Motorola Droid Turbo 2 and Maxx 2 features and promotions confirmed in leak

Verizon is gearing up for an October 27th Droid event, but you can bet we won’t have to wait until then to read all the details. Today we are taking a look at a leak of an official Verizon pamphlet. It tells us quite a bit about the new Droid Turbo 2 and Droid Maxx 2 from Motorola, as well as some promotions Big Red will be holding. Shall we dig right in?
Motorola Droid Maxx 2
The carrier is quick to advertise the stunning 48 hours of battery life the Motorola Droid Maxx 2 is supposed to tout. Though that is a hard promise to keep, the Droid Maxx 2 is said to come with a 3630 mAh battery, which is pretty hefty, in and of itself. Now factor in the that this is to be pretty much another version of the Moto X Play with mid-end specs, such as a Snapdragon 615, 2 GB of RAM and a 5.5-inch 1080p display. This resource-friendly device will definitely last a while!
Not convinced by the killer battery life? Verizon is trying to lure customers by offering some sweet deals. In the case of the Droid Maxx 2, you will be able to get up to $300 of credit for trading in your old smartphone.

Want something a bit stronger? The Motorola Droid Turbo 2 is not only said to come with more powerful specs, it will literally be stronger than your average phone. Motorola claims this phone has the “world’s first shatterproof screen”. Now, that promise will be hard to keep! And it’s still unsure what, exactly, Motorola is doing to accomplish this. For now we will just say we won’t believe it until we see it.
Rumored specs include a powerful Snapdragon 810 SoC, a 5.43-inch QHD display, 3 GB of RAM, 32/64 GB of internal storage and a massive 3760 mAh battery. Sounds familiar, right? Yes, it’s pretty much another version of the Moto X Pure (Style).
And while we are on the topic of shattering screens, Verizon is tying this theme into its promotion. In similar fashion, you can turn in any smartphone to get up to $300 in credit; even one with a cracked screen! To make the deal even sweeter, Motorola and Verizon are offering one design refresh with the purchase of a 64 GB Droid Turbo 2.

Wrapping up
Pretty sweet stuff, right? Hang tight. The announcement is right around the corner and we will soon know all about this phone due. Meanwhile, hit the comments and let us know which of these two you are going for. Are you liking what you see?
Droid Turbo 2 leak hints at ‘shatterproof’ screen and Moto Maker
Those rumors of Verizon launching the Droid Turbo 2 and Droid Maxx 2 at its October 27th event? They just got much more concrete. Droid-Life has obtained leaked promos spilling the beans on both of the carrier-specific Motorola smartphones. As suspected, the Droid Turbo 2 should be advertised as having a “shatterproof” screen — we’re a bit skeptical of that claim, but Big Red will apparently back that up by accepting trade-ins of phones with cracked screens. Even if the display doesn’t live up to that billing, though, the new Turbo will reportedly offer Moto Maker customization. Finally, you won’t be stuck picking from a handful of black-and-red models while your Moto X-toting friends show off their more colorful devices.
The ad copy also talks about the Droid Maxx 2, although it largely says what you might already know: this is really just a Moto X Play gussied up for Verizon, complete with a 48-hour battery. It’s not going to be nearly as exciting as the Turbo 2, then, but you’ll at least have one option on the network if you value battery life above all else.

Leaked promo materials reveal Moto Maker for DROID Turbo 2, 48-hour battery life for DROID MAXX 2
The launch of the DROID Turbo 2 and DROID MAXX 2, two handsets that will be exclusive to Verizon, is fast approaching. What does that mean? Leaks are happening and they are happening with greater frequency. The DROID Turbo 2’s specifications surfaced earlier in the week and then we learned that the DROID MAXX 2 would have a removable back. Now there are alleged promotional materials from Verizon that show a bit more about both.
Motorola is giving Verizon customization, lengthy battery life, and durable hardware.
The DROID Turbo 2 will join the Moto X, Moto G, and Moto 360 as Motorola-made devices that can be customized through the company’s Moto Maker design suite. Verizon notes that there are over 1,000 combinations for customers to explore.
And Verizon is throwing in a promotion where buyers of the 64GB model can redesign their DROID Turbo 2 if unhappy the first time around.
The promotional materials obtained also mentioned the DROID MAXX 2, confirming that the handset will live up to it predecessor’s success by having 48-hour battery life. The original DROID MAXX also touted 48-hour battery life behind a 3500mAh battery. Now that specifications have evolved from the original’s 1280×720 display resolution and dual-core processor, it should be interesting to see how Motorola manages to give Verizon an exclusive that doesn’t resemble a brick.
Another promotion, applicable to both of the aforementioned phones, will be receiving $300 back when trading in your current smartphone. When purchasing the DROID Turbo 2, Big Red is going to be willing to accept one’s with cracked screens. Not bad considering the DROID Turbo 2 will prevent that from ever happening with its “world’s first shatterproof screen.”
The DROID Turbo 2 and DROID MAXX 2 will be revealed officially at an event co-hosted by Motorola and Verizon in New York City on October 27.

