Sprint reveals three smartphone additions coming to Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile
Sprint has announced a handful of new smartphones for its subsidiaries Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile. Out of the three smartphone additions announced, only one will be making its way to Boost Mobile.
First up is the HTC Desire 626s, which will be available on Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile for $129.99. Coming to Virgin Mobile is the HTC Union for $79.99 along with the much more impressive Motorola Moto G (2015) for $149.99.
As per the norm, plans start at $30 on Virgin Mobile, which gets you 300 minutes of talk, unlimited text, and 3GB of data. Boost Mobile offers much the same, however, $30 will only get you 2GB of data. However, if you make 18 on-time payments, Boost Mobile will bump that up to 5GB per month (500MB of free data every 3 months of on-time payments).
Anyone plan on picking up one of these devices on Boost or Virgin in the near future?

Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile offering a trio of new Android smartphones for less than $150

Both Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile
are now selling new three Android smartphones $150 or less. Whereas some of the models may have been previously announced or offered through one of the service providers, the trio can now be had at both places.
Each comes from a different hardware maker; however, all three run Android 5.1 Lollipop and can be scooped up at Walmart for the two carriers.
- The HTC Desire 626s features a 5-inch 720p display, an 8-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front-facing camera. You’ll find this one for $130.
- The third generation Moto G is a water-resistant handset with a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-inch DH display protected by Gorilla Glass 3. Look for the Moto G for $150.

The Huawei Union is a more entry-level experience and comes with a 4.5-inch touchscreen display, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera. Priced $80.00, it offers up a 4.5-inch screen, with power coming from a 1.1GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, and 8GB of storage. Deal: Moto E (2nd gen) with 100% free calling from FreedomPop, just $49.99

There is little denying that the mobile landscape has evolved dramatically over the last few years, as both traditional carriers and prepaid operators have begun focusing on more aggressive plan pricing. While prices have gone down all across the board, buying a phone and paying for monthly service can still be a pretty costly affair, but thankfully FreedomPop offers an alternative. FreedomPop is the country’s only 100% free mobile phone service, offering up free voice, text, data, and even free international calling to over 50 countries.
The free plan comes with 200 voice minutes, 500 texts, and 500MB data every month with no costs beyond buying a phone. For those that need more, there are premium options including a $10.99 plan with unlimited voice and text and the same 500MB data. There’s also the $19.99 plan with the same unlimited talk and text, but 1GB of data. FreedomPop additionally offers the “Premium Plus” service as an optional perk, bringing visual voicemail, premium voice quality, wireless tethering, data rollover, and support for MMS (picture/video messaging).
FreedomPop is the country’s only 100% free mobile phone service, offering up free voice, text, data, and even free international calling to over 50 countries.
As you can see, FreedomPop’s service offers a lot for very little (or even nothing), but what about the cost of getting started? Right now FreedomPop is offering the Motorola Moto E (2nd gen) in certified pre-owned condition for just $49.99. Not only do you get the phone, but you get a one-month free trial of the Unlimited Talk, Text, & 1GB data plan, which can be switched over at any time to the 100% free plan. That’s $49.99 for what is valued at around $249.98. Yes, the phone you get is in pre-owned condition, but it has been thoroughly checked by FreedomPop and comes with a 30-day money back guarantee and there are no contracts so you can cancel service at any time (or switch to free, as already mentioned)

As for the Moto E (2nd gen) specs? The Moto E is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 with 1GB RAM and offers 8GB storage with microSD support. Other specs include a 5MP main cam, a VGA front cam, a 4.3-inch display with a resolution of 540 x 960, a big 2390 mAh battery, and Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
This latest bundle could be perfect for those looking for an extremely low cost (or free) phone service option, as well as an entry-level phone that should provide a reasonably solid Android experience. Anyone planning on picking this one up? Let us know in the comments.

Motorola already testing Android 6.0 for the Moto X Pure Edition
It seems that Motorola has begun testing Android 6.0 on the Moto X Pure Edition. Don’t get excited just yet, though. Motorola’s David Schuster says that it’s a preliminary “TestDrive,” which is something that happens before the company is ready to conduct a full soak test.
Here’s what Schuster had to say:
There have been a couple reports of a Marshmallow “soak test” that has started for Moto X 2015 Pure Edition. Just want to make it clear that we have NOT started a formal “soak test”. We have started a small TestDrive for the Marshmallow upgrade on Moto X 2015 Pure Edition. We will be conducting these tests for the next couple of weeks. Pending the feedback during this test cycle will determine the timing of a full soak test.
In other words, barring any problems with this “TestDrive,” Motorola could run a Android Marshmallow soak test before the end of 2015. It’s not likely that we’ll see a full rollout before the end of 2015, but this is still great news considering how long it took for many of Motorola’s devices to get updated past Android 4.4.
Motorola earlier this month detailed its plans as to which devices would be receiving Android 6.0, so it’s not surprising that we’re already seeing hints of it in development for some devices.
We’re crossing our fingers!

