HTC cyber week deals: discounts on Nexus 9, One M9, RE camera and more

htc one m9 review aa (27 of 34)

I can already taste Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals (as well as the turkey). The internet is filling up with discount announcements (we have listed our favorites here) and now it’s HTC‘s turn. What will they have for us during America’s shopping hysteria?

best black friday dealsSee also: Black Friday 2015 – best deals (Updated!)20

The Taiwanese manufacturer has just announced its cyber week deals and they are looking quite enticing! There are discounts on a phone, tablet, camera and even accessories. Here are the details!

  • 11/25-11/27: 40% off Nexus 9 (free Logitech keyboard for first 500 32GB/LTE units sold.
  • 11/27-11/29: 40% off all accessories
  • 11/29-12/2: 60% off RE Camera (free protection pack)
  • 11/29-12/2: 40% off HTC One M9

Nexus 9-19

I must say these deals are actually quite tempting. It’s hard to find 40%-60% discounts on these types of electronics (unless you are signing a service contract).

HTC is in a bit of a tight spot after disappointing One M9 sales, so they may be trying extra hard to capitalize on this yearly event. They failed to really impress the public with that smartphone, but it happens to be a pretty decent device… especially at 40% off!

The Nexus 9 also continues to be a hell of a tablet, and that RE can take some sweet handheld videos and images. In fact, I think I might be signing up for that cam! Are you taking advantage of any of these deals? Hit the comments and let us know!

HTC’s Black Friday sale includes an Apple iPhone for One A9 trade-in

htc_logo_one_a9_rocks_TA

With the holiday season quickly approaching, manufacturers and retailers around the world have begun posting Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.

For Black Friday and Cyber Monday, HTC will be hosting a plethora of deals on its latest tech gadgets. Between November 26 and December 2, consumers can trade in a fully functional Apple iPhone for a brand new HTC One A9, the company’s latest release. If you trade-in the latest iPhone, nobody will even notice you got a phone! Consumers can also trade in a Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone during the same period for a $200 value. The company is also accepting LG G4 and G3 trade-ins for a $100 rebate.

HTC has also put many of its devices on sale. Starting November 30, the One M9 will get a 40% price cut and the Nexus 9 will also be slashed 40% of its original price. Buyers of a Nexus 9 32GB will also have the chance to win a totally free Logitech keyboard. Additionally, all accessories will go on sale for the same 40% difference. But perhaps the biggest deal is on the company’s RE action camera, which will be 60% off during the period. And if you’re one of the first 900 buyers, the deal is even sweeter. HTC has agreed to ship the first 900 buyers a bonus RE Protection Pack free of charge.

HTC is in desperation to get back on track after a poor year, and why not start this holiday season. This Black Friday and Cyber Monday will be a great time to invest in the HTC family of products. Now’s the time to save!

[Deal] UK retailer Argos discounts the white 16GB Wi-Fi model of the Nexus 9 to just £149

nexus 9

With Black Friday fast approaching, it seems many retailers are trying to steal a march on their competitors by cutting prices early on electronic goods. In the UK, it doesn’t get much better than the HTC manufactured Nexus 9 16GB (white), which can be found heavily discounted from Argos for just £149 ($226), which is basically half price.

While the white Nexus 9 16GB is down to just £149, the black version is a tad more expensive at £199($302). Both devices are available to order online or in-store and for collection or delivery to your home depending on stock availability. In certain areas, you might be lucky enough to qualify for the Fast-Track same day delivery service as well.

The promotion runs until the end of today (November 17), so there isn’t too much time to decide. Oh, and if the price still isn’t low enough for you, you’ll also receive a £10 voucher to spend on your next purchase because the Nexus 9 16GB costs more than £100. This means that theoretically, you can get the white Nexus 9 16GB for £139 (by including the voucher).

Priced at just £149, the white Nexus 9 16GB is an absolute bargain and the perfect Christmas gift, especially when you consider its specifications and that it’s running the latest version of the world’s most popular operating system, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Let us know if you plan on buying one.

[Deal] Nexus 9 is 40% off on HTC’s Hot Deals promo for a limited time

Nexus_9_LTE

If you’ve been looking to pick up a Nexus 9 on the cheap this holiday season, now might be your chance to snag one. HTC is offering a 40% discount as part of its Hot Deals program, but you’ll need to act quickly, as they’re running out of inventory fast.