Droid Turbo 2 teased on accessory manufacturer website
The announcement of the new Motorola Droid devices is just around the corner. However, if you’re too ansy to wait, this news might help hold you over. Case manufacturer Qmadix has jumped the gun and outted a couple listings for the Droid Turbo 2.
The device is only shown with the case installed, so we don’t have the best look at the chassis. However, we get a nice frontal view.
In comparison to the Moto X Pure, the bottom speaker grill appears to have been split into two (if that’s what they really are). On the back, Motorola is carrying over that metal accent that runs from the camera down to the logo dimple.
From the top and bottom image, we can see a standard microUSB port. The headphone jack isn’t centered on the top like on the Moto X.
This is all we have for now on the new Turbo 2. Based on previous leaks, we’re expecting a 5.43″ QHD display, Snapdragon 810 SoC, 21MP main camera, and 3,760mAh battery. Also, unlike the previous Turbo, this one is said to be customizable through Moto Maker.
Stay tuned for the Motorola/Verizon announcement on Oct. 27th! We’ll pass along any other trickles from leaks.

Removable back for the Motorola Droid Maxx 2?
More details regarding Motorola’s upcoming Droid Maxx 2 handset has leaked on Twitter. According to Evan Blass, the handset will feature a removable back. Could this mean removable battery for the Droid Maxx 2?
The Droid Maxx 2 will be the successor the original Droid Maxx. The handset will likely be announced at Motorola’s upcoming press event scheduled for October 27. The Droid Maxx 2 will be one of the two devices likely announced, the other being the Droid Turbo 2. The Droid Maxx 2 will feature a similar design and a majority of the same specifications as the Moto X Play. A new leak on Twitter states that the handset will include a removable back. But don’t get over excited, this doesn’t necessarily mean removable battery and expandable storage. In matter of fact, we have seen many manufacturer’s recently implement a removable back on their devices, however, fail to include a removable battery. So don’t get your hopes up just yet. If Motorola does happen to include a user replaceable battery here, it will be a stand out feature because many have recently gone away with the feature. Unfortunately, the link to the leaked listing and images have been taken down.
We’ll see what happens in less than two weeks time.

Motorola Droid Turbo 2 renders appear on case manufacturer’s site

Verizon Wireless is planning something special for October 27th, and by all accounts it has something to do with the unannounced Motorola Droid Turbo 2, as well as at least one other device. The Turbo 2 is rumored to be a higher spec variant of the Moto X Style, and has been leaked for some time now, including as the Moto X Force (previously the Moto X Bounce), believed to be its international moniker. Earlier today, case manufacturer Qmadix essentially confirmed the device by posting various press renders of its upcoming accessory offerings:

As indicated by the screen capture above, four products are currently listed, including two “X Series LITE” cases (black and white), an Invisible First-Defense Flexible Glass screen protector, and a standard Screen Protector. Of particular interest are some of the case images however:

The back of the case has a small hole cut into the bottom right portion of the rear. This will presumably used for a microphone, however it is somewhat further up than one might traditionally expect to find it. In addition, the picture of the bottom side of the smartphone clearly shows a standard USB 2.0 port.

