These could be the specifications for the new LG Nexus 5

LG-Escape-2-8

We have seen plenty of leaked images of the highly anticipated LG Nexus, but hardware specifications have been much harder to come by. Until today that is, as a leaked hardware table from a prototype handset has shown up to give us a look at what might be powering the smartphone.

A lot of the table is a match for some of the very earliest rumors about the handset. There’s apparently a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 SoC and 3GB of LPDDR3 memory forming the basis of the handset. The phone is also expected to feature a 13 megapixel IMX278 image sensor, along with optical image stabilization and LG’s laser auto-focus technology. The fingerprint scanner that was previous spotted in pictures is also listed.

nexus-5-lg specifications

The LG Nexus is expected to be the smaller of the two upcoming Nexus handsets, the other being designed by Huawei. This table suggests a reasonably sized 5.2-inch display with a 2K resolution. Overall, the hardware looks to be quite similar to LG’s existing G4 flagship, but with a few subtle changes.

If true, these specifications are quite comparable to existing flagships on the market, although this means that these new Nexus phones may have a high price tag to match. Even so, the inclusion of a better camera and extras like the fingerprint scanner might make the new 5.2-inch Nexus a suitable upgrade for previous generation Nexus 5 owners. Are you tempted by the LG Nexus 5?

Motorola, LG, ASUS and Huawei reportedly introducing new Android Wear watches at IFA

android-wear-faces

It has been a bit quiet around the Android Wear realm. Is Apple stealing all the thunder? The Cupertino giant did sell more smart watches in a day than the Android Wear manufacturers shipped in 2014, collectively. In fact, Strategy Analytics’ studies suggest about 75% of all Q2, 2015 smart watches came from the iPhone maker. The Apple Watch is a force to be reckoned with, and the silence among Android Wear manufacturers may simply signify they’re getting ready for a battle to come.

According to sources familiar with upcoming Android Wear launches, multiple companies are planning to take the stage and introduce their new Android-based wearables at IFA 2015. next week. These sources couldn’t tell us much about the upcoming products, but they did give us a few hints on the general plans.

LG G Watch Sony Smartwatch 3 Moto 360 LG G Watch R Android Wear-4

Motorola is said to launch a successor to the Moto 360, which managed to be among the most popular devices during the first Android Wear wave, thanks to its circular screen and enticing design. Meanwhile, LG is said to be planning a device similar to the LG Watch Urbane LTE. And don’t worry, it seems this time around LG is opting to use Android Wear instead of WebOS.

We have already seen the upcoming Huawei and ASUS Android Wear products, so all we can hope for is to see more details in Berlin. The Huawei Watch (yes, that’s the name) is meant to be a “timeless” piece of technology with a classic design. It’s actually quite gorgeous, but some of you will prefer the ASUS ZenWatch 2, which was unveiled at Computex last June.

Android Wear Vs Apple Watch-9

Will these new Android Wear devices be able to compete against Apple’s mighty watch? Most of us will side with Google’s partners, but the truth is it’s very hard to go against the Apple Watch – those guys have the numbers! And with Samsung possibly getting rid of Google’s software on the Gear S2 in exchange of their own Tizen platform, things are looking pretty tough.

All we can do is wait and see what happens at IFA. You can be sure we will be there catching all the goodies, so keep it tuned to Android Authority for all your wearable coverage!

Batch of Android Wear smartwatches ready for IFA 2015

android_wear_smartwatches

Despite quickly taking over the top spot for smartwatches, the Apple Watch has not been the roaring success some may have hoped for. Manufacturers of Android-based smartwatches have already discovered this truth, that the wearables market has not yet caught on fire, as shown by poor results for 2014 sales when only 4.6 million units were shipped. Nevertheless, several companies are preparing to introduce a new wave of smartwatches at the IFA 2015 show next week in Berlin, including ASUS, Huawei, LG and Motorola, with a heavy focus on the use of Android Wear for the operating system.

Google’s Android Wear has been on the market since 2014, but it is really only since the Apple Watch launch that the company had something to benchmark against in terms of delivering a superior user experience. The only other alternatives prior to that were solutions like Samsung’s Tizen that ran on their Gear devices or even the WebOS used by LG on the LG Watch Urbane, although these were very similar to what Android Wear was able to offer.

Strategy Analytics’ Neil Mawston has noted that “Apple Watch has clearly raised the bar for the global smartwatch industry. The ball is now in the court of rivals, like Samsung, to respond.”

