Moto Maker hits Germany

moto_maker_colors

Motorola’s Moto Maker isn’t exactly a new service, but it’s an awesome one. Luckily for people in Germany, the service is now available there as well.

Similar to what we said about Moto Maker, Moto X is also not a new device. Far from it actually, considering we’re waiting for Motorola to announce Moto X+1, which is probably going to happen this summer. Still, Moto X is a great phone and if you want one and live in Germany you now have the option to customize it to you liking. The offer goes through Germany’s Phone House. So after you buy the phone from them you’ll get the option to customize it. You have 30 options for the back cover alone, black or white color option for the front, 12 color options for accents and finally you can put a custom message on the back case.

Anyone here still interested in the Moto X? From Germany by any chance?

Brazilian website leaks Motorola Moto X+1 Specs

There’s a lot going on in Brazil, in case you hadn’t noticed, but it’s not just the World Cup; a Brazilian website has supposedly leaked out the specs for the successor to Motorola‘s Moto X, the Moto X+1. The Motorola Moto X+1 specs allegedly include a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 800, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, […]

Moto X+1 specifications leak on a Brazilian website

Moto X____

We reported yesterday that Moto X+1 will allegedly launch alongside Moto 360 this summer and now we have some more information on the this long-awaited Motorola handset.

Livraria Logos (Logos Bookstore) is a Brazilian website which actually does have a track record when it comes to leaking Motorola information. It correctly leaked Moto E specifications a few days before the device launched. That gives it some level of credibility I guess.

Anyhow, this Brazilian page is in the middle of building a pre-order page for Moto X+1. According to it, Moto X+1 will sport a 5.2″ 1080p screen, 2GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 800 processor, 12MP camera on the back and a 5MP front-facing shooter. 32GB of memory should be on board (expandable via microSD card) and 2900mAh battery will allegedly take care of powering the device.

We can say this is a big leap when compared to Moto X. If they manage to keep its footprint small and the UI functional as it was the case with Moto X, this could be a great device. Assuming they’ll improve the camera as well of course. What do you think, would you buy something like this if we presume it will look similar to the Moto X?

Moto 360 will launch alongside Moto X+1 and will be a part of Moto Maker, report says

moto x+1 next to a moto 360___

Google announced lots of stuff on this year’s Google I/O. Android Wear was one of the most interesting for sure, considering this is Google’s shot at wearables, only smartwatches for now though. As a part of the I/O, Google briefly announced 3 smartwatches, LG G Watch, Samsung Gear Live and Motorola’s Moto 360. First 2 are already up for sale while the last one will be sometime this summer.

Different people like different things, but I’m gonna go ahead and say Moto 360 is definitely the best designed out of the bunch. That smartwatch looks just beautiful with its circular design. Well, PhoneArena’s source claims that Moto 360 will launch alongside Moto X+1, which is also one of the most expected devices this year. That would mean we’ll see Moto X+1 smartphone launch this summer as well. Oh yeah, the same source says that Moto 360 will be included in Motorola’s Moto Maker, in other words you’ll be able to customize that thing before you buy it. We don’t know how will that work, what exactly would you be able to customize, other than choosing the color of the watch and the bands included in the deal. Either way we spin it, those are some great news.

Are you going to buy one of the already available Android Wear smartwatches or are you going to wait for the Moto 360? If you’re not buying anything feel free to tell us your opinion in general of course.

Is that a Moto X+1 posing next to Moto 360?

moto x+1 next to a moto 360___

Motorola did confirm that they’re working on a Moto X successor, but they didn’t give us any details regarding its name or anything else for that matter. We’ve seen an alleged Moto X+1 render leak recently, though it was placed inside a case so we didn’t see the entire phone. This image isn’t exactly better, but at least it doesn’t have a case on it.

According to a TK Tech News this photo has been taken at Google I/O and it shows Moto X+1 next to a Moto 360 smartwatch. There is no way we can actually confirm this is a Moto X+1, but it looks thinner and bigger than the Moto X, at least from this angle. Moto X+1 will probably be announced in the coming months, maybe even alongside Moto 360. If that turns out to be true then we’ll see it rather soon, later this summer that is considering Moto 360 will be announced by then.

What do you think? Could this be a Moto X+1 or is it just a Moto X that looks different due to the angle this photo was taken in?

The three faces of Android Wear, compared

LG G Watch, Motorola Moto 360 and Samsung Gear Live

Google made much ado about the debut of Android Wear at its I/O conference keynote, and few would doubt that this is a potentially sea-changing move in the wearable space. However, the company didn’t do much to address the differences between the first smartwatches using its brand new platform. How are you supposed to know which wearable suits you? That’s where we can help out. We’ve taken a good look at this first batch — LG’s G Watch, Motorola’s Moto 360 and Samsung’s Gear Live — to see how they compete. And it’s a closer fight than you’d think. While all three have their charms, you’ll be making some sacrifices no matter which model you choose.

LG G Watch

LG G Watch

In many ways, LG’s G Watch is the template for Android Wear, the basic design that everyone will try to equal or beat. It has an unassuming steel chassis, a square display and a distinct lack of party tricks. Those aren’t necessarily knocks against it — if you’d rather not be flashy, this is the smartwatch for you. It also has a bigger battery than the Gear Live (400mAh versus 300mAh), so you could be looking at a longevity champ.

