[Deal] Google celebrates ‘Dads and Grads’ with Nexus 6 discount and Nexus 9 bonus
Right now, the Google Store has promotions running for both the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.
The Nexus 6, which normally starts at $649, has been discounted by $150 for a limited time. This puts the 32GB model at $499 and the 64GB at $549. Since there is not a promotion label anywhere on the product’s Google Store listing, we would assume that it will not be sticking around for long. Not a bad price considering that software updates are guaranteed for the Nexus 6.
Purchasing the Nexus 9 does not come with a discount, though. The Google Store will instead include a $50 Google Play credit when the tablet is purchased by June 23. The code for the credit will be emailed upon the Nexus 9 shipping and must be redeemed by September 23.
All items include free shipping.
Here are some other promotions that the Google Store is running in honor of ‘Dads and Grads’:
- Save $100 on the Motorola Moto 360
- Save $50 on the Sony SmartWatch 3
- Save $20 on the Nexus Player
- $70 in offers with Chromecast

Now that Google I/O 2015 is over, where was the new Moto 360?

Rumours are never an exact science, but we like to think that rumours coupled with history make some pretty accurate predictions. Unfortunately, our predictions for an announcement of the new Moto 360 did not come true at Google I/O 2015 with the event winding up today, which poses the question: when are we going to see the new Moto 360? We had thought an announcement was imminent as a Motorola device codenamed BTMW03 visited Bluetooth SIG just two weeks ago – spin the clocks back one year, and a Motorola device codenamed BTMW01 visited Bluetooth SIG days before it was announced by Motorola, and took on a starring role at Google I/O 2014.
Here’s what else we think know so far. The new Moto 360 is internally codenamed “Smelt”, after the delta smelt species of fish – the original Moto 360 was codenamed “Minnow”, which is probably somewhat of a lingering artifact from Motorola’s time under Google. We’ve also had suggestions that the new Moto 360 would be announced “early” in 2015, but with June bearing down on us, “early” seems like it’s going out the door pretty quick. At this point, with many of our previous rumours fading away, we’re stumped as to when Motorola might be making an announcement for the new Moto 360, so we’ll just have to go back to being patient.
When do you think the new Moto 360 is going to be announced? Let us know your guess in the comments below.

Lenovo shows off dual-screen Magic View concept smartwatch

At its Tech World event in Beijing today, Lenovo has showcased a new concept smartwatch that aims to address some of the main concerns with current wearable devices. Alongside the circular display, which is synonymous with the Moto 360 smartwatch, the Magic View concept has a second screen which is located between the watch face and the wrist strap.
setTimeout(function()
brightcove.createExperiences();
,
1000);
The display uses a “Virtual Interactive Display” and according to Lenovo, this can help overcome small smartwatch displays by letting you viewing larger maps or photos through the secondary screen. Lenovo claims the VID can allow you to view images up to 20 times the normal size of the watch face and can also be used to display private information that you would rather not show on your main watch face.
Talking at the TechWorld keynote, Lenovo CTO Peter Hortensius said that the company had to develop more than 120 patents in order to make the Magic View concept a reality, including the world’s thinnest touch displays. Hortensius says that Magic View is still a concept product but did point out that the company’s Yoga tablet range started out as a concept before becoming one of the company’s major product lines.

When will Magic View be introduced in a consumer product and will it ship under the Lenovo or Motorola brands? Will it be used in the Moto 360 (2015) edition? We’ll be keeping a close eye on Lenovo in the months ahead and we’ll bring you more info when we have it.
A pretty penny: Huawei Watch could cost around $100 more than its competitors

The Moto 360 is an obvious first place when it comes to looks in the Android Wear world, but there is a very close second in the Huawei Watch. However, while the Moto 360 is relatively well priced among its competitors, there’s been a very big question mark around the price of Huawei‘s smartwatch after an Amazon listing put a price tag of $1000 next to the Watch. We’re learning today that it’s almost definitely not going to cost a grand, but it’s not going to be that cheap either. According to listings made on retailer MobileFun’s website, the Huawei Watch is going to start at $386.99 USD for the silver and black versions, and stretching up to $451.49 USD for the gold version.
How much can we trust these listings? As always, we have to take it with our usual grain of salt, but these pricings seem the most logical we have seen so far. That said, that would make the Huawei Watch more than $100 more expensive than its Android Wear compatriots – for reference, MobileFun is offering the leather Moto 360 variants for $257.99 USD. That puts the Huawei Watch in direct pricing competition with the LG Watch Urbane, the only other ‘premium’ Android Wear smartwatch, and although it has the advantage in the looks department, we still wonder how much of a market there is for ‘premium’ smartwatches.
What do you think about this pricing for the Huawei Watch? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Motorola slashes $100 off the price of the Moto 360
Earlier today, Motorola lowered the cost of the Moto 360 by $100 on its website, so you can now pick one up for $149. This move strengthens rumors that the company is almost ready to launch its second-generation smartwatch.
The Moto 360 isn’t old hat by any means, though. It’s still one of the best and most reliable wearables currently on the market and is set to receive the Android 5.1.1 update in the coming weeks, which will transport a bunch of new features to the device.
If you’re in the market for a Moto 360 and want to bag yourself one for the reduced price of $149, hit the source link below.

Deal Alert: $100 off Moto 360 at Best Buy

It seems like there’s a never ending stream of deals for the Moto 360 and Best Buy has another good one, if you still have gotten around to purchasing your smartwatch yet. We are not sure exactly when the deal will end, but Best Buy is offering $100 off the Moto 360 right now, complete with a full selection of color and wrist band options.
The cheapest Moto 360 can now be grabbed for just $149.99 in the standard black option, while the champagne gold color with matching wristband will set you back slightly more at $229.99. The fully stainless steel designs are priced at $199.99. As usual, Best Buy is also throwing in free delivery, for most locations, and you can always click-and-collect in store.
Of course, there is Google I/O and the likelihood of some new Android Wear announcements right around the corner, and with it, the possibility of some new hardware later this year too. Although that doesn’t stop this offer from being quite a good deal.

Deal: Moto G and Moto 360 together for just $299 — but only until 4PM EST!
Motorola is no stranger when it comes to special deals and promos, though most of the time these offers center around their flagship Moto X. Not this time. From now until just 4PM EST (1PM PST), Motorola is offering up the Moto G (2nd gen) and the Moto 360 as a combo deal for just $299 — a savings of $129!
It’s only a matter of time before a 2nd-gen Moto 360 surfaces, and the Moto G (2015) probably isn’t too terribly behind, but for those that aren’t concerned about necessarily having the “latest and greatest”, this is still a heck of deal.

As a brief recap, the Moto G (2014) is powered by a Snapdragon 400 with 1GB RAM, with other specs including 8GB storage, microSD, a 5-inch 720p display, an 8MP main cam, 2MP front cam, a 2070 mAh battery, and Android 4.4 KitKat (upgradeable to Lollipop). The Moto 360 on the other hand, is powered by a TI processor with 512MB RAM, and was the first circular smartwatch on the market. When it comes to software, you get the Android Wear OS and basically all the same functionality you’d find on any other AW smartwatch on the market.
So how about it, anyone jumping on this offer? Let us know in the comments!