Amongst the devices expected to be unveiled or put on greater display next week are the successor to the LG Watch Urbane, the new Huawei smartwatch, the ASUS ZenWatch 2, the next version of the Motorola Moto 360, and the Samsung Gear S2. Other companies will likely have something to offer for the wearables market as well.

LG’s rumored “super premium” device may be off the table

lg-president-cho-joon-ho

LG was earlier rumored to release a premium device during the second half of 2015, but new information now says that idea was never on the table.

LG president Cho Joon Ho during a meeting with the press said that the company never said anything about a “super premium” smartphone, however, Ho did say they were planning devices for the “medium and low-priced smartphone markets” in China and India.

“I predict that LG Electronics will improve this situation by releasing new models after end of September that can correspond to these markets,” Ho said.

The “Super Premium” device rumors could have instead been in relation to an LG-made Nexus, but it seems like something straight from LG is off the tables, since they’ll be focused on lower-end devices in China and India.

Either way, we’ll no doubt see LG’s usual yearly flagship refresh in addition to the rumored LG-made Nexus device soon.

LG G Pad II 10.1 unveiled ahead of IFA

Usually, manufacturers unveil a device at the showroom, but LG has gone ahead and given us a sneak peek at what their newest tablet, the G Pad 10.1 II has to offer.

Featuring a quad-core 2.26 GHz Snapdragon 800 with 2GB of RAM, the device has a large 7,400 mAh battery which should keep the light on for a while. The 1920 x 1200 screen is, as the name of it indicates, 10.1 inches across which results in a PPI of 224.

Android 5.1.1 Lollipop comes with the package, taking up some of the 16GB storage space, although you can expand that with the MicroSD slot. A mediocre 5MP camera adorns the back. LG said they’ll reveal more about the pricing and availability at the IFA launch. And yes, there’s LTE on board.

The GSM model being sold is the H815 International version, which is compatible with HSPA and most of the LTE bands used by T-Mobile and AT&T but if you’re on Verizon or Sprint, you’re out of luck as this won’t be compatible with your network.

As if the price wasn’t good enough, this particular model will definitely appeal if you’re someone who likes to mod your phone. The H815 is the only version of the G4 to support LG’s boot loader unlock tool and with TWRP custom recovery support also available online, this is a model that’s set up ready for tinker.

In case you’ve forgotten, the LG G4 is certainly one of the most impressive devices this year and has a feature-rich specs list that includes a Quad HD display, Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB RAM and 16GB expandable storage. On the back is a 16MP rear camera with optical image stabilisation, laser autofocus and colour spectrum sensor, the front snapper is an 8MP snapper while the handset runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with and has a 3000 mAh removable battery.

ASUS and Samsung make the fastest-charging smartphones

ASUS' Zenfone 2

Your smartphone’s battery life is no doubt very important to you, but its charging time matters, too — just ask anyone who’s had mere minutes to top up a phone before heading out. So who offers the best recharge rates, then? Tom’s Guide might have an answer. It recently conducted a charging speed test to determine which phones will deliver the most energy when you’re in a rush. In short, you’ll probably want to make a beeline toward either ASUS’ Zenfone 2 or Samsung’s Galaxy S6. The Zenfone 2 is the fastest in short bursts, giving you 32 percent power in just 15 minutes. The Galaxy S6 is faster overall, however, hitting 100 percent after 1 hour and 22 minutes.

Of course, the performance depends on not just a phone’s technology, but the size of the battery. Samsung wins partly because it has a relatively small 2,550mAh pack compared to the 3,000mAh-plus batteries of other phones with speedy refills, such as the Zenfone, G4, Droid Turbo and Nexus 6. While you may be the first to unplug your phone if you have an S6, you may also be the first to plug in again.

One thing’s for certain: if you don’t have quick charging at all, you’ll notice the difference. Both Apple’s iPhone 6 and the OnePlus 2 were well behind the front-runners, taking up to 73 minutes longer to hit peak capacity. That might not be a deal-breaker if you only ever go hunting for a wall outlet at the end of the night, but it’s something to consider if you frequently find yourself running low on juice in mid-day.

LG G Pad 2 10.1: Full HD display, Snapdragon 800, coming at IFA next week

lg g pad ii 2 10.1 1

LG has been quietly churning out mid-range tablets following its return to the market with the excellent G Pad 8.3, but the G Pad series now has a new member, and it’s – at least mildly – interesting.

