Motorola Nexus 6 spotted in the wild

nexus6_androidpolice

We recently published a gallery of photos for the upcoming Motorola Nexus 6; however, all of these were renders because there has not been a quality photo of the actual device itself. That is, until today. The team over at Android Police has received some photos from an anonymous tipster that claim to show someone using the Nexus 6 out in public.

There is a view from both the left and right side of the device. These pictures give us a good idea of how large this 5.9″ behemoth will be, and it does not appear to be that large. For such a large phone, the user seems to be handling it relatively easily with just one hand. Since there is nothing to compare the phone to, this does not mean that the Nexus 6 will be small as the user could just have very large hands. However, it does give us hope that Motorola has been able to squeeze a 5.9″ display into a reasonable form factor. Although the majority of the phone is obscured by a hand or the case, we can still compare some features to what we have seen in leaks. The headphone jack appears in the middle of the phone and the navigation buttons appear smaller which both line up with the earlier photos and renders. The power and volume buttons are also located at the middle of the phone which shows just how large this phone will be. The front-facing speakers are also visible in both photos. While there is no way to verify the device, all signs say that you are looking at the next Nexus 6 from Motorola. Hopefully we will see the entire phone sometime within the next month or so.

What do you think of these new pictures of the Nexus 6? Tell us in the comments!

Mystery Moto devices makes the LG G3 look tiny in comparison, but is it the Nexus 6?

Yesterday image renderings of what the Motorola Nexus device would look like surfaced. They showed us an early look at the front and back of what is supposedly code-named “Shamu”.  Hardware information came along with the renders that indicated a 5.92-inch QHD resolution screen with a resolution of 2560×1440. Other details listed out a Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, 13MP camera and 32GB of internal storage.  There is now a new image floating around the internet that places a mystery Motorola device, face down, along side a LG G3. It is quite a bit larger. Check it out.

Motorla Nexus X Nexus 6 Shamu

This would seemingly confirm the screen size of a new Motorola device as we know the screen on the LG G3 is 5.5-inches. Zooming into the label you don’t get any information at all as all the fields are marked with xxxxx. The only thing we do know for sure is that it is designed by Motorola. It says so on the label. Looking closely at the camera in the center though you can see the dual LED flashes on either side of the ring. This was also present on the renders that 9to5Google showcased yesterday. There is no doubt that this is an early prototype of the device, but just which device is it.

The original poster wants you to believe that it is the next Nexus device. Hence the wonderful labeling that was done with some paper and a piece of tape. That doesn’t detract from the fact that we know there is something on the way though. It is very likely that this is the Nexus 6, but that is me just going off of the last renders depicting a similar device that was previously claimed as the next Nexus. That could be terribly wrong as well. There have been talks of Google working with Verizon on a device, there have been talks of a Moto S phablet style device and even talks that Google will be doing a double Nexus device this year. Yes, two sizes to choose from. Kind of like Apple just did with the iPhone.

Everything is up in the air and we are all just dropping speculations left and right. One could always use a little more wood on the fire, right? What are your thoughts? Is this the Nexus 6? Nexus X? Moto S? Or perhaps it is the Moto Droid MAXX. My guess doesn’t involve the last two choices.

Verizon: Moto X and Moto Maker due tomorrow, September 26

Moto-X_N000051_1024-x-640

Verizon on Thursday confirmed the upcoming availability of the Moto X and the custom design tool known as Moto Maker. How soon, you ask? How about tomorrow, September 26. Indeed, you can head to a Verizon store and pick up the 16GB model in Black for $99 with a two-year service agreement. Or, you can save the gas and hassle and order one online, too.

For a limited time, Verizon is offering the White and Bamboo combination for $99.99 with the same requisite contract. If you’re looking for a fully customized version of either model you can design yours at Moto Maker for $99 (16GB) and $149 (32GB).

A separate promotion sees Verizon giving customers who activate or upgrade to a new smartphone on a MORE Everything plans some extra data. Anyone who snags a plan with at least 1GB of data will get an extra 1GB of bonus data per month – for up to two years.

