Red Nexus 5 Spotted in Retail Packaging

red-nexus5-1

The red Nexus 5 first posed for the camera last week, but we weren’t quite sure if it was the real thing, or someone’s crafty Photoshop work. Today we get a new image of the Nexus 5 in its passion color. Only this time it shows up in the retail packaging, leading everyone to believe this red Nexus 5 actually exists.

One key bit of information the boys over at Android Police pointed out, is the fact that the same IMEI numbers show up in the photos. When looking up the number, the number is attached to an old Samsung phone, which seems a bit interesting, but the same number is on all of them, and who would go the extra mile to pull a prank off that extreme? Possibly these red Nexus 5 phones will show up just in time for Valentine’s Day. Seems to be a gimmick other companies have partaken in, but most likely not. These images were spotted in an LG warehouse in the UK, so they might not even reach the states. Let us know your thoughts about it.

Nexus 5 might soon come in red

Currently, you can get the Nexus 5 in any color you want, so long as it’s black… or white. Those two options may have satisfied Henry Ford, but the modern consumer sometimes wants something a little racier. Twitter’s @artyomstar appears to have found a consignment of the smartphone clad in hot-rod red, something that’s sure to raise the hearts of anyone hoping to abandon monochrome devices. We can’t be certain, of course, but the images look a lot more real than the other leaks we’ve been sent, so let’s hope that LG and Google don’t make us wait too much longer before spilling the beans.

Red Nexus 5 may soon become a reality

A few days ago, rumors surfaced with a bogus rendition of colorful Nexus 5 variants. While it seemed as though the rumors were squashed, some more photos leaked from Twitter regarding the Nexus 5 in bright red.

Twitter user Skazki (@artyomstar) leaked the images at around 8AM this morning, and they actually seem legitimate. Not only did the front and back images on the box leak, but the bar code on the bottom also specifies the color.

Don’t get us wrong – this could absolutely be a hoax. But if it is, somebody went to great lengths to trick the heck out of everybody. Here’s to hoping they’re officially announced soon!

Is the Nexus Line Ending in 2015?

nexus-line-ending

Eldar Murtazin is one of those guys that seems to have a knack in finding out information before everyone else. We would say he has about a 70 to 80 percent rating for being spot on, and now he has dropped a doozy about our precious Nexus phones.

Murtazin just tweeted that information out, and I quickly straightened up and belted out, “WHAT?!” before my fingers started typing out this post. To me it seems like a pretty good idea, as well as true.

When Google started this Google Play Edition line,  a lot of us thought they were being extremely kind by throwing on stock Android on our more popular devices, without us having to suffer through the task of rooting those devices. But then Google started throwing curveballs at us, when they announced Google Play Editions of random devices, like the LG G Pad 8.3, Sony Z Ultra, and the Moto G. Maybe this is a preview of things to come?

Then we have the Moto X. Some of us speculated that the Moto X line would maybe phase out the Nexus line, but having the Google Play Edition line sounds a little more intelligent, and it will allow the manufactures battle it out for best Google Play device. That’s just what we are thinking over here, but let us know what you guys think about this. True? Or complete BS?

Red Nexus 5 photographed, potentially ready to release in Vietnam by next Month

red nexus 5A few days ago we got a brief (and suspicious) look at a Nexus 5 page on the Google Play Store that appeared to suggest that Google was readying quite a large colour palette for their flagship smartphone. While a lot of discussion has gone on regarding the integrity of this source, a much more concrete source has cropped up in the last few hours; the above photo shows a red Nexus 5 in all its glory, allegedly a sample of a larger roll-out in Vietnam in late February or early March.

The report also states that Vietnam will also be receiving a yellow version of the Nexus 6 alongside the red variant, but didn’t state what other regions would be receiving coloured versions. I assume this could be some kind of colour coordination to match the country’s flag, but the report also could be fake. Whatever the truth it, it is all very overwhelming that all these reports of coloured Nexus 5s are coming in left, right and centre. What do you think is the truth: are there going to be coloured variants of the Nexus 5 coming out soon? Let us know what you think.

