Moto G 2015 images show up online

Moto-G-2015-Leak-TechnoBuffalo-4-1280x720

The latter half of the year is almost upon us and that can only mean one thing; some awesome devices are soon to be announced. The rumor mill has started turning and today we are setting our eyes on what will probably be another record-breaker for Motorola – the accessible Moto G, a phone that redefined series that redefined affordable smartphones forever.

Rumors of the new iteration of the 2015 Moto G have started surfacing the past couple months. We saw it quickly peek its head out over at Flipkart’s website, then we managed to get a hold of some images and a video. All that evidence was a bit fuzzy (both in the literal and figurative senses), which is why we are so excited to show you the latest leaked images.

These are by far the clearest third-generation Moto G photos we have seen. They come in the form of a few press renders and corroborate previous leaks in terms of smartphone design. The 2015 Moto G now has that odd LG-like, silver strip on the back. As opposed to the LG G series, though, this phone seems to implement the design element purely for aesthetic purposes.

Otherwise, the 2015 Moto G seems to incorporate a cleaner look with a simple back and an trim that resembles that of the Nexus 6. The front-facing speakers are still on board on board, which is definitely a plus, and its size is still perfect for one-handed usage.

Sadly, these leaked images don’t come paired with some juicy spec rumors. Previous reports claim the new Moto G will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, a 5-inch 720p screen, a 13 MP camera, a 5 MP front-facing shooter and LTE support.

This phone seems like an awesome upgrade over its previous generation, and the design has been completely revamped. Do you like it? I suppose my opinion will be completely formulated once I learn more about pricing. Hopefully it can stay within that sub-$200 range. We will find out more soon, as the previous iteration hit the market in September of 2014.

Unannounced Motorola ‘Kinzie’ (XT1585) phone packs powerhouse specs

DROID_Turbo_Back_Slanted_Camera_Motorola_Logo_TA

The longstanding relationship between Verizon and Motorola received new life in 2014 when the two released the DROID Turbo. The device, which was available exclusively to Big Red’s customers, had everything that a spec-obsessed consumer could want right down to long battery life. And this year Motorola will produce another device for Verizon being referred to internally as ‘Kinzie’.

Specifications for the unannounced device from Motorola surfaced on GFXBench, showing power that exceeds that of the DROID Turbo. Kinzie has 5.5-inch display with Quad HD (2560×1440) resolution, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, 20MP / 4.8MP cameras, and 32GB of internal storage. The size of Kinzie’s battery, though, was misssing.

The other notable item here is that it will ship with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, so we should see a launch this summer before Android M arrives.

Alleged benchmarks spill online for Verizon’s Droid ‘Kinzie’

A future Droid smartphone from Verizon will feature a 5.5-inch 1440 x 2560 display when it arrives, according to an alleged set of new benchmarks. Reportedly, the Motorola phone will also pack an octa-core 1.9GHz Snapdragon 820 processor with 3GBM.

Other specifications tipped in the benchmark sighting include an Adreno 430 GPU and 32GB internal storage. Powered by Android 5.1.1, the ‘Kinzie” could pack a 20-megapixel rear/5-megapixel front-facing camera combo.

The Kinzie is one of two recent Droid rumors to surface in the last few weeks. The other model said to be in the works is a 5.2-inch Droid “Clark“.  As a reminder, “Droid” is Verizon’s exclusive line of Android smartphones; Motorola is now the sole provider of handsets in this line.

We’ll soon be at the point where the current Droid models will celebrate their respective anniversaries. In other words, we should expect a refresh or new model or two to touch down at Verizon.

It’s worth reminding readers that the Kinzie and Clark are code names and will likely grab much more attractive names when launched. Also, specifications are not official and are subject to change.

Android 5.1 soak test officially begins on Verizon’s Moto X (2014) and Moto G (2013)

Moto_G_2014_2nd_Gen_Back_Slanted_Camera_Lens_Motorola_Logo_TA

Motorola’s David Schuster took to Google+ again to announce that Android 5.1 soak tests are officially rolling out for the Moto X (2014) and Moto G (2013) with LTE in the US. We earlier saw unofficial leaks of a Moto X (2014) running Android 5.1 on Verizon’s network.

While this is certainly good news, Schuster also explained that they were running into issues with Android 5.1 on the Moto E. Those have since been resolved, and testing has resumed in Brazil and India, so if all goes well, it shouldn’t be too long before an official update is seen.

So far, the only device that has seen a final release build without many issues is the Moto X (2014) Pure Edition.

There seems to be some unofficial reports that are saying that the Moto X (2014) on AT&T has begun its soak test as well. However, Schuster hasn’t mentioned anything yet. But with his track record thus far, it shouldn’t be long before we see something more official.

