Poll Results: 64% of our readers said ‘Yes’ to getting the Motorola Nexus 6
We asked, and you have answered. We asked earlier this week if you, our readers, would be getting the Motorola Nexus 6 – we were interested to know how many people still want the device despite the device being 5.9-inches and what many people would call “too big”. Well, the results are in, and we’re pleasantly surprised to announce that 64% of the almost 400 people who partook in the survey said “Yes” to getting the Motorola-manufactured Nexus smartphone.
Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post’s poll.
Now, we should note at this point that at the end of the day, you can make whatever you want of the results of this poll, but we’d like to think that the consensus is that people still would like a Nexus device, even a slightly large one. That much is true of the Android community we have here, but whether the wider community feels the same way is a matter for another discussion. Still, we’re happy to see that the Nexus line, particularly the Nexus 6, is still going to be a popular one and that Google isn’t completely out of touch with its consumer base, though at this point, all we really want to do is pre-order the device already – October the 15th can’t come soon enough.

WSJ: 5.9-inch Nexus 6 to launch this month

Last week we reported on a leak of Nexus 6 details, which said it would have a 5.9″ QHD screen, a 3,200 mAh battery, a 13 MP camera with OIS, a 2 MP shooter on the front, fast-charging capabilities, and essentially be a stretched out Moto X (2014). We also reported on some alleged photos of the device spotted in the wild. Good news Googlers: the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has pretty much confirmed these rumors.
The WSJ says that “three people familiar with the situation” that Google expects to release the Nexus 6 this month. They also go on to talk about its screen, maker, and that the next version of Android will be released with it. Things we pretty much know at this point, but just confirming these things more than anything.
I’m still interested to see how people will accept such a massive phone. The phablet market has definitely grown, which WSJ talks about in their article, and was proven by Apple finally making the switch to a bigger screen. Nevertheless, even Samsung’s newest Note is 5.7″, but has software and a stylus to make it easier to use. It will be interesting to see what happens with the release of this device, because while Google has never had huge numbers in its Nexus sales (certainly not compared to Apple or Samsung), but they have sold out several times on their last couple of phones, and manufacturers have taken cues from Google on how to build their flagships based on Nexus phones. If nothings else, we can be excited for the release of the beautiful looking Android L.
What do you think of all this? Will the Nexus 6 sell well, or will its size just be overkill?
To check out all the photos (rendered and real) that we currently have of the Nexus 6, check out this post.

[Poll] Yes or No?: Will you get the Motorola Nexus 6
It seems like an inevitability that the Motorola Nexus 6 is going to be announced, possibly as early as this month, however it seems like the arguments for and against the device are still raging. Phablets have polarized the tech community like few other devices have in recent times with people either hating the idea of them or the converted (and growing) masses who will never go back to a ‘small’ screened device, and the 5.9-inch Nexus 6 appears no different, perhaps even more so since it is part of Google‘s vigorously worshipped Nexus line. The device definitely isn’t going to be a slouch given it’s rumoured to be powered by a Snapdragon 805 and 3GB RAM, all behind a glorious Quad HD display. Of course, this will all be secondary to the release of Android L, Google’s biggest makeover of the operating system’s user interface in a long time. The size, though, is apparently overshadowing all of this for quite a few people.
Arguments aside, what we really want to know is how many of you are actually going to get a Motorola Nexus 6 whenever it is announced in the next month or so, so leave an answer in the poll below, of if so inclined, leave a comment down below.
Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post’s poll.
Whichever side of the fence you sit on, we’d love to hear from you as we think it is a truly curious strategy from Google to release such a large device even by phablet’s standards.

