First LG G5 rumours suggests phone will have Snapdragon 820, custom camera sensor

The LG G4 is one of the standout devices of 2015, so it’s natural that we look forward to its eventual successor with high expectations. A new rumour has surfaced today which suggests that LG‘s next flagship, we’re assuming is called the LG G5, will have the latest and greatest processor from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 820, as well as a custom Sony camera sensor. The news of the processor isn’t particularly surprising seeing as how good the Snapdragon 820 is expected to be, but recall that LG shunned the more powerful Snapdragon 810 this year over rumours of overheating in favour of the more stable Snapdragon 808 – we wouldn’t expect this to be the case again next year, but there’s always a chance.

The camera sensor mentioned is also quite interesting – the rumour says that the sensor will be a 20MP camera, up from the 16MP sensor in the LG G4, and it will measure just 0.5-inch wide and built by Sony. Given how impressive LG’s cameras have been over the last few years, we’re properly excited to see how this turns out if this rumour turns out to be true. Naturally, we still have the better part of half a year before LG will be releasing the LG G5, so we’ll keep our minds open for now.

What do you think about the LG G5 having a Snapdragon 820 and custom camera sensor?

Amazon India prematurely confirms Nexus 5X name, model number and 3 color options

Nexus_5_Nexus_Logo_TA

Just a few days shy of the official announcement from Google on September 29th and we have a premature listing from Amazon India for LG’s Nexus 5X 16GB. This latest leak comes soon after the discovery of the retail packaging for both the Nexus 5X and Huawei’s Nexus 6P.

LG_Nexus_5X_LG_H791_16GB

As you can see from the image above, the list of specifications mostly confirms earlier leaks as well as the model number: LG-H791. LG again eschews the Snapdragon 810 in favour of the hexa-core Snapdragon 808. According to the listing, this 16GB variant carries 2GB of RAM, which doesn’t quite mesh with earlier leaks saying the Nexus 5X sports 3GB of RAM. It’s important to remember that LG have previously produced handsets that carry different quantities of RAM depending on how much internal storage is present. For example, the LG G3 was produced in a 2GB/16GB version as well as a 3GB/32GB variant. So it’s quite possible that LG has done the same with the Nexus 5X.

Because the Nexus 5X has a 5.2-inch display, it’s naturally a little larger than the original Nexus 5. The listing shows the soon-to-be-announced Nexus 5x to be 15.4 x 7.6 x 1cm, whereas the original Nexus 5 is 13.7 x 6.9 x 0.86cm. The Nexus 5X also seems to be around 40 grams heavier, coming in at 170 grams, which is only 6 grams lighter than the Note 4.

The Nexus 5X will be available (in India, at least) in the following colours – Quartz White, Charcoal Black, as well as Ice Blue. The listing didn’t include product images, unfortunately, and all three listings have been taken down now. There was no mention of the ‘Tennis Court Mint ‘ option that was previously leaked.

With less than a week to go, how is LG’s Nexus 5X shaping up for you? If you skipped last year’s mammoth Nexus 6, will you be upgrading to LG’s Nexus 5X or Huawei’s 6P? Let us know in the comments below.

Amazon India lists Nexus 5X, confirms storage, processor, color options and more

lg nexus 5x 2015 mint (3)

Google and its manufacturing partners seem unable (or unwilling) to contain the stream of leaks preceding the launch of Nexus devices. The Nexus 5X is the latest example, and today, we have more details to add to an already good picture.

Amazon India published product pages for the LG-made Nexus 5X in three color variants: Charcoal Black, Quartz White, and Ice Blue (confirming our recent exclusive report and a leak out of South Korea showing the blue version).

nexus 5x specs amazon

The listings are still available through direct links at the time of this writing, though it’s likely they will be removed soon.

The listings confirm some specs that have been rumored before, including the storage options. It looks like the Nexus 5X will indeed only be available in 16GB and 32GB, a decision by Google that has already created a wave of negative commentary. Is 16GB still enough in 2015, on a device without expandable storage? Perhaps in California, where people have generous data allowances, but how about the rest of the world?

The Nexus 5X will feature a 5.2-inch Full HD display, a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 MSM8992  processor, 2GB of RAM, a 2700 mAh battery, a 12.3 MP main camera, and a 5 MP front camera. These are all specs listed in the three listings, and they seem very credible at this point. The Nexus 5X will be a rather heavy 177 grams at dimensions of 15.4 x 1 x 7.6 cm.

No price is given in the listing and the launch date is listed as September 29, when Google is scheduled to hold an event.

While these listing look pretty credible, there’s a chance they are inaccurate. But they do mesh in with many other reports. Let us know your thoughts!

CyanogenMod now supports more mid-range Huawei, Motorola phones

Cyanogen’s partnership with OnePlus may be over, but the company is still hard at work to make sure its namesake Android ROM will run on just about everything else. According to a new post on the company blog, its been working with device manufactures like Xiaomi, Motorola, Oppo and others to extend official support to a wider array of mid-range Android handsets — and it has a list of devices to prove it.

Specifically, Cyanogen says it now supports both the 2015 Moto E and G, Xiaomi’s Mi3w and Mi4 handsets, a new handset from up-and-coming European manufacturer WileyFox and a whole mess of phones (and variants) from Samsung, HTC and LG — all of which can be viewed and searched in Cyanogen’s officially-supported device wiki. This update also marks the first time since CyanogenMod 7 (we’re on 12 now, for those of you who are counting) that it’s been able to officially support a Huawei device. “It’s nice to see the company supporting the community ahead of the rumored Huawei Nexus,” Cyanogen wrote, noting support for the Huawei Honor 4 and 4x, Ascend Mate 2 and Snapto. “We’re expecting good things here.”

