Second source claims Google to launch Nexus 9 running Android L on October 15th

think_with_google_alleged_nexus_9_post_shutterstock

An unnamed source described as “close” to Google indicates the company plans to officially announce the Nexus 9 tablet and a new Nexus smartphone on Wednesday, October 15th. The source says Google will make the announcement via a blog post instead of doing it via a big, splashy event. The source indicates the reason for the lack of a “big reveal” was to give programmers more time to iron out some final tweaks in Android L. It is worth noting though that Apple has an event scheduled for Thursday when it is thought updates to their tablet lineup will be revealed, so Google may be trying to get a jump on the press and make sure consumers have something to compare any new iPad devices against.

The new Nexus 9 tablet, built by HTC, will be available for pre-orders starting on the 17th of October with a projected delivery date of November 3rd. At least two versions are expected, a 16GB WiFi-only version that will retail for $399 and a 32GB LTE version selling for $499. According to the source, the new tablet will have an 8.9-inch display running at 2048 x 1440 resolution, it will have a 64-bit dual-core processor, an NVIDIA Kepler graphics chip, and will feature HTC’s dual front-facing boom sound speakers similar to the HTC One (M8).

The October 15th announcement date, if it occurs, is pretty close to the projected date reported last month and coincides with leaked information that surfaced a few days ago.

Nexus 6 render leaks from familiar source

nexus6_cropped_leak

What you see here is a Nexus 6 render from once-prolific Twitter source @evleaks. It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything along these lines from Mr. Blass (who has retired) but we’ll definitely take this one today.

nexus_6_leak_render

Looking every bit the device we desire, we see a device that closely resembles a large Moto X (2014) with Android L icons and navigation. Although the bottom area is a little wonky we like what we’re seeing in the overall picture.

As to why there’s no big watermark splashed across the image, it’s out of respect for the Nexus brand.

How do you feel about a nearly 6-inch smartphone with the Nexus brand? Are you considering something this large for yourself or are you content with a 4.5-inch to 5-inch experience?

Verizon to launch Motorola Droid Turbo at an event on October 28th

Verizon_DROID_Turbo_Event_2014

Just a few days ago, Verizon “accidentally” tweeted an image of the upcoming Motorola Droid Turbo, and then quickly pulled that image. It wasn’t the first time the Turbo had leaked, with a user manual making the rounds earlier in the week. Today we have the final piece of the puzzle as Verizon has put a countdown clock on their site, redirected from DroidDoes.com. The countdown shows a phone identical to what we’ve already seen and ends on October 28th, the same day as an upcoming Verizon event (the flyer for which features the same image as the countdown clock), so it is safe to assume that the Turbo will launch that day.

The Droid Turbo’s alleged specifications include a 5.2-inch QHD display, a Snapdragon 805, 3GB of RAM and a huge 3,900 mAh battery. The Turbo is also rumored to have a 21-megapixel camera and will feature Qi wireless charging and Motorola’s turbo charging technology. Its shaping up to be a monster of a device, do any of our readers plan on upgrading to the Turbo? Let us know in the comments below!

First official Nexus 6 press render leaked courtesy of @evleaks

nexus-6

While the Nexus 6 has been caught in the wild, rendered by eager journalists, and shown dwarfing the LG G3 in size, famed leaker @evleaks has temporarily come out of retirement to bring us the first press render of the Nexus 6 from Motorola themselves. It looks exactly as we’ve heard it described in the past, which isn’t a disappointment by any means, the Nexus 6 is shaping up to be an excellent device both in specs and design.

Considering @evleaks has a pretty solid track record and the photo matches the rumored design, its safe to say we just caught our first official glimpse of the hotly anticipated Nexus 6. The rumored specs feature a 5.9-inch QUD display, a Snapdragon 805 supplemented by an Adreno 420 GPU, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a substantial 3,300mAh battery. With any luck the included 12-megapixel camera (with 4K support) will be better than past Nexus offerings. Hit the comments with your thoughts on the upcoming device.

Verizon’s announcing its new Droid on October 28th

It’s been leaked to hell and back lately, but no matter – Verizon’s finally ready to pull back the curtain on its latest Droid smartphone at an event in New York on October 28. That device is the Droid Turbo, a seemingly super-charged version of this year’s Moto X that reportedly wraps an even speedier Snapdragon 805 chipset into a more traditional (some would say more heinous looking) Droid body. No need to lament its looks too much, though: while it keeps the same 5.2-inch screen as the X, Motorola stuck a 21-megapixel rear camera into the Turbo’s slimmish chassis, and rumor has it that there’s a staggeringly capacious 3,900mAh battery lurking in there to boot. If you’ve thumbed through our Moto X review, you’ll know that those two issues were the only things keeping Moto’s newest flagship from smartphone greatness, so forgive us for getting just a little excited to see the Turbo in person. After all, latest year’s Droid lineup were just slight variations on the original Moto X theme — this time Motorola seems to have dramatically upgraded the X formula.

