T-Mobile now selling the LG G4 for just $480

lg-g4-problems-fixes-1

LG’s flagship for 2015, the G4, has many things going for it, including support for those things which Samsung opted to leave out of its Galaxy S6: a user-replacable battery and microSD support for expandable storage. Still, the device has also received its fair share of criticism having continued the use of plastic and for selecting the Snapdragon 808 while it’s sibling the LG Flex 2 has an 810. Reports have indicated the device hasn’t be selling as well as expected. While it is difficult to say just what the motivating factors are behind T-Mobile’s decision to slash the price tag, the customer is ultimately the winner.

Starting now the G4 can be had for just $480, a savings of $120. While this may only result in a $5 decrease per-month for those opting to purchase on installment, customers paying in-full will definitely see the savings in a big way.

As if this was not good enough, the deal is still valid in combination with LG’s bonus accessory campaign wherein purchasers will receive a free battery, charger, and leather back cover provided they buy before the end of July.

Unfortunately it is unclear just how long the G4 price cut will last: it may be a permanent price cut, or it could be a limited-time offer while supplies last.

For all those interested and making use of Magenta, now is the time to act. Those who are still on the fence may feel it prudent to watch our in-depth review of the G4 and related comparison videos to determine if it’s right for you.

[Deal] LG G4 is under $500 off-contact at T-Mobile

t-mobile_great_american_ballpark

Today, the LG G4 took a big price drop. On T-Mobile’s website, you can now get a brand new LG G4 off contract for only $479, 20% off of the normal $599 price. That’s a substantial discount compared to other carriers like AT&T selling the phone for $629 and Sprint who currently sells the flagship for $599. T-Mobile is also the only carrier in the United States offering the brown leather back. And, to sweeten the discount, T-Mobile is running a special offer through July 31 for an additional back cover and battery at no extra cost. The length of the discount, though, is unknown.

LG G Pro 3 or LG Nexus: Mysterious LG device shows up on Geekbench running a Snapdragon 808

There are murmurs around the Internet that LG is preparing a phablet smartphone for release soon, most likely called the LG G Pro 3 (though the name LG G4 Pro has also been thrown around). Earlier this month, a rumour confirmed the existence of this device and suggested that it would have top of the line specifications, including a yet-to-be-released Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM, 6-inch Quad HD display, and 20.7MP rear camera. Interestingly, a benchmark on Geekbench has shown up recently which appears to depict a LG F600L going through the paces, but rocking a Snapdragon 808 instead and 4GB RAM, which has us wondering whether this is the LG G Pro 3 or possibly even the LG Nexus.

Instinctively, we have to assume that this device is going to be the LG G Pro 3 – the LG G Pro 2 had a model number of F350 – however there is also the possibility that this could be the LG Nexus – If you’re wondering how a device running a Snapdragon 808 could possibly be one of LG’s new devices, a revelation revealed yesterday that the Snapdragon 820 processor might not be ready for the Huawei Nexus also implies that it wouldn’t be ready for any device releasing before December, the LG G Pro 3 and LG Nexus included. LG’s preference for the Snapdragon 808 in the LG G4 instead of the Snapdragon 810 would naturally imply that they’d prefer it as a workhorse going forward if nothing else better was available.

What do you think about this device that could be the LG G Pro 3 or LG Nexus? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Unknown LG device visits Geekbench with flagship specs

An unknown LG device was spotted running through Geekbench. Dubbed the LGE LG-F600L, Geekbench tells us that it is running a Snapdragon 808 with 4 GB of RAM.

With two flagship devices expected to be released from LG in the coming months, it is uncertain as to what this device could be.

Could it be the revival of the Nexus 5 that is to expected to release along side a Huawei Nexus phablet? Or maybe it is the LG G4 Pro in accordance to LG’s promise of a new flagship in the second half of 2015.

I am leaning more towards the LG G4 Pro as Geekbench also identifies the device as running Android 5.1.1 where we all know that the new Nexus will be launching with Android M.

However, it is not impossible for the new Nexus to be tested using Android 5.1.1, and the LG G4 Pro is expected to come with a Snapdragon 820.

The naming, LG-F600L, also follows in line with the LG G4’s model number (LG-F500L) adding even more uncertainty.

Then again, why would the Nexus phone launch with a Snapdragon 808 while the Nexus phablet launches with a Snapdragon 820?

Which do you think this phone is? The Nexus 5 that everyone is dying to see, or the more powerful G4 Pro?

As always, this is all speculation. Take it with a grain of salt.

Unknown LG device with Snapdragon 808 and 4GB RAM surfaces online

LG_G3_Back_Slanted_LG_Logo_TA

Earlier today, an unknown handset visited Geekbench. The device is manufactured my LG and contains a Snapdragon 808 chipset with 4GB of RAM. The mysterious device is listed under the code LGE LG-F600L and has a single core performance of 1082, and a 3298 multi-core performance. These are good numbers and hint towards a flagship device.

