Droid Turbo will soon be available in three new limited edition metallic colors

droidcolorfinal_1024-x-640

Although Motorola’s Droid Turbo was announced over 6 months ago, it’s still a perfectly capable piece of hardware. If you’d like to get your hands on one sometime soon, you’re in luck. Starting Thursday, May 28th, the Droid Turbo will be available from Verizon in Gray Ballistic Nylon with three new color options – Metallic Blue Accents, Metallic Orange Accents and Metallic Violet Accents. The new color variants will be available both online and in-store through Verizon Edge for $20.83 per month for 24 months, or for $499.99 if you’d like to go the off-contract route. The phone will also be available for $99 when you sign a two-year contract.

If you need a refresher, the Turbo has a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560, a 2.7GHz Snapdragon 805 processor, a big 3900mAh battery, 3GB of RAM and a 21MP rear camera. The device still runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat, but Verizon says the update to Android 5.1 Lollipop will be here “soon”. The phone also features Advanced Calling 1.0, which means call quality to other Verizon customers will be crystal clear.

Anybody out there interested in these new color options?

Deal: Moto G and Moto 360 together for just $299 — but only until 4PM EST!

moto-g-moto-360-deal

Motorola is no stranger when it comes to special deals and promos, though most of the time these offers center around their flagship Moto X. Not this time. From now until just 4PM EST (1PM PST), Motorola is offering up the Moto G (2nd gen) and the Moto 360 as a combo deal for just $299 — a savings of $129!

It’s only a matter of time before a 2nd-gen Moto 360 surfaces, and the Moto G (2015) probably isn’t too terribly behind, but for those that aren’t concerned about necessarily having the “latest and greatest”, this is still a heck of deal.

Moto E (1st Gen) getting Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OTA

Moto_E_2015_Main_TA

Motorola’s Moto E (2nd Gen) recently got the update to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and now it looks like it’s the first generation’s turn.

This update is massive, bringing with it a whole slew of changes. Notifications now appear on the lockscreen and are ranked by type who who sent them, priority and privacy notifications can be set for each application, high priority notifications, such as Amber alerts or Emergency notifications, will briefly pop up over an app your currently using, and you can customize how notifications behave with new Downtime and Ambient Display settings. That’s just a small preview of what this update brings. There’s a whole lot more.

If you haven’t received this update, your device should notify you shortly. However, you can manually grab the update by hitting Settings in the app tray, tap About Phone > System Updates, and then select, “Yes, I’m in.” The update will then begin to download, and after it’s downloaded, you can just hit the install button, and you should have Android 5.1 Lollipop in minutes.

Now we’re just waiting on the Moto X (1st Gen) to get the bump to Lollipop. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer of wait.

Have you gotten the update for your Moto E yet? What do you think of the new changes? Let us know in the comments.

Motorola Moto G (3rd Gen.) briefly spotted on Flipkart’s website

Moto G 2014-22

Motorola’s Moto G series has proven itself worthy over the years, offering users a great Android experience without breaking the bank. It’s been awhile since the Moto G (2nd Gen.) made its way to the public, and it looks like we’re finally starting to hear some rumors regarding the next handset in the G line. The Moto G (3rd Gen.) recently made a quick appearance on Flipkart’s website, though not much information was given about the handset.

moto-g-3rd-genmoto-g-3rd-gen-specifications

Aside from specifying the color and on-board storage options, the only real bit of information we have from the listing is the handset’s model number, which is listed as AP3560AD1K8. It should be noted that the 2014 Moto G carried model number XT1068, which is an odd contrast from this new model listing. This could also just be a placeholder model number, with the phone’s real specs not going live until the device is listed for sale on the website.

The listing has since been taken down, so there’s no way to find out any additional specs on the leaked handset. Previous rumors have suggested that the device will bring a Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM and either a 5 or 5.2-inch 1080p display. Although the listing doesn’t tell us much, it may be a hint that we could see the device launch before September of this year.

Get the Moto X, Nexus 6, and Moto 360 for a hefty discount in the UK on May 18

Moto_360_Main_Rotate_Watch_Face_01_TA

If you’re in the market for a new smartphone and are looking to snag a deal, you might want to consider picking up a device from Motorola.

Once the bell rings midnight on May 18, Motorola is hosting a 48-hour sale on the Moto X, Nexus 6, and Moto 360 smartwatch. This is quite a hefty sale, too. The Moto X will get slashed by £96, bringing the 16GB to £299 and the 32GB solution to £339.

Up next is a fan-favorite, the Motorola-made Nexus 6. You can pick up Google’s 16GB flagship device for £449. If you want the 32GB option, it’ll run you £512. That’s a savings around £30 on the original price. Finally, we have the Moto 360 smartwatch, which will be priced at £150, for a whopping £50 discount.

Next weeks flash sale will certainly save those a chunk of money who were intent on purchasing one of these three devices. However, with recent rumors on a possible new Moto X and Moto 360, we can’t help but think Motorola is trying to clear out stock to make way for new and improved devices. After all, they have been putting on a lot of excellent sales for their devices lately. It makes you a little bit suspicious.

Either way, take advantage of the discounts while you can. There’s nothing like outstanding sales on some quite admirable devices. Then again, you may want to hold off until there’s more definite news on a couple new Motorola devices.

Are you picking one up? Let us know in the comments.

Moto G (3rd Gen) allegedly spotted on Flipkart listing

Moto_E_2015_Slanted_Motorola_Logo_Camera_Lens_01_TA

While we haven’t heard any definite news from Motorola on any of their upcoming devices, Flipkart, a exclusive online retailer for Motorola devices, has listed the Moto G (3rd Gen) on its website.

