Moto G 3rd Gen. press images and specs listed on Swiss retailer site

We’re mere days from the official introduction of the third generation of the Moto G series, and the device is popping up around the web in increasingly revealing leaks.
Just a few hours ago, Swiss retailer Digitec put up a listing for the Moto G 3rd Gen., complete with high quality press images showing the black and white versions of the device. The listing, which has been pulled down since news of it broke on German website Giga.de, appears to confirm some of the specs that have been associated with the new Moto G over the past months.

The images confirm that Motorola is going for a slightly more upscale design, with a finely textured back and a metallic-looking insert down the middle of the phone’s back. Only the black and white versions were listed, though if @evleaks has it right, Motorola is about to expand the availability of the Moto Maker customization program to the Moto G.
The specs included in the listing are a 5-inch Full HD display, 2GB of RAM, a quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz with an Adreno 405 GPU (likely a Snapdragon 610), Cat. 4 LTE, and 8GB of storage (expandable). Some of the listed specs could be placeholders, but they generally fit the bill for what we expect to be a solid mid-ranger with a killer price tag.
All will be revealed in less than a week, but now that we (think we) know all the key details about the Moto G, what do you think about it?
AT&T pauses Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the Moto X (1st Gen.)

Not more than two weeks ago AT&T began rolling out the update to Android 5.1 Lollipop to the 2013 Motorola Moto X. If you have yet to receive that update, it unfortunately looks like you’ll have to wait even longer to get a taste of Lollipop. According to the Moto X support page on AT&T’s website, effective July 20th, the update to Android 5.1 for this device has been suspended.
The carrier didn’t offer up any reasoning behind this delay, but it does say that it apologizes for any inconvenience and it is working to resolve the issue as quickly as it can.

We’re not exactly sure if Moto X owners have been experiencing too many bugs after updating or if AT&T is having problems rolling it out to users. This is a significant software update (from 4.4.4 KitKat to 5.1 Lollipop), so it’s not all too surprising that there could be some bugs in the update. We’ll be sure to keep you updated if we hear anything from the carrier.
If you’ve updated your AT&T Moto X to Android 5.1, have you experienced any problems? If so, let us know in the comments!
Moto G (2015) leak reveals IPX7 rating

The Motorola Moto G 2015 is fast turning into one of the industry’s worst kept secret and thanks to several leaks, we thought we already knew everything there was to know about Motorola’s next handset. It turns out that Motorola still has a surprise in store for us with newly leaked photos revealing that the Moto G 2015 will be Ingress rated.

The leaked photos reveal that the Moto G (2015) will come with an IPx7 Ingress rating, which means you should be able to use it up to 1 metre underwater for up to 30 minutes. Given that the handset is likely to cost between $150 and $200, any form of durability rating will definitely increase the appeal of the smartphone. The handset is also likely to be customisable through the Moto Maker service allowing you to make it truly unique to you.
Thanks to many other leaks, we know most of the specs that Motorola are likely to include with the Moto G (2015). The key specs include what is likely to be a 5-inch HD display (720p, not 1080p sadly), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with 2GB RAM and two storage options – 16GB and 32GB – which are likely to be expandable. On the back, the Moto G (2015) is expected to sport a 13MP rear camera with a 5MP front facing snapper and 2470 mAh also making it onboard.
Motorola is holding an event in London and New York City on July 28th where the company is expected to unveil the Moto G (2015) and based on the invite, it could be joined by the Moto X (2015). Whatever Motorola do announce, we’ll be there to bring you the information as it happens so stay tuned and we’ll reveal everything you need to know about this year’s Moto G in a week’s time!
Moto G (3rd Gen) to have a IPx7 rating
The 28th is quickly approaching, and the Moto G leaks just won’t stop.
The latest leak includes the informative film that is shipped attached to the front screen of most phones.
This film revels that the newest Moto G could have a IPx7 water resistance rating enabling it to be submerged up to 1 meter in water.
This is nothing revolutionary as water resistance rating have been shipping on phones like Samsung Galaxy S Active models and Sony has various water resistant phones on the market, but this would be a nice addition to a mid-ranged device.
The Moto line of phones have always been unofficially water resistant, but this is the first official rating that any Moto phone has received.
The sticker also shows a 13MP back camera and a 5 MP front shooter. This Moto G is to ship with 4G LTE out of the box instead of releasing an updated LTE version later like we have seen with other Moto G models.
Lastly, we get a SD card slot for expanded storage, a quad-core processor (expected to be the Snapdragon 410) and a 2470 mAh battery.
Not bad specs for a mid-range phone. Hopefully Motorola will be able to keep the price tag low with the addition of the water resistance rating.
Other expected specs include:
- 5-inch 720p display
- 1.4 GHz quad core Cortex A53 CPU(Snapdragon 410)
- 1GB RAM and 8/16GB of internal storage
- 13MP rear-facing camera
- 5MP front-facing camera
- micro-SD card slot
- 2,470 mAh battery
Is the addition of the IPx7 rating enough to get you to get this third gen Moto G? Let us know in the comments below!

