AT&T Hints at Imminent Nexus 6 Release
The Nexus is approaching! AT&Ts website has leaked news about the new device, notably that it will be available directly through the carrier and supposedly priced at $50 on-contract.
The information takes some looking for to be able to see, though. When you look at the page for the LG G3 Vigor, in the sidebar, there sits the Motorola Nexus 6. Don’t get too excited: the link will only take you to other Motorola phones already on the network.
The photo in the box is also the LG Vista, which will hopefully change after the release date tomorrow. *Fingers Crossed.* Hopefully the price doesn’t change, though. If you want to enter into a contract with the death star, it’d be better to enter into it with an extra $150 in your pocket, compared to the $200 price point for most flagships.

Android L Screenshot from Chromium Suggests ‘Lollipop’ is the Next Name in Android
What is Android L going to be folks? We certainly have been tossing around the L dessert names for the past few months, and it is still quite up in the air on what Google is going to name it. We might finally have our answer though, as a new screenshot surfaced from the Chromium tracker suggesting the Lollipop is the winner in the Android L name game.
Google loves to place whatever icon of Android you are currently running your device in your status bar to indicate that you’re on debugging mode. The zoomed in illustration shows our beloved Andy in lollipop form, so I guess we can bump the lollipop name to the top of the list. Let us know your thoughts about this screenshot, and if you still think it will be another name.

New Android ad campaign hints at upcoming Nexus devices

The inexorable announcement of the next round of Nexus devices and Android L is drawing ever nearer, as Google has released a slew of new ads promoting Android.
This video above shows an animated version of the rumored Nexus 6. It seems to look like a Moto X (2014) and is obviously quite large. Google is seemingly saying that it doesn’t matter if it’s large, hence “be together. not the same.”
It’s hard to notice, but it’s possible that this video shows the Nexus 9, held by one of the people on the left.
This video doesn’t show any devices explicitly, but it’s the third ad in this series.
The trend in the past few years has been for Google to announce the next Nexus and version of Android in October, so we can say pretty firmly that an announcement is imminent. Whether it’s October 15 (tomorrow) or later in the month can’t be for sure, though rumors seem to be pointing to the former.
We also have a gallery of the Nexus 6 here, and earlier this morning we reported on another render from the supposedly retired (though I’m not complaining) @evleaks here.
Are you excited for this eminent announcement? I definitely am!

Forbes: Nexus 6, Nexus 9, and Android L due October 15

October should just be dubbed “Nexus month”, as even if Google doesn’t announce a new Nexus at the beginning of the month, the internet blows up with rumors, reports, leaks, and other news about them anyways, and once they do announce it, the rest of the month (or next few months) is spent looking at and analyzing any and everything Google announced.
Anyways, Forbes has reported that “a source close to Google” has confirmed that the Nexus 6, Nexus 9, and Android L will be announced tomorrow via a blog post. The writer said originally Google was going to make an event out of it, eventually opting for a web announcement because they’re still fine tuning Android L.
The Nexus 9 will be available for pre-order on October 17th, and available to purchase on November 3rd, they say this is subject to change. The 16 GB variant will cost $399, while a 32 GB LTE version will cost $499, and apparently they will have expandable memory, which I’m sure will be praised by Android enthusiasts.
He also confirms specs: 8.9-inch 2048×1440 display, 480 grams, a 64-bit dual-core processor, an Nvidia Kepler GPU and a 8MP rear-facing camera and 3MP front-facing camera. It will have a “brushed-aluminum” frame rather than an all metal design. It will also have HTC’s boomsound and front-facing speakers.
There will also be an “origami” case, which apparently can be folded however you’d like in order to stand up or prop up the device.
We reported on this date and various specs a few times before.
Earlier today we’ve had a few reports about the Nexus 6 as well, here and a report about the newest android campaign here.
I’m starting to be convinced that this is happening. At this point if there isn’t an announcement tomorrow, I’ll be disappointed… So, while we feel confident about all this, take it all with a grain of salt.
Are you ready for the next round of Nexus devices and Android?

Second source claims Google to launch Nexus 9 running Android L on October 15th
An unnamed source described as “close” to Google indicates the company plans to officially announce the Nexus 9 tablet and a new Nexus smartphone on Wednesday, October 15th. The source says Google will make the announcement via a blog post instead of doing it via a big, splashy event. The source indicates the reason for the lack of a “big reveal” was to give programmers more time to iron out some final tweaks in Android L. It is worth noting though that Apple has an event scheduled for Thursday when it is thought updates to their tablet lineup will be revealed, so Google may be trying to get a jump on the press and make sure consumers have something to compare any new iPad devices against.
The new Nexus 9 tablet, built by HTC, will be available for pre-orders starting on the 17th of October with a projected delivery date of November 3rd. At least two versions are expected, a 16GB WiFi-only version that will retail for $399 and a 32GB LTE version selling for $499. According to the source, the new tablet will have an 8.9-inch display running at 2048 x 1440 resolution, it will have a 64-bit dual-core processor, an NVIDIA Kepler graphics chip, and will feature HTC’s dual front-facing boom sound speakers similar to the HTC One (M8).
The October 15th announcement date, if it occurs, is pretty close to the projected date reported last month and coincides with leaked information that surfaced a few days ago.

