LG possibly announcing a new phone on October 1st?
LG has sent out invitations for an event they are having on October 1st. Currently we have zero details other than the date and that it will be in New York. What could it be for?
Microsoft is holding a Windows 10 event in New York only a few days before. Google is also hosting an event in San Francisco where it will announce the next Nexus, also made by LG.
However, what will LG be unveiling? Is it possible they will show off the leaked V10, which is said to have a second “ticker” display? Possibly another smartwatch? Leave in the comments your thoughts as to what it could be?
Come comment on this article: LG possibly announcing a new phone on October 1st?
LG sends out invites for October 1st event
LG has begun sending out invites for an event on October 1st. The invite features a film reel and a slateboard asking you to save the date for October 1st in New York. Generally companies try to tie in some sort of element from their presentation into invite but we’ve seen no leaks having to do with movies.
We have, however, seen a lot of leaks for a new flagship phone from LG. Whether it’s called the LG G4 Note or LG G4 Pro is yet to be seen, but we did catch a trademark filing for the G4 Note earlier this month.
There haven’t been a ton of hardware leaks on the G4 Note but we might be seeing a very similar phone to the G4 released earlier this year. It’s probably too early in the year to see a newer processor and 3 gigs of RAM seem to be the sweet spot right now. If they follow Samsung’s example, we’ll probably see a stylus of some sort too.
What do you think LG will be showing off? A new phone? Maybe a new watch? Let us know in the comments how you think the film theme may play in.

LG to hold a press event on October 1st, likely to show off its next flagship

Today LG sent out invites for a special press event, to be held on October 1st in New York City. While the subject of the event isn’t unveiled, it seems likely we could be looking at LG’s latest flagship.
Earlier this year, LG first teased about its “super premium” flagship. More recently, we’ve seen the device leaked in a few images, and have had at least a few other rumors that help paint a picture of what to expect.
One thing we aren’t as clear on is the name. At one point it was rumored to be the LG G Note and some even said it might be another member of the G Pro series, but most recently rumors have pointed towards name “LG V10”, which is backed up by its appearance in leaked images. It is certainly possibly that LG is moving away from the G branding with this device, though we can’t say for sure what its final name will be. For now though, the LG V10 naming scheme makes as much sense as anything else.

So what does the invite tell us about the V10, or whatever else LG plans to announce? Not much. There is a movie theme to the invite, suggesting that we are looking at some sort of special video-related functionality. For everything else, we’ll have to turn to the rumor mill.
According to Evan Blass (aka evleaks), the LG V10 supposedly offers a few unique features including a secondary ‘ticker’ display for texts and other information, similar to the ill-fated Samsung Continuum but located above the display not below it. Other rumored specs include a Snapdragon 808 CPU, a 5.7-inch QHD display, 3GB RAM, 64GB storage, a 16MP rear cam, 5MP front cam, and a removable rear with microSD and the ability to switch out the battery.

In many ways, this sounds a lot like the LG G4 with a few extra gimmicks thrown in. In remains unseen whether or not that is enough to sway people to the device. What do you think, intrigued to see what LG brings with its latest phone?
6 tips to improve your mobile photography

Photography’s evolution has dramatically sped up since the inception of quality smartphone cameras. Handsets have effectively replaced point-and-shoot cameras, something we never expected to happen only a generation ago. This opens plenty of new doors for creating memories, but it also means there are millions of other users taking a sea of photos every single day. How can you make your own pictures stand out?
It’s hard to teach anyone photography, as it’s a skill that usually takes a long time to polish. There’s a plethora of factors to take into account every single time you release that shutter. Not to mention, every user has a personal style. Regardless, there are some simple ways to dramatically improve your shots, without investing too much time and resources into this art.
LG is giving us some tips and tricks you can apply to your daily snaps and share even more awesome images to your social networks. Of course, this is mostly marketing content and mentions LG products quite often, but these tricks can be applied with any camera, and it’s definitely useful information. Let’s dig into the nitty gritty, shall we?
1 – Shooting from above
As LG mentions, shooting from above (camera pointing down) can make people look more flattering, as it tends to get rid of “double chin action and awkward lines”. Of course, there are ways to do this without having to use these angles, it just so happens that looking up stretches parts of your neck and face, making them look smoother.
Alternatively, you can try to lower your shoulders and stick out your chin. You know, just in case you really want to show something that is behind you and you can only catch by lowering the camera.

2 – Play with the shutter speed
This is something most people don’t pay too much attention to, but messing around with the shutter speed can make a huge difference in your photos. It all depends on the amount of light you have available and the effect you are looking for. Let’s start by telling you how the shutter speed affects the image.
The shutter speed determines how long your camera sensor is exposed. A faster shutter speed will capture action clearer and freeze all the details, but it will also mean having to raise the ISO (more on this later), which can make the image more grainy.
On the other hand, lowering the shutter speed will capture smoother moving objects and you can get less noisy images, but you have to be more careful. Slow shutter speeds make your photos more prone to motion blur. Just make sure you have very steady hands, use a tripod or make sure the device is stable.