Having said all that, there are some worrisome points. Besides the fairly plain looks, it has a lower resolution (280 x 280), a thicker body (10mm) and a higher price ($229) than the Gear Live; if you only care about the raw numbers, you’re paying more to get less. And since LG’s rivals haven’t provided firm battery life estimates, we won’t know if the G Watch’s claimed 36-hour runtime is above-average for some time to come.

Samsung Gear Live

Samsung Gear Live

Design-wise, Samsung’s Gear Live strikes a balance between the plain G Watch and the posh Moto 360. It’s slimmer (8.9mm), sharper-looking (320 x 320) and more stylish than LG’s model, but not nearly the conversation starter that Motorola’s timepiece promises to be. It’s the only game in town if you’re a fitness maven, though; like its Gear 2 siblings, there’s a heart rate sensor that will let you know if your exercise is on track. At $200, the Gear Live may also be the cheapest of the lot.

You may want to see how the battery life works out in real life before you pull the trigger. Samsung is touting “all-day” usefulness, but it’s not saying how many hours you’ll get in practice. There’s a distinct possibility that LG or Motorola could come out ahead.

Motorola Moto 360

Moto 360 in black and silver

The Moto 360 has been the most buzzed-about Android Wear watch to date, and for good reason. In terms of style, there’s no contest — the round display and luxurious materials not only make this the best-looking Android Wear device so far, but the only one that could pass as a conventional watch at first glance. Motorola has also been far more eager to embrace third-party watch faces, some of which already use the circular layout to good effect. So long as you don’t mind a huge frame that would make Flavor Flav proud, it could easily be the frontrunner.

That is, so long as the specs pan out. Most everything about the Moto 360′s hardware is currently a mystery — Motorola still isn’t willing to divulge the battery life, performance, price or storage. There are hints that the exotic form factor could lead to a price tag around $249 or higher, and that big screen may be power-hungry. If you’re reluctant to risk making any major compromises in the name of fashion, we’d recommend waiting until more details emerge this summer.

Contest-winning Moto 360 watch face blends classic looks with modern tech

David Pascual's winning Moto 360 watchface design

Motorola has been running a watch face design contest to spark interest in developing for its upcoming Moto 360 wristwear, and it looks like the company’s efforts have hit the jackpot. The winning design from David Pascual is a clever blend between a traditional timekeeper and the at-a-glance alerts you’d expect from Android Wear. On top of basic status info, the watch face also has customizable notification widgets; you’ll know right away if you have new Gmail or a low battery. Pascual’s effort is just eye candy right now, but that may change soon. Winning the competition could get his design featured on the Moto 360, so you may have a chance to check it out first-hand before long.

Moto 360 smartwatch makes an appearance at Google I/O

Samsung’s Gear Live and LG’s G Watch have already been manhandled today at Google I/O 2014, and now it’s time to do the same to the third inaugural Android Wear device, the Moto 360. We’ve already heard much about the watch’s unique circular design and have gotten some sneak peeks at the various watch faces that are coming to take advantage of it. Today, however, I finally got my mitts on one, and I can assure you it’s as well put together in person as the press shots have shown previously.

The Moto 360 strikes a stunning pose on your wrist, particularly in its stainless steel (as opposed to black) garb. Fit and finish of the devices we saw was top notch. The chamfered edges of both the glass covering the screen and that metal housing lend it a luxurious look and feel, and the thick, split leather strap is premium, too. We thought it odd that the company chose to have the glass extend beyond the watch’s metal housing, when the trend in mobile screens is for there to be zero gap between the surface of the glass and the pixels beneath them.

So, we asked Lior Ron, Motorola’s wearable products lead, why his watch design went the other way. He informed us that it’s a “nod to the premium watch aesthetic” he wanted to achieve with the 360, as many regular watches have chamfered glass, too. That bit of design flair has the added benefit of showing off the circular display to the fullest — looking closely reveals that pixels are packed from edge to edge, no cutting corners.

For now, that’s really all we can tell you about the 360 — that it’s a beautiful and sizable smartwatch. Like LG and Samsung, Motorola had the 360 running a demo mode of Android Wear, so we couldn’t get a feel for how the watch actually will work. That said, Motorola’s on its way to proving that sometimes, it’s not hip to be a square.

Samsung Gear Live, LG G Watch, Moto 360 availability announced

samsung-gear-live

Hopefully you’ve all been watching Google I/O! If not, Google have updated us on the availability of some of the upcoming Android Wear devices.

The LG G Watch, if you haven’t yet preordered it, will be available on Google Play later today. They’ve also announced the Samsung Gear Live, Samsung’s take on a watch running Android Wear. There are no specifications released for the watches quite yet, but we’ll definitely have some more info later in the day.

And now for the Moto 360. Unfortunately, this is the only Wear watch that we know of that isn’t available today. The only info we have about it is that it will launch “later this Summer.”

Pricing is yet to be released for any of the watches, so we’ll update you as we get the information.

Moto G with LTE and expandable storage is now available for £160

The Moto G is a fantastic smartphone for the price, but Motorola knew it could make the handset even better with just a few small tweaks. Thus, the Moto G with LTE and expandable storage (thanks to a microSD slot) was born, and today it’s become available in the UK after launching in the US last week. Phones 4u has declared first dibs on the device, and is offering the phone free from £19 per month on contracts, for £150 on pay-as-you-go, or £160 unlocked — the retailer is also claiming exclusivity on the new white model until the end of July. A number of other sites are expecting stock sometime this week, at which point we hope to see a repeat of the discounted pricing war that was fought over the Moto G shortly after launch. Hold off a week or two, and we imagine you’ll be throwing £20-£30 less at your screen. Bargain.
