Moto Droid phones are no longer available in China
Motorola was recently purchased by Lenovo and one of the first things they did was bring back Motorola to China. Unfortunately, all Moto Droid series phones will not be coming with them.
Lenovo’s business group president, Chen Xudong was asked about the news on Webio, to which he said:
“Droid series has no further plans to introduce or maintain new smartphones”.
This does not mean the Droid name will die everywhere. In the US it will still remain exclusive to Verizon. With some recent leaks, it looks like there will be three new phones coming, DROID ULTRA, DROID MAXX, and DROID Mini.

Moto X Pure Edition now in stock at Best Buy
The Moto X Pure Edition in both 16GB and 32GB models is now available to purchase at Best Buy. As per the norm, the retailer is only selling a few color choices, so if you’re looking for any customization, you’ll need to go through the Moto Maker.
The technology giant is selling the 16GB model in black for $399 or white with a bamboo backing for $425. The 32GB option comes in black, white, and bamboo with the standard colors starting at $449 or $475 for the wood.
Interestingly, shipping availability right now is only showing for the black 16GB variant. The 32GB version of the device and bamboo models seem to have no shipping availability, according to the website, possibly indicating they can only be bought in-store for the time being. Hopefully Best Buy will remedy that soon.
Anyone picking one up?

Motorola reportedly begins rolling out Stagefright fix for its smartphones globally
Motorola has announced that it has begun rolling out the Stagefright patch for its smartphones across the globe. The Moto X Pure Edition and Moto X Play come preloaded with the security patch, however, the Moto G (2015) does not.
Per Fone Arena, here’s the full list of devices getting the patch:
- Moto G 1st Gen – EMEA/India Retail
- Moto G LTE 1st Gen – Brazil Retail
- Moto G 1st Gen – Brazil Retail
- Moto X 1st Gen – Brazil Retail/Telcel Mexico
- Moto X 2nd Gen – Brazil Retail
- Moto E 4G 2nd Gen – Asia Retail
- Moto G 2nd Gen – US Retail
- Moto G 2nd Gen – Brazil Retail
- Moto G 3rd Gen – Retail Brazil
- Moto G 2nd Gen – India
- Moto E 1st Gen – Brazil/India/US Retail
Fone Arena pictured the Moto G (3rd Gen) receiving the update as version 23.46.4 and is 174MB in size. The update also includes the addition of Night Mode in some markets that didn’t have it enabled during the initial production run. There’s also the usual bevy of bug fixes and performance updates.
Some have already seen this update getting pushed to their devices. If you haven’t already, just head into Settings and check for an update manually.
Motorola announced its plans in August to update all of its devices from 2013 onward to fix the vulnerability, but we haven’t heard anything since then. And oddly, aside from Fone Arena spotting the update in the wild, we haven’t heard anything official from Motorola yet.
Anyone else getting the Stagefright fix?

Moto X Pure owners running into issues starting service with Verizon, fix on the way
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
The Moto X Pure Edition is one of Motorola‘s largest device launches in a long time. While the DROID Turbo could be mixed in there, specific carrier models aren’t as widely looked upon as stock unlocked devices at an extremely great price point. While its size, battery, processor, camera and other aspects stand out quite a bit, it is a bit more important that the device, as is, supports all US-based networks out of the box. While awesome, it did produce some worries with the biggest carrier state side, Verizon. Big red hasn’t always had the best track record of devices that aren’t theirs being compatible out of the box. The Nexus 6 comes to mind. However, I have seen a number of videos where swapping in an already active Verizon SIM card into the Moto X Pure works without a hitch, but apparently there seems to be an issue with customers attempting to start-up a new account.
According to a statement that was provided to Dorid-Life on the matter; “Moto X Pure Edition is certified and supported for activation on Verizon’s network. We are working with Motorola to resolve the activation issue by Friday Sept. 18.”
It is important to note that this issue is related to new lines of service or a new SIM card activation for the device. Utilizing an already active line and SIM card from another Verizon phone seems to work just fine. If you are stuck in that situation, rest assured, you will be up and running soon. If 3 more days is too long for you to wait, then you might want to investigate another service provider.

Some Verizon users having Moto X Pure Edition activation issues, fix coming by Sep 18

When Motorola first announced the Moto X Pure Edition (aka X Style) for the US market, we were both excited and intrigued at the idea of one SKU that would work with all US carriers. At the same time, we couldn’t help but feel a bit skeptical as well, especially with regards to CDMA based carriers like Verizon. After all, both the Nexus (2013) LTE and Nexus 6 had activation issues on Verizon, and so it was hard to believe that Big Red would make life easy for Motorola customers.
Now that the Moto X Pure Edition has arrived, it turns out we all had good reason to be a little wary. While popping in a nano-SIM card from an existing Verizon plan works flawlessly, those attempting to active a new plan/SIM with their Moto X Pure Edition are having trouble activating the phone to Verizon’s network. The good news is that this a temporary issue. In a statement issued to Droid Life, Verizon says the “Moto X Pure Edition is certified and supported for activation on Verizon’s network. We are working with Motorola to resolve the activation issue by Friday Sept. 18.”

More than likely Verizon has yet to enter the necessary IMEIs into its database, but we can’t help but feel this issue could have been easily avoided. Then again, maybe Verizon just doesn’t care, but they should. For those with brand new phones sitting on their desks, having to wait a few days to activate to Verizon is a big annoyance, and one that could drive at least a few of these users to a new carrier.

Verizon Moto X (1st Gen.) is finally receiving Android 5.1 Lollipop

Believe it or not, owners of the Motorola Moto X (2013) on Verizon Wireless have been stuck on Android 4.4.4 KitKat for all this time. Coming in at a hefty 712MB in size, the new update will bring the device’s software version up to 222.21.39.

If you have yet to receive your update, you can check manually by heading to Settings>About device>Software update. Have you gotten the update yet? Motorola brings its Moto Body fitness tracking application to the Play Store

Last November, Motorola launched a fitness application called Moto Body that gave Moto 360 owners some handy fitness tracking information on their wrists. Even though the app could deliver users a daily step count and some basic calorie information, there was no way to view this information on a smartphone. Now Motorola has released Moto Body to the Play Store, bringing more detailed activity information and more to the fitness app.
Moto Body will allow users to track daily, weekly, monthly and yearly fitness activity, Heart Activity, along with step counts, calorie burn data and more. It will even give you personalized insights, tips and helpful articles to help you improve on your goals. Compared to the smartwatch-only version of the app, the new Moto Body offers up enhanced heart rate sensing capabilities, a new dashboard that provides daily and weekly data and a more robust Moto Body profile setup process.
When it comes to fitness applications, users don’t want to just see daily statistics. It’s extremely helpful to be able to access fitness history and other stats, and now Moto Body can do that for you. Take a look at the screenshots below for a better look at the app:
