexus 7Earlier today, we heard about the availability of Android 4.4.3 through factory images for all the Nexus devices which is great if your bootloader is unlocked, however if you just wanted the OTA update, you have so far been out of luck. Luckily, XDA member, EthanFirst, was able to capture Android 4.4.3 for the 2013 Nexus 7 captured in OTA form (i.e. build KTU84L), which can be downloaded from the forum page here. The update comes in at about 74MB so it’s much more manageable and perfect for those with locked bootloaders.

Note that the captured OTA update is only for the 2013 Nexus 7 Wi-Fi; the update for the 4G version isn’t yet available. Likewise, OTA’s for the other Nexus devices have not yet been found, so if you spot them somewhere, or you start getting the update, we’d love to hear about it in the comments. Updates for all Nexus devices should be slowly rolling out as we speak, but will vary region to region, so don’t freak out too much if you haven’t gotten it yet.

[Concept] Nexus Play Console by My Gadgetic makes me tingle all Over

Nexus Play ConsoleThe nVIDIA Shield was the first Android device to really take on the handheld gaming pedigree of the Android operating system, and while it was a very attractive and formidable device, it pales in comparison to the Nexus Play Console concept designed by My Gadgetic. Utilizing a curved touch display and motion sensitive controls, the Nexus Play looks like something that we would only dream of from the future. Check it out in its tour video:

From the looks of it, the Nexus Play Console would be best suited to the living room environment where it could be used best for games or even as a media remote. While this concept may never become reality, it’s still a tantalizing thought to wonder just how good Android gaming would become with a device like the Nexus Play Console. Now excuse me while it takes me another few hours to get over how good it looks.

Mystery tablet shows up on Google I/O website; is this the Nexus 8?

Nexus 8One of the most highly anticipated devices of 2014 is the Google Nexus 8 tablet, which is expected to supersede the oft-criticized 2013 Nexus 7. While so far only existing thanks to countless rumours, including code snippets and production leaks, the case for a Nexus 8 grows dimmer with every mention of the Android Silver line of devices replacing the Nexus line. Even so, when a mystery device pops up on the Google I/O website one month ahead of the actual event, we can’t help but wonder if this is a sneak peek of the Nexus 8.

As you can see above, there is an unmarked tablet shown being used as part of an exhibit, though which manufacturer it comes from is up for discussion. It’s notable that the device seems to be running an older version of Android, given away by the coloured Wi-Fi and battery icons, so it’s not a perfect fit for the latest and greatest from Google just yet. Still, if it’s not the Nexus 8, we’d love to know what tablet that is if somebody can identify it.

New chatter calls for death of Nexus line

Nexus 8 Chromium issue tracker

If you have been patiently waiting for Google to release the latest Nexus device, well, we have some “unofficially” sad news.  Renowned leaker @Evleaks has taken to Twitter with two separate tweets, one is sad, but one provides some light at the end of the tunnel.

Nexus 1 Nexus 2

We have been hearing this for awhile now, but with Evleaks backing this up, it might as well be true.  However, Android Silver looks to be a Nexus like program.  Silver is a program that requires a smartphone to adhere to certain requirements such as, pre-loaded apps and timely updates.  In return, Google would offer to help pay for advertising and in-store placements for devices.

Nothing is official until we hear it from Google, but coming from Evleaks, it just might be.  I know I am sad to see the “Nexus” go, but maybe this is opening new doors for more manufactures to create devices that can compete along side the big dogs.  Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Android Silver is coming in February 2015, Nexus line will cease to Exist

android silver

Late last month, we heard the rumour that the Nexus line would be ending to make way for something called the ‘Silver’ line, from the sounds of which won’t quite have the same stock Android the Nexus devices had. Today, we’ve had our second mention of such a rumour and this time it’s from none other than leak extraordinaire, @evleaks. According to a series of tweets he sent out earlier today, the Nexus line will be ending (hence, no Nexus 6) and implies that something called Android Silver will be replacing it in February 2015.

From the sounds of these corroborating rumours, it sounds increasingly likely that this Android Silver line of devices is going to be a reality come 2015, though how closely it will resemble the Nexus device ecosystem is still up in the air. One of the more interesting assertions in these tweets is the suggestion that there will be no Nexus 6; some Chromium code earlier this week appeared to suggest the existence of not only a Nexus 6 but a Nexus 8 as well. Whatever the real truth is, we’ll be finding out sooner or later; we can always hope that an announcement is made during the Android section of the Google I/O proceedings in just over a month.

Nexus 8 and Nexus 6 spotted in latest Chromium Code

Nexus 8 and Nexus 6Last week, we were alerted to the fact that a certain codename “Flounder” might refer to an upcoming Nexus device, possibly the Nexus 8. In yet another twist, fresh Chromium code has revealed not only should the Nexus 8 be included in rumour talks, but the Nexus 6 should be too as references to the Nexus 8 and Nexus 6 were spotted in a recent code review.

nexus 8 and nexus 6Based on previous rumours, the Nexus 8 will be the device to succeed the Nexus 7 tablets, sporting what is likely to be an 8-inch display. Previous rumours have pegged either ASUS or HTC to manufacture the tablet, but we’ve yet to see any concrete evidence to support either rumour.

nexus 8 and nexus 6Similarly, the Nexus 6 is expected to be this year’s successor to the Nexus 5, which is traditionally manufactured by LG and based upon LG’s latest flagship. Whether this means it will be based on the LG G3 remains to be seen, but since it appears that LG appears to be adopting a biannual flagship release like Sony, a potential Nexus 6 may eventually be based on the LG G4 which will be released later this year.

If these code references turn out to be true references to the Nexus 8 and Nexus 6, it would certainly dispel some of the rumours surrounding the alleged end to the Nexus line of device and the start of the ‘Silver’ line, at least for now. With Google I/O approaching, I think we’re all now hoping Google has something to say about all these Nexus device rumours.

What do you think about a Nexus 8 and Nexus 6 popping up in the near future? Are you waiting for either of these devices? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

New hints of Nexus 6, Nexus 8 emerge

nexus5_trio

New hints have shown up recently concerning the Nexus 6 and Nexus 8.  Now remember these are just snippets of code from Chromium Code Reviews, but they could be leading up to some soon, say Google I/O?!?

The first snippet below shows the “Nexus 8″:

Nexus 8

The second snippet below shows the “Nexus 6″:

Nexus 6

Now take this with a grain of salt because nothing is for sure until we actually see a device in the wild.  This could even be someone messing around trying to troll something up, but Google is expected to unveil the Nexus 8 this summer, alongside Android 4.5, and launch a new Nexus 6 smartphone in the fall.