Thar she blows: the Motorola Shamu, Nexus 6, Nexus X shows its face (and rear)

Motorola ShamuWhile we’re still arguing over what the next Nexus smartphone is going to be called, 9to5Google has managed to get their hands on a photo of the Motorola manufactured device and posted it for all to see. Codenamed the Motorola Shamu and allegedly called the Nexus 6 or Nexus X, the device in this rumour appears to be a 5.9-inch monster, much like what we have been expecting. It may look suspiciously like the new Moto X from the front and back, rear power button and all, but the positioning of the lock and volume buttons give away a lot about the device’s intentions. Being such a big device, Motorola and Google look determined to make one-handed operation an option, if not a priority – we’ll see if there are any software add-ins to make this further obvious.

The Shamu/Nexus 6/Nexus X is expected to make an appearance alongside the HTC-manufactured Nexus 9 tablet either on October 15th or 16th, which will be followed by the formal release of Android L on November 1st. We’re still unsure if this device is going to replace the Nexus 5, or if previous rumours are correct and Google will release a refreshed Nexus 5 along side it, but we don’t have long now to wait and see what Google has in store for us.

What do you think about the appearance of the Motorola Shamu/Nexus 6/Nexus X? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Report: New Nexus devices in October, Android L due in November

nexus x

Just a few days ago, WSJ reported that Google and HTC are working on a tablet together, reportedly Nexus 9, and Paul O’Brien also tweeted that it will be released on October 16. Now, we have some more confirmation from Android Authority on the tablet, and also they are talking about the rumored ‘Moto Nexus‘ as well, which will be the first ever Android L smartphone.

They agree with Paul on the release date of the Nexus 9, and also they further agree that Google will introduce Android L and a new Nexus hardware during mid October as well, but the final version of Android L won’t be officially available until November 1st. Well, that’s some confusion there. The source is unclear about it, because we don’t know whether it is the date when the new Nexus device will be sold or shipped. However, I am sure we will have some confirmation in near future.

One thing we know for sure is that Google got a few projects up their sleeves, and sooner or later, the cat will be out of the bag. What are you thoughts? Let us know in the comment box below.

Motorola launches the Moto X (2nd Gen) in India for INR 31,999

Motorola has raised the curtains for its latest flagship device, the Moto X (2014) in India today. The smartphone will be available exclusively via e-retailer Flipkart from midnight.

New Moto X

The device featuring high-end specs is priced at INR 31,999 and comes in Bamboo, Black and leather back options for Indian customers. The new Moto X runs Android 4.4 KitKat, features a 5.2-inch Full HD screen, a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB RAM, 13MP rear camera with dual LED ring flash, 4K video recording, 2MP front shooter, 2,300 mAh battery and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac.

However, Motorola will only be selling the 16GB variant of the smartphone, which is an odd move since there is no expandable storage options available on the device.

Motorola’s new Droid Turbo says hello in leaked photos

Don’t fret, Verizon fans: Motorola’s long-running line of Droid devices hasn’t petered out just yet. It’s hard to miss the swirling rumors of an impending Big Red Moto X launch, but a new image obtained by HelloMotoHK lends a little credence to rumors of another Moto handset barreling down the ol’ product pipeline. It’s (supposedly) the Droid Turbo, yet another Verizon exclusive… and one that might have an awfully beefy slew of components lodged inside the curvaceous, textured shell you see above. Yes, fine, a spy shot of a phone’s back might not get you riled up, but some reports suggest it’ll pair a Quad HD display with a 2.65GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset and a 20-megapixel camera. HelloMoto’s report doesn’t do much to bear out all that speculation, though it does mention that the screen’ll be 5.2-inches diagonal and that the Turbo will have a front-facing speaker. For what it’s worth, Verizon has been getting in on the teasing lately, too: The official DroidLanding Twitter account cryptically noted that faster battery charging is a “bigger deal” a few weeks back, so we just may be on the cusp of another big announcement.

Leaked photo shows Moto S to be massive

moto-s-01

A new leak shows off the Moto S in all its glory, and boy it’s big. Some say the Moto S is actually the next Nexus (codenamed Shamu) whilst others think it’ll be part of the Android Silver program, but the leak shows the rear panel lined up against the new Moto G and Moto X 2014 models.

At 5.9-inches, the Moto S is huge and the Moto X looks tiny in comparison even though it’s still got a 5.2-inch screen.

The Moto S is very safely in the phablet category, but is 5.9-inches too big?