What to expect
Based on past rumors or leaks, the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 is said to feature a 5.43-inch QHD POLED display, said to be ‘Shatterproof’. It will apparently be reinforced with metal edges to improve its strength. The phone is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and 3GB of RAM. It may come in both 32GB and 64GB storage options. Also slated are a 21-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front facing camera, a 3,760mAh battery, and wireless charging.
Will the Droid Turbo 2 be sold through Moto Maker (a la the Moto X Pure Edition, seen here)?
Supposedly, the Droid Turbo 2 will be sold through Motorola’s Moto Maker website, which means there should be a large number of potential color customization combinations to play around with. As we had mentioned previously, this would be the first Droid-branded phone to be sold with true Moto Maker support, however customers will also be able to buy it directly through Verizon Wireless.
As a final detail, Motorola is purportedly going to offer customers a free, 1-time design swap within 2 years of purchase.
Until the Verizon event later this month, we must remind our readers that even these press renders are for a product that has yet to be confirmed by Motorola or Verizon, and thus some modicum of scrutiny should be employed. Let the count-down for October 27th begin!
Oh look, DROID Turbo 2 accessories show some device designs
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Verizon has a knack for taking a perfectly good thing and twisting it into a carrier exclusive. I can say the same thing about a number of carriers. However, that device exclusive list has certainly shrunk over the years. The second generation of the DROID Turbo 2 is close at hand with an expected announcement slated for October 27th. While there have been a number of leaked images and specs regarding the device, it never hurts to toss out a few more when we come across them. Apparently accessory manufacturer Qmadix has a few accessory items ‘coming soon’ that show the DROID Turbo 2’s front again and a bit of the back mixed with button locations. Not super exciting, but something none the less.

The launch should be good for Motorola since the 2015 Moto X Pure edition is sticking to a direct to customer sales approach. With a monster sales force and a huge advertising budget I expect the DROID Turbo 2 to bring in a lot of sales for big red and Motorola.

Motorola’s latest ad asks: what if your phone was a person
What do you get when you cross a comedian and an unsuspecting member of the public? #WatchAndFindOut #PhoneyJob https://t.co/TIuMzdIzU3
— Motorola UK (@motorolaUK) October 15, 2015

Despite increasing competition in the entry segment, the new Moto G (2015) continues Motorola’s tradition of bringing us excellent low-cost smartphones that offer a ton of features without breaking the bank. With improved features like waterproofing, Moto Maker customization, and an improved camera – there’s a lot to like about the Moto G (2015).
Of course, winning against the competition isn’t just about creating a solid product, it’s also about good marketing. Motorola’s latest commercial succeeds to that end, at least in my own personal opinion. The new ad casts an “unsuspecting volunteer” to play the role of the Moto G, and the video shows the phone’s ‘owner’ asking the person to sing songs, entertain it through games, tell the time, ask it to report on recent text messages, and so forth.

It’s a fun to watch video, just because it’s obviously not taking itself too seriously. The video ends by flashing an image and promotional tag-line for the Moto G. While some folks prefer marketing that focuses directly on features and capabilities, these kinds of adds actually tend to do pretty well among mainstream users.

Updated Motorola email app appears on Google Play

Motorola’s stock email app has appeared over at the Google Play store, along with a selection of improvements, bug fixes and little feature tweaks to improve the app’s functionality.
However, before we get too excited, the app isn’t compatible with non-Motorola handsets, at least not yet. In fact, it doesn’t appear to work with all Moto phones either and you will need to be updated to Android 5.0 or later. But there is a point to all this. Moving its app over to the Google Play should allow for more frequent updates, rather than tying improvements to the app with other, larger system wide updates.

Here’s a list of all the changes included in this latest app version:
- Disable sync while roaming
- Progressive search capability for emails
- Attach pictures from Camera in composer
- Notifications for attachment download failures/cancellations
- New option “Select All” for email operations
- Customise peak time sync schedule
- New option to choose number of emails to sync for POP account
- New safe way of communicating with Google Gmail server using OAuth 2.0
- Bug fixes and stability improvements.
This isn’t the first app from Motorola to make its way to Google Play. The company also has its Camera, Gallery, FM Radio, and Active Display applications, to name just a few, up on the store. I have to wonder if Motorola may eventually take inspiration from HTC and Samsung, and open up at least some of its apps to the wider world of Android phones.
Once the email app has been updated the old way one last time, Motorola customers should be able to check out Google Play for all the latest updates. I’ll leave the link below.
Motorola accidentally confirms DROID MAXX 2 in Moto Email update
We know the Motorola DROID MAXX 2 is coming, we just don’t know when. Motorola isn’t trying to hide things, though, as they’ve accidentally revealed the existence of the MAXX 2 in their updated Moto Email application.
The screenshots for the app in question have a signature that says “Sent from my DROID MAXX 2,” which could be some elaborate trolling, but I think it’s pretty likely that somebody uploaded some screenshots a little early. The screenshots have since been removed from the Play Store listing, which adds some credibility to that theory.
The leak isn’t the only thing interesting about the update, though. There are a handful of new features for current users, including better searching and syncing tools, an option to attach photos directly from the camera while composing emails, and better Gmail security. Most of these are things that other email clients have long since adopted, but if you’re using the stock Motorola email client, you’ll probably want to grab this update anyway.