Motorola’s tiny Hint headset gets a huge update
Most of Motorola’s energy is likely going into the new smartphones it’s expected to launch next week, but that isn’t stopping it from upgrading other parts of its lineup. The company has quietly released a second-generation Moto Hint headset that retains the tiny in-ear design, but makes far fewer compromises. To begin with, you get a whopping 17 hours of talk time, or 70 percent more than before — you shouldn’t have any problems making it through the day with this earpiece. There’s improved audio and voice control, too, so you’ll have an easier time checking notifications and controlling apps. The new Hint is available for $130 ($20 less than its predecessor when new), so give it a spin if you want to take a lot of calls on the sly.

2nd generation Moto Hint gets a new design and better battery
The Moto hint is a very discreet and stylus bluetooth headset that was introduced last year and now it looks like Motorola has secretly released the 2nd generation. The differences are subtle, but noticeable. One being a new design that resembles more of an earbud look which Motorola says has an “improved fit and enhanced audio“.
The front of the packaging says the battery is quite a bit larger “with up to 70% more talk time“. The last gen had 10hrs of talk time with the 2nd gen claiming 17hrs of talk time.
The price at BestBuy has also ben reduced to $129 as opposed to $150. Motorola’s site has reduced it even further to $79, but it is probably the 1st gen.

2nd-gen Motorola Moto Hint: improved battery life, fit and price tag

Alongside the Moto X (2014) and Moto G (2014), Motorola unveiled a tiny Bluetooth-powered earbud called the Hint. This earpiece allows you to take phone calls, control your smartphone with voice actions and much more. If you’ve been waiting for a refresh on the original model, today is your day. It looks like Motorola has quietly outed the second-generation Moto Hint, and it’s already available for purchase from Best Buy.
Google+ user Josue Joseph already scored some hands-on time with the new model, which is shown in the photos above. According to the listing on Best Buy’s website, the new Moto Hint features an “improved fit” and “advanced voice control” features, though we’re not exactly sure what those are at the moment. The design of the device looks almost identical to the 2014 model, but apparently fits even better in the ear. It also comes with a battery that can last up to 17 hours on a single charge (up from 10 hours), which is definitely a welcome feature to the headset.
The new model also sports a special wind-canceling technology, Bluetooth 3.0 and EDR technology, and a cheaper price tag at $129.99. The original Hint launched at $149.99, which many users argued was too much for the headset.
Motorola is holding events in New York City and London on July 28th, so we should hear more about the new Moto Hint when that rolls around. You can already purchase the new model from Best Buy for the cheaper price tag, though it should be noted that Motorola is offering the first-generation device for just $79.99. The new model is also listed on Sprint’s website as the “Moto Hint Plus”, though you can’t buy it from the carrier quite yet.
If you’re interested, head to the link below to pick one up for yourself. And be sure to let us know – are you planning to purchase this new model?
Moto Hint gets price slashed down to $80
Motorola is having a bit of a fire sale right now. The Moto X 2014 is down to $299.99, the Moto 360 is down to $149.99, and now Motorola’s Bluetooth ear piece, the Moto Hint, is down to $79.99 from $149.99.
We aren’t sure if this is a sign that Motorola is planning to update all of these products, or if this is just part of a calculated sale to get some extra stock out of the warehouse. Regardless of that, the almost 50% price cut of the Moto Hint is a great deal for anyone looking for a new Bluetooth earpiece.
The Moto Hint was released last year and while you can use it with other devices, this works best when paired with the Moto X 2014. This is due to the fact that you can get all the information the comes through your phone, such as notifications, messages, and of course phone calls, through the Hint ear piece.
The biggest issue that the Moto Hint seems to have is its’ battery life. The Hint touts a battery life of only 3 hours, however the charging cradle will allow for up to two full charges of the Hint. But that doesn’t seem to have really hindered folks from giving the Hint some good reviews.
With the colossal price drop, are you now interested in picking up the Moto Hint? Do you already have one and want to tell us about it? Just drop a comment below and let us know your thoughts.