The company seems proud of its expanded support for mid-range devices, but says flagship handsets (teasing the HTC One M9, Galaxy S6 and LG G4) are still being worked on. Either way, it’s good news if you want an affordable phone with CyanogenMod, but aren’t quite ready to go all-in on OnePlus’ original handset.

Huawei Nexus 6P shows up in newly leaked high-resolution press render

Huawei-Nexus-6P-press-render-leak

Earlier we reported on leaked images of the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P retail packaging, and now the Nexus 6P seems to have just appeared in a newly leaked high resolution press render.

This press render comes by way of sources close to Android Police, and it seems to be the same device that leaked a couple of days ago, showing a black bar across the top of the device. The phone is expected to sport a massive 5.7-inch 1440p display, according to Android Police, along with an array of other impressive specs.

As you can see, around the back of the device under the black bar is a fingerprint scanner. We’re not sure what the entire purpose of the black bar is just yet, but there’s obviously a camera and flash on the left of it. However, there’s no telling what the mirror does, if anything.

We’re only a week away from Google’s San Francisco event, where the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are expected to be announced. It’s only a matter of time before we see the Nexus 5X in all of its glory now.

Tons of new devices have officially been added to the Cyanogenmod family

Cyanogen_New_Logo_February_2015Cyanogenmod has officially expanded support for several new devices from different manufacturers, expanding the list of phones that will support Cyanogenmod releases. This doesn’t necessarily mean that all of these devices have a stable build ready right this second, but they’ll be supported with future releases.

There are some heavy hitters that you’d expect, including devices from the likes of Samsung, HTC, and LG, which cover some specific international versions, but other devices from Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi are making the cut. Even some obscure phones, like Smartfren’s own CM-powered device and WileyFox’s European devices, will be supported going forward. It’s a pretty inclusive list that fills in what were previously niche gaps in Cyanogenmod coverage.

If you’re interested in seeing if your phone made the cut, hit the link below.

Nexus ‘5X’ and ‘6P’ boxes leak out ahead of Google’s Android event

Nexus 5X, 6P box leak

Names, specs and pictures of the next Google-brand phones have already been floating around, and now Android Police has what it says are the retail boxes for the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. If you’ll recall, these are the rumored LG (5X) and Huawei (6P) devices that Google will introduce at its Android-flavored breakfast meeting one week from today. Of course, most of our speculation is about what else might be there (new Chromecast?), but this peek can help you get an idea of how the eventual unboxing process will begin.

Google Nexus smartphone retail boxes leak, confirms Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P naming convention

Nexus-5X-retail-packaging

We’ve seen plenty of leaks leading up to Google’s September 29 event, and as such, we know almost every detail about Google’s upcoming Nexus handsets. An earlier rumor indicated that they would be called the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, and now images coming by way of Android Police offer concrete evidence of the purported model names.

The Nexus 5X box is pictured above and the Nexus 6P box below. Interestingly, the Nexus 5X box takes on more of a square design while the corners are rounded on the Neuxs 6P box. You can see the Nexus logo on bottom right of both boxes along with the model name and storage size on the top left of each.

Google’s expected to announce the two devices at its September 29 event, along with some other goodies. Suffice to say, we’ll only see more concrete leaks from hear on out, as Android fans all around are excited to see what’s next from Google.

Interestingly, the Huawei Nexus 6P will allegedly be the first Nexus device to sport 128GB of internal storage, but as a caveat, it’s said the device won’t sport a microSD card.

LG V10’s secondary “ticker” display shown off in new leak

LG V10 Ticker

LG is holding an event in New York on Thursday, October 1st, where the company is rumored to show off its latest flagship Android handset. We’ve heard rumors of LG releasing a “super premium” smartphone later this year, and that the device in question could possibly turn out to be what’s known as the LG V10.

Up until now, not too much information has been given regarding the V10, except that it may sport an auxiliary “ticker” display above the phone’s main screen. If you’re like me, you probably have a ton of questions about this rumored device. Thankfully, a new leak has just arrived, giving us our first look at what the V10’s “ticker” display could look like.

As you can see from the image attached above, the V10 looks (mostly) like any other smartphone to come from LG. When you look towards the top, though, you’ll see a little “ticker” display above the main screen that sits next to the front-facing camera modules. It looks like it holds shortcuts to various phone applications such as the camera, contacts, gallery, text messages and settings.

CPg6GoWWIAIzBlh

Hopefully LG utilizes the ticker display to show other useful information such as notifications and more, though we’re not entirely sure how it will function at this point. We’re assuming the icons that are displayed at the top will be customizable, too.

Also worth noting is the inclusion of a second front-facing camera sensor, which sits on the left side next to the ticker display. We saw a good look at the device’s front camera sensors a few weeks ago when the V10 was spotted passing through TENAA, and this new leaked image looks pretty consistent with those first images.

This is still an unannounced device, so we should take this with a grain of salt. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate until the device’s rumored October launch. So, what say you? Are you interested in seeing what the LG V10’s second ticker display can do, or do you think it’s a bit gimmicky?