The 16GB model is already sold out, but HTC still seems to have plenty of Nexus 9 stock in 32GB and 32GB LTE variants to go around, for now. The original retail price on both of those models are $479 and $599, respectively. At a 40% discount, you can get one for $287.40 and $359.40, respectively. With either one you choose, you’re getting just under a $200 discount.

Deal: HTC Nexus 9 on sale for 40% off while supplies last

HTC Nexus 9 Deal

When Google launched the HTC-made Nexus 9 last year, some were a bit surprised by the relatively high price of the tablet. Still, when considering all the tech packed inside, it was quite a fair offer. Shortly thereafter however, HTC offered up an unbeatable price for the device (50% off) though it was an extremely limited affair. Now that some time has passed – and the holidays approach – it’s time for some supplantive savings. The Nexus 9 is now being sold at 40% off at HTC’s website, while supplies last.

Pricing is as follows:

16GB WiFi: MSRP $399 on sale for $239.40.

32GB WiFi: MSRP $479 on sale for $287.40.

32GB LTE: MSRP $599 on sale for $359.40.

It should be noted that only Black and White color variants are available for the Wi-Fi model – no Sand unfortunately. For reference, the LTE variant is only produced in Black.

Nexus 9-2

As of the time of publishing, the 16GB variants (both colors) are already sold out.

This offer is limited to residents of the USA, and there is a limit of three tablets per customer. Supplies are limited, thus it would be prudent to act quickly if you’re interested. The sale itself will end on November 4th at 11:59PM Pacific Time regardless.

Brain-controlled Nexus 9 helps paralyzed users take advantage of Android

Nexus 9-19

Many of us call Swiftkey a mind-reading service, but this commonly used term is taken quite literally with the solution BrainGate has been working on. Using a Nexus 9 and other brain-reading technology, this Stanford sub-division has manged to allow users to control the Android experience with their thoughts.

But why would anyone want to do this? This is not just a silly gimmick we will enjoy in the future; it represents a whole new era for paralyzed people who many have lost (or never had) the ability to easily communicate with the world.

Eye tracking technology and tapping mechanisms have so far been the only couple viable solutions for those who are paralyzed. But the issue is that these technologies tend to be painfully slow. Not to mention tiring for the user. These inconveniences have inspired scientists to aspire for a better method, and it seems mind reading is the best form of input they can come up with. And guess what? It works!

Nexus 9-28

This pimped up Nexus 9 was first tested on patient T6 (as they call her), a brunette lady in her 50s. She suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a disease that causes progressive motor neuron damage and has her paralyzed from the neck down.

There are multiple parts to this system, though. For starters a 100-channel electrode has to be implanted into the left side of the brain, in an area responsible for movement. A neuroprosthesis device is then placed on the user, allowing the system to track brain signals.

bluetooth-brain-tablet-101In a way, you can think of this project as some kind of mental cursor. It works much like a mouse in that you can move your selector around and easily select. The team soon realized touch devices were probably the best fit for something like this, not to mention users doesn’t want a customized UI that looks like it was made in the 80s.

This is how they opted for the Nexus 9, and Android tablet that is modern, smooth, powerful and runs an open ecosystem BrainGate can customize to their liking. The popular Android tablet seems to have been the right fit, too. The service was easy to customize into the OS, and the neuroprosthetic conveniently communicates via Bluetooth.

Patient T6 was up and running in no time, Googling gardening information and taking advantage of auto completion to speed things up. Even navigating through small links was no issue, which makes this a total success.

The device is said to function at least two years without extra maintenance, and the team claims they are taking this endeavor and pushing forward with it. The plan is to proliferate it by making it accessible and adding support for other platforms.

Targeting the disabled audience is definitely a top priority, so we have to give props to BrainGate for all their hard work. All things considered, it seems like some kind of sci fi story. Tablets that can read your mind? Imagine what else we could do once this technology matures. Users may need an implant, but that is definitely worth it to someone who can’t even move and wants to stay online.

This is something that likely won’t help any of us, and doesn’t hold much consumer value, but it shows how far technology has gone, and the extent in which it can change our lives. To those won can’t enjoy the abilities we take for granted, this will mean the world. I say that is more important than us whining about specs, features and ugly designs – right?

Tablet demand is weak and shipments are falling, sources say

nexus_9_display_bottom_TA

Tablets have never been a strong point when it comes to Android, and it seems that manufactures agree with intentions to begin phasing out various tablet-IC businesses, according to Taiwanese industry sources.

