Two Nexus smartphones in 2015, rumours say, and no tablets on the horizon

We’ve been hearing conflicting rumours in the past few weeks regarding which manufacturer could be making Nexus smartphones this year. Huawei and LG are the two front runners, however, a rumour today has perhaps made the discussion a little easier – according to said rumour, there will be two Nexus smartphones in 2015 due out around October, one from Huawei, and one from LG. Now wasn’t that easy?

These devices are allegedly codenamed the LG “Angler” and Huawei “Bullhead“, and I’m sure we’re all hoping these devices don’t take inspiration from their namesake because both those fish are hideous. Joking aside, the LG device is expected to be a 5.2-inch device with a Snapdragon 808 processor and 2,700mAh battery and the Huawei a 5.7-inch device with Snapdragon 810 and 3,500mAh battery, which fits in with previous rumours which say that the Huawei device will be based on the yet-to-be-announced Ascend Mate 8. Another point worth noting from this rumours is that there will be no tablet to replace the Nexus 9 this year.

Two Nexus phones coming from LG and Huawei while the Nexus 9 sticks around

Nexus_5_Back_Slanted_Nexus_Logo_TA

This year, the Nexus lineup from Google could look slightly different. The company is allegedly preparing to offer two Nexus phones in the Google Store while an existing device remains available.

LG and Huawei will each produce their own Nexus phone, according to Android Police. The code names attached to the phones are Angler and Bullhead, respectively. The LG Angler is set to have a 5.2-inch display, Snapdragon 808 processor, and 2700mAh battery. The Huawei Bullhead raises the size with a 5.7-inch display, Snapdragon 810 processor, and 3500mAh battery. The LG Angler would be closer to the Nexus 5 while the Huawei Bullhead resembles a newer Nexus 6. Rather than changing its gameplan entirely, Google is going for a refreshed lineup.

They are to be joined by the Nexus 9 that was released in late 2014. Google seems to find their flagship tablet in no need of change.

The two phones are expected to be released around October, the usual time for Nexus devices to arrive. All of this could change, of course, as we progress into the summer.

Launched only a few weeks ago, the LG G4 aims to be a no-compromise smartphone. It offers microSD card expansion and a removable battery, two features that the competition has left behind in recent models. On top of that, the G4 has a 5.5-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560, a Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM and a big 3000mAh battery. It also has one of the best cameras we’ve ever seen on a smartphone to date, and comes in a variety of different premium materials. If you’d like a more detailed look at the handset, be sure to check out our full review.

Buy an LG G4, get a free memory card and spare battery

lg g4 review aa (25 of 34)

One of the best things about the LG G4 is that it offers both a microSD card slot and a removable battery, two hardware features that aren’t present on the Samsung Galaxy S6 and a number of recent handsets from various manufacturers. In order to showcase these features, LG has launched a new special offer that will give purchasers of the LG G4 a free 32GB microSD card,  an extra battery, and a battery charging cradle.

According to LG’s marketing materials for this promo, the offer gives G4 owners “double battery, double memory, zero cost”, and it’s certainly a compelling offer, though it’s not without caveats. First, this deal is only offered to U.S. customers. Second, the promotion is only good for handsets purchased before the cut-off date of June 21st.

It is worth noting that LG’s special offer doesn’t just apply to handsets purchased directly from their website, but also from any authorized seller including Amazon, Best Buy, and even carrier stores. To claim your prize first head to LG’s website, and they will need a few things from you:

  • Print out the form. Note that LG needs to receive it by July 13.
  • Take a picture of the device’s IMEI and your sales receipt.

Does this offer make you more inclined to purchase the LG G4 over other devices? If you’re still on the fence about the LG G4, be sure to check out our full review.

Best Buy offering $100 gift card with LG G4, lists release dates

lg_g4_best_buy

Best Buy has launched their pre-order page for the LG G4 and in an effort to entice buyers to stop by one of their stores instead of going directly to the carriers, they are offering a $100 gift card with the purchase of the G4. That could be useful for users who want to add a case or car charger or some other accessory to their order. The pre-order page also lists release dates for several carriers and colors of the smartphone.

As previously suspected, Verizon versions of the LG G4 will be available starting June 4th. Best Buy is listing Metallic Gray, Ceramic White and Deep Blue versions for Verizon for $199.99 with a two-year contract.

The next day the Sprint version of the G4 will be available in gray or blue or with the new leather back in black. AT&T will have the same options available through Best Buy, but their version will not be released until June 12th. Potential buyers may also note that the AT&T version can only be bought using the AT&T Next program or for full retail.

Best Buy is offering an $100 gift card for those that pre-order the LG G4

lg g4 review aa (3 of 34)

The LG G4 is almost here and so Best Buy has now opened up pre-orders, throwing in an $100 gift card as a perk for those who order.

Best Buy is offering pre-orders for the LG G4 units from AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon with pricing at $199 on contract through Verizon and Sprint. You can also gra the phones outright for $609 through Verizon, or $649 from Sprint. Interestingly enough, AT&T isn’t offering the phone on contract, with off-contract pricing at $669 or $21.00 a month for 30 months through AT&T Next (or $22.34 monthly for the leather variant).

Best Buy also listed release information initially, those these details have since been taken down. If Best Buy is accurate, the Verizon model will land on June 4th and the AT&T model will arrive on June 12th. Best Buy also mentioned June 5th for Sprint, but the Now Network has already formally confirmed this date.

Sprint set to launch the LG G4 on June 5th with 3 free goodies

LG’s newest flagship device has been the talk of the town even before the company officially announced it. We know all the major carriers here in the states will offer the LG G4, but many have been waiting for specific launch dates and price tags. Today we find out the details for the launch of the device on Sprint’s Now Network. Being Sprint, they have a few options for consumers to choose in order to get their hands on the photo centric device.

The least expensive option is Sprint Lease where you pay nothing upfront and tag on $18 a month to your phone bill for the lease. Kind of like renting it, you never actually own the device. The second option comes in the more traditional Sprint Easy Pay, which is Sprints branding for financing. Again, you put $0 down, but you tack on $25 a month to your bill. This option does make the device yours and you will eventually pay off the phone. If 2-year contracts are still your go to choice the LG G4 will set you back the usual $199.99. If you have the spare Benjamins you can drop $599.99 for the device outright. As for options in device appearance, the Sprint pre-order page lists the Genuine Leather back and a Metallic Gray. You will be able to purchase other back plates at your leisure of course.

If you are super eager to make sure you get your device by launch day, you can opt to pre-order right now. Same pricing options apply. An added benefit to pre-ordering comes in the way of some bonus goodies. For a limited time, between 5/22 – 6/21, those of you that purchase the LG G4 will also get a 32GB micro SD card, a spare 3,000 mAh battery and a charging cradle. That alone saves you just over $100 in viable and useful accessories. The extras will be shipped to you a bit later from LG directly though.

Any current or would be Sprint customers jumping on the device?

LG G4 making its way to Sprint on June 5th

lg g4 review aa (7 of 34)

Sprint has just announced that the LG G4 is coming to the carrier on Friday, June 5th. Offered in both Metallic Gray and Genuine Leather Black color options, you’ll be able to pick up a G4 on this date in-store and online.

If you’d like to sign a two-year contract with the carrier, the G4 can be yours for $199.99, or for $599.99 without a contract. You can also lease the device for $0 down and $18 per month. At the end of the leasing period, customers can either purchase the device or return the G4 and begin leasing another smartphone. The G4 is also available through Sprint Easy Pay, which means you can finance the device for $25 per month over a 24-month period.