Motorola’s third generation Moto G shows up on eCommerce site
Motorola is set for an event on July 28th. People are expecting a third generation Moto X and Moto G and are hoping for a second generation Moto 360.
There has even been talk that there will be two Moto Xs reveiled at the event. A smaller 5.2-inch phone and a 5.7-inch phablet. Additionally, it would appear that only the larger Moto X will be available on Verizon’s network along with a new Droid that could also be announced on at the event.
Moto G leaks and rumors have been running around the internet lately. Here, we have some press renders and here a video leaked some time ago.
All of our information has lead to the following spec sheet.
- 5-inch 720p display
- 1.4 GHz quad core Cortex A53 CPU(Snapdragon 410)
- 1GB RAM and 8/16GB of internal storage
- 13MP rear-facing camera
- 5MP front-facing camera
- micro-SD card slot
- 2,470 mAh battery
However, this new eCommerce page from fnac claims 2 GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 610 in tow according to Techdroider.
Would you purchase the Moto G if Motorola finally brings it up to 2 GB of RAM? In my experience with both generations previous, the 1 GB of RAM was the only thing keeping it from being able to be my daily driver.
What do you think? Would you get the new Moto G after the announcement on the 28th? Or will you opt for the Moto X?

Android Authority this week – July 19, 2015

Hello Android fans, this week brought us the release of the Galaxy A8 and the cool new Axon phone, and a bevy of hot rumors about the real stars of this summers: Galaxy Note 5, OnePlus 2, and the new Moto X. The Galaxy Note 5 and the S6 Edge Plus are now rumored to launch on August 12, and a series of renders gives us a good idea of what to expect. ZTE introduced the Axon in the United States, and we were actually impressed by the solid specs and cheap price. Motorola scheduled an event for July 28, where we expect to see the new Moto G and Moto X. More details about the Huawei Nexus leaked, we got a look at the Turing phone, and HTC introduced several new devices in the United States. Finally, Cortana for Android leaked ahead of launch.
Inside AA HQ
We had two product launches this week in New York (Axon and HTC Desire), that Darcy and Lanh attended, but all in all, our virtual HQ was pretty quiet this week. That’s not because we’re all in vacation… it’s just that we’re working on some long term projects, that are not quite ready to be announced.
Luckily, things are a bit livelier on the general Android front, thanks in large part to Samsung’s apparent decision to move up the launch of the Galaxy Note 5. Check our Galaxy Note 5 rumor roundup, and while you’re at it, have a look at the OnePlus 2 rumor roundup as well. And stay tuned for more rumors as we get them!