Shipments of tablets running Android could be less than 160 million units in 2015, according to sources. These same sources predict that numbers could fall to as low as 120 million in 2016. While 120 million is a staggering number for a years worth of sales, it’s really nothing to write home over. After all, Android tablets are created by many different companies, all pricing their tablets at different levels, mostly at very low prices.

Many vendors are leaving the tablet-IC market due to these low prices simply because they’re seeing low profits and low demand. Interestingly, despite these findings, competition between tablet chip makers remains high, according to the report from Digitimes. There’s no official confirmation, but this could largely be due to some of the more popular Android names out there–Google’s Nexus 9, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S2, and so on.

Either way, Android tablets are seeing a rather hefty decline, and there doesn’t seem to be a plan for recovering these numbers.

Which T-Mobile phones will get Android 6.0 Marshmallow?

android 6.0 marshmallow

Wondering if your phone will get Android 6.0 Marshmallow? Be sure you are not alone, we’re all desperately waiting for that notification. Android fans are quick to jump on Google whenever they learn a new major update has become available from Google, and the lack of information can be rather frustrating. T-Mobile subscribers won’t have to look through multiple news sites and forums, though. Magenta is being awesome and revealing its entire upgrade plans for Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

T-Mobile’s dedicated Android 6.0 upgrade page is pretty straight forward. It shows a list of devices that will eventually get the new software. Devices are then labeled into 3 categories: Manufacturer Development, T-Mobile Testing and Completed. These pretty much describe the stage at which each phone can be found.

The list of devices to get Android 6.0 Marshmallow includes the following:

  • HTC One M8
  • HTC One M9
  • LG G3
  • LG G4
  • LG G Stylo
  • Nexus 5
  • Nexus 6
  • Nexus 7
  • Nexus 9
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 4
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 5
  • Samsung Galaxy Note Edge
  • Samsung Galaxy S5
  • Samsung Galaxy S6
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S2

t-mobile-logo-mwc-2015

As you can expect, very few of these devices are on the Completed stage at the time of this post’s publishing. Most of these are still under Manufacturer Development, essentially leaving Nexus devices alone in other categories. Most Nexi are under Completed, by the way; only the Nexus 6 is still undergoing network testing.

What a handy tool this is! T-Mobile users can just click on the button below to head over to the carrier’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow update page. Details will continue to be updated as the roll-out advances. Don’t we wish all manufacturers did this?!

Factory images for Android Marshmallow have been released

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

It was announced last week that Android Marshmallow for the Nexus devices would be released “next week”, and right on cue, the factory images for Android Marshmallow have been released today for your flashing convenience. Specifically, the images that are available today are for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9 and Nexus Player, just as we expected. If you’re looking for where to download them, you’ll be able to find all the images on the Google Developers website.

Just remember that if you’re going to be flashing a factory image to your device, you’ll need to back up all your essentials as it will wipe clean. If that sounds like too much effort, then you’re likely better off waiting for the OTA (over-the-air) updates that should be rolling out as we speak.

If you do take the plunge, we’d love to hear about how you’re finding it in the comments below.

Nexus Android 6.0 Marshmallow update downloads and release info

android 6.0 marshmallow

October 5th has finally arrived and that can only mean one thing for Nexus users – it is only a matter of time before those Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates begin showing up. As it goes with every large Android iteration, Nexus devices are the first in line to get the OTA update. This doesn’t necessarily mean your handset will be upgraded soon after the release date (October 5th), though.

In fact, it can take weeks for the fluffy marshmallow treat to hit your phone, depending on which one you own. That is, unless Google happens to move quicker than usual. Regardless, the update is coming and you could sit tight and wait for the notification to hit your own Nexus gadget… or you could just grab the darn file and manually install it!

nexus 5x first look aa (21 of 28)

We will provide you with the file download pages below, but keep in mind manually flashing an update to your Nexus device is not a cut-and-dry procedure. It takes some tech knowledge and a few requirements. You can use our ‘How to manually install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on a Nexus device” post if you are not feeling too comfortable about it.

Just make sure to remember that tinkering with your device may harm your device or void your warranty. Do this at your own risk, make sure to do a fair amount of research and corroborate that your device is rocking the latest possible software before making this update. If you are still up for it, keep reading and grab your required files!

Editor’s note: this list will continue to be updated as more information and files emerge, so keep it tuned to this page by bookmarking it!
