There really wasn’t much left to be told, except for its official release date and pricing. This morning Motorola made the announcement via their blog and now we know when and just how much.
The Motorola DROID Turbo will be landing in Verizon stores and online on October 30th. It will be offered in two storage options, a 32GB and a 64GB. The 32GB variant will be offered in Metallic Black, Metallic REd or Ballistic Nylon where as the 64GB variant will only be offered in Ballistic Nylon. Price wise, the 32GB will set you back $199 on a two-year contract and the 64GB model will cost you $249. If you go for the Edge program, Verizon shows the 32GB at $599.99 for $24.99 a month. No specifics on the 64 GB Variant.

Verizon and Motorola officially launch the DROID Turbo
As expected, at a press event this morning Verizon and Motorola have officially launched the DROID Turbo, a Motorola manufactured device exclusively available through Verizon. With all of the rumors and leaks, there may not be much in the way of surprises about the specifications for this newest addition to the DROID line of devices, but we’ll touch on them after the break.
Motorola and Verizon determined that a key way to differentiate the new device was through battery life and recharging capabilities. A large battery that provides plenty of useful life is not a new concept to Motorola and the DROID line as the DROID MAXX still reigns supreme for LTE smartphones. The DROID Turbo adds some quick charging features thanks to a special Turbo Charger, which is included with the device. This gives the DROID Turbo the ability to add enough juice in just 15 minutes of charging to power the device for up to 8 hours. A full charge of the 3,900mAh battery is rated to last 48 hours once all the battery optimizations kick in.
The big, fast-charging battery is needed to power the 5.2-inch quad-HD screen that achieves 565ppi. The DROID Turbo comes packed with a Snapdragon 805 processor clocked up to 2.7GHz and 3GB of RAM. This should keep things running smoothly. Two models will be available, one with 32GB of internal storage and one with 64GB of internal storage. Motorola has also included a 21MP camera capable of shooting 4K video and a 2MP front-facing camera. The DROID Turbo will come with Android 4.4 KitKat installed, bu Android 5.0 Lollipop is expected to be available “in coming months.”
Verizon will start taking pre-orders for the DROID Turbo at 1:00 ET today on their web site. However, you shouldn’t have to wait long to get your hands on the actual device as in-store availability is scheduled for this Thursday, October 30th. Customers will have a choice of Metallic Black, Metallic Red, and Ballistic Nylon for colors in addition to the choice of internal memory size, although the 64GB version will only be available in Ballistic Nylon. With a 2-year contract, the 32GB DROID Turbo will cost $199.99 while the 64GB version will run $249.99 with a two-year contract.

This is Verizon’s Droid Turbo: 5.2-inch Quad HD display, up to 48 hours of battery life
What’s black and Kevlar and screams “turbo”? Okay, yes, a modded BMW M3. But also Verizon’s latest smartphone, the Droid Turbo by Motorola. Regular Engadget readers assuredly know a lot about this phone already: it’s got a 5.2-inch Quad HD AMOLED display covered in Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3, a Kevlar back, and an incredibly long battery life. Verizon’s touting “up to” 48 hours of power and a quick charge feature that nets “up to 8 hours of use” from a 15-minute charge (using a specific charging cable included with the phone, naturally). The Droid Turbo’s not all charge and no oomph: a Snapdragon 805 processor is the heart of the Turbo (a 2.7GHz quad-core CPU) and an Adreno 420 CPU (running at 600MHz) handles graphics on that fancy Quad HD screen. 3GB of RAM handles memory, making all that processor power worth a damn. Should processor speeds not excite you, perhaps megapixel counts will? The camera out back on the Droid Turbo is a whopping 21-megapixels. And yes, relax, your selfies are safe: there’s a front-facing camera with 2MP resolution and 1080p video capability.
In terms of the rest of the specs, the Droid Turbo is keeping up with the Joneses with Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11 in all the flavors (a/g/b/n/ac), NFC, and microUSB for connectivity. Verizon’s XLTE comes inside the Droid Turbo as well — surprise! Honestly, it’s just a little frustrating to see this thing debut so shortly after the Moto X first hit the scene. After all, it basically improves on just about everything we didn’t dig about Moto’s recent flagship, so if you just bought one you might want to keep the receipt handy. In fact, all of the voice and gesture ability in Motorola’s Moto X is also in the Droid Turbo. How about that?!
Okay, now the elephant in the room: what’s powering that “up to” 48 hours of battery life? A 3,900 mAH battery is nestled behind that tough exterior, sitting next to 32GB of internal storage (64GB optionally if you wanna get crazy). It’s available October 30th; Droid Turbo starts at $199 (with a two-year contract) and jumps to $249 when you add the extra storage.
So, how does the phone feel? Is it any good? These are all good questions that we don’t have answers for just yet, but we’ll have a hands-on for you shortly. Hang tight!

Motorola UK begins selling the Moto 360, discounts the Moto X for one day only
Nigh on a month later than originally planned, Motorola’s Moto 360 smartwatch has officially arrived in the UK today (although O2 apparently let a few units slip out at the beginning of the month). The limited stock that’s available is up for grabs through Motorola directly, with online sales live right now. The £200 Android Wear watch is particularly notable for its sexy circular design, and to mark its arrival in the UK, Motorola’s also knocking £60 off the starting price of its Moto X flagship smartphone for the next 24 hours. Usually £420, the base model is being discounted to £360 for one day only, with the price increasing from there if you add extra storage or one of the more ornate finishes, like leather or wood, using the online Moto Maker customisation tool.

