Leaked Moto X (2015) images suggest front-facing flash and fingerprint in speaker

The Moto X (2015) should be right around the corner, as Motorola has been making it a habit to release its flagship phones sometime between August and September. As you can expect, the rumor mill is going full speed and is not stopping anytime soon. More images and details have emerged today, coming from Peruvian Facebook page ‘Perú Android’.
The Facebook page is very active and claims to have gotten these images and details from an anonymous source. Perú Android is clear to say they can’t really confirm the information’s validity 100%, but the evidence does look enticing. For starters, the leak tells us the phone should come with a 2K display and a 21 MP rear-facing camera.

This is not necessarily huge news, but it’s what the images showcase that has us scratching our heads. These photos suggest the phone will come with an integrated front-facing flash, solving your low-light selfie woes (which we touched on just yesterday). In addition, the rumored fingerprint reader may have a rather unique placement. Instead of putting it in the back, this source claims Motorola opted to build the fingerprint sensor right into the lower front speaker.

If this is the case, the new Moto X would be the first device in which any major manufacturer manages to seamlessly integrate a fingerprint sensor without wasting too much space. Others have a dedicated spot for the reader, or opt to integrate it into the home button. By implementing this new technique, Motorola would effectively be able to keep a low bezel-to-screen ratio and still add biometric functionality.
As with any rumor, you should take this with a healthy dose of salt. Not even Perú Android is completely sure about this information, so you shouldn’t hold your breath on it, either. As for additional specs, other rumors say the Moto X (2015) should feature a Snapdragon 808 processor, 4 GB of RAM, a 5.2-inch QHD screen and a 3280 mAh battery.

We should be able to confirm all official details in some days, once Motorola takes the stage this July 28th. In the meantime, enjoy the images and let us know what you think about the new rumors. Were you hoping for a front-facing flash? Do you prefer Motorola’s possible new fingerprint sensor location?
Alleged Motorola Moto X (2015) images show front-facing camera with flash
The quality of front-facing cameras has improved dramatically over the last twenty-four months. Taking a picture with a front-facing camera, or a ‘selfie’ for that matter, now produces results that are worth sharing. Companies like HTC and Sony have even released devices with flash on the front to really maximize performance. Flagships, though, have yet to start including front-facing flash. This summer, that could change with the introduction of the Moto X (2015). Images shared online today show what is allegedly Motorola’s next flagship and a front-facing camera paired with flash is present.
Hit the break to see the image.
As with all Motorola devices, this one seems to have an entertaining boot animation.
Nothing out of the ordinary here. If anything, the display seems taller than its predecessor; however, that could be due to the angling of the photograph.
The new versions of Motorola’s Moto X and Moto G are expected to be unveiled at a company event held on July 28.

AT&T pauses Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the Moto X (1st Gen.)

Not more than two weeks ago AT&T began rolling out the update to Android 5.1 Lollipop to the 2013 Motorola Moto X. If you have yet to receive that update, it unfortunately looks like you’ll have to wait even longer to get a taste of Lollipop. According to the Moto X support page on AT&T’s website, effective July 20th, the update to Android 5.1 for this device has been suspended.
The carrier didn’t offer up any reasoning behind this delay, but it does say that it apologizes for any inconvenience and it is working to resolve the issue as quickly as it can.

We’re not exactly sure if Moto X owners have been experiencing too many bugs after updating or if AT&T is having problems rolling it out to users. This is a significant software update (from 4.4.4 KitKat to 5.1 Lollipop), so it’s not all too surprising that there could be some bugs in the update. We’ll be sure to keep you updated if we hear anything from the carrier.
If you’ve updated your AT&T Moto X to Android 5.1, have you experienced any problems? If so, let us know in the comments!
New Moto Hint shows up on Best Buy’s website
Earlier today, we showed off how the Moto Hint was reduced in price from $149.99 down to $79.99 and asked if this was possibly a “hint” towards a new version coming out. Well thanks to a user on Google+, it seems that Motorola did just that, and has released an updated version of the Hint.
According to the Product Features on the Best Buy page, there are a few updated features that come along with the 2nd Gen Moto Hint.
- Bluetooth 3.0 + EDR Technology
- CrystalTalk noise and wind canceling technology
- Voice Control
- Rechargeable Battery up to 17 hours of talk-time
The biggest change here is the battery life. The first generation of the Moto Hint had a talk time battery life of 10 hours, the new version is touted to have a battery life of 17 hours worth of talk time. On top of the fact that the Hint still comes with a charging case for whenever you’re out of juice.
Finally, the price for the 2nd generation Moto Hint is down from $149.99, and instead is now being sold at $129.99 for a brand new one. If you’re still interested in picking up the old one, you can grab one from the Motorola website, but there are no signs of the new one being available anywhere other than Best Buy at this moment.
Please let us know what you think about the updated Moto Hint and whether you’ll be springing for the new version or just sticking with the 1st generation in the comments below. If there are anymore details released about this new version, we will be sure to let everyone know.

