Deal: FreedomPop now offering an LG Optimus F3 and one month of unlimited service for just $29

Customers shouldn’t have to pay an arm and a leg every month just to use their smartphones. There are a few mobile carriers out there who have been trying to eliminate extra monthly costs to their customers, but few have brought down their prices as much as FreedomPop, the Californian mobile service provider. Normally a 4G LTE-capable smartphone with a data plan on any other carrier would run you around $40 to $50 per month, and that’s after purchasing the smartphone separately. But in a new promotion from FreedomPop, you can get a 4G LTE smartphone and a one-month trial of the service for just $29.
The smartphone being offered by the carrier is a certified pre-owned LG Optimus F3, and with that you’ll get a one-month free trial of FreedomPop’s Unlimited Everything plan, which includes unlimited calling, texting and data – no strings attached. Once your free trial is up, you can either downgrade to FreedomPop’s 100% free monthly plan (200 minutes, 500 texts, 500MB of data per month), or take advantage of any of the carrier’s other affordable plans. Other plans include unlimited talk, text and 500MB of data for $10.99 per month, or go with the Unlimited Everything plan for $19.99 per month.

Wondering what you’ll get with the Optimus F3? This device features a 4-inch LCD display, a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM, expandable memory up to 32GB and a 5MP rear-facing camera. No, this isn’t the most high-end smartphone on the market, but it’s the perfect device for children or older folks who want to try out a smartphone for the first time. It’s also great for use a secondary line, or for those that are really tight on money.
Want to take advantage of this deal? It’s easy. Simply head to the deal link below, enter your information, and FreedomPop will send you the smartphone and your SIM card – you don’t even have to pay for shipping. As always, if you have any questions regarding this deal, be sure to leave a comment below so we can help you out. Interested in Freedompop but want a more upscale device? Also be sure to check out the AA Deals Store’s offer for a Nexus 5 running on Freedompop for $200.
LG sees its future in smartphones and cars
If you had to summarize LG’s financial health in a few seconds, you could just shrug and say “life’s good.” That’s because the Korean company is one of the few in the technology industry right now that’s actually making a decent profit from the hardware it sells. In the last three months, the company managed to get 15.4 million smartphones out the door, largely due to the fact that LG phones are getting more popular in the US. It may not be an exciting thing to write about, but the company’s white goods arm also brought home a sizeable chunk of cash.
On the home entertainment side, the company saw a dip in profits that it’s blaming on exchange rates, not to mention the fact that not too many people buy a TV in January. That is, however, not the most interesting tidbit that can be gleaned from the document, which concern LG’s plans in the automotive space.
LG Vehicle Components was a new division founded in July 2013, but this is the first time that its activities have been publicly discussed by the company. Right now, the unit isn’t making any money — in fact, it lost $2.18 million — but executives believe that, as demand for smart and electric cars increases, it’ll become a big earner. If you weren’t already convinced that the tech industry is about to revolutionize transportation, perhaps the fact that Google, Tesla, Apple, Tencent, Baidu and LG are all now operating in the space will change your mind.

LG Watch Urbane now available at AT&T
The LG Watch Urbane is already available from Google and Verizon Wireless, and now it’s available at AT&T. For starters, it’s only available online, but it will hit stores on May 15.
Unfortunately, just like Verizon Wireless, AT&T is only offering the Silver option. The price is the same as Google and Verizon, which is $349. However, the best deal might be Verizon since they are offering Free two day shipping, while Google and AT&T only offer standard shipping for Free.

LG G4: official product video
The LG G4 was officially unveiled yesterday and we’ve already had a pretty good initial look at what the flagship smartphone has to offer. LG, of course, is keen to highlight where its smartphone stands out and has released an official product video for the G4. See above.
Contained within, you’ll find a huge emphasis on the phone’s camera, in fact a fair amount of the video’s contains footage captured by a G4 attached to a flying drone. The results are rather impressive, especially thanks to the phone’s optical image stabilization. The sample photography that LG released yesterday has already shown off some impressive stills as well, and we’ll certainly be testing to see how it stacks up against the competition.
There’s also a look at some of LG’s new and improved software features, such as Smart Bulletin and the improved calendar app, and of course the stylish leather cover features a lot too. Interestingly, specifications are almost entirely absent. There’s only a fine-print mention of the phone’s QHD display resolution, rather LG is keen to focus on improvements to color and brightness.
What do you think about LG’s focus on the camera and look of its device rather than raw spec numbers? Refreshing or disappointing?

Can’t wait for the LG G4 to be announced? Do you need some juicy info to tide you over the next few hours? Well, you’re in luck, because we get to take a sneak peek at what the LG G4’s box is going to look like. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the box is relatively unassuming with only a sticker on the top of it to denote it as a box for LG‘s latest flagship device. If we take a look at the rear of the box, we get a look at some of the hardware that we have been expecting, like a Snapdragon processor, the 8MP front camera, 16MP rear camera and a 3,000mAh battery. Check out the leaked photos below:
As far as leaks go, it’s not all that informative, as we basically know everything there is to know about the LG G4 already, but as its announcement event bears down on us (4 and a half hours and counting), we wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more tidbits before the fireworks start. Make sure you tune in to the livestream here at 15:00 GMT.

