Motorola Moto E and Moto G LTE are officially Announced
Earlier today, you may have seen our post about the Motorola Moto E being announced in India, a budget device aimed at emerging markets to try and replace feature phones. According to Motorola, feature phones (i.e. dumb phones) still make up around 70% of the total mobile phone population of the world, and the jump shouldn’t be so large to get access to an entry level Android smartphone. Enter the Moto E. In fact, today served as the official announcement for both the Motorola Moto E and Moto G LTE, the latter of which was an expected update for one of the best budget Android smartphones out there right now. The only difference with the Moto G LTE over the original Moto G is the inclusion of 4G LTE capability, which is going to be offered for $219 USD with no contract; the normal Moto G is also going to continue selling at its normal price, starting from $179.
The Moto E builds on the Moto G’s essence of simplicity and value, bundling a budget friendly dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB RAM, a microSD slot, a 1,980mAh battery and a 4.3-inch Gorilla Glass display, which if the Moto G is anything to go by should be a fantastic screen. Like Motorola’s other phones, the Moto E will have the latest Android 4.4.2 software and will have an assortment of coloured back covers to choose from. Probably most importantly, the Moto E is going to cost only $129 USD with no contract and will be available in over 40 countries very soon. It’s interesting that the Moto E is going to include a microSD slot since it was omitted on the Moto G and Moto X, but we’re not complaining.
Motorola looks like it’s kicking some important goals in the playing fields where the other Android manufacturers are struggling; the Moto G was a great precedent and the Moto E is surely going to continue Motorola’s good work in the budget smartphone market. What do you think about the Motorola Moto E and Moto G LTE?

The Moto G Ferrari Edition comes with Kevlar, Android 4.4 and will cost you a pretty 4,999 Pesos
In many markets around the world, the new Motorola Moto E and the Moto G LTE have just been announced, but in Mexico, they’ve gotten an additional little bonus from Motorola. There were rumours that there would also be a variant of the Moto G called the Moto G Ferrari Edition, which has been confirmed just today.
As you would expect, this is essentially a purely cosmetic variant with no changes to the Moto G hardware though it’s only going to be available with 16GB storage. Being a Ferrari branded phone, the Moto G Ferrari Edition will come adorned with Ferrari logos, a kevlar back cover, and a number of unspecified Ferrari accessories; probably let your imagination run wild on that one. The Moto G Ferrari Edition has been confirmed for sale in Mexico come sometime in June (same as the Moto G LTE) and will be going for 4,999 pesos (or about $390 USD); Motorola hasn’t specified whether this Moto G Ferrari Edition is going to be made available anywhere else in the world yet.

Motorola’s smartphones can now alert your close contacts in an emergency
You’ll usually want to call emergency services if you’re in truly dire straits, but the odds are that your friends and family also want to know if you need help. How do you reach them quickly? If you pick up the Moto E or Moto G LTE, you’ll have Motorola Alert at your disposal. The new app lets you trigger an emergency mode that sends regular alerts and location updates to important contacts. You can also tell people to meet up (at a shelter, for instance), and you can define your home or workplace to let people know that you’re in a familiar area. Alert won’t work on the Moto X or original Moto G until an update arrives in the near future, but you can still get a peek at it on Google Play if you’re curious.

Motorola Moto E officially launched in India at INR 6,999
Motorola has officially unveiled the Moto E at a press event in India. The Moto E is targeted towards the entry-level market and comes with hardware specifications lower than that of the Moto G which was released back in November last year. The Moto E comes with a 4.5 inch LCD screen, dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, 1 GB of RAM, Android 4.4.2 KitKat, 5 MP camera and 1980 mAh battery. The Motorola Moto E is priced at INR 6,999 ($117 USD) in India and will be exclusively available on Flipkart. Catered towards budget conscious users in the emerging markets like India, the Moto E comes with dual SIM card slots.
Motorola Moto E Specifications
- 4.3 inch LCD display, qHD (960 x 540 pixels) resolution, Gorilla Glass 3, Anti-Smudge Coating
- 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, Cortex A7 CPU, Adreno 302 GPU (400 MHz)
- 1 GB RAM, 4GB ROM, microSD card slot
- Android 4.4.2 KitKat, Stock Android UI
- 5 MP camera, FWVGA video recording (30 fps), No LED flash, No front-facing camera
- dual SIM, 3G + 2G, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GLONASS A-GPS, microUSB v2.0 port
- 12.3 mm thin (6.2 mm at edges), 142 grams
- 1980 mAh battery
The Motorola Moto E will compete with a host of entry-level Android and Windows Phone smartphones. In spite of its dirt cheap price, it comes with a decently high resolution screen, latest version of Android and anti-smudge coated Gorilla Glass 3 screen protection. The Moto E is surely to be a best-seller due to its value for money factor as well as a fact that most of the smartphones in its price range aren’t as decently equipped. Competitors in its price range are from local brands which are known for notorious build quality issues and lack of software updates.