Moto Hint gets price slashed down to $80
Motorola is having a bit of a fire sale right now. The Moto X 2014 is down to $299.99, the Moto 360 is down to $149.99, and now Motorola’s Bluetooth ear piece, the Moto Hint, is down to $79.99 from $149.99.
We aren’t sure if this is a sign that Motorola is planning to update all of these products, or if this is just part of a calculated sale to get some extra stock out of the warehouse. Regardless of that, the almost 50% price cut of the Moto Hint is a great deal for anyone looking for a new Bluetooth earpiece.
The Moto Hint was released last year and while you can use it with other devices, this works best when paired with the Moto X 2014. This is due to the fact that you can get all the information the comes through your phone, such as notifications, messages, and of course phone calls, through the Hint ear piece.
The biggest issue that the Moto Hint seems to have is its’ battery life. The Hint touts a battery life of only 3 hours, however the charging cradle will allow for up to two full charges of the Hint. But that doesn’t seem to have really hindered folks from giving the Hint some good reviews.
With the colossal price drop, are you now interested in picking up the Moto Hint? Do you already have one and want to tell us about it? Just drop a comment below and let us know your thoughts.

Motorola set to live stream new device announcement July 28th

Motorola has announced that it is prepared to make “Your relationship status change” on July 28th with a live streaming announcement. Certainly they will be making the 2015 Moto X and 2015 Moto G device announcements. We are also hoping they might make a new Moto 360 announcement too. Looking at the invite image one could see that the X and G are more than likely all we will see. Assuming you read into the image’s lettering. The XOX looks like XGX, or even X6X. That ‘O’ just isn’t right really.
As hopeful as we are about the next Moto 360, nothing leads us to believe it will make its way to the stage. Instead, this will be a phone announcement. The verbiage on Motorola’s own page seems to prove that. The 2015 Moto G has been leaked and covered quite a bit over the last month or so. It looks like it will get a refreshed design and is even being reported to gain Moto Maker ordering abilities this year. A nice way to customize the solid mid-tier device. Spec rumors for include a Snapdragon 410, 5-inch 720p display, 1GB RAM and a 13MP rear camera. Quite a bump on the camera front for a mid-tier device. Hopefully the camera quality is solid and the price remains under $200 for standard device options.
If you click-through to the “Find out more” all you get is a sign-up page to ‘learn more about your perfect moto match” and some blank fields for your name and email address.
If you want to catch the announcement first hand you can watch the live stream on July 28th at 9 a.m. ET. That equates to 6 a.m. PST. I am assuming, for now, that if you bookmark www.motorola.com/hellomoto they will update the page prior to the event for the video feed. I am probably wrong. When I have a definitive link I’ll post it up for everyone.

Alleged images of Motorola lineup of new devices shows up
A new image has surfaced on the Facebook page for hellomotoHK which purports to show the back side of four forthcoming Motorola devices. The image claims to show a Droid “Mini” device, the third generation Moto G, a new Droid device, and a third generation Moto X. Assuming the information is accurate, the Droid devices should be hitting Verizon sometime this fall adorned with what appears to be a Kevlar inspired design for the back cover.
Considering how some of the lines are not aligned, the image may be a rather poorly done PhotoShop. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Chilean telecom leaks Moto X Sport and 3rd gen Moto G
Chilean tech blog Pisapapeles recently obtained information from a reliable source within Chilean telecom Entel, that leaks a new variant of the Moto X and the next generation Moto G.
The new variant of the Moto X is called the Moto X Sport and boasts the following specs.
- 5.2″ Screen (current generation: 5.2″)
- 1.5 GHz quad-core processor (current generation: 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor)
- 16MP rear facing camera (current generation: 13MP)
- 5MP front facing camera (current generation: 2MP)

Moto G spec leaks
- 5″ Screen (current generation: 5″)
- 1.4 GHz quad-core processor (current generation: 1.2 GHz Snapdragon quad-core processor)
- 13MP rear facing camera (current generation: 8MP)
- 5MP front facing camera (current generation: 2MP)

While the Moto G’s specs seem like a natural evolution, it’s unclear why the Moto X Sport would change to a slower processor. It could be a misprint, carrier speculation, or just wrong information. What do you think? Is this legit? Sound off in the comments.

Android 5.1 Lollipop now rolling out to the AT&T Motorola Moto X (1st Gen.)

If you’re the lucky owner of a Motorola Moto X (1st Gen.) on AT&T’s network, you’ll be happy to hear that the update to Android 5.1 Lollipop is now making its way to your device. The update comes in at a hefty 701MB download and will bring your device’s system version up to 222.26.1.

You’ll now be able to manage your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections directly from the quick settings panel, and you should notice a few other improvements to the screen pinning functionality, system volume controls, and more. Aside from a few other improvements on Motorola’s side, our own Joe Hindy made an informative video that lays out most of the big changes you’ll find in the update. Check it out below:
As is the case with most other updates, it might take a few days to make its way to your device. To check for your update manually, head to Settings>About phone>System update>Check for update. Be sure to let us know when it comes to your device!
