Motorola’s march toward mobility
We owe a lot to Motorola and its team of inventors and engineers. The company made breakthroughs in portable radio and brought us one of the first-ever cellphones. It launched the flip phone, the clamshell and the wildly popular RAZR V3. There have been some ups and downs along the way, and the company’s endured more than its share of corporate hand-changing, but with its Moto series and Nexus 6, it’s now back amongst the smartphone elite. In this week’s Rewind, we take a look at some of the milestones in Motorola’s quest for portable communicators.

Nexus 6 Hits Sprint Web Sales and Stores on November 14th
Google is certainly doing a great job at keeping the Nexus hype alive with limited inventory releases through the Play Store. Equally important is the talks of launch dates and availability via carrier channels. We all know the nexus 6 will be landing on many of the major players in wireless and that is something that a lot of people are waiting for due to the devices more premium featured set price tag. Sprint has made an announcement today that the Nexus 6 will be available in stores and via Sprint Business Sales, Web Sales and Telesales beginning November 14th.
“Nexus 6 sets the stage for exciting new developments in smartphones with a stunning 6-inch Quad HD display, perfect for movies, videos and surfing the Web,” said Doug Kaufman, director-Device Strategy, Sprint. “With pricing plans like the Sprint Family Share Pack, families can take advantage of all the features of Nexus 6 without worrying about expensive rate plans or running out of data each month.”
Sprint is pushing the Sprint Easy Pay option in the press release with the device aiming at $0 down and 24 monthly payments of $29. They also offer up the full retail pricing at $696 excluding taxes and such.

Nexus 6 Pre-Orders for AT&T Go Live November 12th
‘Tis the season for the Nexus 6. Sprint has plans to push the device out to Stores and through their web and telesales channels November 14th, while AT&T is looking to go another route. The conglomerate that is AT&T has announced the they will start taking pre-orders for the Motorola Nexus 6 starting Wednesday November 12th.
“The Nexus 6 with Android 5.0 Lollipop is the first Nexus device to join AT&T’s leading device portfolio,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president – Mobile Devices, AT&T. “The power of the nation’s most reliable network, covering more than 300 million Americans, paired with the collective innovation from Google and Motorola make this device a winning combination for AT&T customers.”
Price wise you are looking at the standard pricing option on a device that rolls in with this price tag through AT&T. On the Next 24 you are looking at $22.77 per-month, Next 18 will be $28.416 a month Next 12 will be $34.15 per-month. If you are old school and go contract, then you will shell out $249.99 with another 2-year agreement. If your pockets are deep, or your are just dedicated to no-contract and no payments, then AT&T will put one in your hands for $682.99.
It isn’t all that surprising that the off contract price is more than it is through the Play Store. We have seen that in the past with previous devices. With the limited amount of devices that get released through the Play Store each week, the small premium from AT&T might be a sacrifice some will be willing to make, especially if they planned on using AT&T anyways.
AT&T will be adding in another offer though. If you do get yourself a Nexus 6 you will get $50 off the purchase of a Moto 360, Moto Hint or Moto Sliver II.

Kogan suggests Nexus 6 release date in Australia will be close to Dec 5th
The state of Nexus 6 availability in the US hasn’t improved much over the last few weeks, but unfortunately the rest of the world, namely the 12 countries who were recently added to the support page, is still in the dark about when the device will even be able to be pre-ordered. Thankfully, we might be one step closer to figuring out the Nexus 6 release date in Australia at least after Australian online retailer, Kogan, put up its listings for the latest Nexus device. What’s most interesting about the listing is that the Nexus 6 is said to start shipping on December 5th, which hopefully means its official release in Australia, and other supported countries, will be around that date.
Obviously this is a little further away than expected, but it does make sense based on previous rumours. If you are interested in purchasing from Kogan, the Nexus 6 32GB will set you back $859 AUD and the 64GB version is $919 AUD, both of which are $10 less than the price listed on the Google Play Store and include free metropolitan shipping in Australia. Not a bad deal if you’re hoping to reserve your Nexus 6 before the inevitable scramble for devices when they officially go up on the Google Play Store.
What do you think about the Nexus 6 release date in Australia being close to December 5th? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Want the Nexus 6 from Sprint? Carrier only offering one configuration
The Nexus 6 in all of its color and storage options is available from Google Play. No matter what carrier you have, Google Play’s Nexus 6 will be supported with an appropriate SIM card. Carriers in the United States, though, will be selling the device themselves. Prospective buyers just won’t see the same amount of configurations on a carrier-by-carrier basis. Sprint clarified today that it would only offer the Midnight Blue model with 32GB of storage. Want 16GB? Or do you want Cloud White? You cannot have either one if purchasing through Sprint.
So, again, the Play Store will offer exactly what you want because carriers decide to make odd choices.