3 – The rule of thirds!
Composition, composition, composition! All other factors are important for making a great image, but ask any photographer and he will tell you composition is the most important part. There is plenty of advanced composition methods, but the most basic one that works almost every single time is the rule of thirds.
The concept is simple. Just visualize the frame divided in three, both horizontally and vertically. There will be a virtual set of rectangles. See the middle one? Try to place your main subject in one of its corners (where the lines intersect). This usually creates a very interesting effect, but be careful, as sometimes images can have too much dead space in other areas.

4 – Try to get a basic idea of ISO
What the hell is ISO? It seems like some convoluted professional photography term, but it’s really quite an easy concept. The ISO simply determines the sensitivity of your sensor (or film). The lower the ISO, the less light your camera can capture. This usually means you have to elongate exposure (unless you are looking for a specific effect), but shots will be less noisy.
As you start increasing the ISO, your images will become more grainy, but you will be able to use a faster shutter speed and/or make images brighter.
Many smartphones now have manual mode built in, but those who don’t enjoy such features can simply look for another camera app with a manual mode. There’s plenty in the Google Play Store!

5 – Sometimes panorama is the only good way to go
Are you trying to take a picture of something that is too large? You don’t need to run miles back just to fit it all in the frame. Pretty much all modern smartphones can now take panorama shots. These images are essentially multiple images stitched together. This used to be a more complicated process before, but smartphone software now does it all for you.

6 – HDR
When I learnt to do HDR, we had to take multiple identical shots at different shutter speeds, put them together using specialized software and manually adjust all the lighting. The ultimate purpose? To have more dynamic range and create images that are more uniformly lit. Modern smartphones can now take care of all this work on their own, so look for the option in the camera settings.
This is good for situations in which there is a large contrast in light. For example, try to take a picture of yourself indoors, standing in front of a window that points outside. Either you will be very dark or the light outside will be completely overblown.

Wrapping up
So there you have it, guys! These are definitely some helpful tips, but there is so much more you can do with your mobile photos. Do you have any other tips for us? Share them with your fellow mobile enthusiasts in the comments below.

Nexus 5X cases show up on Amazon
Google is set to announce its new Nexus hardware on September the 29th. We’re expecting to see not one but two new Nexus smartphones, one 5.7-inch manufacturer by Huawei and a much smaller 5.2-inch Nexus made by LG. Some cases listed on Amazon show us the design of the upcoming LG Nexus 5X.
We have seen many leaks pertaining to LG’s Nexus 5X. Just yesterday, case maker Ringke listed a new Fusion lineup of cases due to arrive on October 9th. This is right around when we’re expecting pre-orders to start. The case renders give us a good idea at what to expect for the upcoming Nexus smartphone’s design and pretty much confirms recent design leaks.
October can’t come soon enough.

LG Nexus 5 shows up on leaked internal slides
Google is announcing two new Nexus devices this year, one manufactured by Huawei and the other by LG. The new LG Nexus 5 has been leaked multiple times but nothing concrete as surfaced as of yet.
What appears to be an internal slide dubbed ‘Project N3’ shows the next Nexus 5 made by LG in its full final form. The image hows the front and back of the device and once again we see the fingerprint sensor that seems certain to be part of the final build now given how much it has been leaked.
As well as confirming the physical appearance of the LG Nexus 5, the internal slide leak also comes with some specs that confirm the 5.2-inch full HD (1080p) display, which will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor. The leak does state, however, that the device will only have 2GB of RAM, which is contrary to the 3GB we have been hearing, all supported by a 2,700mAh battery.

You can get a good idea of what the Nexus 5X looks like from these case renders

Intrigued by the Nexus 5X? Renders from case listings on Amazon may give you a good idea of what to expect in terms of appearance.
The renders come from a familiar source: case manufactures looking for an early marketing lead who create unofficial renders of upcoming devices. These renders are based on product schematics that phone makers share with accessory companies ahead of new phone launches. The images are typically accurate in terms of the general dimensions and layout of ports and buttons, but case makers don’t know the finer details, like the material or finish of a device.
The Nexus 5X renders below come from Spigen and Ringke, two case makers that have released accurate phone renders in the past, most recently with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

A source has confirmed to Android Authority the design of the upcoming Nexus 5X – from images we have seen, we can say that these renders (as well as the images leaked by Android Pit a few days ago) are spot on.
The LG-made Nexus 5X is expected to feature a Snapdragon 808 processor, a 5.2-inch Full HD display, and a fingerprint sensor on the back. According to our sources, the device will be around $50 more expensive than the original Nexus 5. We’re just weeks away from the expected September 29 launch, so everything should become clear very soon. In the meantime, we can’t rule out even more revealing leaks, so keep it tuned for more Nexus 5X coverage.
Our Best of IFA 2015: the 5 most impressive products from the show
Rain and chill blanketed Berlin last week, adding a gloomy hue to a cityscape that, even in the nicest of weathers, can be described as austere. But there was no gloom in the buzzing halls of Messe Berlin, the sprawling exhibition venue where IFA takes place every September.