The 1st Gen. Moto G gets Android 5.1

Motorola’s first generation Moto G now is receiving over-the-air updates to Android Lollipop.

As with all devices that are updated to 5.1, Material Design and the notifications system seen in 5.0 are present here with some improvements. One of these is the new interruptions and downtime settings. This allows for priority-only interruptions during the times and days you like, and you can customize which reminders, events, calls, and events are prioritized. In addition, it will be integrated into Motorola Assist to allow for easy filtering.

Notifications for the update are going out now. If you do not see one, then head over to Settings, “About Phone,” then, “System updates,” and select “Yes, I’m in” in order to download the update for installation.

Android 5.1 soak tests rolling out for the LTE Moto G (1st Gen.), Verizon Moto X (2nd Gen.)

new-moto-x-first-look-aa-12-of-211

Just a few hours ago, Motorola’s David Schuster took to Google+ to confirm that the official Android 5.1 Lollipop update was beginning to roll out to all Moto X Pure Edition devices in the United States. It looks like Mr. Schuster is back at it again, this time with some vital information for Moto X, G and E owners.

According to Schuster, the Android 5.1 Lollipop soak test has just begun rolling out to both the Verizon Moto X (2nd Gen.) and the Moto G (1st Gen.) with LTE in the U.S., which means that if all goes as planned, we could see the official update hit devices as early as next week.

If you happen to own a Moto E (1st Gen.), there’s some news here for you, too. Motorola has run into some problems in the early stages of testing for the Android 5.1 update, which has apparently thrown the development team for a loop. Now that the bug has been squashed, Android 5.1 soak tests will continue to roll out to 1st Gen. Moto E devices in Brazil and India this week. He explains:

Anyway, we feel confident that we now see the light at the end of the tunnel. Since it is a complicated sequence of events that cause this issue we need a few more weeks to validate the fix.

If the Moto E soak test goes smoothly, we should see a wider rollout of the update within the coming weeks.

Moto 360 just $150 through Woot, metal band for $180

moto-360-review-aa-6-of-9

With the 2nd gen Moto 360 likely not too far off, we’ve seen Motorola put up its original Android Wear watch for sale more than once at the price of $150. Each time, however, the sale price has only been temporary. If you missed any of the previous sales, Woot is now offering up the watch for the same $150 asking price with a cognac leather band.

While the Moto 360 isn’t the newest Android Wear offering on the market, it is still easily one of the best available and is further enhanced by a recent update to Android 5.1-based software. For those that are more attracted to the metal banded variant, you can get the 23MM natural or dark metal options as well, though the asking price is slightly higher at $180. Considering the Moto 360 normally starts at $250 for the leather version and $300 for the metal, this is a heck of a deal.

For those interested in buying, it’s also worth mentioning you’ll get a 1-year warranty straight from Motorola. So how about it, any takers?

Galaxy S6 takes first place in real world speed test, beating out LG’s G4 and the iPhone 6

Samsung_Galaxy_S6_LG_G4_Cameras_01_TAA new massive benchmark from Tom’s Guide has put six of the best performing smartphones on the market against each other to see which phone came out on top in a variety of situations. The tests measured everything from real-life performance and tasks you’d typically do on your smartphone every day, to gaming and other benchmarks. The test measured the Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G4, HTC One M9, Google Nexus 6, Asus Zenfone 2, and Apple iPhone 6, so there’s a very wide variety of hardware here.

What’s definitely going to be great news for Samsung, their Galaxy S6 finished in 1st place a vast majority of the benchmarks, including PDF loading times, gaming performance, WiFi speed, and a handful of benchmarks. This can probably be attributed to Samsung’s own zippy Exynos processor, their very fast memory modules, and the insanely fast flash storage they opted to use in the S6. Surprisingly, though, the LG G4 beats out the S6 in camera opening time. Considering how much Samsung mentioned the quick camera shortcut on the home button, you’d think that would have scored better in a benchmark. But hey. props to LG for pulling that off.

The G4 scored 1st in camera opening time, as well as a Basemark OSII Memory test. Interestingly, the G4 pretty typically beat out the Snapdragon 810 powered HTC One M9. Considering the G4 has a higher resolution and only a Snapdragon 808 processor, this is almost irrefutable proof that the 810 has some problems. The only benchmark that the M9 came out ahead in was a 3dMark benchmark.

Another note worth mentioning is how poorly the Nexus 6 runs compared to other devices. It held up fairly well in benchmarks, but in real world tests, it was pretty consistently dead last, beaten by the Zenfone 2 and HTC’s M9. Considering Nexus phone are supposed to run very fast, completely stock versions of Android, that’s more than a little disappointing.