WSJ: 5.9-inch Nexus 6 “Shamu” will launch this month
If there was even any shred of doubt that Google was going to release a 5.9-inch beast of a Nexus device, I’m pretty sure you can now put it to rest. According to the Wall Street Journal and its three anonymous sources, Google is indeed going to release a Motorola manufactured 5.9-inch phablet, referred to by names like Nexus 6, Nexus X or Shamu, and could do so as soon as this month. Previous rumours have placed the release in early November but this latest news gives us more confidence that we might just be seeing the device before the end of the month.
WSJ also mentions that Google intends to release an operating system, what we know as Android L, at the same time as the Nexus 6, and that the phablet device is trying to capitalize on the 24% of the market that now uses phablets, though we’re a little dubious as to where that statistic came from. Still, for those who are phablet-inclined, the Nexus 6 represents an opportunity to jump on the stock Android train with Google’s most powerful smartphone yet with a Snapdragon 805 and 3GB under the hood.
What do you think about seeing the Nexus 6 by the end of October? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Nexus 9 tablet is HTC’s “commitment” to return to market, says HTC president of North Asia Jack Tong
HTC has had a rough going for the last few years. Struggling to really hit it big. Most of their focus is on phones with devices like the HTC One line and the more recently released Desire refresh line. The company has said that their smartwatch wearable plans have been shelved for this year, so that is out. So what about tablets? The last set of tablets I can remember from HTC was the Flyer and the Jetstream. Neither of which were particularly amazing. The most recent news about a Nexus tablet though has been aimed at a Nexus 9 tablet that would be made my HTC. While nothing is 100% confirmed, HTC President of North Asia, Jack Tong, let loose a simple statement during a press briefing this morning.
Mr. Tong told the press that the Nexus 9 tablet represents “HTC’s commitment” to return to the tablet market. Focus Taiwan goes on to report that the Nexus 9 is set to be unveiled on October 16th and is expected to be announced along side Android L and the Nexus 6. This was all during a briefing that took place this morning in New York. HTC does have a “Double Exposure” event planned for later this evening where we know they will be announcing the ReCamera, the portable camera accessory.
The leaked specs for the Nexus 9 included a NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB and 32GB options, 8MP camera, Quad HD display with 2560×1600 resolution and dual front-facing BoomSound speakers. A more recent leaked image of the rear of the tablet also offers up a more matte appearing finish vs the previously thought aluminum. I could only image what a 9-inch tablet made with a an aluminum body design would have cost. I am assuming the tablet will launch with Android L and also be 64bit.

Nexus 6 vs Nexus 5 size comparison, as well as other major flagship devices
The Nexus 6 is now an inevitable release in the future, with only the release date in question. However, the main concern for the device isn’t when it’s going to release, but how big is it really. We know it has a 5.9-inch display, which for many sounds far too big, but how does that shape up to some of the devices we already know, particularly the Nexus 5, it’s soon-to-be predecessor? Thanks to Canoopsy, we have a great video comparing the sizes of different flagship devices to the Nexus 6, in particular a Nexus 6 vs Nexus 5 size comparison which really shows the Nexus 6′s size difference. Check it out below:
While it was always going to be much bigger than the Nexus 5, some of the other comparisons of the Nexus 6 show some interesting results. In particular, I was surprised to see that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is almost exactly the same size as the Nexus 6 – with a 5.7-inch display, it clearly makes less efficient use of its front side real-estate with the Nexus 6 employing some slim bezels to help keep the size down. There’s not all that much to be surprised about here – it’s going to be a big phone – even if some of the comparisons are surprising, but it’s nice that we can see them compared as accurately as possible.

Enjoy these Nexus 6 renders while we wait for the real thing to be announced
With each passing day, it feels like we get to know the Nexus 6 a little better. Codenamed the Motorola Shamu, Google‘s rumoured next smartphone device is set to shake things up in the Nexus category by shipping a 5.9-inch monster of a phablet sometime in mid-October, which has so far gotten varied reactions. Regardless, the fact that the device is likely going to resemble its spiritual brother in the Moto X 2014 means that it is a very familiar device and means Nexus 6 renders that have been springing up, like the one above, are looking really quite accurate. These renders are courtesy of Sir Dave Kover who’s added the Nexus inscription on the back of the device that we have all been waiting to see.
While it’s not certain that the device will end up looking exactly like these renders, it’s a pretty good bet that overall the device will look like this – I’m a fan of the white myself. Behind that Quad HD, 5.9-inch display is a Snapdragon 805, 3GB RAM and a 13MP OIS camera, which all sounds very snazzy, but has us questioning whether the Nexus 6 is going to be as cheap as we’ve come to expect from a Nexus device. All conjecture of course, and we’ll be patiently waiting to find out some solid details whenever Google decides to divulge them

Motorola Nexus 6 spotted in the wild

We recently published a gallery of photos for the upcoming Motorola Nexus 6; however, all of these were renders because there has not been a quality photo of the actual device itself. That is, until today. The team over at Android Police has received some photos from an anonymous tipster that claim to show someone using the Nexus 6 out in public.
There is a view from both the left and right side of the device. These pictures give us a good idea of how large this 5.9″ behemoth will be, and it does not appear to be that large. For such a large phone, the user seems to be handling it relatively easily with just one hand. Since there is nothing to compare the phone to, this does not mean that the Nexus 6 will be small as the user could just have very large hands. However, it does give us hope that Motorola has been able to squeeze a 5.9″ display into a reasonable form factor. Although the majority of the phone is obscured by a hand or the case, we can still compare some features to what we have seen in leaks. The headphone jack appears in the middle of the phone and the navigation buttons appear smaller which both line up with the earlier photos and renders. The power and volume buttons are also located at the middle of the phone which shows just how large this phone will be. The front-facing speakers are also visible in both photos. While there is no way to verify the device, all signs say that you are looking at the next Nexus 6 from Motorola. Hopefully we will see the entire phone sometime within the next month or so.