Nexus 6 render leaks from familiar source

What you see here is a Nexus 6 render from once-prolific Twitter source @evleaks. It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything along these lines from Mr. Blass (who has retired) but we’ll definitely take this one today.

Looking every bit the device we desire, we see a device that closely resembles a large Moto X (2014) with Android L icons and navigation. Although the bottom area is a little wonky we like what we’re seeing in the overall picture.
What a depressing few days. I remember 1 thing that used to make me feel better, tho. No mark in deference to Nexus. pic.twitter.com/76zhSfu8rJ
— Evan Blass (@evleaks) October 14, 2014
As to why there’s no big watermark splashed across the image, it’s out of respect for the Nexus brand.
How do you feel about a nearly 6-inch smartphone with the Nexus brand? Are you considering something this large for yourself or are you content with a 4.5-inch to 5-inch experience?

First official Nexus 6 press render leaked courtesy of @evleaks
While the Nexus 6 has been caught in the wild, rendered by eager journalists, and shown dwarfing the LG G3 in size, famed leaker @evleaks has temporarily come out of retirement to bring us the first press render of the Nexus 6 from Motorola themselves. It looks exactly as we’ve heard it described in the past, which isn’t a disappointment by any means, the Nexus 6 is shaping up to be an excellent device both in specs and design.
Considering @evleaks has a pretty solid track record and the photo matches the rumored design, its safe to say we just caught our first official glimpse of the hotly anticipated Nexus 6. The rumored specs feature a 5.9-inch QUD display, a Snapdragon 805 supplemented by an Adreno 420 GPU, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a substantial 3,300mAh battery. With any luck the included 12-megapixel camera (with 4K support) will be better than past Nexus offerings. Hit the comments with your thoughts on the upcoming device.

Google releases animated ads showing off the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9
If you happened to watch last night’s Walking Dead episode online, you might have noticed a few new ads from Google. Yup, they quietly released these because they like having fun with us.
There are three 30 second ads in all with the first one revealing the Nexus 6 with Android L navigation buttons and a new ringtone, while the second one shows the Nexus 9. You will also notice the “Be Together, Not The Same” theme here implying that the Nexus 6 is very big and might not be for everyone. The third ad continues this theme, but doesn’t reveal any of the devices.
These ads (see below) were uploaded to YouTube by Android Authority, but if you saw them live, they were clickable. They took you to a page that isn’t live at the moment.
We could very well see one or both of these devices officially announced tomorrow. Are you guys excited yet?

Leaked Google Nexus 6 ad makes amusing light of the phone’s rumoured size
Everyone in the Android community can almost smell the new Nexus 6 about to burst forth into existence, and despite a large number of people denouncing the device’s alleged large size, there also appear to be a lot of people who are still going to be getting it. Not one to be without a sense of humour, a leaked Google Nexus 6 ad is doing the rounds on the internet and appears to be an almost perfect, hilarious take on what the Nexus 6 represents to the Android and smartphone community. Take a look at the ad which was (thankfully) recorded:
The ad ends with the motto “Android: Be Together, Not The Same”, a nice fitting way to say that Google is trying to cater to everyone within the community but also trying to innovate and unite the community. The video also shows a link which currently goes to a Google hosted page that doesn’t exist yet, but presumably will go live once the Nexus 6 (and presumably Android L) are officially announced. It’s hard to say whether the rumoured 5.9-inch Nexus device is going to be as popular as last year’s more normally sized Nexus 5, but among the Android community at least, few can complain about a good price on a Quad HD display with stock Android L.

How much will the Nexus 6 cost? Paul O’Brien thinks £450 is a good number
We’re quickly bearing down on the suspected release date of at least the Nexus 9, but some of us are infinitely more fixated on the release of Google‘s new smartphone, the Nexus 6. Whether that happens on October 15th or towards the end of the month, one of the biggest questions that is going around, that isn’t to do with its size, is how much will the Nexus 6 cost. At 5.9-inches and a Quad HD display, a similar price to the Nexus 5 would almost be too good to be true, but Paul O’Brien is getting his opinion out there early.
Nexus 6 (or whatever it ends up being called) should come in under £450, but don’t expect ultra cheap.
— Paul O’Brien (@PaulOBrien) October 9, 2014
O’Brien, who is best known as founder of MoDaCo, postulates that the new Nexus will cost a very pretty £450, or less, but probably close to that. For reference, the soon-to-be outgoing Nexus 5 sells for £299, which is significantly less than the alleged price of the Nexus 6 and much more than most Nexus owners have ever paid. If there is any solace to be taken from this news, it’s that the Moto X 2014 costs around £420, which does mean you’re getting a Quad HD screen for a steal. Still, this is all just conjecture so we’ll have to wait for Google’s official word to see if any of this is true.