The LG G Pad 2 10.1 follows the limited release of the G Pad 2 8.0 in South Korea in mid-August. The 10.1-inch model is a higher-end affair, offering a Full HD LCD display (224 ppi), powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor (quad-core, 2.26GHz), 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable), a 7,400 mAh battery, 5MP and 2MP cameras, and LTE Cat 4. This is by no means a flashy spec sheet, but there’s no big disappointment either, especially if the price is right.

The LG G Pad 2 is 7.8 millimeters thick and features a “soft metallic-finish,” though the build material itself is probably just plastic. The larger bezels and side-mounted dual speakers suggest LG imagined this tablet for landscape usage, primarily. The faux metallic finish is available in just one color for now: Brilliant Bronze.

lg g pad ii 2 10.1 2

LG said that both LTE and WiFi-only models of the LG G Pad 2 10.1 will be available in “key markets in North America, Europe and Asia.” No further details about the G Pad 2 10.1’s price and availability have been disclosed for now, though the verbiage in LG’s press release suggests the tablet will be priced competitively.

The G Pad 2 looks competent, but it’s not a premium device and that’s a trend among Android OEMs these days. There’s been a dearth of truly high-end Android tablets in the past year, with the few exceptions including Sony’s Xperia Z4 Tablet. Samsung has released the second-gen Galaxy Tab S recently, but the series seems to be stagnating in many ways.

LG plans to give us a better look at the G Pad 2 10.1 (and hopefully more) next week at IFA Berlin, and we’ll definitely be there to check it out. Meanwhile, thoughts on this device?

LG DELIVERS THE PERFECT MULTIMEDIA COMPANION WITH G PAD II 10.1

Compact Design, Clearer Display and Powerful Functionality Ideal for Content Consumption

SEOUL, Aug. 24, 2015 ― LG Electronics (LG) will be unveiling the most advanced model of its G Pad tablet series at IFA 2015 in Berlin. Following its official debut, both LTE and Wi-Fi versions of G Pad II 10.1 will become available in key markets in North America, Europe and Asia.

The LG G Pad series offers the perfect balance of performance and price to satisfy most consumers in the market for big-screen mobile companion. The G Pad II 10.1 offers more features than other devices in the same segment with its clear WUXGA (1920 x 1200) display for enjoying multimedia content and comfortably browsing the web. And with its fast 2.26GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 800 processor and long-lasting 7,400mAh battery ― the largest in its class ― the G Pad II 10.1 can keep you entertained for hours on end.

Even with its large 10.1-inch display, the G Pad II 10.1 features a slim and sleek design with the slimmest bezel among similar-sized tablets currently on the market. It provides a truly immersive viewing experience and does so with style with a soft metallic-finish.

What’s more, Reader Mode makes reading e-books more comfortable by reducing the blue light of the display backlight, which studies have shown to cause eye fatigue and blurred vision. Dual Window divides the screen allowing you to run two applications at the same time a convenient feature for chronic multitaskers. QuickMemo+ allows users to instantly create, save and share their memos from any screen, without having to open a separate application. The G Pad II 10.1 comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Office for Android Tablet and an additional 100GB of free OneDrive storage for two years.

“The LG G Pad II 10.1 was developed in response to consumers’ feedback and optimized for multimedia consumption.” said Chris Yie, vice president and head of marketing communications for LG Mobile Communications Company. “Customers asked for a large display, bigger battery and faster performance all without raising the price. The G Pad II delivers on all counts.”

Details of price and availability will be announced locally at the time of launch. Visitors to IFA 2015 can see the LG G Pad II 10.1 for themselves in Hall 18 of Messe Berlin from September 4-9.

LG will unveil the G Pad II 10.1 at IFA next month

lg-g-pad-2-10-inch

Following the introduction of the G Pad II 8.0 in South Korea last week, LG has today announced that it will unveil a 10.1-inch variant of the tablet during its press conference at the annual IFA trade show in Berlin next month.

In terms of specifications, the G Pad II 10.1 will pack a 2.26GHz Snapdragon 800 System-on-Chip (SoC), 3GB of RAM, an Adreno 330 GPU, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2-megapixel selfie shooter and a 7,400mAh battery.

The slate will also feature LG’s brand new Reader Mode, which, according to the South Korean company, makes reading eBooks considerably easier on the eyes by removing the blue glare from the display’s backlight.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any solid information with regards to pricing or availability just yet, but, thankfully, we don’t have to wait too much longer to find out as LG will reveal all of these details during its event on September 4.