Leaked T-Mobile document suggests that Nexus 6 will only be available at 300 stores nationwide

The Google Nexus 6 has been one of the hardest devices to obtain this year. Although it hasn’t been officially released, pre-orders commenced on October 29th through the Google Play Store and have since sold out… not once, but twice. Not only did the Google Play Store run out of inventory, the Motorola online store sold out as well.
There has been a glimmer of hope for some Nexus die-hards through T-Mobile (myself included). An earlier leaked document suggested that the magenta carrier would launch the Nexus 6 on November 12th. This has since been confirmed through calls we made to T-Mobile.
Unfortunately, it seems that while they will indeed launch the Nexus 6 this Wednesday, not all stores will get the device. The document (which can be seen below) came courtesy of the XDA forums. It shows that over 1800 stores nationwide will get a demo unit of the Nexus 6, whereas only 300 stores will actually have stock to sell.
It is unknown if this document is legitimate, but we will definitely find out soon.

Nexus 6 Inventory Expected to suffer in the Coming Months
Google has definitely had problems with inventory issues before (remember the Nexus 4?), and it seems this year won’t be any different. As the holiday season nears, Google and Motorola are still sold out of the new flagship, despite the $300 increase in price from last year’s model. As soon as Google receives new inventory on the Play Store, it immediately sells out.
Unfortunately, if you were thinking your Nexus 6 would come from your carrier, guess again. T-Mobile will get the device in stores November 12th, but Inventory will be limited. Demo devices will be aplenty though, so if you’re second-guessing the screen size, you can try it out. Other carriers will most likely not be receiving the device for a few weeks.
So, what’s the gameplan? Will you be waiting for you carrier to have Motorola’s Nexus 6 in stock, or are you going to try to catch Google on a good day? Is the Nexus 6 not for you? Leave a comment below and let us know what you plan to do.

Nexus 6 gets ready to drop in 12 more countries, should be coming before Christmas
While the saga of limited availability continues in the US, the rest of the world is wondering when they’ll even be able to pre-order the Nexus 6. As it turns out, it could be quite soon. Google has added an additional 12 countries to join the US on the “Country availability” page on their support website which includes the likes of Australia, the UK, and Sweden. If you happen to reside in one of these countries, you should be able to see the Nexus 6 page on Google Play now which should simply have “Coming Soon” emblazoned below the localized pricing of the Nexus 6 – when this will change to allow you to actually buy the phone is anyone’s guess.
When we reached out to Google about the availability of the devices (here I used Australia as an example), they were careful not to give a specific timeline for when the devices would become available, however did specify that the devices would be available before Christmas. Whether this means devices could be received by Christmas remains to be seen, but I wouldn’t hold my breath in case more supply issues hit these other markets as well.
The full list of countries includes:
- Australia
- Belgium
- Canada
- France
- Germany
- India
- Italy
- Japan
- Netherlands
- Spain
- Sweden
- United Kingdom

Google’s Nexus 6 prepping for release in more countries
It is a familiar refrain from around the globe whenever Google releases something new, whether it be software or hardware, the frustration with the U.S.-centric release schedules. The new Nexus 6 smartphone is no exception as early adopters are just now trying to get their orders in for the device in the U.S. while buyers in other markets merely look on. Hopefully that wait won’t be long as Google has announced availability for several countries and though no dates are indicated, it appears the Nexus 6 will be coming soon.
According to Google, the additional countries where the Nexus 6 will be available include:
- Australia
- Belgium
- Canada
- France
- Germany
- India
- Italy
- Japan
- Netherlands
- Spain
- Sweden
- United Kingdom
Once the devices are available, there is no telling how long the stock will last, but it is some hope for buyers around the globe who want the Nexus 6 in their pockets as quickly as possible.