Did the Nexus 6 already visit the FCC?
A new posting on reddit linked to an FCC filing that many people think is the new Nexus 6. Opinions are not unanimous though as there appear to be some discrepancies between the information in the FCC filing and information that Motorola and Google have published about the Nexus 6.
In favor of the device being the Nexus 6 are the dimensions shown in an antenna diagram that are very close to what has been advertised. The FCC filing lists the device as 83 x 159.4 mm in size while the Nexus 6 product page lists the Nexus 6 as 82.98 x 159.26 mm.
On the other hand, there are quite a few differences in wireless bands listed on the FCC report compared to the published bands that Google is advertising. Google lists LTE bands 3 and 29, while neither of these show in the FCC filing. However, LTE band 3 is not used in the U.S. and band 29 is a downlink only band that the FCC may not be concerned with. The FCC filing also fails to list GSM bands 900 and 1800 that Googles lists the device as having, nor do WCDMA bands 1 and 8. Finally, Google and Motorola indicate the Nexus 6 has Bluetooth 4.1 while the FCC listing indicates the device has Bluetooth 4.0.
Whatever the device is in the FCC reports, it has been approved and should be showing up soon. The Nexus 6 is scheduled to go on pre-order in the U.S. starting on October 29th, so the timing does seem to be consistent.
On a slightly related note, UK tech writer Paul O’Brien tweeted earlier this week that U.K. buyers interested in the Nexus 6 will have to wait until at least December to get the device.

Nexus 6 vs Nexus 5: A civil war within Google

Ever since the announcement of the Nexus 6, we’ve been dying to know how it will stack up against other devices. While we won’t know for sure until we have our hands on one, we can at least look at the various specs. Lets take a look at the Nexus 6 vs the Nexus 5!
Motorola Nexus 6 vs LG Nexus 5
Display
Let’s start with the Display. The Nexus 6 has a gorgeous display with a pixel density of 493 ppi, while the Nexus 5 isn’t bad either with a 445 ppi. However, considering the Nexus 6 is a full inch bigger than the Nexus 5, the Nexus 6 is a clear winner in the display quality. Motorola’s device has an AMOLED screen while LG’s offering has an IPS screen, so that’s a matter of preference. Is also worth noting that the Nexus 5 is still a regular phone with its size, whereas the Nexus 6 places itself well into the “phablet” category.
Battery
With the battery, the Nexus 6 has another clear advantage with a 3,220 mAh battery, while the Nexus 5 has a 2,300 mAh battery. While the Nexus 6 has much more pixels to push, the Nexus 6 site still claims you can get 24 hours of talk time, with the Nexus 5 getting 17.
Processing
When it comes to the processors, they come pretty close. The Nexus 5 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.26 GHz, while Motorola’s offering has a Snapdragon 805 clocked at 2.7 GHz. While the Nexus 5 technically has a year old processor, it is no slouch. Technically, the Nexus 6 wins, but when it comes down to it they are pretty close. However, the Nexus 6 has 3 GB of RAM while the Nexus 5 has 2 GB. This should give the Nexus 6 more multi-tasking power.
Camera
The Nexus 6 has a better camera, with a 13 MP rear shooter and a 2 MP front shooter, while the Nexus 5 has a 8MP and 1.3 MP. The Nexus 6 also has the ability to shoot video in 4K, while the Nexus 5 is behind at 1080p.
Storage
The Nexus 5 starts at 16 GB of memory, while the Nexus 6 starts at 32 GB. Neither have expandable memory.
All in all, both devices have great specs. Google truly has done well in designing both of these Even the Nexus 5 which came out last year holds its ground well, but the Nexus 6 has been updated immensely, so in terms of specs the Nexus 6 is the clear winner.
However there are two things to consider: the Nexus 6 is quite large with its 5.96″ screen. One will have to get used to the size of the Nexus 6. Otherwise, some people are simply not going to want a phone that large and will want to get the Nexus 5. The other thing to consider is the price. What makes the Nexus 5 so great is all the great specs you get for the price: $349 off contract. The Nexus 6, however, will be $649 off contract. While the Nexus 6 will be available through carriers for cheaper, you’ll likely need to lock into a 2-year contract to get that price, which to many is not preferable.
So, when it comes to specs, the Nexus 6 is a winner. When it comes to size preference and price, the Nexus 5 is the winner. Which do you think is the better device? If you’re planning on getting a Nexus this year, which will you get?

Exclusive: Droid Turbo images give us a non-rendered look at the device
Like anyone that is interested in the Droid Trurbo has any doubt in their mind on what it looks like or what the specs are going to be. That doesn’t mean you don’t want to see what ever image you can of the device. Especially ones that clearly show it does carry 3GBs of RAM, has 32GB internal storage and has that remarkable QHD 2560 x 1440 5.2-inch display. As luck would have it, a reliable source was able to send us a few images of the device. Not the best images in the world, but it is better than a render.

Even though the images aren’t perfect, they look pretty good. We have all seem much worse in the past. While our source was able to share these images with us, they were unable do much more. Although we have seen confirmation from documentation that offers up details to a 21MP camera, 3900 mAh battery and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor.
With the new Motorola Nexus 6 coming in with a much larger screen, many have pegged the Droid Turbo as the device that the new Nexus should have been. Regardless of your thoughts on that subject, the Droid Turbo is sure to be the targeted device on Verizon for many Nexus 5 owners who want just a bit more but can’t pull the trigger to the 6-inch screen. We will get the full skinny from Verizon on October 28th when they make their official announcement.
