In-house chips may be on the way to LG, Sony devices
LG has been steadily improving its position in the mobile device market thanks to a string of successful smartphone launches over the past couple years. Meanwhile, Sony, while producing devices that tend to be well received, struggles to translate that into sales success. Although they seem to be on divergent paths, the two companies have something in common – they are both mentioned in rumors of a move by smartphone manufacturers to transition to in-house production of processors used in their devices.
The latest rumor swirling around the subject was triggered after Global Unichip, a Taiwan-based chip designer, reportedly received orders for development from “Asia-based handset vendors.” This has prompted some sources to consider the possibility that both LG and Sony may be following a strategy implemented by Apple, Samsung and Huawei, all of whom manufacture chips for their own devices.
Currently LG and Sony depend on “off-the-shelf” processors from Mediatek and Qualcomm for their devices.
Do you think this is a smart move for either company? Does the use of an in-house chip versus a generally available chip sway your purchase decisions any?

LG throws its hat into the crowded mobile payment game
You might not be terribly excited about mobile payments, but there’s a reason why there are so many out there, including Apple Pay, Android Pay and, yep, Samsung Pay. All of those companies get a cut of every user purchase, which can add up to a lot of much-needed extra revenue. So it’s not terribly surprising that LG has launched a mobile payment system of its own called (wait for it) LG Pay. The company didn’t provide a lot of details, other than saying it will only be available in Korea for now. However, LG promised Techcrunch it would reveal more in the “coming weeks,” so it may have plans to launch the service in other markets later on.

LG confirms that it’s working on a mobile payment system
LG has just confirmed that it’s currently working on a mobile payment system, which it hopes will challenge both Android and Samsung Pay. Unfortunately, no details were given with regards to when the service will launch, but recent speculation suggests that there will be an opt-in public beta test in South Korea next month.
Judging from the details provided by LG in its official statement, it looks like its payment platform is set to support MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) and NFC (Near Field Communication), which will deliver an identical tap-to-pay experience to Samsung Pay. However, LG claims its service will excel in terms of software.
Not only is it boasting that the service will be more convenient than its competitors, but the South Korean company also claims that it will be more versatile and functional due to the application’s extremely intuitive, easy-to-use interface.

Android Marshmallow for the LG G3 to become available next month
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
LG recently rolled out its Android Marshmallow update to its flagship smartphone, the LG G4, so it stands to reason that the next in line to get the update would be its flagship of yesteryear, the LG G3. According to new reports, Android Marshmallow for the LG G3 is already in testing and is planned for roll-out in Poland between December 16th and 18th, with a wider roll-out if that is successful. This much was confirmed by LG Poland executive Jaroslaw Bukowski who tweeted the plans out.
LG did run into some “technical issues” when it rolled out its update to the LG G4 and it’s not clear if that’s been completely addressed yet, let alone for the LG G3. All we can do is hope that LG has gotten it right this time – we’ll have more news when the update starts hitting devices next month.
What do you think about Android Marshmallow for the LG G3 rolling out next month? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Deal: get an LG G3 and a whole year of service for only $289.99

Looking for a good phone? We know how limiting budgets can be, but in this day and age you can get some pretty awesome smartphones for a low price. You could get a mid-end handset or an older generation high-end device. Today the AA Deals Store is offering the latter at a very good price.
You can now grab an LG G3 for only $289.99. That may not sound like that great of a deal at first, as you can actually get the same phone for slightly cheaper on Amazon, but you are not getting just a phone here. This deal comes with a year of unlimited text & talk, as well as 500 MB per month from FreedomPop. In addition you get premier service, which includes premium voice, voicemail, data rollover, tethering, usage alerts, internet security, VPN and more.

It’s going to save you a bunch of cash! This happens to be a 72% discount over the original value, so you are definitely in for a treat here. There is one thing to keep in mind, though. Coverage is not everywhere, especially if you want 4G LTE. Your best bet is to check out FreedomPop’s website to see if you are covered (they use Sprint’s network). You can also learn all about FreedomPop in there. It’s actually a very interesting wireless service provider, and some casual users could even handle using it for free after that year.
If you are sold on the service, you should also read the great review we gave the LG G3. It’s actually a hell of a phone, even if it’s a previous generation handset. Specs include a 5.5-inch 2560x1440p display, a Snapdragon 801 processor, 2 GB of RAM (or 3 GB for the 32 GB version), 16/32 GB of internal storage, a 13 MP rear camera and a 2.1 MP front shooter, as well as a 3000 mAh battery.
Want in? A year of free service is always good, so I say you should jump on this deal if your area is covered by FreedomPop. Just hit the link below to sign up!
LG prepares to launch rival to Samsung Pay

It seems that earlier reports were correct, as LG has announced that the company is preparing to launch its own mobile payment system, which will see the company directly compete with services like Apple and Samsung Pay.
Speaking earlier today, LG Electronics stated that it is preparing to sign a deal with a number of major card companies in South Korea. Local reports suggest that a deal with Shinhan Card and KB Kookmin Card, two of the largest card companies in the country, could be signed as early as Thursday. However, LG has not announced when the service will go live, what the service will be called, or exactly how it will work.
We probably have a pretty good idea about what type of name the company will use though, as LG has registered trademarks for a number of potential service names in both Korea and the US. These including “LG-Play” and “LG G Pay”.
“We will sign a deal with some of the country’s major card companies before officially launching our mobile payment platform,” – LG Electronics official
Perhaps one of the biggest unknown details is what technology LG will be basing its payment system on. Samsung Pay is currently in the strongest position with its magnetic secure transmission (MST) technology, which supports a wider range of payment terminals than the NFC based technologies used by Apple or Android Pay. Previous reports suggest that LG is looking at a more versatile technology than current implementations, but this doesn’t shed much light on the situation.
“The competition for the mobile payment market is so fierce, as an increasing number of IT giants are betting on similar services.” – Noh Geun-chang, analyst at HMC Investment & Securities
With a number of mobile companies moving quickly ahead with their own mobile payment systems, LG is going to have a tough time catching up if it cannot offer consumers a very compelling reason to make use of its particular service. LG is expected to make an official announcement about its payment service once the card deals have been finalized, which could be as early as next month.
LG Smart TVs get Google Play Movies & TV support in 104 countries

LG tried Google TV for a while, but we all know that didn’t work out well. Not for Google, and not for its partners. Now they are all about WebOS and have managed to create a very enticing platform (even if we still prefer Android TV). This is sad, because LG makes some great televisions, but they are still good friends with Google. Today we have good news for fans of both companies: you will soon be able to enjoy some of the Search Giant’s content from those new LG Smart TVs.
The Korean manufacturer has just announced LG Smart TV owners in 104 markets will gain support for Google Play Movies & TV starting this month. You pretty much get all the key benefits any other platform has access to. Customers can rent, buy and access movies in both HD and SD formats. The selection is immense. And because it works with Google’s servers, you can always continue watching your shows or movies from any device. They will all remember where you left off.

I suppose what I like most about Google service support is that it sort of brings these platforms together. You can use your smartphone to rent a good movie while out and about, only to access it straight from your WebOS TV once you get home. This collaboration between platforms is what the cloud and connected devices are all about! It’s this type of connectivity that highlights the benefits of working with web services, as opposed to locally.
LG is not being very revealing about the total list of supported countries, but we do know the app will first come to the USA, UK, Australia and Canada. Who’s excited for Google Play Movies & TV support? How many of you even have an LG Smart TV?