Motorola adds LTE to its mid-range Moto G handset
Motorola’s Moto G was a great handset, but if we had a gripe, it was that it lacked a 4G modem. Last night, however, Amazon let it be known that a tweaked version of Motorola’s mid-ranger was coming, and this time it would be able to take advantage of super-fast mobile speeds. At the London launch of the Moto E, the company confirmed that the Moto G with LTE is real, and is even packing a microSD card slot, too. The unlocked handset is priced at £150 in the UK, while Amazon believes US pricing to be around $220 with a choice of black or white bodies — and both should be hitting retailers in the next few weeks.

Motorola launches the Moto E, a durable and affordable Android smartphone
It’s hard not to love the Moto G, it being an incredible handset for the asking price and the benchmark against which other affordable smartphones should be judged. A lot’s happened since that phone’s release, though, namely Lenovo’s acquisition of Motorola from Google. Motorola may be under new leadership now, but recognizes it’s on to a good thing with low-cost, high-value Android hardware, today announcing another smartphone of that nature, the Moto E. As a retailer leak suggested, the Moto E has slightly weaker specs than that of the G, with a 4.3-inch, 960 x 540 display, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, 1,980mAh battery, a 5-megapixel main camera and the dual-SIM capability that’s particularly popular in developing countries.

Universal LTE Moto G makes an appearance on Amazon ahead of tomorrows press event, ships June 30th for $219.99
Looks like leaks don’t always have to be from internal tipsters. Seems Amazon is jumping the gun on listing a device that doesn’t even officially exist yet. We all know Motorola is scheduled for an event tomorrow, or later today depending on where you live, in London. We all fully expect them to announce the Moto E, the Moto X+1 and apparently a universal LTE Moto G. At least a new set of links on Amazon would lead everyone to believe it.
The listing clearly shows a white and and a black Universal LTE Moto G. We know the original Moto G was limited to 3G speeds and that was quite a let down for many. Now it would seem that Motorola will be kicking the Moto G up a notch, at least int he data connection department, and will be offering up an LTE variant of the lower cost device. We assume the ‘Universal LTE” means it will ping off nearly every carrier out there that offers LTE data.
Clicking either of the links delivers you to a 404 page. However, if you click on the “ALL” box and scroll down, you can see the price tags and shipping details. Both will be Prime offered at a price tag of $219.99. It also shows the it is up for pre-order, we assume it will be officially live near the announcement, and will ship June 30th.

Interestingly enough, if you click on the Pre-Order option, it lets you get it ordered now. Not that I would do it with out a spec rundown to see if anything else, besides LTE, was added.
Anywho, feel free to keep an eye out tomorrow for when the specs and the rest of the pages actually go live. For your reference the black Universal LTE Moto G’s Amazon code is B00K0NRZSW and the white version is B00K0NS0P4. Here is to hoping the ULTE Moto G is a hit and has a few other tricks up its sleeves to warrant the $40 price jump.

Multiple Verizon Motorola DROID devices seeing KitKat OTA’s, others getting bug Fixes
It isn’t much of a secret that the Motorola DROID line of devices was the first line of Android powered devices that brought Motorola back into the spotlight. A curious amount of variants sprung up after the first DROID RAZR hit the scene and many of us were pretty excited to Motorola back in the game. It slowed a bit for them until the more recent Moto X and Moto G hit the scene. While the DROID line is aging, it isn’t entirely dead. Heck, I still know a few people locally that use their DROID RAZR MAXX daily and have no plans to trade it in anytime soon. If you happen to be one of those die hard DROID fans with Verizon then we have some great news for you. It looks like you probably have an update waiting for you.
That is correct, a rather large list of devices has hit the Verizon support pages and almost all of them are scheduled to be gaining Android 4.4.2 KitKat. That list includes the RAZR M, RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD. You guys will be looking at, not only an OS update, but also an updated version of the DROID zap app, security patches, Wi-Fi fixes and roaming issues resolved. The RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD will also be picking up some HDMI implementations, but the specifics aren’t clear yet.
On the other side of the coin, the DROID Mini, DROID Ultra and DROID MAXX also have a set of updates starting as well. Sadly, it isn’t Android 4.4.2 , yet. You guys will be getting some bug fixes and roaming enhancements along with the swap for the KitKat white notification icons in your status bar. We can only hope that these devices will see kKitKat 4.4.2 some time shortly after this obviously smaller maintenance update.
As always, these updates will be rolling out in stages. Don’t be surprised if you don’t see it immediately. You can always head into settings and ping for the update if you really want too. If you do see the update pop up, make sure you have well over 50% battery life, a solid Wi-Fi connection and some time to kill to download and install the file.