LG has already confirmed they will be making the next iteration of Google’s Nexus line. The device is expected to feature around a 5-inch display and will be released alongside a Huawai-made Nexus device in the fourth quarter. These devices should debut alongside the new version of Google’s mobile operating system, Android M. Could this be the new Nexus handset? Maybe.

Rumors have also led us to believe this could be the new LG G Pro. The LG G Pro is supposed to be a follow up handset for the second half of 2015. The company mentioned this shortly after they released the high end LG G4. The LG G Pro is expected to come in the fourth quarter as well and recent leaks suggest an all-metal build with around a 6-inch display.

All we can do is wait for an official announcement. Either way this is shaping up to be a beast of a handset.

LG G4 community offering over $2000 to anyone who can achieve root and bootloader unlock

lg-g4-color-comparison-aa-9-of-11

Time to sharpen your coding and tinkering skills. LG G4 users have assembled and managed to collect over $2000 USD. The purpose? Giving it all to the first person to come up with a new root method or full bootloader unlock for LG’s latest flagship smartphone.

The original thread has been posted at the XDA Developers forums, where an onslaught of LG G4 owners have shown their interest in finding a way to tinker with their smartphones. The included list shows dozens of participants cooperating with whatever amount of money they can share.

lg g4 first look aa (22 of 32)

More specifically, the group is looking to get a root method or full bootloader unlock for the Verizon and AT&T LG G4 iterations. These are usually the hardest to crack, given the carriers’ tighter hold on hardware/software control.

There are two separate bounties: one for root and the other for unlocking the bootloader. Both would ultimately achieve a similar goal, so whichever bounty is taken first will dictate the qualifying winner. Sadly, the bootloader unlock bounty is a bit lower at $1485 (at this point). On the other hand, achieving full root and recovery alone will get you a generous $2205.

dollars money

In order to get your cash reward, you have to be the first to create or find a method, make a post in the thread proving your procedure works and provide step-by-step instructions to your solution. In addition, a separate user has to follow the same instructions and confirm their validity. When all of that is out of the way, the discoverer can claim his bounty via PM from donators. Yes, it will be a hassle, but this is 2 grand we are talking about!

Interested? You can go to the original threads and learn all the details. And if you are an LG G4 owner trying to get a new root method, you can also pitch in for the cause there. Are any of you going to test your skills with this? Will you be donating?

LG recruits Dude Perfect to help advertise the LG G4

LG loves its new phone, the LG G4 – especially the camera. And with good reason too as the G4 arguably has one of the best, if not the best, cameras available on the smartphone market right now. LG has already strapped the LG G4 to a drone to capture some cool footage, but now they’ve gotten the help of YouTube royalty to help them plug the phone’s camera some more – in particular, we’re interested in how LG got Dude Perfect to help advertise the LG G4. If you’re not familiar of Dude Perfect, they’re pretty much the YouTube kings of trick shots – basketball, ping pong balls, paper planes; they do it all. This time, in a video which includes lacrosse god, Paul Rabil, the Dude Perfect team take the time to run through a few of the LG G4’s features – check it out:

As you can see from the video, the plethora of professional photography settings that LG has included in the LG G4 do lend themselves to video makers who can make use of them, not unlike Dude Perfect. We will note that the new OIS that LG has been touting doesn’t appear to negate much of the shaky cam that goes on during the video, but hey, if you’re expecting no shaking either, you’re kidding yourself. Definitely a neat way to advertise your new phone – keep it coming LG.

LG G4 reportedly under-performing in South Korea

lg-g4-problems-fixes-5

The rather impressive LG G4 has had three months on the market in South Korea in which to win over consumers, but the smartphone does not appear to be living up to its sales expectations. The latest report from Korea states that just over 240,000 units have sold in the country since launch.

While not a terrible figure itself, it falls well short of industry estimates and comes at a time when LG had been hoping to boost yearly smartphone sales. The company set itself a lofty target of 70 million smartphones for 2015, which is now in doubt if the company is struggling with domestic sales. For comparison, Samsung has sold over 1.3 million Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge handsets in South Korea so far. LG wasn’t aiming for quite these levels, but this is a rather large gap between the two.

This is not the first time that we have heard mutterings about an underwhelming G4 performance. Last month analysts cut LG’s Q2 earnings expectations because second quarter shipments were set to come in at just under 2.5 million units, again missing its target. You can’t help but wonder if the G4 is suffering from a lack of demand worldwide.

Given the high quality of LG’s latest flagship, the exact cause of the disappointing sales figures is difficult to pinpoint. Some have suggested that the impressive and more unique looking Galaxy S6 Edge is pinching much of the high-end demand. It is also possible that some customers are waiting to see what LG had planned for its second flagship later in the year or that some simply don’t see the G4 as a big enough upgrade over the G3.

Of course, this is not to say that LG’s wider smartphone range is suffering from the same problems. But without its flagship putting in a big performance, it is looking increasingly unlikely that LG will miss its 70 million smartphones target this year.