A bold claim: LG plans on selling 12 million LG G4’s

LG‘s latest flagship, the LG G4, was made official earlier today and it looks to be every bit as good as we expected (because we knew everything already). Not too long ago though, analysts were spinning a sad tale for the LG G4, saying that it was not going to sell as many handsets as its predecessor, the LG G3, did. The analysts attributed this largely to the unfavourable market conditions thanks to barnstorming sales by the Samsung Galaxy S6 and its curvy brother, the Galaxy S6 Edge. Furthermore, the Snapdragon 808 processor would be a key differentiator for some consumers. Even so, LG is confident that it is going to sell 12 million LG G4’s – the LG G3 sold around 10 million handsets, for reference.
We’ll have to see whether LG’s bold prediction can, or will, come true, though the device has a lot going right for it. A fantastic new camera and probably the best Quad HD display on the market at the moment immediately jump off the page, but most everything else is similar or a marginal upgrade over its predecessor, and that’s not a bad thing. And for the fashion conscious, genuine leather back covers are now available for the LG G4, and in more colour options than the plastic variants.
What do you think of the LG G4’s chances to sell 12 million handsets? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

LG reports strong Q1 profits as mobile sales strengthen

LG Electronics has just announced its unaudited financial results for the first quarter of 2015 and it’s a particularly strong start to the year for the company’s communications (smartphone) division.
In total, LG posted a first quarter net profit of KRW 38.4 billion (USD 34.91 million) and an operating profit of KRW 305.2 billion (USD 277.45 million), both of which are up from the previous quarter. However, revenues remained stagnant compared with the first quarter of 2014, stuck at KRW 13.99 trillion (USD 12.72billion). The reason for this is a decline in revenue generated by LG TVs, but soaring smartphone sales have helped to offset this.
LG smartphone shipments grew by 26 percent year-on-year
Looking specifically at mobile, sales revenue is up 5 percent from the same quarter last year, reaching KRW 3.6 trillion (USD 3.27 billion). Smartphone shipments grew by an impressive 26 percent over the last 12 months, reaching 15.4 million units this quarter. North America was the biggest growth region for LG, with a 66 percent shipment increase compared with last year. Korea saw a similarly impressive 57 percent growth in sales, thanks to the popularity of the rather unique LG G Flex 2.
As for the rest of the business, the Home Entertainment Company saw first quarter operating profits decline by 5 percent year on year KRW 4.44 trillion (USD 4.03billion), while its home appliance company saw a year-on-year gain of 9 percent to KRW 229.3 billion (USD 208.45 million). Finally, LG’s Vehicle Component Company, a relatively new division setup in July 2013, recorded revenues of KRW 382.6 billion (USD 347.82 million) and an operating loss of KRW 2.4 billion (USD 2.18 million).
Overall, LG looks to be continuing to build on its success in the mobile market, having released a strong line-up of high-end and mid-range products for various markets. The mobile division is growing particularly well, although the competitive nature of the market appears to be taking some toll on LG’s margins.
With the newly unveiled LG G4 set to hit the global market in June, we’ll have to wait for the company’s third quarter results to judge the impact of this year’s flagship.

LG G4 to officially launch in the UK on May 28
LG has a wide following on a global scale, even more so in regions of Asia, Europe and North America. And one of the company’s prime markets, United Kingdom has been confirmed to be getting the newly launched G4 flagship starting May 28.
Although this is still a month away from now, it’s good to know that LG has an official release timeframe to share with us. As for the American markets, the LG G4 has already been announced by Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint, with launch expected sometime next month as well.
Overall, it seems like LG will oversee a wide global launch in May, leaving no country from the list. The company claims that launch in other global markets will follow soon as we head into June.

LG G4 is alone: Is a removable battery still a must have feature for you?

We are now four months into the year and have already seen a number of flagship devices from HTC, Sony, Samsung, and Huawei. All of these phones have numerous differences that set them apart, but at least one thing in common: they don’t offer user-replaceable batteries.
Samsung has long been one of the last bastions of hope for those looking for power user features like removable batteries and microSD. For a while it seemed likely that both of these traditional smartphone features would go the way of the dinosaur, with many major OEMs like LG, HTC, and Motorola moving away from supporting these options. Thankfully, the trend towards ditching microSD has slowed, with HTC jumping back on the microSD train with the One M8 and LG with the LG G3. The same can’t be said for removable batteries.

This leaves the LG G4 as the sole option for those who want a major 2015 flagship with support for removable batteries.
Removable batteries are increasingly less common, with Samsung devices and the LG G3 some of the only major flagships in 2014 to offer user-removable batteries. Now fast-forwarding to 2015, Samsung has ironically dropped support for removable backs, batteries, and microSD with its Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge flagships. This leaves the LG G4 as the sole option for those who want a major 2015 flagship with support for removable batteries. Sure, there are likely a number of mid-rangers or lesser known devices with the feature even today, but the bigger players in the industry just don’t seem to care about removable backs anymore.

With battery demands increasing with QHD displays and quad, octa and hex-core processors, it seems a bit odd that we’ve reached a point where removable backs and batteries are now quite a rarity. It still remains unseen how the rest of 2015 will play out and whether the Note 5 will follow the GS6’s footsteps but we have to ask — do you still care? Is a removable battery a nice ‘extra’ for you as a consumer, or an absolute must have? Let us know what you think in the poll below.