Droid Turbo 2 and Maxx 2 confirmed in leaked promo material
There’s a great deal of anticipation for Motorola’s Droid variant of its 2015 flagship. That anticipation was exacerbated when the Motorola/Verizon invite went out to the press, because the companies stated that more than one Droid would be unveiled.
Since then, it’s been a mystery as to what that second device would be. We were all pretty sure that the primary device will be the successor to last year’s Droid Turbo.
Fortunately, now we have some more info, and creditable info at that. Promo pamphlets have been found and displayed for us, revealing good, prevalent details about both of the upcoming Droids.
There a few good details to go over here, so let’s get to it. First, we now know what device will be accompanying the Turbo 2 – the Droid Maxx 2. Recall that the original Droid Maxx launched in 2013, and the selling point was a hefty battery. It seems like Motorola and Verizon decided that the market would love to see that focus on battery life once again. The pamphlet above states that the Maxx 2 can get 2 days of battery life.
Design-wise, we’re seeing a very similar phone to Motorola’s 2015 lineup. The info suggests that the back covers will be removable. Three colors of “shells” are shown. It would be disappointing if these are the only color options we get.
Next up are details about the Turbo 2. We see the confirmation of the “shatterproof” display that leaks have been going on about. Unfortunately, we don’t know anything else yet, like how Motorola plans to accomplish this.
Based on leaks, we have been under the assumption that the Turbo 2 will have access to Moto Maker this time (Motorola’s online customization tool). The following promo page backs that up.
If you were a fan of last year’s ballistic nylon material, you’ll be happy to hear it will make a return and be included as a material option, along with leather. One other cool thing is that if you purchase the 64GB version of the Turbo 2, you’ll be allowed one free design refresh (assuming this means that you’ll be able to send the phone back to Motorola and choose a different custom design).
The promo material also details incentives to entice customers to swing Motorola’s way. If you trade in your current, good-working smartphone, you can get “up to $300 back” in the form of a Verizon gift card or account credit. But I wouldn’t get too giddy about that until you find out how much your particular phone would be worth in their system. Interestingly, for the Turbo 2, you can trade in a phone that has a cracked screen.
What do you think about the next Droid lineup? Have you been waiting for another Droid Maxx?

Some Moto X Pure Edition users are testing Android 6.0 Marshmallow already

We have had our fair share of Moto X Pure Edition content here at Android Authority, but we know most people are more worried about their Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. When is it coming?
While we can’t answer that question just yet, the first signs of the new software have already started showing up. In fact, a select group of users is testing it! Some Moto X Pure Edition users started receiving soak test invites last week. Though it wasn’t specified what the update included, it would only be reasonable to think it could be Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Now we know that was exactly what Motorola was referring to.

Motorola’s own David Schuster wanted to make things clear for us, so he gave us all the juicy details on his Google+ page. It turns out this is not really a full-fledged soak test, though. Instead, it is a test drive to see if the software is ready for the next stage.

For those who may not know, soak testing is when the manufacturer makes software available to some users in order to test its stability and performance. You can think of it as some kind of beta run. Regardless, it means Motorola is at it once again with the awesome update times. The phone maker is known to be among the best at keeping their phones up to date. We are glad to see that habit still lives.
By the way – are any of you guys lucky enough to be part of this select group?

A small number of people are now testing Android Marshmallow on the Moto X Pure Edition
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
A few weeks back, Motorola announced what devices would be getting the update to Android Marshmallow, however the question that most Motorola owners have been wondering is when the update is going to start rolling out. Well, if a post on Google+ by Motorola’s David Schuster is anything to go by, it would appear that a small number of people are already testing Android Marshmallow on the Moto X Pure Edition. However, Schuster was careful to clarify that this is not a soak test and that this testing would go for a few weeks before a soak test was started.
“There have been a couple reports of a Marshmallow “soak test” that has started for Moto X 2015 Pure Edition. Just want to make it clear that we have NOT started a formal “soak test”. We have started a small TestDrive for the Marshmallow upgrade on Moto X 2015 Pure Edition. We will be conducting these tests for the next couple of weeks. Pending the feedback during this test cycle will determine the timing of a full soak test.”
While it’s good to have visibility on Motorola’s update strategy, we can’t help but notice that Motorola is a sizeable step behind LG now in terms of update speed with LG announcing that its LG G4 would start being updated to Android Marshmallow by next week. Of course, the Moto X Pure Edition will still complete its update faster than the LG G4 thanks to a lack of carrier versions, but it’s a far cry from the days when Motorola would release its updates a mere few days after Google.
What do you think about Motorola’s update strategy? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Motorola Droid Turbo 2 marketed with shatterproof screen, Moto Maker; MAXX 2 with 48 hour battery
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Yesterday, we allegedly got a look at the yet-to-be-announced Motorola Droid Turbo 2 thanks to case manufacturer Qmadix, and today we’re adding more to the puzzle that will hopefully be unveiled on October 27th. Thanks to some leaked marketing material, we get a look at not only the Droid Turbo 2 again, but also the Droid Maxx 2 and a few of the features that Verizon is going to be marketing for their exclusive handsets. The major feature for the Droid Maxx 2 appears to be 48 hour battery life, whereas for the Droid Turbo 2 it’s being marketed with a shatterproof screen and Moto Maker customization, the same as with Motorola‘s other recently announced handsets, the Moto X Style and Moto X Play.
There’s a note in the material that says that you can trade-in a phone – even if it has a cracked screen – towards the Droid Turbo 2 or Droid Maxx 2 for an amount up to $300. Presumably the newer the device you’re trading in, the more you’ll get for it. There’s also something about being allowed “one design refresh” if you buy the 64GB Droid Turbo 2 – we’re not sure about the logistics of this, but presumably you’ll be allowed to replace the coloured parts of your Droid Turbo 2 if you get tired of how it looks. All-in-all, it sounds like Verizon is working pretty hard to get you to get the Droid Turbo 2 and Droid Maxx 2 with them – of course, we’ll have to wait till October 27th before all this is confirmed.
What do you think about these marketing materials? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