Quick Video Shows 8 Different Color Options for the Nexus 5

nexus-5-multiple-colors

Looks like Google might take the Moto X approach to the Nexus 5, by giving customers the option to choose their colors in a Moto Maker type manner. A quick video showed up today, showing someone’s computer screen where they could pick between 8 different colors for the Nexus 5. It is pretty similar to the Moto Maker, but you only get to choose the back plate color and that is about it.

So possibly we might be getting an announcement from Google about this, if this video is legit. It is super quick, but check it out, and let us know your thoughts about it.

Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 Cases on Sale for 25% Off in the Play Store

Nexus 5 Nexus 7 casesGoogle is pretty notorious for offering up discounts on games and apps, but I think this is the first time that I have seen them discount their cases, sleeves and covers. Currently you can save 25% off three accessories for your Nexus 7 tablet and two for your Nexus 5 smartphone.

On the Nexus 5 side of things –

Nexus 5 Nexus 7 Accessory SaleI am sure you could start all kinds of rumors about this discount sale going on. Like that the next Nexus is on the way soon, Google has too many accessories that people aren’t buying and is trying to clear inventory or that they have new stuff coming in and want to clear out some higher-priced stock before announcing lower priced goodies.

No matter the ‘real’ reason for the sale, as they don’t mention it on the Play Store, it does mean you can get something cool directly from Google for your Google device. Hit the individual links above or just head to the Promo Page.

Feedback Loop: computer names, Google Hangout alternatives, cord-cutting and more

Welcome to Feedback Loop, a weekly roundup of the most interesting discussions happening within the Engadget community. There’s so much technology to talk about and so little time to enjoy it, but you have a lot of great ideas and opinions that need to be shared! Join us every Saturday as we highlight some of the most interesting discussions that happened during the past week.

This week, the Engadget community shared how and what they name their devices, switching from Android to iOS (wait, what?), SMS alternatives to the Google Hangouts app, styluses for winter use and whether or not it’s possible to finally cut the cord. Click past the break and read what fellow Engadget users like you have to say.

What do you name your computer?

Futurama characters, Dharma Initiative stations, birds and Latin words. What do all these things have in common? They’re themes Engadget readers said they use when Kris asked how people name their devices. Do you name your computers, phones and tablets? If so, post your names in our forums!

Alternatives to Google Hangouts on Nexus 5?

DaBash doesn’t want to rely on Google Hangouts as the primary communications application on his Nexus 5, and is looking for SMS app recommendations. “I just got my Nexus 5 and I did not like the idea of having my hangout conversations being mixed with my text messages.” Do you have any recommendations? Tell DaBash what your favorite messaging app is.

Documenting the move from Android to iOS

Engadget product research team member frankspin documented his move from Android to iOS and things went a lot better than expected. “As a previous Android user I often saw a lot of Android users exclaim about how coming to Android was such a liberating experience from the grasp of Apple’s walled garden. For the last few years I believed this, but over time I started to open up to what Apple and iOS have to offer.” Share your own experiences when switching mobile platforms.

Stylus recommendations for thick gloves

Winter is here. And that’s why dtanders is looking for advice on styluses that would work while using thick gloves. For those of you who have to deal with the strange concept of winter (hey, we’re pretty spoiled in California), what would you recommend?

Now can we cut the cord?

Each week, it seems new services and hardware are announced that make it easier for consumers to watch television and consume video content how they choose. That’s why johncolucci asked if you can really cut the cord yet. Have you successfully shed the shackles of Big Cable? Tell us how you cut the cord.

That’s all this week! Do you want to talk about your favorite gadget or have a burning question about technology? Register for an Engadget account today, visit the Engadget forums and start a new discussion!