The listing doesn’t go into much detail, and it has since been taken down. However, it did say that the new Moto G will sport 8GB of built-in storage, and since it is known to be a budget device, that amount is to be expected. It also shows a AP3560AD1K8 model number. But, considering this isn’t official information coming from Motorola, nothing is a verified fact–at its core, it’s another rumor.

motorola_mobility_moto_g_gen_3_flipkart_listing

What this listing does line up with is a tweet from Motorola President Rick Osterloh, where he said the company tries  “stay on a roughly annual cycle” for product releases. We can only assume that includes the Moto G, and this listing further verifies that statement.

We know a new Moto G is coming, but probably not until after another Moto X release in September, if the company is staying on that “rough annual cycle”. Either way, the prospect of another Moto G getting tested is exciting. After all, Motorola’s new devices have been exemplary products.

Would you buy a new Moto G or are you holding out for a new Moto X flagship?

Moto X, Nexus 6, and Moto 360 48-hour sale starts May 18th in the UK

moto x 2014 first impressions (7 of 18)
With new flagships from Samsung, LG, and HTC taking up much of the spotlight these days, Motorola has done its best to bring the focus back to its Moto line-up through various promotions and sales. Many of these deals have been focused on the U.S. market, but starting midnight on May 18th, Motorola will be conducting a 48-hour sale in the UK. The UK sale will apply to the Moto X, Nexus 6, and Moto 360 smartwatch.

The Moto X will be offered for £299 and £339 for the 16 and 32GB models, respectively. Next up, the Nexus 6 is being dropped to £449 and £519 for the 32 and 64GB models. As for the Moto 360? The smartwatch will be offered for £150, a savings of £50. With all these products already over a half-year-old, are they still worth buying? Honestly, yes, they are well worth the money and should still offer high-end experiences that is nearly on par with newer phones and watches.

That said, if you enjoy being on the absolute bleeding edge, you might be better off waiting for Motorola’s next-gen offerings. Rumors suggest that the Moto 360’s successor may be just around the corner, and we can also expect a next-gen Moto X late this summer and a new Nexus (though reportedly not from Motorola) in the fall.

Anyone planning on taking advantage of Motorola’s sale, or would you rather wait to see what they bring out later in the year? Let us know in the comments.

Motorola’s holding a two-day sale for its top devices in the UK

If the latest flagships from Samsung and HTC haven’t impressed you, now might be a good time to reconsider a Motorola phone. Starting at midnight on May 18th, the company is holding a 48-hour flash sale with hefty discounts on the Moto X, Nexus 6 and Moto 360 smartwatch. The Moto X is being cut by £96, pushing the 16GB model down to £299 and the 32GB version to £339. The gargantuan Nexus 6, meanwhile, is being dropped to £449 (32GB) and £519 (64GB), which is just £30 less than the current asking price.

We’ve seen a few signs pointing to a Moto 360 successor, so a price drop on the original isn’t too surprising. A device with a model number similar to the Moto 360 cropped up recently, and Lenovo’s CEO was spotted earlier this year with a briefcase full of smartwatch prototypes. In next week’s flash sale, the original Moto 360 is being cut to £150 — a 25 percent reduction, or a £50 saving. It’s a sizeable discount and signals an intent by Motorola to quickly clear out stock. Of course, it’s not a permanent price-drop, but we wouldn’t be shocked to see a bevy of similar sales in the coming months.

Moto E (2015) LTE gets updated to Android 5.1

Mote E LTE-16

Motorola’s 2015 model of the Moto E belongs to the wide range of budget smartphones. But even with the lower specs and matching price, Motorola is giving its device some love by updating it to Android 5.1 Lollipop. With only 1GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 410 processor, and 8GB of on-board storage, Motorola has proven that Lollipop can run on lower specs, a fresh change compared to, say, HTC’s attitude – the Taiwanese company is not going to update the better spec’ed One Mini 2 to Lollipop.

Improvements brought by this update come all across the board. Starting with the cameras, Motorola has improved low-light photos and the front-facing camera’s viewfinder. If your device is ever stolen or lost, you can now be assured that no one will be able to access your data as long as you have a screen lock. And when a heads-up notification hits the screen, you can now swipe it away for later. This way the notification leaves the screen but stores itself in the notifications panel.

There are also a number of improvements to the quick settings. Tiles now include pull-down functionality and conditional tiles can be hidden with a long-press. Also customary to other device’s rollouts of Android 5.1, the volume controls and volume settings panel have been improved dramatically. You can now change notifications volume while music is playing by tapping the bell icon.
Android 5.1 also comes with a number of other bug fixes and improvements to ART which should help performance.

The Moto 360 successor may have just visited Bluetooth SIG, announcement imminent?

The Motorola Moto 360 is one of the most successful smartwatches to date, which is no small feat considering the fledgling nature of the smartwatch market. A lot of its success has been attributed to its striking looks, but whatever its winning qualities are, we’re excited to see what Motorola has up its sleeves for the Moto 360 successor. Today, it’s been suggested that such a successor has just appeared on the Bluetooth SIG website and that the same thing happened just days before Motorola announced the original Moto 360. Hype train engaged.

Moto 360 successorThe device on the listing is named BTMW03 and is only referred to as a “Motorola Android Device”. So how are we sure that it’s the next Moto 360? Last year’s device was called BTMW01 in Bluetooth SIG’s database, and we can’t imagine that the model numbers could be this similar and not be similar. With Google I/O just around the corner as well, it’s high time we saw some action from Motorola, who’s Moto 360 was the star of the show at 2014’s event.
