Motorola is rewarding dedicated fans with invites to its Moto Makers fan club
Many of us have a soft spot for a certain company, following it through both thick and thin. Sometimes the company you are loyal to recognizes your dedication and does something to reward you for your efforts. This is what Motorola aims to do with its newly minted Moto Maker program: to reward its die-hard fans loyalty.
Dedicated Motorola fans invited to take part in the Moto Maker program will be able to join behind-the-scenes Google Hangouts as well as test drive new products before release. Another perk will be getting invited to attend Motorola’s product launches and press events.
If eligible, you’ll receive an email (image above) asking you to take part. As yet there are no official instructions on how to become a member of the Moto Maker program as it has not been officially unveiled. You don’t need to be the proverbial rocket scientist though to figure out that spreading the word about Motorola’s products would aid your cause exponentially. Motorola has set up Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter pages as well as a website (although it’s allegedly for sale at the moment) to promote the Moto Maker program, although not much is happening at present. I’m sure we won’t have long to wait until Motorola make it all official.

Get a free Motorola Hint with off-contract Moto X purchase through April 14th
Motorola unveiled the Moto Hint last year as an option for someone that wanted a completely hands-free way to interact with their phone. It’s one of the most advanced Bluetooth headsets on the market, which mostly justifies its high $150 price tag.
If you’ve been eyeing the Hint but haven’t wanted to drop that much cash on a cell phone accessory, you might be interested the newest deal Motorola is offering. From now until the 14th, if you buy an off-contract Moto X, they’ll toss in a Hint, completely free. The only catch is that it does have to be an off-contract device, so you won’t be able to use a carrier upgrade to qualify. But with the new Moto X starting at just $499, it’s not a bad deal.
Hit the link if you want to get started on customizing a Moto X with a matching headset.

Render appears to show what could be the Moto 360 successor
It’s been just over a year since Motorola announced the original Motorola Moto 360 smartwatch and we’re getting a little jittery waiting for its follow-up. A few rumours have popped up here and there to suggest what the Moto 360 successor might look like, and today’s offering gives us a render which appears to depict quite […]

Something smelt fishy: ‘Smelt’ is the alleged codename for Moto 360 successor
Android Wear looks like it is most definitely here to stay and although its first generation had a few teething issues, we’re excited to see what the second generation of devices brings to the table. Chief among these is the Moto 360 successor which will have big shoes to fill coming after one of the most popular […]

Motorola’s “Smelt” Could be 360’s Successor
Motorola’s Moto 360 was a revolutionary smartwatch when it was released last year, combining beautiful aesthetics with a powerful set of features above and below the hood. However, since its competitors have gotten their games up, Motorola’s flagship smartwatch has become just another face in the crowd. Hopefully, its successor, codenamed smelt, will bring Motorola back to the forefront of smartwatch design and capabilities.
While we’ve already seen hints of the new Moto 360 due to a leaked image by Lenovo’s CEO, we didn’t really know much more than that until a device called Smelt running Android 5.1 on a 360 x 360 screen pinged a developer’s console in Illinois. Since the original Moto 360’s codename was Minnow, and both minnows and smelts are fish, this theory seems probable. Until it gets closer to release date, we won’t know exactly what “Smelt” is, but stay tuned to TalkAndroid to find out more news as it comes out.

The first generation Moto X, Moto G, and Moto E phones will all upgrade directly to Android 5.1
Waiting for that Lollipop update on your first generation Moto X, Moto E, or Moto G? Well, bad news is that the standard Lollipop 5.0 update isn’t happening. The good news? Motorola’s skipping 5.0 completely and updating those three devices to Android 5.1. It makes sense for Motorola to do this instead of wasting a ton of effort getting the phones upgraded to an already obsolete OS.
While Motorola is definitely working on making those updates happen, no word on when it’ll happen. Hopefully sooner, rather than later, but we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.

Moto X (2013), Moto E (2014), and Moto G with LTE going straight to Android 5.1 Lollipop
After seeing the Moto X (2014) get Android Lollipop within days of it being released to manufacturers, first gen Moto users have been waiting for their stake in the sweet goodness that is Lollipop. However, with the Moto X (2013) in particular, it has been difficult to get Android 5.0.2 released due to the unique architecture of the X8 computing system that runs the phone. It doesn’t help that Android 5.0 has its fair share of issues to begin with.
In light of this, David Schuster, the Senior Director of Software Product Management for Motorola, announced on Google+ that the Moto X (2013), Moto E (2014), and Moto G with LTE will be skipping Android 5.0.2 in favor of Android 5.1.
While this may concern some as it means longer before people with these devices see Lollipop, this should be encouraging news. What this means is when these users do get Lollipop, it’ll be the best possible version they can receive. The RAM management issues that were heard throughout the web with 5.0.2 won’t exist, along with some other small enhancements and features introduced with Android 5.1.
How do you feel about this news? Happy, or frustrated?

First Gen Moto X, E and G with LTE will be updated straight to Android 5.1 Lollipop

If you own either the Moto X (1st Gen.), Moto E (1st Gen.) or Moto G with LTE (1st Gen.), you may be wondering where your Android 5.0 Lollipop update is. According to Motorola’s senior director of software product management, your devices won’t get the update, but they will get something better. In a Google+ post from earlier today, Moto’s David Schuster explained that given the improvements Google made in the most recent version of Android, Motorola is skipping the 5.0 update altogether and will update each device straight to Android 5.1.
From David Schuster:
As some of you might know, we’ve been testing Lollipop 5.0.2 upgrades on Moto X (1st Gen), Moto E (1st Gen) and Moto G with 4G LTE (1st Gen) in several regions. In parallel we have started testing Lollipop 5.1 which was recently released by Google. Given the improvements in Lollipop 5.1, we have decided to move all efforts to upgrade these devices directly from KitKat to Lollipop 5.1.
Schuster didn’t mention when the updates would begin rolling out to these devices, but we’re now sure that the company is testing it.
We know many of you may be irritated that your devices have yet to receive this big update, but this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about companies holding off until everything was perfect for users. Most notably, HTC was one of the first companies to delay the Android 5.0 update to the One M7 and M8 due to a number of issues in the first release of Lollipop. It may be difficult to wait, but this is definitely for the best.
If we get word that Android 5.1 is beginning to roll out to these devices, we’ll be sure to let you know right away.