Verizon Droid (Turbo) expected on October 28

droid_turbo_placeholder_hero_verizon

Verizon has set up a countdown on its Droid Does website which should result in the arrival of the Droid Turbo. Slated to expire at noon on October 28, the website reveals little about the actual device itself. That’s quite alright, however, as much of what we need to know has already been leaked.

Built by Motorola, the Droid Turbo figures to offer users a 5.2-inch ultra high resolution display, 3GB RAM, a 21-megapixel rear camera, and other top-tier stuff. Battery level is said to be approaching 4000mAh and we’re expecting a pretty stripped down Android experience. And, keeping with its namesake, the Turbo is reported to feature the Turbo Charger in the box; super quick charging ensures you’re never low on juice.

In the meanwhile, feel free to register on the Verizon website for more details, or as they call it, “activation notification”.

Motorola Droid Turbo could boast 3900mAh battery

droid-turbo-battery

Droid Turbo leaks all around! We have definitely written a lot of articles regarding details of the upcoming Droid Turbo. Just yesterday we reported on leaked shots of the manual for the device, confirming quite a few things we had reported on before, including a 5.2″ screen, Moto’s new pack of features from the new Moto X, and seemingly close-to-stock Android. Now we have another bit of news that may make this the longest-lasting, quickest charging phone to date.

Above you see a picture from TaoBao, a Chinese online retailer, confirming the battery that will be in the Droid Turbo. If it is indeed going to be the EQ40, DROIDLIFE says that will be a whopping 3,900 mAh. Last year’s Droid Maxx was 3,500, and that lasted almost two full days, so this should get you through two days (if not even longer). That coupled with this turbo-charging technology that Verizon has teased would allow you to never have to worry about running out of juice.

Honestly, if all these rumors turn out to be true, and it has the same features as Moto X, and near-stock Android, I may have to jump ship to go over to Verizon…

Anyone else excited to see what this phone has in store?

Accidentally deliberate Motorola Droid Turbo image Tweeted

There are a number of amazing phones heading to various carriers by the end of the year. Verizon is picking up a couple that will give loyal brand lovers something to jump up and down about. Verizon and Motorola are in cahoots to resurrect the icon DROID line any day now with the Motorola DROID Turbo. The user manual was leaked just the other day and we got a pretty good look at the device and some of the specs. Like a 5.2 QHD display, 21MP camera, Qi wireless charging and dual noise canceling mics. Another leak confirmed a whopping 3,900 mAh battery,  3GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 805 processor too. Thanks to an accidentally deliberate* tweet from the @DroidLanding twitter account, we get another look at the device in their signature red color variant.

Motorola Droid Turbo

It is, very red. all over. I am not much for all red devices myself, but I know a number of you already cleaning up the drool on your device’s screen right now. With so many details make their way to the web I would image that an official announcement is close at hand. Verizon did just announce the Xperia Z3v yesterday with a scheduled launch date of October 23rd, I am wondering if between that and the Galaxy Note 4 they are holding this back for a bit. Droid-Life sources are saying October 30th as the lunch date. Regardless, this holiday season is going to be packed with choices for Verizon customers.

*I like the ‘accidentally deliberate’ reference simply because it’s hard to image that any company would accidentally push out images via a social channel unless it was all part of the marketing plan. It is brilliant though. Think off all that follow @DroidLanding and caught a look before it was pulled down. I bet some of you are here right now looking at it again. Well played Verizon.

Motorola tweets and deletes image of red Droid Turbo

droid_turbo_red_leaked

Oops. Motorola’s Droid Landing twitter account on Friday jumped the gun in regards to the upcoming Droid Turbo. The picture you see here was tweeted without any accompanying text or details and then promptly deleted. Indeed, this looks to be the Verizon red take on the big, bad superphone.

With no expected launch date to share just yet we’re left to drool over the rumored specifications. If you’re like us then you can’t wait to get your hands on the 5.2-inch ultra high definition display, 21-megapixel rear camera, and 3900mAh battery!

[Poll] Yes or No?: Will you get the Motorola Nexus 6

Will you get the Motorola Nexus 6It seems like an inevitability that the Motorola Nexus 6 is going to be announced, possibly as early as this month, however it seems like the arguments for and against the device are still raging. Phablets have polarized the tech community like few other devices have in recent times with people either hating the idea of them or the converted (and growing) masses who will never go back to a ‘small’ screened device, and the 5.9-inch Nexus 6 appears no different, perhaps even more so since it is part of Google‘s vigorously worshipped Nexus line. The device definitely isn’t going to be a slouch given it’s rumoured to be powered by a Snapdragon 805 and 3GB RAM, all behind a glorious Quad HD display. Of course, this will all be secondary to the release of Android L, Google’s biggest makeover of the operating system’s user interface in a long time. The size, though, is apparently overshadowing all of this for quite a few people.

Arguments aside, what we really want to know is how many of you are actually going to get a Motorola Nexus 6 whenever it is announced in the next month or so, so leave an answer in the poll below, of if so inclined, leave a comment down below.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post’s poll.

Whichever side of the fence you sit on, we’d love to hear from you as we think it is a truly curious strategy from Google to release such a large device even by phablet’s standards.