A spectacle of light, color, and sound, IFA is Europe’s biggest electronics expo, and the place to show your products, if you’re a mobile company looking for exposure ahead of the crucial holiday season.
From boutique case makers to the biggest tech giants, hundreds of companies hawked their newest products at IFA 2015. The Android Authority team has sifted through the most interesting mobile announcements from the show, to bring you Our Best of IFA selection. Let’s see them, shall we?
Huawei Mate S: the finest phone at IFA

Huawei is not yet a household name in the West, but it’s fast becoming one. The Chinese company is about to enter the very select Nexus club, and its self-branded smartphones are increasingly valued by customers and reviewers. In this context, we were eager to see the new Mate S in action, and we weren’t disappointed.
The Mate S is a beautiful beast. Featuring the metallic design that Huawei has come to be known for, the Mate S is compact, sleek, and attractive. The fingerprint sensor on the back is new and improved, and once you get used to it, it will be really hard to go back to phones that lack this feature. A gorgeous AMOLED screen and strong performance complete the portrait of a true flagship that is worth its salt.

Yoga Tab 3 Pro: versatility redefined

Tablets are boring, right? Wrong, says Lenovo, and the company has a pretty strong dissenting argument in the Yoga Tab 3 Pro. Billed as the ultimate video tablet, the Yoga Tab 3 Pro shows that tablets don’t have to be indistinct slabs of metal and glass. Sure, the asymmetrical design and above-average weight are not for everyone. But that distinctive spine hides some very interesting features, including a full-blown video projector and a multifunctional stand (it even has a hanging hole!).
Unique features aside, this ultimate media consumption machine can stand against any competitor when it comes to its fine QHD display and excellent performance, powered by Intel. Plus, the Yoga Tab 3 Pro offers what’s probably the best sound we’ve ever heard coming out of a tablet.

LG Rolly Keyboard: simply clever

It’s not often that we’re impressed by a tablet accessory, let alone a Bluetooth keyboard. But LG managed to do just that with the clever little Rolly, a keyboard you can roll into a wand of sorts and carry in your pocket. It’s a little gizmo that you may be inclined to dismiss as an exercise in gimmickry, but playing with it turned us into converts.
The clever Rolly transforms into a wand with a satisfying click, but LG didn’t sacrifice functionality for the sake of the compact form factor. The keys actually have a nice travel (for a keyboard of this type), so you don’t feel like you’re tapping on a slab. There’s also a built-in stand that lets you prop up a phone or tablet, so you can get in productive mode just about anywhere and anytime.

Samsung Gear S2: color us impressed

Tizen has a pretty bad reputation with the Android crowd, and for good reason. Samsung’s would-be Android replacement OS has failed to impressed us so far, and the various wearables that make use of it the more so. But the Gear S2 is different, and in a very good way. Samsung took its time bringing a new wearable to market, and this atypical restraint seems to have paid off.
The Gear S2 looks great, feels great, and thanks to the use of a rotating bezel, it actually works pretty nice too. Rotating the bezel with your index is an intuitive and simple way to go through a redesigned UI and for picking just the right app. It’s so good that, in most cases, it will replace tapping and swiping, which can be a pain on a small screen. It remains to be seen if Samsung can make Tizen work, but our initial impressions are very good.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium: more than just 4K

Sony launched a world first at IFA: 4K resolution on a 5.5-inch display. Despite the almost casual manner in which this breakthrough was announced, we were impressed – and pleasantly surprised – by Sony’s 4K Xperia Z5 Premium. The sheer technical achievement of shipping a 4K display deserves plaudits, even if you probably won’t be able to tell the difference.
It’s good to see Sony holding a technological lead in smartphones, but the Z5 Premium is more than just a pretty display. It feels as premium as the name implies; it’s fast, despite the added pixels; and it comes with a great camera that pushes the envelope in terms of resolution and quality.

Best Buy now selling the Nexus 6 for $350
Last week we saw Amazon drop the price of the Motorola Nexus 6 to $350. This makes sense as they’re probably trying to clear stock before the new Nexus is rumored to be announced later this month. Now we’re seeing Best Buy match Amazon.
Best Buy will normally price match Amazon prices but this is more than that. This is an official price cut to $350 instead of just a price match. We don’t know if this is a permanent deal so make sure you get yours soon if you’re interested. We still haven’t seen the Google Store drop their prices past the $499 mark. Google could be holding back on a price drop as to not tip their hand at the incoming new Nexus.
The Nexus 6 is still a very good performer and will stand up to most flagships of this year. While not as popular as it’s little brother, the Nexus 5, the device still has the advantage of a huge development community and fast updates from Google.
